I'm not sure how much the console type affects stability. Vehicles are controlled by the server you connect to. Sometimes, the internet doesn't behave and the commands you input aren't received in time. When client-server communication resumes, you see the aftermath of when you had no control; the car is sideways, the front tires, radiator, and sparkplug are all ruined. The car probably hit that hay bale at 40+ km/h but what you saw isn't what really happened on the server.

would you stop nerfing the Vss/AS-Val
Parazight replied to desolate-master's topic in General Discussion
The team has stated that balancing favored encounters that don't end in one-shot kills. The game can't have realistic statistics and this preferred meta. I think when we evaluate the power level of a weapon we have to consider more than just ballistics. There are many examples. Deagles are bad because 357 ammo isn't plentiful. The SVAL just got a huge buff because ATOGx6 is being introduced. NATO rifles got a huge buff with M16 + new acog. The AKs are still better, in my opinion, because of the 1PN51. Especially on PC, where we don't get infinite extra toons/accounts NOT getting one-shot is needed. The VSS/SVAL is also really great at dumping all those 9x39 rounds in to base walls. SVAL/VSS are great weapons for clearing military areas and traveling, they're well-rounded on vanilla servers. They do their job just fine. If you're gearing up to fight players, where the real stats matter, shouldn't you be using M16 or LAR now? Burst Mode > Armor Piercing. no? -
Yes, it should be possible to add this via a mod. Starvation is not a common complaint here. Maybe you're unlucky. If you're at the point where you have to eat worms to survive then maybe you're doing something wrong, or need more experience. I find that many people who die of starvation are trying to loot too fast.
-
Well said. I cringe when I see videos of cars going into space, which happens when you hit 70+ km/h on paved back roads. Dying is mostly preventable. I've destroyed so many cars (engine, radiator, spark plug, and front fender) because of the standard issues, but I haven't actually taken off into space for some time. I can't even remember the last time I actually died from it. I would say at least 95%+ of my car accidents are beyond my control, and that's driving carefully. When things start to go haywire, I stand on the brakes and put it in neutral.

I CANT SURVIVE WITHOUT MY CAT!!!!!

It probably wouldn't hurt as bad if the game carried over your stats, or had some sort of achievement system, or something trivial to show that you did the thing. It really sucks to lose everything knowing there's nothing you can do about it. However, it's not too bad as long as you have a group to rebuild with. Succeeding in DayZ really is about knowledge and social interactions. Loot is trivial, it's easy to get if you have friends and/or experience. Quitting because of wipes is a drastic measure, imo.
-
Thank you for the heads up on the decision to wipe. I have a question regarding the Community Public hive. What happens with the player character on that hive? The wipes of the servers are up to the provider, right? What about the character itself? Thanks.

I'm not buying this. Many of your posts on these forums involve you saying "a vast majority" and speaking for the entire community. The same goes here. You're making claims again on things that are impossible to provide evidence for. The group of people that I play with have built many large bases, over several updates, across a variety of various server types. Bases have never been just about stashing loot. This is because people that actually build bases know that they are likely to be raided. It's obvious to people that build bases that they are not single purpose. Experience with base building inevitably teaches groups to put valuable loot in small, hard to find places, NOT in a base. We build a medium sized base to hang out in. Maybe put some disposable cars in there. A place to grow crops. A place that serves as a decoy so that enemies spend their resources breaking into something that has no valuable items. People don't always stash their most valuable loot in bases. That's nonsense bases are not there first and foremost to store loot. Uh, what? What do you mean by lock up all the top tier loot? Are you saying that top tier weapons don't spawn because people have them stashed around the server?
-
Wow. What a post. You’d think that buying weapons from the server admins would be against terms of service. Doesn’t sound that great of a server, to be honest.
-
This is your story. The goal is to survive at all costs for 3 months until the server wipe.

The part that is frustrating for me is that I know that DayZ Alpha helped to fund the Enfusion engine but now we wait, with an incomplete game, and no updates from the 'engine team' ever. That's where we're at, right? Waiting for the engine team to figure it out because the Enfusion engine is the future for Bohemia Interactive. Can somebody link the latest public update announcement for the Enfusion engine? OR, just tell us that work on the engine has stopped and that's it. Give us bad news if that's the truth. We can handle these first world problems.

I don’t even know how to emphasize enough how important cars are to the group I run with. Sure, others may say that vehicles are not as important to most of community, but those people are just speculating. They actually have no data whatsoever regarding what everybody wants. I know that many of the people that *I* run with bought dayz because it is an extension of Arma, which cars were a very important part of. Cars were definitely part of the high concept model that was pitched pre-production. It’s extremely disappointing to see the company (that’s responsible for taking my money and failing to deliver) repeatedly post non-answers to very direct questions. You regularly allocate time to find improvements? What does that even mean? This point doesn’t actually say anything other than “no one is actually held accountable”. We had to jump a hurdle to address this issue (make a new thread) but it’s just more of the same non answers. Typically, design has to establish a plan to appease its publisher, but I suppose that doesn’t apply when the two are the same entity. So again, zero accountability. Can someone explain to me why the people responsible for optimizing the code decided to implement anti-cheat measures instead of just making the game work? Why does BI make inferior code to fight cheaters, and when it happens anyway, they say ‘talk to BattleEye!’ What I would like is to be able to set up a server so that my personal friends from around the country can get together and drive around Chernarus! It’s a beautiful sandbox. We don’t need hacker protection. We need an optimized game, which we thought we were going to get. Please give us a VBS3, except updated with the Enfusion engine. Except without this anti-cheat bullshit that doesn’t help at all. We don’t need it. We have whitelisted servers. We have community admins. We have BattleEye. Please do not use this thread as a reference in the future as to how you’ve addressed the problem. We are way past 1.0 and “we are aware of the issues” is worthless to reasonable consumers. lol@sanity checks.

how does someone find my well hidden tent whithin 24 hours?
Parazight replied to Buddagee's topic in General Discussion
Get a potato pc with a hdd that can barely run the game. Watch as the terrain loads, then the loot, then the rest. Completely unavoidable if your hardware is bad. You can only see so far but it’s definitely the path of least resistance to locate hidden loot. Especially in city areas where the loot is above eye level. -
Okay, I'm going to try and explain n a simple way what actually happened in this thread to accommodate for your lack of comprehension here. I need to paraphraze this before my pizza is done. Here we go. OP: "Hey, cheaters are bad. Plz fix!!1!!1" "Try private servers dude!!" Ivw06: "Devs don't do anything about cheaters. Cheaters are everywhere! admins too (read: are complicit)" Maverick: "NO WAI! admins don't cheat! I'm an admin! I demand proof" Other people: "Yea, we have to see proof !" Ivw06: "OMG. WTF this is hella cra-cra! How can you not see the cheats! Asking for proof is mind boggling! The only reason not to see what is obvious to all is because you cheat!!" (not the best tactical move in a debate, tbh) (this is where it goes off of the rails and people actually think he's accusing people, but he's not. Ivw06 explains in a bit Other people: "You're on drugs. We demand proof. You must be bad" Ivw06: (obviously frustrated because no one understands him...here lay the important quotes that really explain what he is saying. pay attention) Maverick: "dude, put down the meth" Ivw06: " "the reality is much dirtier and you refuse to admit it! One wonders why...." (more insults and not understanding) ImpulZ speaks. (finally, a voice of reason. someone in the thread that understands what Ivw06 is trying to say) "Hacking is everywhere. There's a fucking electronic pandemic going on and the whole world has to deal with this bullshit." SwissArmy1984: "(some solid advice about joining protected servers)" (a debate that deserves its own post) And this is where I stop explaining and when I enter the conversation. Later on, I'm supposed to be impressed because Maverick's friend, from germany, who he plays games with, and is really proud of, starts talking. This is the only quote I'm going to put in this post although there are many examples of straight-up wrong, uninformed, and absurd statements and opinions made by Dagiweh. Ivw06 responded to this thread saying that if you're not proactive in fighting cheaters then you're actively complicit. This is what people fail to understand. He's completely flabbergasted by the fact that you don't see how widespread cheating is. He tries to explain it again and again. His audience doesn't understand what he's trying to say. He's not actually pointing out people. That's not the point he's making. Note that he doesn't actually name the admins, tho I bet he could! Also, he doesn't actually attack anyone, only what they say. He's completely shocked that people don't see his point of view and wonders aloud "why is this happening? Are you guys cheaters, or something?" Again, not a great tactical move in a forum saying this, but w/e. The thing is. He's right about cheaters being totally widespread and is within his right to believe that admins are complicit. Because he's not attacking people, accusing them of doing meth, or sucking at life. He might be wrong, sure. "If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem." is what he's saying. Which is a huge other debate. He's absolutely wrong in assuming that Bohemia or BattleEye can stop cyber cheats, unfortunately. But that does not warrant assaulting him with personal attacks. Asking for proof is 100% nonsense when it comes online criminal activity. All you have to do is read the news. Read what ImpulZ wrote earlier! For example, the United States of America has a fairly substantial amount of funds to play with, okay? Just 2 days ago, President Biden asked Vladimir Putin to "please don't hack these 16 institutions" WTF! The US government has major issues fighting cyber criminals! The time for proof is over. Colonial Oil just paid 5 million dollars ransom to cyber-criminals. These are not easily solved issues. This isn't like breaking into someone's house. Not even close. Cyber criminal activity is a plague everywhere. The time for proof is over! It's true! Huge governmental superpowers have big problems with 'cheaters'. It's literally everywhere! Ivw06 shouldn't expect BI to solve these problems easily. It's a problem widespread, obvious, and way beyond the scope of just BI. Just because multiple people don't understand what he's saying (or real world facts, apparently) doesn't mean he's acting irrationally.
-
Would you say that all cheating is provable by video? You think videos are trustworthy? They don't give you the full picture and can be edited. The burden of proof is not on the average player. Providing proof via video is an unreasonable request. Cyber cheats are everywhere and difficult to deal with. So much so that it was a major discussion point just yesterday between Biden and Putin! Also, you quoted me out of context. Sorry, I must have missed the post where someone said ALL admins are cheaters. Maverick basically claimed that admins could not be cheaters and that is crap. I do not believe that all admins are cheaters. It's not reasonable to think that. That's not what I said at all. Completely irrelevant and nonsensical. When are you going to address the personal attacks coming from the people you're defending? Because that's what the post you quoted me was all about.
-
I get it. You call out some 'random forum dude' (Ivw06) and demand proof of the claims he makes which is impossible to measure. Then you make some wild claims stating exactly how all the community feels, you state that admins don't ever cheat, and you accuse Ivw06 of being on meth. I tell you to provide proof, in the same vein as what you did to him and suddenly you're 'not interested'. I'm going to call you out every single time if you're going to keep attacking other forum users instead of what they say. Try taking your own advice.
-
I can tell you're not interested at all because you've only posted nine times in this thread. You took that sentence out of a paragraph that was asking for proof of data because he was making claims and speaking for the community. I don't understand how your response relates to me asking for metrics from Maverick.
-
Okay. You've been an admin for 6+years and somehow that makes you an expert regarding 'most accusations'. Really? Where do you get your metrics? You speak for the community? Apparently we're extremely paranoid when it comes to cheats. Based on what? Show me your proof. Give me detailed numbers/percentages. Oh, you cant? Then why ask for it from Ivw06? You seem to think that admins don't cheat. Oh? Is there an application process to be an admin? Do admins have to pass some sort of moral background check? Of course not. Everyday gamers cheat, no doubt about it. Nothing separates admins from cheaters or non-cheaters. If I start my own server, does that mean my moral code is instantly good? Just because a person is an admin, does not mean they don't cheat. It's pretty simple logic. Asking for proof is ridiculous. The servers he mentioned are rife with cheaters. I've been on them all. I'm not going to provide proof because that request is beyond ridiculous. Further, the personal attacks on Ivw06, instead of what he posts, are not warranted. Sure, his counter argument is less than ideal, but maybe you can recognize the frustration when English is not your mother-tongue. I realize that moderators on this site are all on extended hiatus, so I will gladly comment on a week old thread regarding issues that have been going on for years. Great comment. Not as good as your regular personal attacks, but at least you tried.

Why don't the developers try to make money on this game?
Parazight replied to maxon-69's topic in General Discussion
Because the developers have no control over the money flow or marketing. The question should be: Why does Marek Spanel do the things he does? Regarding DayZ; it looks like Dean Hall convinced Marek Spanel to start a new game based on an idea formed off of "make Arma, not war" incentives. This was to take Arma and make mods based on anything that wasn't war. Well, Hall spearheaded the DayZ mod. Spanel apparently liked it. Dean Hall, incredibly naive as he was, thought he could make a social experiment out of an ARMA project. A sandbox without actual repercussions for any actions. A world of people and ways to kill each other. Yea, great idea for a 'social experiment'. Seemingly random business decision. So, 4 years into development they decided to start over. OR, DayZ was originally, secretly, intended as a way to generate funds to create the Enfusion engine. Which they haven't actually done anything substantial with. This all lays on Spanel's shoulders. The CEO and founder. He's the one you would question. Not the devs. The developers here are doing their job, dictated by the boss. Maybe Spanel eventually concluded that this project wasn't going to work and/or the engine needed a lot of work. BI (read:Spanel) likes to say that the company is based on what the community asks for and wants, but that is clearly not the case. BI has always done what it wants. It doesn't relate to the community. Marketing has been non existent for decades. All the evidence that I see is that Spanel is a terrible CEO and business manager. It looks like he'll just abandon projects because they may turn out to NOT be easily profitable. That said, his current net worth is reported to be over 13 million (US dollars). Seems successful enough, right? -
Amen. The time to provide proof is over! I can't believe people are asking you to provide proof! Cheaters are everywhere. Private and Official servers. Criminal behavior is always a step ahead of those policing. Those who say "there's no cheating on non-official servers" are delusional. In my opinion, it is completely unreasonable to ask someone to provide proof of the situation when. 1) How can you not see it. 2) People on all sorts of forums discuss it. 3) This is not limited to any one game. 4) It's been acknowledged by BI staff. For Years!! 5) In the last 2 years they've banned far more accounts for cheating than the previous 5. Go read about it. Saying "go to private servers" is a terrible solution. When I buy a finished product, I shouldn't have to invest more time into building it. I shouldn't have to spend an inordinate amount of time maintaining it. When I buy a new car I'm not expected to make my own tires. This is the age of specialization. We really have to figure out how to make the things we buy not be terrible? We have to set up our own servers and establish our own communities, just so we can play the game at entry level? That horrible. Not being able to play, and be happy, with the standards that the provider gives us, because it's plagued with issues is horseshit. This is how business and ideas die. The cheaters are everywhere! Why put cars server side to help fight cheaters? Why would the game company execute decisions like this? Why try to fight cheaters with bad design when you're just going to pass the blame to BattleEye? Really? This is the argument you use to counter the poster's claim that there are cheaters? This is a perfect post from you. Clueless any whiny. For all those claimed hours you still must suck at the game. This has to be a lie. Admin for 6 years. Claims all the community is paranoid. Actually asks for hard to get proof when the devs basically said this isn't true.
-
Is this a real statement? You call out me as the source of disappointment for this game? No way. I've made no decisions regarding this game. Don't blame me and then say "don't be offended" Absolute bullshit. Again, you're just providing opinion about what you like in the game. You're basing success on feelings and how much you like the game. Ellipses, feeling-good, and assuming your opinion is the popular one doesn't pay the bills. Arma 3 wasn't that great. It didn't make a lot of money for Bohemia Interactive. It wasn't 'absolutely successful' by any stretch of the imagination. Notice how the company adopted the Early Access Model to fund DayZ! Having a game that doesn't run well and expecting it to be successful is super ridiculous. Claiming that Arma3 runs great now is completely irrelevent. That's cute. You think you're part of some sort of special club. You're not. I played Arma3 before the DayZ mod was released. It wasn't that great. It was clear back then that the shit framerates was going to be a huge problem in the future. The decisions by the company reflect this. They did it with DayZ, too. Instead of just implementing everything and making it run smooth and optimize performance, they decided to implement security measures and not let BattleEye do its job. For example, moving cars server side when it ran just fine client side in Arma. Instead of letting BattleEye do its job, they decided to not focus 100% on performance. I did not make this game a disappointment. Framerates are paramount. Ask any game company. Please stop shit-posting.
-
The things that you don't like are entirely subjective. When the title hit 1.0, the performance jumped incredibly. If DayZ was officially released as it was, with 18 frames per second, the game would not succeed and BI would be famous for releasing new games with antiquated technology. What a death sentence that would be.
-
I definitely don't miss the glory days of 18 frames per second.
