Help me understand the butthurt over PK'ing, Bandits, PvP, killers, etc.
zipper replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you think people were only killing because they thought they could get away with it you are sorely mistaken. Katrina was a disaster, in the most literal sense of the word. You should rewatch some of the news stories surrounding the event. -

You have absolutely nothing to back up your first comment. Survival is the entire point of the game. If you fail at it you lose. The average life expectancy is impacted more from zombie deaths than from PvP. The stats Vipeax have posted prove this. There is a giant difference. The person still alive at day 45 knows what the overall goal is. The person who died at 45 minutes does not. The person alive at day 45 has an overall goal they are working towards. The person who died in 45 minutes failed theirs. If what you actually meant was there is no giant YOU WIN screen once you have done certain things, then you are correct. And if that is something that is ruining the game for you, perhaps this isn't the game you should be playing. If you meant there are just no overall incentives to teaming up with others, I suggest yet once again that you read this thread. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/8526-incentives-to-cooperative-play/ -

Whoa whoa whoa. You are quick to point out that your fun is perfectly acceptable, but a PKers fun isn't? Who are you to tell someone else how they are supposed to enjoy the game? They play the game how they want, not to how you want them to. This is a completely open game. People are supposed to play exactly the way they want to. If you are tired of dying change how you play the game. Open sandbox game with no rules means you have to adapt to the game, not the other way around. If you are tired of bandits, kill them. If you can't because they have a group of people, make a bigger group and fix the problem. It is rather amazing that people are given the opportunity to play the game in any way they want, and yet all anyone wants is a set of rules, or restrictions or limitations. Benefits for those who work together, and punishment for those who don't. You create the benefits and punishments. If you aren't willing to do anything about your problem, it obviously isn't a big enough concern for you. If you think there is no incentive for team play, here is a post that will show you the benefits of working together. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/8526-incentives-to-cooperative-play/ PKers fun is surviving as long as possible and shooting anyone and or thing that they do not know. If you are tired of getting shot in the city, get out of the city. There are plenty of less dangerous ways to get what you need to survive without running directly into the middle of Cherno. You cannot argue that any style of play in DayZ is wrong. It is an open game, designed to be played however people want. If you see problems within the game that aren't bug related, find a way to fix them yourself. If you can't do it alone, get more people. If that still doesn't work, you need to look at how you are playing the game, because it is obvious at that point that what you are doing isn't working. P.S. - I never told you what to do, I told you your logic is flawed, and told you why. If you think someones attitude blows goats because they point out flaws in things you post, I think you should take a look at your perspective on other peoples opinions. Now you are mad about it, idk why, but that's ok. Rocket did not create a zombie apocalypse, he created a mod that mimicked one. You should try to separate the two. -

I didn't foam at the mouth at all. You are the one complaining about PKers. I never said he was a hippie. I said it was a hippie driven mindset that people only assume the world works the way you described it in your post, and don't bother to take into account what I detailed in mine. I could really care less if that makes you unhappy, the point is one does not go without the other. Germans can be hippies as well, there is nothing that limits them from being that. You did advocate that. That is what you imply when you say people are more likely to work together instead of shooting each other on sight. And as I pointed out, there is a counter to that argument. There are limitations as to what groups can provide newcomers, and barring any exceptional skills (doctor, mechanic, tracker, etc.) people will be cast away at a certain point. This means people will not continue to work together, and hostility will be present. Whenever that is present, there is a chance for death. Like I said, if you are going to point out something like this, you need to detail everything revolving around that idea. You don't just get to pick the good parts. Your logic failed the minute you said I was foaming at the mouth. In fact, your entire post proves my point and shows quite the opposite. Immanuel Kant is a hippie. Are you going to come kill me now? I didn't realize in an apocalypse that we would still be killing each other over our own individual opinions. You attempt to label PKers as inbred idiots. All this shows is you have no idea what consequences can come from letting a person live that you do not know. Say that sniper didn't shoot you, and he let you live. Now instead of dying, you double back in the tree line and see him next to a tree and kill him. Now, because he didn't shoot you, he died. It may have happened two hours later, or two minutes later, it doesn't matter. The point is, he would have taken a risk in not killing you, and that risk would have potentially put his life in jeopardy. All you see is some asshole sniper that shot you in the back. I see someone who is surviving. Coincidentally that is the entire point of the game, and out of the two of you, the guy you think is an inbred idiot for killing you succeeded, and you failed. You have only yourself to blame, and if the inbred idiot is succeeding at surviving, what does that make you? -
I don't understand why so many people are posting in this thread. This should have ended when the OP said he had only played for 24 hours. Don't really care who you are, you cannot come into this game fresh, and cover every different way of playing the game in a 24 hour period. In fact if you are doing that, you completely fail at the entire survival aspect of the game, which is what the game revolves around anyway. You have either had a lot of help from other people, which doesn't really account for crap since you wouldn't have gotten any of that stuff yourself, or you're just lying. Regardless, if you are unhappy with the mod, go play something else. This was free, if you don't like it, leave.

Help me understand the butthurt over PK'ing, Bandits, PvP, killers, etc.
zipper replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Quite the contrary. This does count as it is what you would be likely to do IRL. You are likely to take in people you know, or who are friends of people you know. You are likely to outcast people you don't. That is the way the world always has, and always will work. There are exceptions, but they are few and far between. Why you would think otherwise blows my mind. Who are you more likely to accept, the 23 year old convicted felon on house arrest across the street that you don't know, or Pat and Sally, the neighbors who you have been eating dinner with every Saturday night for the last 7 years? -

The reason so many people come on the forums and whine about PvP is because they fail to understand this. People do team up, and they form groups. And these groups will eventually defend themselves against threats. Not everyone is going to be welcomed into the group. If you are going to use some BS reasoning you should at least understand how what you are talking about works. So answer this. When do you draw the limit? How many people will you take in before you run out of food? Water? Medical supplies? Guns? Ammo? It is in mans nature to work together, you are correct. This is largely because we have the ability to reason. But that ability to reason will also force us to push people away. Having 500,000 people in your group does no good if they are all sick, starving and dehydrated. At some point, you have to draw the line. And people aren't going to understand why you took the last 5 people without a problem, but now you can't take them. They will try to force their way into your group, completely abandoning reason, and they will kill you if need be. This is when you get rid of reason, and you defend yourself by killing them. You don't just reference things without completely understanding them, and if you did completely understand it, then you are intentionally leaving parts of it out. People will naturally group with others until the group is strong. The stronger the group gets, the more people it can take in. Taking in people does not make the group stronger, it is what the group does to strengthen themselves while they do not take newcomers. Nature will correct the size of your group if it is too big. Nature will make your group the right size for you to succeed with what you currently have, and it is up to man if the group size will get any bigger or not. What you are proposing is a simplistic hippie driven mindset. "Lets all gather together and hold hands out in the forest." That isn't how survival works. Survival scenarios are cold, unforgiving, and ruthless. Often times the ability to reason is cast aside when survival is the number one concern. When that happens, you are going to find a lot more hostile people. For all of you saying it is peoples natural instinct to work together in an apocalypse, you have no idea what people will do in that situation. People act completely irrational when presented with extreme situations. That very reason is what will cause some of us to still be alive, because it drives us to our most basic survival instincts. So cut the crap with all the boo hoo people wouldn't shoot each other BS. You have no idea what would actually happen, and you have no idea why it is they were put into the position to shoot you. More often than not you will find it was YOUR fault that you ended up being shot, not theirs. -
Hats, Armbands & Backpack Badges for Team Identification
zipper replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd really just like the ability to pick what our civilian and camo clothing looks like. Same design but different colors, and colors that are persistent throughout logging in and out of the game. Overall good idea. We need more ways to identify ourselves in game. -
The New Starting Conditions - Too Hard?
zipper replied to cannedpeaches's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Game is still to easy on start. We did just wash up from the ocean correct? Start our blood at 6000 and put our temperature at 27 C. Screen needs to be shaking and our character needs to be freaked the hell out when he first starts playing. -
How to end Ganking, and support Honor [ v ]
zipper replied to Arainasc's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You do not reward or punish people for how they play the game. You completely screw up the game if you do so. -
Several dozen PvE only zombie games already exist. Go play those. If you remove PvP from DayZ you ruin the game experience.

Slower zombies, increased numbers.....
zipper replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You misunderstand. It is easy to get away from zombies because you can just run away. If you were restricted on your ability to sprint, and were no longer a 10 time gold medal Olympic runner, you would be forced to deal with the zombies since you wouldn't be able to get away as easily. You make the zombies move at the same speed you run. This isn't making them slow, it just stops them from being unreasonably fast. I don't think it needs to be headshot kills either, it would remove the balance that already exists between the guns. -
Slower zombies, increased numbers.....
zipper replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't feel we need special zombies, they should all be about the same difficulty that they are now. But I do agree with the main point the OP has presented that will fix several issues in DayZ. Unlimited player sprint. 225km map? Had no idea it was that big, I can run across it in about 30 minutes. Limiting player sprint not only slows the game down for a lot of people, it increases the map size without changing anything on the map. It puts a gigantic value on vehicles, which are now only used as storage centers for helicopter farmers. Walking needs to be the primary means of getting around, not sprinting. The zombies should be no faster then player run speed. Sprint control allows them to catch up to the player. I'm not saying they need to literally walk everywhere, but the most they should be able to do is jog. If you wanted to stick with the 28 days later theme, make them run at player run speed. I don't understand how some of these zombies/infected run about a mile a minute. This will slow the zombies down a bit, which I believe will make their animations a bit smoother. The number of zombies present in the game needs to be increased about 100 fold. Packs should roam between the cities and through the forests. The major cities should be swarmed with them. You should not be able to fire a gun in the center of Cherno and just waltz out of town. That should be a death sentence. I am not against PvP whatsoever, but right now the experience is a bit far from authentic. Mainly because it is so easy to get away from the coast and get geared up. That should be extremely difficult, and it's a bit of a joke right now. -
Logging out in shock should kill you
zipper replied to Mooseocalypse's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is a pretty bad idea for reasons that should be obvious to everyone. So is the original idea. There are better ways that this can be fixed, and more importantly, it will be fixed whenever the game is ported over. Since that is the case, as annoying as this problem is, it is of little concern to me, just like it should be to you. -
Some feature ideas requesting feedback
zipper replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the idea of a portable tower, but I don't really see why we have to trade anything off to prevent ghosting. Alt+f4ing is an exploit according to Rocket. Maybe at the very least the military areas should have 1 or two in place. These appear to be the biggest areas with server hopping problems anyways. It would at least remove that problem from those hot spots. Or perhaps place them on top of the control towers at the airfields. I think it should be constantly on, but you could even add a switch in the tower that could be player controlled. I assume this is just a temporary thing. It's nice to know you are at least trying to come up with solutions for the problem, so thanks. I'm also all for anything you guys are planning on implementing that aids with camp construction. Camo netting would be great, but if it is the same pattern as the tents, it would just make your camp stand out even more. I'm not sure which stands out more, the Ural, or a tent. Any possibility of turning off unlimited sprint? That would probably aid camp construction more than anything else. Right now it is just too easy to get around the map. -
Pretty sure this is the first post I have ever seen complaining about it.

Then you should have been paying more attention, which is probably the reason you die from bandits to begin with. Finding one of these military convoys was a blast before E3. Granted they were hacked in, but it gave people something different to do, and a different goal to work towards. It adds another level of immersion since this would be a pretty realistic scenario (military trying to take a town back over). I know Rocket said he wants to take a back seat and not really run these events, but I think they'd be fun. It doesn't have to be the primary focus in the game, but it would definitely help add another level to it.

Suggestions for Dayz from a newbies prospective.......
zipper replied to david6789's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1. Exists 2. You can run up a hill until you reach a certain incline, just like IRL. 3. Do you have a name floating over your head IRL? 4. If you don't like playing at night join a day server. 5. It is a bug. 6. This would allow you to ghost the player that killed you. No thanks. 7. The message should be removed completely imo. You want this changed so your 3rd party resource is more useful. No. 8. It does do this, it just depends on how you interact with your inventory. -
[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
zipper replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
You should provide a heat-map that highlights every area that isn't an airfield or Starry. People need to spread out a bit more. Edit: or Cherno and Electro. Thought that would be obvious though. :P -
This is illogical. We may as well have auto aim turned on because there are people using 3rd party hacking programs that use aim bots. /s Doesn't make much sense does it?
-
And there would be no reason to change the inventory since the game wouldn't be released with the Arma 2 engine. This is just a trial period. If it makes you feel any better, from everyone I have talked to about it, the Arma 3 inventory system appears to be a lot better. Arma 2 wasn't really designed for things like DayZ. DayZ was just built around the core game that already existed. There is no reason for the Devs to focus on an inventory system that they know will change. They understand the importance of it, so when it does get ported over, I'm sure they will make sure it is done right. But allocating a bunch of time to fix something that works right now is kind of silly. It is buggy, but there are workarounds for it already in place. It just requires attention every time you mess with it. If you are still having issues with it, I would suggest googling tutorials about the inventory. There are several out there that are detailed and thorough.

Stalker style events over missions etc
zipper replied to sIDeATSgAMMA's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Safe areas would kill this game. They would be giant death traps going in or out of them. They would remove the main aspect about this game. Survival. You now have a place where you don't have to worry about that. No thank you, I don't want to destroy DayZ.
