He just told you they are in Arma already. Your comment is pointless. +1 to the OP. Don't really care if there are gold guns or not, I just want more guns in general. If they decide to make them all gold I don't care.
-
You misunderstand. The only thing relating to client-side skins in your post is the title of the thread. Your post didn't really have anything to do with client-side skins and had everything to do with random skin generation. While related, they are still two separate topics. I rely on communication and awareness as well. And when 5 survivors are running at you, two hostile and three friendly, the only safe option we currently have is to shoot them all as there is no viable way to determine who is who. Same can be applied when providing overwatch for a group entering a building. Once inside it is impossible to separate friend from foe.

A kill tuning mechanic from a PVPer's perspective.

No I dropped out. Teachers always told me I would never amount to anything. :( Then I shot them and took their beans. :D -
A kill tuning mechanic from a PVPer's perspective.

So what you are saying is, after I get all the gear and vehicles I can, the only thing I am left to do is sit in the woods and eat and drink once every 2 hours? No thanks. Why is it bad: It's adding some form of karma to the game and i hate karma, but at the same time it only affect the time between two lives. It is, in essence some form of punishment. It lack realism, the effect is realistic (fear of death, hesitation to kill) but it's not the best "cause". Bandit system (karma system) was removed because it wasn't working how it was intended to work. They will not punish peoples playing styles. Removing realism from a military sim is a bad road to start going down. Edit: Guy shoots at me because he wants my gear. He misses and I shoot back and kill him. Now if I get killed I have to wait 5 minutes to respawn? That isn't very logical. -
The problem has nothing to do with what the OP posted and has everything to do with this. Been shot twice after being asked what color clothes I'm wearing. Don't really understand why they can't at least just make all the survivors wear the same outfit, but I'm sure it has something to do with Arma 2 and some coding issue. Still, it is rather frustrating when I am trying to defend my teammates and I have no way to identify them from other people. This is probably the most unauthentic and unrealistic aspect of the mod.

The following tools help people group up in game. http://www.teamspeak.us/ http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/on-your-computer/windows/ http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php Use them. Group up. ??? Profit.

You shot a guy within 100 meters with a .50 cal and killed him. Why do you feel that this is so special? It would have been more impressive if he lived.

Yeah I agree. I'm ok with them advertising shooting people but smoking? Wtf are these people thinking???

A serious question for the PvP-phobes
zipper replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
And people like you continue to fail to understand what the word survival means. If you are being shot by people you are trying to talk to you, maybe you need to look at the way you are trying to survive. -
He actually just made a comment and offered some advice. Still waiting for you to post the advantage that the bandits have.
-
If you wanted to play the game why the fuck would you even bother buying a hack? Hope your entire Steam account gets banned.

Those are not advantages. Number one is not an advantage. This is a first person shooter with zombies. Survivors have an obligation to defend themselves just as much as bandits have an obligation to kill. Failure to do so by either party doesn't provide an advantage to being one or the other. Number two is not an advantage. The survivor failed at surviving and pissed off some zombies. Additionally, when a bandit shoots his gun, for whatever reason, he will also aggro zombies. Survivors in the area will also be looking for this, leaving them free of detection to strike at the bandit. Number three is not an advantage. Survivors need to scout an area before entering. If survivors attempted to do this before running straight into Cherno, they will see their life expectancy go up. There are going to be people that you do not see, bandit snipers being one of them. But, in turn, bandits are not always going to be able to see survivors that are counter-sniping. In regards to your wanted poster idea, how would anybody know that said bandit had killed anyone? Dead men, or women, do not talk. This game cannot get any more balanced then it already is. There is no advantage to being one or the other. We all use the same weapons, can all drive the same vehicles, and can all eat and drink the same food, and use the same bandages. In terms of game design, this game is balanced to perfection. Show me the giant shark with laser beams on its head that swims in the ocean and only bandits can use. Then I will believe you that bandits have an advantage. Until then, the only people that have an advantage are the ones who take the time to ensure they are going to survive. You will find a large majority of the PvP related deaths in this game happen because people forget that the entire core of the game is built around survival.

When you make a post stating that bandits have an advantage when they do not that is complaining. It is not the communities fault if you fail to understand that. Obviously you cannot post a reasonable advantage. If you can you have yet to do so. If you honestly believe disregard for other people has anything to do with an advantage then you have no idea what an actual advantage is. Edit: I'd like to add, you feel the balance of the game is completely broken. Please explain how the balance is broken when everybody has access to the same gear from spawn until death. I would love to read an explanation about the game being "unbalanced" when nobody is given an advantage.

Another person who fails to understand the concept of the game. Just because you don't see something as punishing another player doesn't mean it isn't. Just because you swear a lot in a post doesn't make it any better. Fail idea is still fail, and if you were expecting a different set of responses you should spend more time actually reading the threads in the suggestion forums. There are literally hundreds of complaints about this topic. I never said you had to play passive by the way. I said either run or shoot back. I would hardly classify shooting someone as being passive, but hey whatever. You say there are no arguments that can be made about your idea, but your idea fails at the start. There is no advantage for bandits. They simply kill people who fail to take the time to be cautious, or place reward above the risk. You called someone a liar for telling you that you didn't state an advantage for bandits. Sometimes the truth hurts, because you didn't. They can be killed by the exact same amount of bullets as a survivor. There is no "advantage" at all. In fact there are many disadvantages to shooting on sight. If you can name one legitimate advantage a bandit has over a survivor I'd be glad to support your idea. But the truth is you won't be able to. The only way a bandit can even get an "advantage" is if the survivor isn't prepared, alert, and attentive to his surroundings. Survivors who play like that do not have problems with bandits. Try it. Name one advantage a well prepared bandit has over a well prepared survivor. I'll wait.

We already have this system and it is annoying as shit to continuously read about people whining that they got killed. I'll pass on making this a key part of the game. If you don't want to die either run faster or shoot back. It has been said about 50,000,000 times that people will not be punished for how they play. It doesn't matter if that punishment comes from Rocket, or you. It is still punishing people.

Help me understand the butthurt over PK'ing, Bandits, PvP, killers, etc.
zipper replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Because douchebags spam global channel with crappy music, or just don't shut up themselves and continuously spam it. VOIP is a core part of PC gaming. It is available to everyone, and won't ever go away. It has been mentioned by Rocket himself that the gear and inventory system is currently DayZ's leveling device. Every game has some way to progress, you do it with gear in DayZ. If all you are getting to survive is a enfield and a makorav, it is no wonder you are upset about PvP. You want people to place blind faith in almost 700,000 players now. It will not happen. This was totally possible when DayZ only had 100 players, and those days are long gone now. You ask why fix it? Because 3rd party VOIP doesn't communicate with strangers in game. What do you want people to do, type out the TS information in chat and wait for the person to join, just so they can ask if he is friendly? You say DayZ is enforcing a culture with mankind spiraling down the toilet. DayZ isn't enforcing anything. Have you watched the news in the last ten years? Mankind is well past the toilet at this point. All DayZ did was let those same people play a game together. -
Help me understand the butthurt over PK'ing, Bandits, PvP, killers, etc.
zipper replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nobody lives forever. The overall goal is to survive. I'm not sure if English isn't your native language or not, but what you are saying doesn't make a lot of sense. Yes we shouldn't all be sitting in the woods doing nothing, but you should be trying to stay alive as long as you can. From the post Rocket created titled Disconnecting to avoid death. " Posted 27 May 2012 - 05:10 AM I don't know why, but people are assuming that I think this is part of the game. It's not. I posted in a thread that was talking about that, that META-GAMING is explicitly allowed. I.e. infiltrating teamspeak servers and groups etc... Disconnecting to avoid death IS an exploit. It will be patched out, very easily, in a future update. The update is ready to go and will be released when the Beta patch for ArmA2 is out." -
Help me understand the butthurt over PK'ing, Bandits, PvP, killers, etc.
zipper replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You don't understand the point of the game then. The entire objective is to survive. If you are alive for 20 minutes and die, you have failed. If you are alive for 20 days and die, you have failed. The objective is to not die. If that is not your primary goal you are going to get shot and lose everything. That might not matter to someone who has only played for 20 minutes, but it more than likely will piss somebody off who has taken the time to get everything they wanted. Your second comment is pointless. When DayZ started there is obviously going to be a lot more cooperation. There are less people playing so it is easier to build trust amongst each other. When you move from 600 people to 600,000, it is going to be insanely hard building trust with strangers. The problem you are experiencing has nothing to do with the game, the game hasn't changed. It is trust. And the only way you are going to build trust is playing with people you know, or friends of people you know. You simply cannot trust everybody playing the game, and if anything, the growing population has contributed to making the game even more realistic. Groups will not openly accept every single person they see. While they may be willing to help strangers, doing so poses a huge risk. They will likely help the person, and go their separate ways. We are not playing Hello Kitty Online Island Adventure where everybody makes friends and holds hands. This is a survival simulator. Failing to survive means you lost the game. Granted DayZ is in an Alpha stage and you aren't supposed to get attached to your gear, but if this was a final release, and you end up dying, you essentially set your character back to level zero(i.e. you lost all your gear). You contradict yourself by saying you disagree and say you are only set back 30 minutes. You failed at surviving in the survival simulator. You lost. -
Increase pvp difficulty so its actually takes skill.
zipper replied to jupsto's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Thread is titled increase pvp difficulty so it actually takes skill. 1st point is reducing the accuracy of the weapons......wtf? So your "skill" is how lucky you are with bullet spread? Since that is the model BF3 currently uses, and people bitch to no end about how much it removes the skill aspect of the game, I'll chalk this one up as something you didn't put a lot of thought into. 2nd point is sacrifice some realism in terms of weapon damage.....REALLY? So the "skill" aspect of the game, whoever can put their crosshair on a target and pull the trigger the fastest now gets bumped to whoever has the biggest gun? So now the skill takes a back seat to, once again, how lucky you are in finding loot? Fool me once... 3rd point is enforce first person view. Uh ok. You realize there are servers already like this? Join one of them and your 3rd point is solved. There is no significant advantage in either veteran or expert servers. The tools are either present for everyone, or completely removed for everyone. 4th point is better 3d sound. Sure, I'm always for improving the core aspects of the game. Not sure what you are using to play your sound with but I don't really have a problem being able to find who is shooting at me, but I do have a fairly decent headset, at least it was a couple years ago. There isn't really anything they can do about this right now though as this is going to be a limitation in the core game, not in DayZ. If this was really important to you perhaps you can head over to the BIS forums and post your suggestion about the sound there. -
He isn't talking about zombies near the sniper. He's talking about zombies near the people he is providing the overwatch for. If they managed to fix the duping problem once and for all, and made the silencer something you have to find separate from the rifle I would be ok with this. Give it the lowest spawn rate in the game and make it drop from the barracks only. But I don't think they are going to get the duping problem fixed any time soon as long as the game is on the Arma 2 engine, so I can't really justify putting this in the game. Yes it would be more authentic, but it would be highly sought after and everyone would start duping it.

A plea to Rocket: Fix What's Broken or Let Us Help
zipper replied to -E-Claymore's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hacking will always be present in every game as long as people are given the freedom to learn and write code. It is, as Rocket even mentioned, why this mod even exists. It is essentially a hack of the core game, Arma 2. There is little you can do about it, and there is no system we will ever play on that will be 100% immune to hackers. Even games with servers only hosted by the parent company have to deal with hackers. Not sure why you care about being told you can't ban for hacks. If you record and provide that proof of why you banned whoever you did, unless the hacker is a complete moron, he isn't going to say anything. What's he going to do, come on the forums and complain? Just link the video and he will be globally banned from all servers. Obviously if you don't provide proof, it will just be his word against yours, so make sure you have it and your hacker will go away. -
Some feature ideas requesting feedback
zipper replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ander, is there any chance we can get a response as to why the staff feels there needs to be a fair trade off to combat ghosting? If it is something that is merely a current coding problem I think a lot of people would be understanding. I think pretty much the entire community is waiting for a solution to the Alt+F4ing problem, and I'm pretty sure I speak for the majority when I say I was a bit surprised at needing to balance a mechanic that we thought was going to be removed from the game. Is there any specific reasoning for this?
