What should I keep and what should I drop/trade?
d.walker43 replied to LucidHills's topic in General Discussion
Id drop everything you don't have ammo or clips or the actual gun for, and only keep the AK-101 and the 1911. Will increase space a ton, and you have everything you need, get a scope for the AK and it turns into a decently long range gun, and then you can have your sidearm for when you have to make that final stand and your out of ammo in everything else. Remember, always save 1 for yourself :P -

Clothes layering, belt slot and items and waterskin.
d.walker43 replied to LegitOldSchool's topic in Suggestions
Like all of the ideas, definently support layering and such. Also, definently think hoods should be able to be put up, to make warmer, protect from rain, or just look more badass. Support from me. -
I would like to join you in the fight for freedom! Where do I sign up, brethren? I think it is made obvious by my profile pic that I aint no commie, Murica!

Hi guys, I have some ideas that relate to trading and such. 1: Cash. obviously it would not disappear during an apocalypse, everyone has at least a few bucks on them at pretty much any time. zombies would have it. you would find it in houses. In cars. storefronts. everywhere. would be good to implement cash, this way you could buy/sell things to people by means other than trading items. would also be a status symbol of sorts in your clan had a stockpile of cash hidden in their base. 2: trade window. sort of like in Runescape, have an option to "trade" with another player and a window pops up, each person puts whatever they wish to buy/sell in the window, and if they accept the trade hit confirm. once both players hit confirm, the trade is accepted and the items are transferred. maybe have a 2nd window that comes up asking to confirm again, to help prevent accidents and scamming. would make it a lot easier then the current system, which is pretty much drop an item and hope the other guy can find/pick it up. 3: will add more if I think of them or others suggest them. Any feedback on these ideas is appreciated, thank you for your time.

Trick or Treat, DayZ style - Community Event tonight for Halloween
d.walker43 replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Would love to join in on this, im in the middle of the woods right now though...and im bringing a gun for self defense just in case :) -
Hi guys. Before I begin, I already know the devs and Dean are against NPC's. Im not asking for info. What this thread is for is to see the communitys thoughts/ideas on the subject. Know that that's out of the way, here we go. What is everyones thoughts on adding NPC's, doing quests for them, and stuff like that? My personal thought is that they would be a great thing to add to the game. I think that if added, they should not be super common, and any that are found should be either in specific known areas, or have some sort of identification as an NPC. This would help distinguish between NPCs and actual players. These NPCs could give quests for you to do, and reward you for fulfilling specific tasks. For example, there could be a NPC in cherno trying to find a specific item or something, and bringing them said item will give you a different item, cash, or something else. The NPC's could also have limited abilities to trade and do actions like that. There could be a general store somewhere (or multiple places) that is run by an NPC, where you could sell/buy items. There could be groups of them that patrol certain towns/bases, and could either be friendly unless provoked, or if they see you holding a weapon of some sort they might attack. Or tell you to leave or they will shoot. something along those lines. The ideas are endless. I don't think NPC's should become a main focus, but I do think they should be implemented. This would give something else to do, might help reduce KOS, and would add some more "meat" to the game. Overall I think they would help. Thoughts? Please keep posts constructive, and use common sense. Also don't just tell me what the devs think. I don't care what they think, I want to see what the community thinks. Thanks.

DayZ Standalone, Or Arma 3: DayZ mod?
d.walker43 replied to Swatticus's topic in New Player Discussion
That sounds really similar to my laptop, same exact specs and brand except my i3 is only a 1.8Ghz. I can run standalone at about 40-50 fps on medium settings. I know SA optimization is shit right now, so it will probably get even better. Arma 3 is a lot harder to run, and also considering that the mods for arma 3 are from random modders, are not nearly as optimized and feature complete. The actual "DayZ mod" was for Arma 2. Arma 3 versions are just ports and recreated versions made by random kids. I personally suggest standalone, it will be most optimized, most features, and overall better in general. -
I like the concept, but a tiller/cart vehicle seems a bit far fetched. I think the extent of it should be taking a lawnmower engine, making a frame, and basically making a cheap half-ass go-kart until you get something better. Also, would like if instead of making vehicles from scrap, it be more of tons of modifications for existing vehicles. you could change out the tires/rims, add plywood reinforcements to the side, mount machine guns, add chairs in the back, change out suspension, you name it. It will be another way to put your own personal mark into the game, if you wanted to you could make a completely unique vehicle no one else has, or you could keep it looking fresh off the assembly line. 1 more thing you could use to show your playstyle, personality, etc. Would also be great for endgame content. Just imagine scouring Chernaurus for weeks, looking for that machine gun to mount to the back of your rusty old chevy. Then imagine the fun of driving around the map with your clan wrecking complete havoc anywhere you go.

2-not neccesarily, its hard to explain why though. go look up the Milgram experiments, they were scientific experiments studying humans blind obedience to authority. Has a lot to do with this. Ill sum it up, they knew that hitler was in charge, so he would be the one punished. they were deflecting responsibility, and also were probably in fear for their own lives from him. 3-not true, the 2 towns that were bombed had large military factories and installations in them, that is why they were chosen. If they wanted to hit civilians, they would have bombed Tokyo and other large population cities.

Honestly...why is there no AK-47? its the most common and most produced weapon in the world.

So hard to find mosin/attachments, or is it me?
d.walker43 replied to Leo Harrison's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes, m4's are only at crash sights. I usually find mosins in police stations, occasionally an apartment building, and the Novo tower quite often. the scopes and such I find a lot in the novo tower, and pretty randomly scattered about. ammo is usually at police stations, airfields, and other military installations. -
You have a point. But, your talking more about different countries going to war, different races, etc. millions of people in each side. In a scenario like dayz, its a matter of trusting 1 person or a small group. Obviously if you were starving, you might kill for food, that's completely acceptable and understandable. I would kill if I needed to for survival. However, irl, if you have everything you need, 4 working vehicles, a whole house of food, 17 different guns, and ammo for everything, I think that if you saw another person who needed something, you would gladly help them. Also, you cant really blame all of the humans before us for some of the things you listed. Most of the things you listed were caused by 1 person, or 1 small group of people. Just like it theoretically should be in dayz, there will always be a few people who will only kill and such. slavery-don't have a response to this one, other then it was considered normal for 100's of years. now though, it would be considered illegal, immoral, and frowned upon greatly. holocaust-caused by hitler and his fellow leaders nukes-...when has anybody nuked each other? only example I can think of would be atom bombing japan, which actually saved lives because if a land invasion of japan happened, far more Japanese and americans would have been killed. the war would have gone on longer and more would have died. it was more of a scare tactic if anything. bio/chem weapons-caused by crazies over in middle east who want to take over world, usually get shot pretty soon afterward though I see your point, I hope you see mine. Anything needs clarification don't hesitate to ask. thanks.

After reading these conversations, I see most people don't want NPC's because the game is supposed to be player driven. I have 2 arguments against this. 1-just because they are there, doesn't mean you have to use them. For example, in Minecraft or something lets say I hate all of the different animals. However im not going to stop playing the game because of this. Ill simply ignore them and stay out of there way. Same exact thing can be done with NPC's in-game. You could do whatever you wanted to do with them, and if you hated them that much, simply ignore them completely or kill any that you see. Don't really understand why this would be an immersion-breaker. 2-player driven is a concept that would theoretically work, however obviously it doesn't work too well. In a real life scenario, people would trust each other, help each other, and all of that. But in a game where there is no punishment, physically mentally or emotionally, players will always just kill each other. In order for this to be prevented, a few things need to happen. 1, there needs to be more things to do beside kill. survival, killing zombies, and NPC quests would all help with this. 2, more players per server. Even with 40, you rarely find people. They would be far more common irl, and also, if there were tons more people you actually could set up bases, put towns under your control, etc. 40 just isn't enough. 3, some sort of punishment system for killing rampages. Don't really know what type of system yet, ive thought about it a lot but something needs to happen. If people actually played how they would in real life and didn't just kill each other a ton, the player driven concept would totally work.
-
At the current moment, your correct. But if some of these things were added, it could make this game legendary if they were done correctly.
-
Not neccesarily. I know for a fact that if I saw a person, id stay hidden and make sure it was an NPC, then definently see if it had a quest for me. I know the KOS players might just shoot them, but theres ways to deter this. Just make it so NPC's drop little or really crappy loot. Then it wouldn't be worth shooting them unless they were hostile.
-
I do :P and its a great game. many things could be used from that in DayZ, and it would make this game have the potential to be legendary.
-
I understand. But if that's the case, 1 of 2 things, or both, needs to happen. 1: people need to actually trust each other a little and 2: there needs to be far more players per server. If KOS is reduced greatly somehow, I would totally agree with you. The people could fulfill the roles that NPC's do in other games. The problem is that probably 90% of the playerbase shoots people on sight. If people trusted each other a little and actually played how they would in a real life scenario, things like stores and towns being patrolled and other examples I gave would become a reality. I don't know, I just think it would help give players some things to do besides kill each other.

Obviously you didn't read what I said. I know what his thoughts are. I was asking the communitys thoughts. Please read what I said before you just look at the title and start posting away.

Where is the "unofficial patch notes" for the new patch?
d.walker43 replied to venkman302's topic in General Discussion
pretty sure it wont be posted until tomorrow, when the update goes live. then in the dev tracker it will show the stand-up notes for the .50 update. -
Hi guys, so here is my latest idea. DayZ should include a cell phone system, sort of like the one in GTA 5. powered on batteries, you should be able to call other people in the game, no matter what distance. Others could hack into your call, and listen to what you were saying. The cell phone could include a camera to take pictures with, or just tons of selfies (credit to Cpanther for an ingame camera idea). Cell phone would have internet option, but it would be disabled. There could be several wi-fi towers or something throughout the map, these could be fixed by the players on a particular server to enable the internet to work, only have certain fictional sites people can use though (similar to GTA again) likewise, people could damage the towers to disable the internet again. There could be other options too on the phone, post them if you think of any. I don't know if there would be any copyright issues with Rockstar if this system was used, as it is very similar to the cell phone in GTA. If there was, then oh well. Anyway, that's my idea. post feedback/more suggestions/constructive critisicm below. Keep it on-topic and friendly. Thanks!
