possible solution to server hopping for loot?
d.walker43 replied to d.walker43's topic in Suggestions
I like this idea better than my own. The island hopping part. I remember seeing somewhere that one of the devs had briefly mentioned a possible plan to do something like this, but not on the coasts, I believe they mentioned about doing it where the map "ends" and its just flat nothingness forever. You should go make a new thread with this idea if you havnt already. make sure the right people see it. Nicely done. -
Theres actually quite a few incorrect ammo names and compatibilities. Ive just decided to overlook them, I think once we reach feature-complete they will most likely go back with a fine tooth comb and fix this and other issues like it. I mean I know its a game-breaking glitch and all, but still... :P

H1Z1, a very bad game in itself, did do a couple things that were right and DayZ should take notice of. 1 of those being that your player is locked into a specific server. However, to combat the problem of wanting to play with friends, how about something like your allowed to server hop once per day or something? That way you can still switch if your home server gets boring or abandoned, you can join your friends, but server hopping for loot would take so long and be so slow, it would not be worth the wait. Thoughts?

I like all 3 ideas. The plane should be a static spot though. I like the idea of seeing signs of outside civilization who had flown over the no-fly zone and got shot down in the early days of the quarantine. I think with the motorcycle idea, you shouldn't find it all in 1 piece. Not only would you need to find all the parts (spark plugs, gas, tires, etc.) to get the motorcycle itself running, but I think the sidecar and the gun should both spawn separately as well. Maybe have the ability to mount any LMG to the sidecar, or just shoot any rifle/pistol out of it? Also, the underground bunker could be an awesome spot to not only have creepy moments and gunfights, but could also really enhance the lore.

some ideas for "signs of the apocalypse" to be added
d.walker43 posted a topic in General Discussion
Hey guys. My title is kind of vague so let me elaborate. Are there going to be more areas and textures and such that show that an apocalypse actually happened here? Im not saying there aren't any now, but there needs to be a lot more. Places like the International Hotel in Cherno. The roadblocks scattered around, which were a great idea and good improvement. But there needs to be a lot more. Below I'll list a couple of my ideas. Some may already be in the works, some may not be. Ive searched a bit about this and havnt found very much. Anyway here goes. 1: most of the everyday buildings should look more "abandoned." Lets remember that DayZ takes place several years after the infection. After several years of neglect, many of the buildings would begin to fall apart. Plants and such would be growing around and inside them. They should look more like the houses in Miscreated, some of the houses in h1z1 are like this as well. 2: most everyday buildings shouldn't be so organized. People likely left in a hurry. All the furniture and items shouldn't still be neat and orderly. Things should be thrown about, furniture tipped over, and for the diehards who wouldn't leave and were gonna camp it out, lets see some haphazard barricades on some buildings? To say it simple, Chernaurus should be a mess. And that leads to my next point. 3: signs of the evacuation. The recently added roadblocks and very small military checkpoints were a huge step in the right direction. But there needs to be more. On some of the major highways, when everyone was trying to get out of the city, there would be traffic jams for miles. Many would have abandoned there cars. Once some larger highways and roads are added, I'd like to see traffic jams that could go for miles. These could also be a hotspot for coming across working vehicles and their parts. 4: refugee camps and military concentration/containment camps. As the infection spread, the Chernaurus military (along with the UN and anyone else who helped) would have attempted to contain the infected, and rescue the uninfected. We already see some signs of this at the military bases, but there needs to be some areas dedicated purely to this. Camps where the infected were gathered, and attempted to be cured, or put out of their misery. Also, camps where survivors gathered or were brought to, and were evacuated out of the country, via land convoys and air vehicles. 5: signs of riots and protesting in the larger cities. As the end drew near, there would have been rioters and looters running around the streets. Also, large groups of people would probably be protesting something, like the militarys harshness in dealing with it or something like that. As the events unfolded, the remaining survivors would have fought among themselves. We even see this in real life today, on a much smaller scale of course. An example would be how currently in the US, as im sure you have probably heard or seen, several African americans have been killed by white police and there have been protests in several cities and looters and rioters on at least 2 occasions. As the military killed infected people, its inevitable that people would be against it and would be protesting. Lets see some signs of that. 6: more dynamic/random events, OR more static areas. Right now we have the heli crashes, tanks, etc. and that's great. Well right now they are static but we all know their intended purpose (which is hopefully fixed soon). We should see some more of these, possibly some non-military ones, or some more diverse military ones. For example, as people evacuated, the local airports would have been overwhelmed. There would almost guaranteed be several passenger planes shot down. We could have a downed 747 or 2 on the map somewhere, either be random events, or just be another area to visit, like the beached cargo ship AKA Rify. Also, tying into the lore I described earlier, we could see some military convoys that were overwhelmed or attacked by militias, or even the undead. There are many possibilities for things like this. So anyway, those are my ideas. If you guys come up with any more I'll gladly add them to the list and give you credits. Tell me what you think below. Thanks, and sorry it was such a long read. -
Because this is DayZ. Not Arma. as I said to the last guy, if I wanted to play Arma, I would play it, not a Arma-like mod for DayZ. Hell, in a scenario like that it sounds more like Battlefield. I'm perfectly OK with people who add more DayZ stuff to the game, servers with more vehicles, more guns, bigger maps, stuff like that. These are mods. Altering things such as what people spawn with and core game functions isn't modding, its hacking. Its creating a hacked server. Which is a problem, that I did not create.
-
If I wanted to play Arma 3, I would play Arma 3. Not the Arma 3 mod for DayZ. I am in no way alienating the modding community in any way, so where you made that assumption from is beyond me. I even said it in my previous post, im not against it. I just don't want the shit where everyone spawns with all the loot and theres no zombies and unlimited vehicles and all that. Those aren't mods, those are hacks. If I wanted an all-out open world deathmatch with vehicles, I'd go play GTA. If people made good MODS, not hacks, I'm perfectly fine with it. As long as there are purely vanilla servers to fall back on, in the event that it (inevitably, with all the 12 year old cod kiddies playin) goes to shit. If BI remains in control of it, I'm all for it.

some ideas for "signs of the apocalypse" to be added
d.walker43 replied to d.walker43's topic in General Discussion
link to info on this? I never saw it. We can arrange to change that if you'd like. ...then where is it? If its been suggested this many times, then how come the devs have not addressed it? why not? poopsmears are quite common where children are common. TO ALL: sorry for such long post. I think I answered everyone though. -
I love the idea of GOOD mods. not like how lots of games become, full of a ton of hacked servers and hackers and overall shit. As long as there is a good antihack system in place, and there will always be vanilla servers to fall back on, im game for it. I just don't want it to be like Garrys Mod, where every server is a shitstorm of missing textures and lag.

I agree, some of these ideas are no-brainers. This thread isn't so much a suggestion, but more of a question. Where are all these no-brainer ideas at then? -
some ideas for "signs of the apocalypse" to be added

1: im not saying either of us are wrong, but from everything ive heard its been at least a year. otherwise there would be far more infected, remember this was a whole country before shit hit the fan. Also, your point about the fresh fruit is kind of irrelevant, since just cuz power went out, there would still be people with generators trying to camp it out. 2: 1 word. panic. You and others may try to leave quietly, because your smart. but you know that the majority would rush and try to get out. Or throw up some half-ass barricades, move some furniture, etc. By evacuation, I meant basically the entire population all trying to leave the country. Before the quarantines were put in place. Everyone would be hurrying to get out as quickly as once. No time to worry about being orderly. 3: There would have been both. I imagine the checkpoints and such would have facilities for scanning people for the infection, if they cleared then they were let through. It would be considered genocide by the other nations if they just fenced everyone in. See my point about the concentration camps and refugee camps. 4: That's kind of my point of the entire thing. There would be no time to clean up the vehicle wrecks, the camps, the traffic jams. so where are they all now? Also, if towns were placed under martial law, you know everyone wouldn't cooperate. there would be rioters and looters still. 5: this one doesn't really require a response. we sort of agree. 6: I agree with the whole quarantine theme, but it would not have been instant. A full-blown quarantine is a last stand effort. The checkpoints and the convoys and all that would have been first. Then, as things got worse, they would have given the order to quarantine and kill on sight as a final stand. Before this, as the end was just beginning, the people who paid attention to the radio and tv would have made it out in time. Confused about your point on the one about the spec ops teams and helis. Arent we saying the same thing? What would be wrong with having some other stuff besides helis? Lets see some crashed AC130's or big passenger 747's or something. ***I know. My bad, I was simply using the word to refer to them and not call them "zombies" a million times. My bad, poor word choice. However, your point about the winter thing isn't neccesarily true. Considering there isn't a ton of zombies left, there very well may have been a winter roll through. This was an entire countrys population wiped out. Now theres only a couple hundred left. Winter wouldn't wipe them out completely. Some would have been lucky enough to been inside buildings and stuff, and just happen to survive. NOTE: I don't mean to sound aggressive in my debates. Ive had people get pissed and think im trying to offend and argue with them. Im not. just defending my points. Thanks. -
hey guys. I took a several month break, but now im back. Ive noticed the game runs a lot poorly then it used to. Is optimization a high priority still, or are they focusing more on adding new guns and random stuff like that? I used to be able to play at 40-50FPS on medium settings, now on medium im struggling to get 30. Also, servers seem to be taking longer to load and most of them aren't even online. I guess im just wondering whats in store for DayZ optimization-wise. Thanks.

The Communitys Official Vehicle/Vehicle Idea Thread Version 1.5 (Now with constantly changing polls!)
d.walker43 posted a topic in Suggestions
Hello all, this is the official thread for the community to make suggestions regarding vehicles and vehicle suggestions/ideas. This post will include confirmed vehicles, wanted vehicles, ideas, suggestions, etc. This post will constantly be being edited to attempt to stay up to date. Also, I will be posting these vehicles official names as much as I can, but due to copyright or whatever in-game they may have a nickname or similar sounding name, like in GTA 5. NOTE: NOW INCLUDING POLLS! These will be constantly changing, and the votes will include thoughts on vehicles listed here, features that are undecided, and many other things! make sure to cast your vote, and keep the ideas coming! Last Updated: 1/16/15 at 6:32 AM Already Implemented Vehicles-any vehicles that are already in the game, and what build they are in. (if it is in stable, then obviously it is also in experimental.) ~V3S transport truck (stable) Confirmed Civilian Vehicles-civilian vehicles that are for sure confirmed by devs or Dean. ~small cars ~bicycle ~ATV (4 wheeler) ~police car ~fire truck ~ambulance ~motorcycle ~SUV Confirmed Military Vehicles-military vehicles confirmed by devs or Dean. ~hum-vee ~V3S transport truck Confirmed Air Vehicles-air vehicles confirmed by devs/Dean. ~military heli ~civilian heli ~small Cessna plane Other Confirmed Vehicles-vehicles confirmed by devs/Dean that don't fit into any other category. ~small civilian boat ~large civilian boat Below are vehicles wanted by us, the community, but are not confirmed yet. If people vote in favor of them I will make them dark green (to differentiate between confirmed vehicles) and if voted against I will make them red or add them to confirmed as no list. Wanted civilian Vehicles- these are vehicles that are not neccesarily confirmed, but are wanted in the game by us, the community. ~Volkswagen Beetle ~limo (GAZ13/14) ~minivan ~mini-truck ~Porshe sports car ~civilian hummers ~3-wheeler ATV (predecessor to 4 wheeler, literally 4 wheeler but only 1 wheel in front) ~riding lawnmower ~tractor ~backhoe ~steam-roller thing ~Ford Mustang ~Chevy Camaro ~Dodge Challenger ~pick-up truck-Chevy Silverado, Dodge Ram, Ford F150 ~dirt bikes ~mopeds ~jeeps (off-road and on-road versions, could change out tires for offroad or normal, also could change out the top/doors like on a real jeep.) ~Jeep Wrangler (2 door and 4 door versions) ~moving vans (basically a moveable tent) ~Volkswagen vans ~windowless white vans ~Betty vans ~tandem bike (2 seated bike) Wanted Military Vehicles-military vehicles wanted in-game by the community. ~BA-30 half-track (turret for cosmetic purposes only) Wanted Air Vehicles-air vehicles wanted by the community. ~none Wanted Other Vehicles-other vehicles that are wanted by the community ~john boat (small fishing boat) ~RHIB boat (no turret, can add assault rifle mounted or something) ~skateboards Anti-Confirmed Vehicles- vehicles that for sure will NOT be in the game for whatever reason. This is based on what devs will be adding, im not counting what modders will inevitably add in. ~tanks Vehicle Suggestions- ideas that have to do with vehicles, if they are green they are confirmed, orange community votes in favor and red means the community does not want, blue means undecided. ~driveable RV's ~trailers that attach to cars with a hitch, trailers for boats, ATV's/dirt bikes, more supplies, etc. Making it so you could have a boat or a dirt bike or something at the ready depending on the terrain you must cross. ~ability to make a car out of ramshackle parts, for example a red car with a blue door, or a Prius with off-road tires :P ~spraypainting cars, to either change color completely or airbrush designs on to them, probably need more colors of spraypaint before this is added. ~ability to shift gears, use parking brake, etc. in order to coast down hills and such, also to add realism to driving. ~similar to above, ability to shift car/ATV/whatever into neutral, and have 1 or more people push it. would be obviously easier to push something like an ATV then a full size truck. would be good so you could push back to base in event of mechanical breakdown or fuel shortage. ~ability to add tape or other material to damage in body of car, in order to make her look perty again ~gasoline rare, cars common ~working train that goes around map ~tons of islands ~siphoning gas most common way to receive it, could also find jerry cans/gas cans at certain places. ~functional car radios, people on walkie talkies on same channel could talk and it would be broadcasted from car radio, but car radio cannot respond. Also could be used for jamming to some tunes while your on the way to your next location. Several people could stand nearby, listening to a broadcast from a clan or something. it would have many purposes. ~jump starting cars ~will add more as they are suggested/thought of. PARTS LIST-this is the list of parts that are changeable and could go bad on a vehicle. The communitys wanted level of rarity for finding the part will also be included. The categories will include very common, common, uncommon, rare, very rare. Every part can also be found in different conditions, and the part will work better and last longer the better condition it is in. ~gasoline (uncommon) ~spark plug (very common) ~tire (common) ~battery (rare) ~electronic circuit (rare) ~brakes (rare) ~air filter (very common) Thats it for now. This thread will grow as more vehicles and ideas get confirmed/rejected, ill try to keep it up to date. Thanks for reading, and post your ideas you would like me to add to the list below! -

UPDATE: Im back everyone. I'll admit, I abandoned dayz for h1z1. but now I realize that at the current moment both games suck equally. So im returning here..for now. -
You aren't the first one to doubt this, a while back a few people had a similar reaction as you. They didn't believe me so I posted a screenshot. This isn't the only game that runs surprisingly well on this PC, I can run H1Z1, Defiance, MW2, and a few other higher-end games with pretty good results. I set most of the settings lower, but then set all of the resolution-related settings maxed out, it makes the image look better without effecting performance. Anyway here is a link to the screenshot. I personally have a laptop that may be only slightly better then yours, and I am able to play DayZ at medium/high settings at around 40 fps. My laptop: CPU: CORE i3 4010U 1.7Ghz GPU: Intel HD 4400 RAM: 6GB RAM Windows 8 64-bit 1366x768 screen resolution For you, I suggest you upgrade your ram to at least 6, probably 8. Also, turn all settings to low but then max out the resolution-related ones. That makes the picture look good but wont affect performance too much.

Hi guys, Recently ive been trying to hunt in dayZ and I have some ideas that would help the system benefit. I am a hunter in real life, so I know a lot about the subject, and have some ideas that are realistic and would improve the hunting system as a whole. 1: animal trails. Lets say your walking in the woods, and you come upon what looks like the plants have been padded down, and obviously something or multiple somethings have walked through here. animals in real life make trails through the woods like this, and following the trail likely will lead you to a burrow, or where a deer or something is laying down. 2: sounds. pretty simple, if an animal is walking near you, you hear its footsteps. if you shoot it, it runs, and when it falls you could hear the thump. Pretty self explanatory. 3: more types of animals. right now there is pretty much deer, pigs, and occasionally a cow or something. I think there needs to be far more variation. There needs to be different types of animals, such as big game, small game, waterfowl, etc. Also, some aggressive animals, such as wolves and cougars. Would definently love to see ducks, geese, different fish variants, coyotes, wolves, along with all the stuff we have now obviously. 4: damage/blood loss. Ill use a deer as an example. In real life, the area you want to hit is right behind the front leg/shoulder, as this where the heart and lungs are. I think if you shoot an animal in the correct spot, the blood loss, time it takes for it to die, and distance it runs before it dies should be effected. Would make it very realistic. This leads to my next point. 5: tracking and bloods trails. When an animal (or people or zombies) is wounded, it bleeds and leaves a blood trail, just like in real life. If you get a good shot on it, it will probably drop pretty quickly. if it isn't a very good shot, it will bleed and you will have to find the blood and follow the trail. The worse the shot, the fainter/less blood there will be. also could leave tracks (footprints), to help assist in tracking as well. 6: animals effected by weather, time, etc. By this, I mean animals behave as they would in real life. If it is raining/storming, the animals would be more bedded down in forests, laying low and not moving around much. If its cold, they would probably be doing the same thing. Certain animals such as raccoons, wolves, etc. would be a bit more active at night, while others, such as squirrels, would be more active during the daytime. Also fits in with animals being more common by food sources and water sources, such as creeks, ponds, fields, etc. This would mean you could set up a pile of corn or something by your camp, to attempt to bait in some deer. This is illegal to do in real life, but obviously in an apocalyptic situation anything goes. 7: blinds and stands. I know that there are some random deer stands scattered throughout the map, but I think you should have the ability to make your own, or find some. In a sporting goods store, you could find say a tree stand, and go set it up in the woods by your camp to hunt out of. Once base building is implemented, you could build your own duck/goose blind and set it up in a field or by a lake. Make it realistic, you would have to know where to place it if the animals followed realistic movement and flight paths according to temp, time, place, etc. Also, make them as aware of their surroundings as they are in real life. If you and your blind are not camo-ed enough, the ducks and/or geese will obviously see you and fly away. Same with deer stands. This leads to my next and final point. 8: animals FAR more observant of surroundings. In real life, if you even move around too much a deer will hear you immediately and run away. If hunting for waterfowl, if your blind and you are not camo-ed enough then the birds will see you and fly away. Right now, In game they sometimes wont even run away when you shoot at them. This needs to be made far more realistic, one of the biggest parts of hunting any animal is stealth. Well, that's all I have for now. I know its a lot, I tried to divide it up a little to make it easier. Any thoughts, comments, questions, additional ideas, anything is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I'd be fine with it but you have to light it, no shooting it. that doesn't actually work in real life unless a flame is already present nearby.

thank you for posting this I looked for it on youtube but could not find it.

The Communitys Official Vehicle/Vehicle Idea Thread Version 1.5 (Now with constantly changing polls!)
d.walker43 replied to d.walker43's topic in Suggestions
I like your ideas. Your ideas of spawning sound pretty accurate. The only one I did not like is I think cities like Cherno and elektro should have more then you suggest. I think that the larger cities should have lots of cars, most of them with broken components but some working too, maybe at a ratio of like 80% to 20%. Some of the larger roads should be filled with cars, again mostly broken. Once the infection began and the situation began to get out of hand, tons and tons of people would be fleeing the cities in an attempt to leave the country. There would be major gridlock on the major roads. There should be many cars here and in cities, but also more zombies. If zombies were on the roads in the traffic jam, the people would have no escape or they would get out and try to run, and be infected. There should be huge hoards of zombies in these areas to make it extremely hard to acquire a vehicle from here, making it require stealth, teamwork, and some decent firepower to get a vehicle this easily. I liked the ideas on basic problems most of the cars would have. I have a few comments on them though. 1: everything you suggested on this one I liked, I would like to add the ability to jump start a car. You would have to do this every time until a new battery was found or a charger was found. 2: This is obviously going to be there, but I don't think it should make the car undriveable. It should drive slower and maybe will lean a little one way or the other, but a car is still driveable even with a broken tire. 3: Also good, but if the car is a manual transmission, which lots of European and Russian cars are, they can be push started. This is the same with ATV's, dirt bikes, and anything else with a manual tranny in it. With a small vehicle like the ATV/dirt bike it can just be pushed by a person, but a car would probably need a hill or something to get it going fast enough. (if you don't know what push starting is, its where you get the vehicle moving at a decent speed by pushing or rolling, then you give it some gas and then shift it into first gear, this works for any vehicle with a manual transmission in it.) 4: this one is obvious. no comments here. Everything else I like, great ideas I will be adding all of these to the list. Keep it up. -
I believe the camper is labeled as RV and it is in the bottom section of the list.

Hi guys, so my idea is that gun shots be made much louder. Right now they are extremely quiet, and can only be heard from pretty short distances away. High-caliber rounds such as Mosin or M4 should be able to be heard from several miles away. Any zombies in the area should automatically become interested and move to the location, not at full speed but maybe 50% to 75% speed. This would also make silencers and using smaller rounds much more useful, and once more zombies are added it will add a bit more of a stealth element because you don't want to attract hordes of zombies. I know this happens in real life because about 8 miles away from my house there is a shooting range, occasionally when im out in the backyard I can hear shots going off. Obviously they are very quiet, and I usually can only hear what are obviously higher caliber rounds. But in Dayz, you can only hear a mosin from under 1 mile away. This also would not be very hard to implement, the devs wouldn't have to create anything from scratch, and then just upload the new sounds. I know its hard obviously, but not as hard as most suggestions are. Anyway, there's my idea. any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

Support. Whenever im hunting if I only shoot 1 or 2 out of my 3 shots I always top it off to wait for the next wave of ducks. In game, you don't have to shoot them all though. You can eject the shells out manually, pick them up and combine them with some from your inventory, then reload the gun. Still we need the ability to top off our ammo.

This is already in the official list of vehicles, it is not confirmed but it is voted in favor of. The search tool, and official lists, are your friends. I understand you might be new to the forums but please use the tools and lists you are given before you just make a "new" suggestion.

Hi guys, so I have some ideas regarding geography that, in no particular order,I think would make the game more interesting, realistic, and better overall. 1: large rivers inland. I think this would be good because it would add more water sources, make boat transportation (once implemented) a bit more practical, and would add another obstacle to go around or cross. should be very hard or impossible to cross by swimming. 2: some large bridges/highways. bridges could span over said rivers, adding areas to cross but also adding good spots for bandits to set up a checkpoint or toll. some bigger highways would be nice too, im talking like around 4 lanes of traffic on each side, these should be filled with abandoned cars and such, also filled with zombies but could connect some of the larger cities with each other. 3: one very large city somewhere. probably could expand cherno or one of those to make it huge. Im thinking so that it would be like a real life larger city, if your in the middle of it you should not be able to see the end of it, there should be that many buildings and roads and such. Also should be filled with zombies, it should be nearly suicide to go here but would obviously have pretty good loot. 4: islands. I know this has already been suggested. Simply bringing it up again, I think its a good idea. 5: will add more if I think of them or if community suggests. Thanks for reading, post any feedback or additional ideas below.
