Hi guys, I have some more ideas that I think should be implemented into the game. 1: Whittling. Have the ability to use a knife of any sort and carve things. For example, You could sharpen the end of an ashwood stick and turn it into a make-shift spear. Or carve your own wooden fish hooks to use for fishing, as the metal ones are so damn rare. The possibilities are endless as to what you could do. This would make knives much more useful as well. 2: Outdoor shops. Considering that Dayz is based on a country that relies heavily on hunting/fishing, I would think there would be some outdoors shops around. These would have outdoors supplies such as guns, ammo, fishing supplies, camo clothing, etc. Just another lootable building. 3: ability to set snares. This would be used to catch small game, such as rabbits or squirrels. Also could have different versions of it, maybe even have human sized ones eventually. these could be found in outdoor shops and common houses, or have a makeshift version that is less effective but can be crafted. 4: more rivers/ponds. These are somewhat uncommon at the moment, if they made them more common this would make fishing much more practical. Also, once this is done get rid of some of the water pumps, and have natural water be dirty and give sickness, unless a water purification tablet is used. 5: new animation for eating. This one is pretty self explanatory. Right now it looks...uh...very primitive. I understand some of these (if not all) would be hard to implement, developing a game is tough and they need to worry about bigger priorities first. I simply think these are all good ideas, and most would help increase the survival aspect of it. It would make fishing/hunting more practical and useful, especially if the spawn rate of canned food was turned down. Anyway, please tell me what you think of these ideas. Also, go check out my first list I made of suggestions as well. Thanks!

3 things that would change dayz for the better
d.walker43 replied to d.walker43's topic in Suggestions
yea, I was thinking all along that radios would be one of the last things on the list, as everyone, including me, will want vehicles and base building before radios, I simply thought it would be a cool idea after the big things are implemented. I have to disagree with what you said about people just using Skype/teamspeak instead of normal in-game radios. Sure, the try-hard bandits would, but people just playing to have fun would probably use the in-game stuff because it's more realistic, and people would want to try it out and try setting up a radio station like you said. Once I got looted up it would be fun to go back to my groups camp and attempt to role-play as 3-dog broadcasting Galaxy News Radio to Chernaraus. "This is 3-dog, owww! and your listening to Galaxy News Radio!" lol. anyway, thanks for the good discussion, hope this ends up in the game at some point. -
I did one time kill another player in a police station, he was crouched with his hands on his head and was not responding to anything I said. I waited for a second for a typed response, after a good 10 seconds I decided to kill him, fearing it was a trap and he was relaying my location to his clan mates. I pulled out my mosin with scope and aimed the crosshairs right between his eyes, fired, (he had no helmet on whatsoever), and it appeared to do nothing to him. I was literally 5 feet away aimed between his eyes with a scoped mosin. I fired again, and the 2nd shot killed him instantly. But for some reason that first shot appeared to not register. Don't know if this is similar to what you experienced, but it was strange. Hope I helped.

3 things that would change dayz for the better

Well that's interesting, ive gotta be honest and say ive never heard of or seen that before. I'll take your word for it though. However, the average walkie talkie doesn't do that, your workplace probably specially programmed them or somehow bought them specially programed, which is possible. I still think it would be impractical for several people in a room to all be huddled around the same walkie. Maybe instead of a radio have a external speaker that can be used with the walkie talkie to turn it into a radio of sorts? If this speaker was plugged in, make it so the walkie talkie could be loud enough to hear throughout a whole building, or maybe even louder? idk, I just think we need something that can be placed stationary while your character goes elsewhere and can talk through the stationary device, whether that be a radio or speaker or whatever. As I stated somewhere else, this would be perfect for clans and such as then every single person wouldn't need a walkie talkie. -
I like this idea, especially because it requires no updates, all of the resources are already there, its just nobody thought of it yet! great idea, im going to start doing this from now on

There is an option in vid settings, try changing your render distance, or anything else that has to do with sight or distance, if you have a good pc just put everything higher, but if your on a low-end rig you might just have to deal with it, as everyone knows lower settings=less lag

3 things that would change dayz for the better
d.walker43 replied to d.walker43's topic in Suggestions
Well, I went and did some research and didn't really prove either of us right or wrong. Some people said its possible, some said its not. I know dayz attempts to be as realistic as possible, but they do bend the rules on certain things. I think this could be an exception, because as I said I didn't find any solid proof of it being impossible either. If you have an idea on how to make this work and it be 100% possible irl, please let me know so I can edit the OP to make it more realistic. Thanks, as I was not for sure if this was possible or not, im still not sure but whatever lol :P . -

Just a normal battery operated portable radio, they actually have them sitting in lots of the ordinary houses in dayz right now they just don't do anything. Have you ever turned a walkie talkie all the way up, vs. turning a radio all the way up? turning up a walkie talkie loudly is like playing music through a phone for a group of people without a speaker plugged in. If everybody is silent and all huddle around the phone, you can hear it. Plug in the speaker, and everyone can hear it loud and clear even from a different room. The walkie talkie all the way up is like the phone itself, the radio all the way up is like if it has a speaker plugged in. its signifigantly louder. Hopefully I cleared things up, sorry about the confusion. -

That's good to hear too. However, even turning a walkie talkie all the way up isn't very loud. I think the walkie talkie shouldn't be able to receive radio stations. That doesn't work irl, so thats why I suggest that radios would be able to receive voice or music or whatever else and broadcast it loudly. The walkie talkie should only be used for talking/listening to 1 other person, while the radio should be able to broadcast any sounds to the whole room or house or area. The only association between them being that a person with a walkie would be able to be heard out of a radio, but NOT vice versa. EDIT: the walkie talkie could be used with multiple people, but each person would need their own walkie, but with a radio you would only need 1 in the room for everyone to hear, they just couldn't talk back. -

That's good to hear that more zombies are planned. With walkie talkies, you can only talk to a certain person. If a radio is tuned to the same channel, it will broadcast the voice throughout the whole room for everyone in the room or even house to hear, once base building is completed it will be very useful so every player wouldn't need a walkie talkie. And just because you think the GPS will be added doesn't mean its already planned. Thanks for the info about zombies though, that's good news. -
Based on my most recent death I have an idea for a new item/ability in dayz. You should be able to filter salt water to make it drinkable. I had run for nearly a half hour from the northern corner of the map all the way along the western border to the south-west corner, and from there I was going to make my way back east to Balota. I began to run short of supplies, and was thirsty for most of the trip. nearly to the coast, I was "dying of dehydration". the thought crossed my mind that it was salt water at the coast, but it was my only shot. I made it there, and obviously i couldn't drink the water. I attempted to run along the coast to a nearby town (i had seen it on the map, idk what the name was. It was between the corner and Balota and it had a water pump). I went unconscious on the way to said town, and obviously ended up dying. Anyway, my idea is you should have the ability to filter salt water into drinkable water, or simply be able to drink salt water with some sort of added side effect. Have a filter that can be found as loot, or be able to craft an improvised one out of common supplies. I know this is possible, it has been demonstrated on shows like "Survivorman" and "Man vs. Wild" several times. Well, that's my suggestion. Any thoughts or feedback are appreciated, criticizing is fine but please no just being a vulgar idiot. Thanks.

Great News! do we know when it will be pushed to stable yet? -
Hi guys, so ive been playing Dayz on my laptop and right now I get fine fps, but my graphics look like crap. Im wondering if anyone has some tweaks and settings I should change to bump up my graphics a bit with sacrificing fps. I get about 40-ish in forests and 20-25 in cities. Its playable, but all of my graphics settings are on low/off and it looks really bad. I want it to look better but I don't want to lose fps, and am simply wondering if anyone has any tips/tricks on what settings to increase/decrease. Thanks, and serious answers only please. Heres my specs if anybody needs to know them Laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 CPU: Intel CORE i3 @1.7ghz GPU: Intel HD 4400 RAM: 6GB standard ram Monitor: 1366x768 Anything else just ask :)

Woah there son, im scared now. He wants a ladder to kill me! Watch out, we got a badass over here!

I have noticed it takes several tries sometimes before it responds, however ive never had to hit any button more then 2 or 3 times before it registers, and it rarely does it at all. How old is your keyboard? theres the chance that it could be going out and certain keys are breaking. Also, once we hit beta and better optimization comes it will make things much better.

ideal settings for best graphics without losing fps?
d.walker43 replied to d.walker43's topic in Troubleshooting
I tried your graphics tips, and they work great! I was on a night server so I didn't get the full effect, but I noticed the biggest change was when I bumped my resolution up to 200% and to my monitors maximum res, as the first one was only at 150% and the 2nd one was on like the 2nd to minimum out of like 10 options, so that made all of the pictures and words look perfectly clear now, and my fps looks slightly faster, not a ton though. Maybe a 10 fps increase? idk, still enough to make a signifigant difference though. Also just looking through the forest, I could see that the trees/grass looked really good too. I might mess with the config files too later like you said, im extremely happy with how it looks right now, you have my beans! -

Every Server I Join Says " Losing Connection "
d.walker43 replied to AnthonyBuggg's topic in Troubleshooting
This happened to me when I used to play mw2, and I tried restarting my pc and I did a power-cycle. I also had a Ethernet cable. Usually if it happened if I got off and tried it again 10 minutes later it worked flawlessly. dayz might be different obviously but I would say just try again later, otherwise I don't know what to tell ya, sorry. -
ideal settings for best graphics without losing fps?
d.walker43 replied to d.walker43's topic in Troubleshooting
Thanks, I will try out the top section but I have some concerns about the bottom. I am slightly afraid to mess with the config files, as I don't want to screw something up and mess up my whole game. Is it possible to make a copy of the files in a different folder first, then edit them? I would want to do this so I still have a copy of the original files if something goes wrong. Thanks! -
I agree, I hate everytime I see a radio on a table and cant do anything with it. Or I see a refridgerator that could have food in it but cannot be opened. You get the point. I actually think they are going to add containers that can be opened and looted, such as fridges and cabinets

ideal settings for best graphics without losing fps?
d.walker43 replied to d.walker43's topic in Troubleshooting
Hi there, I have 2 things to say 1: I have a gaming desktop at home that can run it no problem (not sure of exact specs on it), so that's not a problem and 2: Is it possible to add another graphics card to a laptop? I know it is obviously possible on a desktop tower, but I did some research a while ago and came to the result that you couldn't upgrade/add another gpu if you have a laptop with integrated card. Anyway, thanks. I know my hardware sucks but it was a gift from my parents for schoolwork mostly, and obviously they didn't want to fork out a ton of cash because they don't understand the advantages of better hardware :P -

Most of these ideas sound great, and I would love, however I also have a few objections to make. 1: The sleeping gas and other high-end military gear is a bit over the top. As someone else said, these are average citizens. We already have grenades/flashbangs, I think sleeping gas is too much. So is decoy grenades. 2: The radio frequency jammer is another thing that an average citizen would likely not find, and even more likely not be able to operate. 3: There is already night vision goggles in the game, they are extremely rare though. Other then that, I loved all of these ideas. I think on the radio, you should be able to set it to different channels and be able to talk through it using a walkie talkie or other device. This way, if your friend is sniping somewhere and has a radio set up you could relay messages back to him such as location of other players and such. Higher end radio=longer broadcasting distance. There would be people setting up their own radio stations and such, and could be used to help friends find each other from far away. They should also be built into cars. Anyway, these are mostly all great ideas and I hope the devs see this and take a few of these ideas and put them in-game.

I like all of your ideas, and the animation one. I know they eventually plan on adding barricading/base building, so you would be able to barricade a doorway with wood or whatever that would have to be broken down to enter. Anyway, I support all of these.
