if you're going through a town and the zombies start running at you, you won't take any damage if you dodge just enough that they contact the side of the truck not the front. beware those wide shallow curbs in some towns though - they turn your suspension into a bouncy house and you'll have to really fight to keep control. trucks spawns aren't broken - persistence is just actually working (that part of it anyway). trucks are where people left them. most are hidden, and the rest (the ones you find) are where someone got stuck or ran out of gas or got bounced by the server.

did a lengthy trade with john-russell involving a truck, replacement shoes, jerry cans, another truck, 3 characters, half a dozen servers, a flare gun, a cow and a chicken, and again the first truck. and potatoes. would recommend scotch

I think the gear would be all over the ground if he pulled it all off you, which some people do. if he just took only what he wanted without scattering it and then just hid you, I'm pretty sure there'd be no trace of you. agreed, you shouldn't be able to loot your own body. personally I think dying should despawn that character's tents and all his possessions (but not until glitch deaths are fixed). -

you despawn after a short time I think. also, whoever set the landmine may have looted and hid your body. -

you need a reason? well, to each their own...

if you find a jerry can, fill it with water. you can't drink from it (even purified) but it's enough water for a LOT of farming without having to touch your drinking supply.

why aren't your friends coming to meet YOU with food? also I'd suggest that once you get on your feet again, go leave yourself food and water bottles in a backpack near the south spawns (you don't really need that for novo spawns).

I recently started playing on european servers. ping is higher, but jerkiness and rubberbanding isn't nearly as ridiculous. -

I'd say a complete wipe of everything is completely warranted and necessary. starting from nothing is more interesting than sitting on backpacks full of stuff anyway.
