so when is the move to the new engine?

Yeah seriously, if they haven't created a new engine then it doesn't really deserve to have a new name. I will take back everything I previously said and call this a pure marketing strategy. It's now a zebra:

so when is the move to the new engine?

If that is the case then give it a version number and not a new name!

so when is the move to the new engine?

Ok let me explain it from my experience. I write some code for a helicopter in 2006. Then I start making some improvements to the code and some more. At some stage during these improvements I notice that the new code has hardly if anything in common with the original code. Now I have the option to call it version 9.0 or give it a whole new name. The same would have happened at BI, they would have taken the old ARMA 2 engine and used that as a base. More and more new code was added as old code was removed to achieve things they wanted to introduce into the game mechanics and physics. Now at some point one of the programmers would have made a joke saying this new code has nothing left in common with the old code. That is the spark it takes to make the decision to give it a new name and call it a new engine and I don't think this is a marketing idea. More so that this new engine has nothing or hardly anything left in common with the old one.

so when is the move to the new engine?

Your guess is a good as anyone's if it will be for sale. If they decide to give it a name then it is a NEW Engine, now you can argue at what percent of improved/changed/added code an engine is a new one, but once you give it its own name then it is a New engine and for the sake of sanity mention that it is based off the old one.
  5. Happened to me too, exactly the same, toon 3 months old, two guys suddenly pop out of thin air next to me running over a field in the far north. Shot me in the head and I said "thank you, now I can explore a new life..." in a friendly tone (that screws up their fun of trying to grief people). Side note: Playing from the start again was fun and I managed to explore a ton of new stuff. I even took the opportunity with my first fresh bambie toon, to run into Berenzino, grabbed an ax and split open a bandit head snipe-camping on the roof.

so when is the move to the new engine?

A stage coach and a car are both based on the wheel. You would say a stage coach and a car are the same, or say a car is an improved version of a stage coach or both are improved versions of the wheel. That's ok and I respect your opinion. :P

Isn't that how you make new engines?

    Hawks as companion animals

Yeah, you got me there, but from the looks of this world I don't think they had security cams in the supermarkets or gas stations. Still having companion animals like dogs and hawks help you survive and warn you when there is a threat is a great idea.

    Bring Pobeda Dam Back!

What would be cool if they do bring it back would be to add a hydroelectric power plant to it that you can actually switch on and light up the street lights. Would just require a small concrete structure added to the old one with a few rooms and electrical panels.
  10. Correct answer and you have my beans :)

    Strange Sound in 0.46?

It is said that when some of the population of Chernarus tried to escape the zombie infection using small fishing boats they were relentlessly shot at by navy ships and sunk. I hope they introduce fog soon to this game, it would make it 10 times more scary.

Will DayZ SA ever allow modding?

I can't wait to see what the modding community comes up with when the game is released! New maps, like Taviana, Panthera, Namalsk, Lingor, Altis, Stratis... New gear and building objects. Some of you will now start to complain about high powered weapons, high end gear and vehicles, but remember that you do not have to press that server " join" button. If I am feeling vanilla and survivalist I'll join one of my favorite vanilla servers, if you feel like playing death match, then you can join one of the modded to kill servers. Imagine someone adding Altis Life mods to this and going full RP! This is totally in the tradition of BI and one of the reasons I bought into the game even in alpha stage. To watch it grow, be part of the community in the alpha stage and to see it being developed into 100's of modded variations. This is not H1Z1 or WarZ were you get One game that only the developers can change, this will be the most awesome experience in the survival gaming genre ever!

need help making a Computer for DayZ Mod

Sure you can, but not a new one, or at least most of the parts would have to be second hand. Second hand doesn't mean they are bad, because there are lots of spoiled kids that have rich parents who constantly beg for the latest products. Then there are people like me, I just bought a new PC and my old one that can run Dayz SA on low settings I'll be selling for approx. 150,- pounds. Just to give you an idea what 150 Pounds will easily get you: Acer Aspire M3641 Description Intel Core 2 Quad 66004GB PC2-6400 DDR2 Memory2 X 300GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive16x DVD+/-RW Dual Layer BurnerNVIDIA GeForce 7150 Integrated Graphics Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 5770Gigabit EthernetEight USB 2.0, FireWire, 15-in-1 Card ReaderVista Home Premium 64-bit, Windows 7 installedIncl. Hawks as companion animals

I like the idea of having a companion hawk, but some of the suggestions thereafter don't make much sense. Hawks should be able to retrieve small game such as rabbits and birds (chickens) and additionally hunt them on their own. They could also be trained to warn you when there are other humans around, but the best you can hope for to train it to do, would be to circle above the threat and give out a warning cry.

Being able to tuck pistols in pants?

    You haz my beans :)
  16. Being able to interact with objects. Example would be to look at a chair and select 'sit', or look at a bed and select 'sleep'. Both above examples could help regain health quicker. Being able to move objects, such as chairs and other household objects so you can block off entrances (making it more difficult for someone to enter). The object would appear in your hands in a double handed animation that you then can move around and place somewhere else. This could also come in handy when we later create camps and bases, being able to arrange objects and furniture.

The heck did I just see at NWAF?

Thank you for posting this one, wow brings back memories, but I can tell you back in the day this song was so annoying as it was in the top of the charts for months if not years and being played everywhere. ;)

Dean Hall on Vehicles and Barricading

I'm pretty good at flying helicopters in ARMA and it was one of the reasons I bought the game, but I can't recall how many choppers I have crashed, because it was so many. Just saying, having to spend days hopping servers to fixing up a helicopter that you might crash in the blink of an eye, or get sniped out of is just not worth the effort. :( I personally would like to see something like 3 helicopters per server that respawn after they are destroyed and the parts to fix them common in industrial sites at the airfields. Personally I find it very misleading to maybe later advertise a game with Helicopters that are next to unobtainable to the average player. Maybe it will need a new red warning message before buying the game. ;)

DayZ Standalone - New MP5-K With Attachments (Showcase)

For a BUIS to work you would need both the rear and front sights. This only works for the M4 as it is aligned with its front barrel mounted sight. So yeah maybe in the future they will introduce a front sight that needs to be attached to the front part of the rail, or don't use the BUIS. Can you attach the pistol red dot sight?

    Interacting with and moving Objects

You my friend can be a Zombie Tamer and have your own circus act!

    Small Chernarus

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but the limitations of the map size and amount of objects/polygons and avatars it can store is limited by the servers not the game. The game is being optimized with new bubble technology to only relay the most important information from your vicinity (I think it was around 500 meters) the rest is what the servers can handle and on your client side what rendering distance you can handle. You can increase the map size, but the polygons the server can handle is limited, unless you choose to lower the levels of details (we all love the details).

    Interacting with and moving Objects

I was thinking you could just pick up a chair as an example and carry it anywhere on the map. It could also be a wooden pallet, or an oil drum and yes being able to wedge it against a door, or pile objects against a door. I am not saying you should be able to move everything, just specific objects you would expect to be able to move in real life. Another example would be a car wheel you can carry in your hands, or a tool box, medical bag in one hand.
  24. TiggyPooh

    Small Chernarus

All comes down to handshakes and how they are handled, an example of server crossings: This is the Bell 407 Jetranger helicopter I finished scripting last month and when the map screen changes on the cockpit display that is when it is crossing from one server to the next. You see the first handshake and server switch at around 1:25 I'll just mention that Vincent who made this video seems to have the rendering distance set very low, so some of the surrounding objects are taking longer to load, but with the setting higher and enough memory you can have those objects render much sooner and get better results.

    Small Chernarus

The technology to go from one map to the next already exists in other games and if optimized wont be more than the blink of an eye when you switch from one server to the next after reaching the end of a map.
