Question regarding reloading system
stinkenheim replied to emanueljuandavid's topic in General Discussion
Dayz will switch magazines out, so you have one in your weapon with 10 rounds and press 'reload' it will swap a mag from your inventory with the one in your weapon. Alternatively if it is a weapon without a removable magazine then you by reloading it will top up the rounds until the gun reaches capacity. -
Yeah but 'the only gift they'll get this year is life' is far catchier than the more accurate 'the only gift they'll get this year is a cure for the infection that is destroying their higher brain functions and turning them into unthinking, rage fueled creatures.' Also, it's very hard to make that fit the tune of the song... I'm not a musical genius like Westlife or Jedward but I don't see how it can be done...

DayZ staff/devs/Bohemia show their love.
stinkenheim replied to ☣BioHaze☣'s topic in General Discussion
Yes it is PR, that much is obvious to anyone with half a brain. They are praising and thanking their customers for the continued support of the project which generates goodwill with their customers and paints BI in a good light. They don't need to do it, it's a nice gesture to show their appreciation. Dismissing it as 'just PR talk' is unnecessary and goes to prove that for parts of the community BI can do nothing right. Give them credit where it's due, recent status reports, q+a's and now this show that they do value community input which when the game is suffering from a low period (.55 until .58 IMO) is a good way of garnering positive reactions. Well done BI, thank you for acknowledging the effort some in the community put into bug testing, experimenting and reporting issues that will lead to a better game for all. -
For me it's slightly better but only marginally so. It's a long way from 50 fps in Cherno IMO and to expect that performance from a mid development game with next to no optimisation is being massively unrealistic. I average about 30fps with most graphic settings on high/very high so depending on your rig and the settings you are happy to play with their is certainly room to manoeuvre, additionally using the new ui will help to boost frames (I'd heard it was linked to the GPU you have- better the GPU better the frame increase with new ui).

Is Anybody Out There (Specifically The Undead)
stinkenheim replied to kylefinlayson1997's topic in General Discussion
There are large numbers of zeds in but I'm unsure if they are respawning without a server restart so it may be that they have been cleared out of the towns you visited prior to your arrival. Zeds are also mainly spawning in major cities too so it is possible that the smaller towns on your journey simply didn't have any set to spawn in them. -
insert standard *not zombies but infected people so death still means death.*
-
There hasn't been a flashlight on spawn for a while now (can't remember if it changed .57 or .58). With the way nighttime is it's unlikely you'll ever need to use it anyway. At least a glsit can light a fire

Write! In! Proper! Sentences! So! People! Can! Understand! You! Seriously dude, use your words like a grown up and explain what the problem is rather than just typing five words with little to no context and expecting to get a reasoned and thoughtful response.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
stinkenheim replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Ah no worries dude, the patch has just come out and it was manic last night with people trying to get into most of the servers I usually play on so it's likely the main towns had seen so much footfall that the zeds had been beaten to death by multiple bambis. I know after 20 minutes I was geared up with a Winchester, hunting scope, 80 rounds and an m65 jacket (along with food, side arms, morphine etc.) because it was all fresh loot. Give it a dayor two to settle down and then see if there is still a zed issue. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
stinkenheim replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Zombies are in in the current stable patch, don't know if they are respawning without a server reset though. Highest concentration of them are in main towns (Cherno, Elektro, Berizinho, Zelenogorsk, Novo, Stary/Novy Sobor etc.) although I did meet a handful in Polana last night. They wander around and are aggroed in numbers by gunshots so it is possible that people in main towns drew the majority to them and either a) killed them or b ) led them away from the city. Perhaps instead of criticising and complaining you should ensure that you have all the facts available to allow you to construct a well reasoned and justified assessment of the situation. Zombies were initially removed due to the major negative impact they had on server/client performance. This has been looked into and partly altered, they have also had the way they spawn changed. Rather than having zombies spawn when a player was in an area (Dayz Mod) the SA populated the entire map with a given number of zeds, this meant that although the amount was higher than the mod they were more spread out. If all the players were in Cherno/Elektro for example then there were hundreds of idle zeds in the remainder of the map. The devs have since begun changing this to ensure that players encounter a higher number of zeds in key towns by limiting and removing the spawning of them in less visited areas. The plan is that zombies will soon be spawning in populated regions on a dynamic basis- if cherno and elektro are the populous region on server a then the majority of that servers zeds will spawn in that region. Would you prefer this to be done differently? If so then how? Can you suggest a different method to the zombie issue than that proposed by the devs? -
Another Hive Wipe for 0.59...? If so why?
stinkenheim replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
to answer the original post, the hive will be wiped due to duping/loot cycling/hacked weapons that have completely destroyed the loot economy within the game. They will likely continue with wipes as they tweak loot spawn/item count etc throughout development. -
First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
stinkenheim replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How many times must this be said; Official servers DOES NOT mean every public server. People need to stop complaining about a change that will have very minimal impact on the way they currently play and more importantly stop with the overly pretentious, ego fluffing debate as to why you play whichever mode you play. In short, 3pp is going nowhere. A handful of public servers MAY become 1pp but currently that is just a thought and not a plan. -

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
stinkenheim replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That is entirely wrong. Hicks said he wanted the 'official' servers to be 1pp only. In short, the 4 or 5 servers that the server providers are required to maintain will be 1pp only with any other public shard server rented by individuals being either 1pp or 3pp as the owner wishes. His idea would at most mean about 20 extra 1pp servers available not limiting 3pp to private shards. Lack of comprehension, adequate research or awareness is one of the big issues faced by this community, too many people get their panties in a twist because they have misunderstood what was said (either through poor wording by devs or through their own misconception). Go back to the original tweet by Hicks and you will see he mentions 'official' servers and not 'all public', it suddenly becomes a non-issue. -
A vision of what DayZ 1.0 could look like
stinkenheim replied to Statsmakten's topic in General Discussion
i like it, minimal and effective. Very nice work dude -
Regarding the zeds, that has always been the case. I know Brian spoke about it on a stream months ago, the AI currently don't differentiate between silenced and unsilenced weapons and will aggro the same. You can also aggro them whilst shooting a bow and arrow (not sure if to the same extent or not), it's one of the many things in this game that is subject to change and likely awaiting other modules of the engine to be rewritten or introduced.
-
There will always be issues with zeds giving away player proximity. In previous patches zeds would only start moving if a player was within 500m of them so if you scoped into a town and saw stationary zeds it was clear, if they started moving it was because someone had come in, you could even follow the direction of the layers by the way the zeds activated. I know that from the rocks in Novo you can see Cernaya Polana as well so you could use the zeds in both towns to nail down positions of players quite accurately. I don't think there will ever be a way around this, having vast numbers of zeds spawned in all the time will kill performance and likewise having zeds constantly moving even when no one is around will kill performance. Sometimes compromises have to be made.

Vehicles have not been removed. The v3s (normal and cargo variant) is in game and has been for a while and the current exp patch features 2 new cars. The reason you don't see them all over the place is twofold; they require parts to get running and they are often stashed by players to allow them to quickly return to camps/locations.
-
They are talking about increasing the environment object count (not loot), I know on the whole they mean trees/bushes etc. but it could also include rubbish and such like. Look at the new Berezinho, much dirtier than the old one.
-
It would be nice if pressing F3 near them meant you sat on them rather than the floor. Unlikely to happen though.

I imagine people writing things like 'i shot him in the face for beans and tea bagged him whilst mocking his now lifeless corpse. Get rekt noob' I like the idea (not of writing that sort of thing).

Was in a gunfight at the nwaf on Friday, the guy took 3 shots from my blaze and fell unconscious my friend went over to finish him whilst I scanned the area. He shot him twice in the head with a shotgun and the guy still didn't die so yeah, shotguns aren't the greatest atm.
-
You never forget your first time. Mine was in krasnostav, the blaze had just been introduced and I had picked it up. Was looting the town and saw a hunters backpack in a house, went to pick it up and a bullet whiz zed past me. I ran but instead of running out the house ran up the stairs to a small landing and waited. It felt like hours but the guy eventually ran into the building, picked up the bag and ran past the bottom of my stairs; I ran down and shot him in the back of the head as he ran across the street. That was about 100 hrs into the game, since then I've logged another 600+ hrs but I never leave a firefight without my heart racing or my hands shaking a little. It's why I love this game.

Fair enough, makes private servers seem almost completely pointless if they can't enforce rules or promote different playstyles then. If what you say is true then they are effectively the same as public just without as much server hopping/ghosting (some privates share hives so it's still possible on a few).
