I am Patrick, commonly known as Assault on the forums. I am very passionate about technology and the idea of any sort of apocalyptic scenario. That about sums it up. I also have a huge love of chicken fingers.

Help with keeping my cool when meeting players?
Assault (DayZ) replied to JJ_'s topic in General Discussion
Anything but KOS. -
At one point in time I felt the urge to turn. I had been killed via KOS on a fully gear character that I had provoked many acts of kindness on and had developed a reputation for goodness on. Upon respawning, I found a pistol and drew blood the first chance I could. I took that persons gear and shot down a duo, this all occured in a 4 hour period. The next day, I felt like a total douche and made it my goal to be against KOS for the rest of my time playing this game.

I would much rather have backpacks more spread out than abundant in one location like in the mod.

Running speed after being hit needs to be reduced.
Assault (DayZ) replied to maleficum's topic in Suggestions
I feel like it should depend on where you get hit. If you get hit in the leg, it should greatly reduce to a very slow limp. If you get hit in the arm, you should have to grab the injured arm and not be able to shoot/be reduced to a gait. -
Yah, I've encountered these. Back in the mod, I liked to play it low in the forest. I had my AS50 and gillie suite, and was scouting out players in the city that might pose a threat if they entered the forest I was in. Anyways, through my scopes I spot a group of survivors, 3 strong and all in obviously fresh spawn gear. One was carrying a shiny fireaxe, his buddy weilding a revolver, and the other left with his fists. They seemed to be minding their own business, stopping in different buildings and grabbing assorted loot. I was watching them progress in loot as they combed the city, and they even encountered a complete fresh spawn and gave him some things. And then, 5 minutes after that, a barrage of gunshots sprayed from countless windows, and in 30 seconds, all that remained of the trio was a bunch of bloodstains and newly slayed bodies. I watched in anger as 6-7 bandits filtered out of the buildings, doing a 10 second knit-pick over the fallen survivors loot, seeming to only take a few small trinkets before filing off into a different part of the city. If I wasn't wanting to keep a low profile, I would have killed half of them with my AS50, but in my mind it wasn't even worth it, like it isn't worth smashing a cockroach, for it would just dirty your shoes. I lost a lot of hope that day in DayZ.

The 'no weapons/friendly' experiment (surprising results)

These guys have somehow managed, by some unknown sorcery called friendship, managed to make a few people more kind in DayZ. Fascinating... -
DayZ Fortification of Pre-Existing Buildings So what the title says. I feel that instead of adding construction of individual buildings, the dev team, later on, could implement the ability to fortifiy pre-existing buildings. Of course, there are many pros/cons to this. Here is a chart of both Pros -Adds some sort of construction feeling to DayZ. -Eliminates the spamming of tons of random structures all over the map. -Creates another objective for gameplay -Allows for players to create bases for storage, HQ, etc Cons -Interference with loot spawning and roaming. -Could reduce amount of free buildings to explore (kind of co-exists with con 1) I feel that if there was a way to balance out loot spawn with amount of buildings people could fortify, this concept could really strike home. Now for those of you who for some reason don't know what I mean by fortifying buildings, this is what I mean: -Boarding up windows -Covering entrances -Building small barricades around the perimeter of the building -Possibly creating sandbag sniper outposts on roofs -Etc. I really want more opinions on pro/con aspects of this whole suggestion and more ideas for fortifications. Also, I am new here. My name is Assault. I know this is not the place for an introduction, so everything is in my bio. Hit me with a friend request if you want to talk.

I am Assault. I have always loved DayZ and have bared playing the Mod on low-settings and 10 FPS with my god-awful computer. Now that DayZ SA was released, I tossed in some money and got myself a nice computer so I can emerse myself more in the game. So yeah, hallo peoples!

I feel that having a HUD kind of degenerates realism. If you where a real survivor, and you got clipped by a bullet, you would not instantly be able to determine how much blood you have left and then, in terms, be able to get a rough estimate of your time left to live. You would be able to examine wounds and estimate what is going to happen, and the game does a good job of sustaining this realism. I think any sort of HUD would in the long run negatively effect the realism-oriented atmosphere of the game.

I feel like this basically sums it up. DayZ has succeeded in its ability to have the controler really control their virtual survivor. Thats why people love DayZ. It is fully immersing without in-game skills, storyline, or inserts like panic, as you suggested.
