DayZ's Biggest problem at this moment (27/12/2013) (Excluding Bugs)
meta87 replied to FBI's topic in General Discussion
I thing the biggest problem with DayZ currently is that there are too many military spawns on the spawn coast, so players camp the coast and just deathmatch at Balota/Cherno and never move north... I go to servers with 40 players and run around the north without seeing anyone, in the mod, this is unheard of! -
In some articles around various websites, I find that some of these websites show some concept art (or what looks like concept art) for DayZ and I was wondering if the DayZ developers are going to be or would be willing to release a gallery of the concept art for DayZ SA, as I really enjoy seeing these works. Would anyone else like the dev's to release a gallery of the concept art that has been done for DayZ thus far? I would like to hear what everyone else thinks!

A lot of these screens look like they have been altered in photoshop? What settings are you using in game, and are there any changed made to the images with photoshop (1, 11, 15, 18, 23)?

Tips on Surviving in Standalone?
meta87 replied to The Aquatic Land Walrus's topic in New Player Discussion
Stay away from eating rotten food, don't drink from ponds and avoid ladders like the plague! Get off the coast ASAP for better quality of life. -
Server issues: server hopping, disconnecting while bleeding and people spawning behind me at the AF.
meta87 replied to james222's topic in General Discussion
If you think zombies glitching through buildings is more important than ghosters and combat loggers, you are sadly mistaken. Zombies clipping through walls is not a game breaking issue, players server hopping, combat logging (even after dead) and many other things are far more game breaking, and ruin the experience of the game. -
DayZ: SA - Do you want more large groupplay or more smallgrpplayvids?
meta87 replied to norreka's topic in Gallery
Large groups are funny to watch, because they are always so chaotic and unorganized in everything they do and often end in friendly fire or mass deaths. The down side to having big groups is 1/2 the server is in your group (until server slot limit is increased). I like small teams of 4-6, as long as everyone is aware of their bearings (N/E/S/W, and where they are located at all times). -
Typically I find that when you get Yellow Chain, the server is about to reboot (not always, but most of the time). When you get Red Chain, it indicates that there is desync (usually happens when new players connect to the server). By the time you see the chain, the desync has already happened... In general it can be understood as a measure of how 'out of step' clients are with the server. Ex, if a client is slowed down to the point where its engine is running at a different rate to the servers, there will be desync.Desync can be explained simply as an extreme form of lag where you are not receiving the servers and clients information correctly.Placed objects and ai can also contribute to this, as well as an influx in connecting players.

Adding weapons and attachments is a fairly simple process tho. Considering the game is essentially arma2 without all the excess crap. I bet if we had access to the server side, I could take many weapons packs from ArmA2 and include the .pbo's in the DayZ SA addons folder and add them to the loot tables and they would spawn in the game just fine. The most time consuming portion of adding new items is attachments, and making sure said attachments line up properly on the weapon system its self. Which im sure those who are involved with that process are not involved as much with the types of fixes you are referring to. PS: you can take the files for the stand alone and put them into a folder in your ArmA3 and launch it as an addon (after removing some files related to UI, etc). This allows you to play cherno+ on arma3 and build missions with it so you can fly around to check out the map and see whats new.

I think just adding more items and variations of items will #1 make certain items rarer (the more items in the pool, the lower the chances of finding what your looking for), and will make the game more enjoyable in terms of content available / things to do. My character currently has nothing to do, as I have a m4 with every attachment, 6x coupled mags, full cammo *top and bottom*, jungle boots, hunter backpack *preferred for color*, and a UK vest *khaki I believe* (all pristine), with plenty of food/water. Now I just explore the map. If there were more items, I would have more to do/loot.

If you pass out the only way to wake up is to have someone blood bag you, or give you saline bag. Otherwise you have to respawn anyways... If you pass out, wait in game for a friend, or log off and be killed. Not that big of a deal.

When will we get an update that fixes the players body from disappearing as soon as they die due to instantly disconnecting?

Why is my character moaning? not hurt, only thursty. What gives?

I believe the bandages found in med kits are already doused with disinfectant or according to the tool tip it has something on it, and is not just a plain rag. -
At the Balota Airfield, there are 3-4 barracks at the western end of the air strip, and the old cap off the road near there (used to have 4 deer stands), now also has military tents.
-
Next patch, can you make silencers work properly? Thanks!

Passed out? One additional way to wake up from being unconscious is to have a friend use a saline kit on you, this will wake you from your eternal slumber (must be in hand to use on friendly player). Note: If you have been passed out for a long time and have been in game during this time, expect to be EXTREMELY thirsty and hungry. Better have a lot of food/drink to consume to get you back to where you are safe again. Best foods? Foods that have multiple uses are by far the best foods to carry with you, preferably those that do not rot or go bad easily (canned goods, cereal, etc) and take little bag space. The following are the top 4 foods in my opinion: Powdered Milk (takes one space and can be consumed 10 times, this applies to hunger, not thirst). Any Canned Foods (take one space and have 5 uses, require can opener or knife to use) Rice (takes 2 slots and can be consumed several times). Cereal (takes 4 slots and can be consumed several times).

My heart definitely gets going when I see players in the area with weapons (I am currently very well geared for the Alpha). I do not have this reaction to players in the DayZ Mod at all. I believe this is due to the fact that it is fairly hard to survive the coast and get away from it due to the stamina/food/drink/unconscious issues. I had to literally walk all the way from elektro, to cherno, then to stary, then to NWAF and beyond. Only jogging when crossing large openings in areas I felt there could be other players. Looking forward to seeing more patches, hopefully they roll out frequently!
-
Instead of running to the NWAF, try walking the entire way. Be sure to take frequent breaks even while walking (if you start to notice that the stars are moving when standing still, or that buildings look like jello, you need to use the sit button and rest (while your doing this, have a drink and a bit to eat to help). I have been alive for some time and have traveled a large distance (have only lost 1 character so far, and that's cause a friend killed me while testing stuff). I feel like the longer your character is alive, the less food/water you need to survive (maybe I am wrong, but i don't get messages about being tired, and don't have to eat/drink nearly as much now).

It is hard to leave the cost when there is no food/water to use to stay alive when moving away from the coast. It feels like every 30 seconds you have to eat and drink to keep from passing out, even when simply walking. I don't mind the rate of which food spawns, just the rate of which they expect you to eat and drink... Its unrealistic in every way shape and form. If I ate half as much in real life I would weigh 400 lbs.
