I have gone through five or so well geared characters now. The moral of the story; you can always gear up again. By the sound of thing I think I might be somewhere in your area at the moment. I just find myself exploring the smaller towns and largely just observing the bigger cities. Seeing another player is a rush as you don't know what to expect. That's the point if the game so just plan out your travels and do it. Who cares if you die. One suggestion, ditch about 50% of your ammo and carry more food/drink. You can't get hungry from not having enough bullets, but nerding to eat can force you to explore an area you might not be 100% comfortable with. If you don't look for PvP then all you need is defensive weapons and ammo. At the moment you look ready to storm the beach at Normandy...

Said like someone who has no idea about programming. Just because you keep saying it, doesn't mean it becomes right. The most likely outcome of your 'easy fix' would be the game failing to work as there is code missing. I mean, I guess that's sort of silencing the gun...

Seems you've still missed the point. The sound itself is but an effect for players. The code that controls who hears it and how it affects zombies, animals etc and all it affects is the complex bit. Sure, in terms of playing sounds, that could be easy enough. One sound effect for regular, one for silenced. The issue being a player that would have heard your regular shot will be able to hear your silenced shot all the same, since the code controlling who can hear it is the same. Same goes for zombies. In effect, you could achieve the same gameplay outcome just turning down your volume when you shoot, as everyone will still hear it and come looking for a kill or snack. Just because the result from a player effect seems simple, doesn't mean it is from a big picture perspective. The only silencer that is currently effective is the fire axe. That or avoiding combat and being stealthy.

I really don't understand why people struggle with finding weapons or mags. After my last re spawn it have played 3-4 hours. I have a myosin, m4, magnum and .45. All with ammo and mags.

Someone could have dropped a grenade in the barracks. Though, unlikely.

You can get out off that. When loading in just run while the 'please wait' screen is up. The character loads before the landscape. I have gotten out of walls a few times doing this.

Today's efforts: Decided to head off on my mission towards Zelenogorsk via the little nameless town North of Komarova. Got to the little town alright, but mush have been spun around as I too literally a 90degree deroute West and ended up in the Military base. At first I was like 'WTF, did they create a new military base?', but soon realised my orientating skills are not as good as I thought. Anyway, decided that since I was there, I would check out the barracks for any loot and dispensed a few zombies. As I was leading a barrack and about to head to the hospital shock! Heart started pounding and adrenaline kicked in. ANOTHER PLAYER! Medium kitted and he saw me the moment I saw him, he was about 150m in front of me. Advantage to me as I had my M4 in hand while he had what looked like a mosin still on his back. I did the rookie move of yelling out 'Friendly!' to which his response was to run away into the hospital yelling 'Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, oh god oh god!' I tried to spark a conversation but he just did not want to be there. I offered him ammo, meds or food but I couldn't make out what he said in response. All I say was him running into a wall in the hospital. I called out wishing him a safe journey and told him I was going to vacate the base and keep moving. Now I am just to the East of the base, planning on eventually getting to Zelenogorsk. Tell you what, there is no other game that causes just a made rush when I see another player. And given my last few encounters with other players usually end in death I decided that I was going to play KoS from then on. But I just cannot bring myself to do it! In related news, is there an actual sections where people are able to keep like an adventure diary? Or Should I just start my own lame thread in the general section?

All I get every time I try a server is 'waiting for server'... :(

Six Upcoming Developments That Will Change DayZ for the Better - Loot Rarity (wait, whaat?)
Jesterarts replied to darkgritty's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, a limited number of items across ALL servers is a worry as it does literally promote server hopping and breaks down the immersiveness of the game. Limiting the objects on the server and only replacing it once it's destroyed seems a bit better. Then people will be more likely to stick to a server as the items won't carry across, but there is the issue of someone joining a server, finding all the high end items and then deciding they are done with the game. Maybe a system where is a player is holding items on a server and they are inactive for a period of time, the items start to lose condition and eventually are ruined and respawn. Quite a complex issue once you scratch below the surface. -
Serious? I close doors while I am inside a building but on my way out I just want to get out of there. Maybe I've been doing it all wrong.

I found 2 M4's at a heli crash just West of Balota(sp?). The magazine's and ammo are quite rare. I also went through the Military base that is in the far West. Didn't find any weapons or military gear. All barracks doors were closed so no it hadn't been looted. Unless the loiter had serious OCD.
-
LOL! See, this is exactly why I stay away from people. I am not chillin effectively as West as I could get. The towns on the very West edge of the map are pretty baron of supplies/goodies. I am sitting on the hill overlooking Kamarovo planning my next trek. Thinking Zelenogorsk.

Did spawns move further north again?
Jesterarts replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
I usually spawn near a little town North West of Benzino. Inland from the factory thing on the coast. And I immediately head further West through Polona(?) and towards the area between NWAF and SWAF. Currently on a mission to the town furthest West on the map and then North towards them military base. I find I dont run into many players in that route. If I go North however, I find heaps of people. -
Developers Incapable of Prioritizing Properly
Jesterarts replied to sw1442's topic in General Discussion
You class 'remove pants and boots' as a valid opinion? Pretty sure that opinion is the prequel to naked rants on public transport. And an opinion cannot be valid if it has no basis, so until the op is able to provide an indication of what he is basing his opinion on, it is intact invalid. -
I used a cross bow the other day. Pretty useless at the moment since you can't retrieve the bolts. The great thing was the silent kills. Used it on 6 zeds and the kills didn't attract the attention of other sees or players. The only bolt I was able to retrieve was I one I shot into a wall/doorframe. It will be a great weapon for survival style players once you can retrieve the bolt. I would imagine that with every use the bolt would deteriorate, but great for hunting and zed protection. Pretty useless PvP unless you have the jump in them and it's just a lone player. I like the concept, but for not it's irrelevant as we go through this DayZ deathmatch stage of development.

Developers Incapable of Prioritizing Properly
Jesterarts replied to sw1442's topic in General Discussion
Out of sheer curiosity, given you have labelled the dev team incompetent and suggested they don't know, what software dev experience/qualification do you have to pass this judgement? As at the moment, I'm just picturing an angry little nerd who still lives in a basement. And, you mentioned that the game is ruined by the audio issues. It cannot be ruined since it's not yet finished. That's like saying a car is ruined by bad handling during testing to set up the suspension. Anyway, interested to know what wealth of experience you have in the software dev/game dev industry to pass these judgements. Regards, -
Found 2 Heli Crash sites at once. Anyone found 3?
Jesterarts replied to Shockpuppet's topic in General Discussion
Most I have seen in close proximity was two. One in NEAF and one just outside the fence. Can't wait until the implement that fix that the smoke is visible form further away. This would make it feasible to climb a big hill and scout the landscape for smoke. -
I had the same thing happen at the NEAF, I was going prone in the tower and died.

Hey all, Just wondering if there is an easy way to find the TS for a server you are playing on? The reason I ask, is yesterday I was killed solely because I wasn't on the TS for that server. Basically I was at the Military base South of NWAF and was cornered in the last room. The guys attacked me and I closed the door and waited. There was a guy outside the window and he said I have two options: 1. Get on TS and act friendly. though I suspect this was BS given their first action was to start shooting at me while my back was turned. Only reason I was having the conversation was they were terrible shots. 2. Die as they rushed the room. I went with "DIE" mostly because to get onto TS I would have had to ALT-TAB out of the game, leaving my character vulnerable to being killed anyway. Anyway, this did get me thinking about how to work out what the TS for any server is. I have a habit of trying to join the last server I played, and if that doesn't work, joining the next random one without taking much notice. Is there a way to work this out in-game? Thanks in advance. Cheers,

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
Jesterarts replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
If you could identify bandits then it would take away a HUGE component of the game. There is no other game I know of that just walking down a street with someone you met can be so suspenseful. "Are they really friendly?", "Are they leading me into an ambush?", "Will I cope a bullet to the back if I go point entering this house?" These are all questions that would not be as intense if you knew who was good and bad. At the moment, I get a shot of adrenaline every time I see another player, even in the distance. And in close quarters it's intense as, weapons raised and uncertain what will happen. That's the appeal of the game. If you stumbled across another player and saw they were a hero, it would completely take the edge off the player to player interactions in this game. I mean, if all you want is to run around and know who is on your 'team' and who is not, then COB and BF4 have little markers to tell you. -
Are people still only at NE and Berizino?
Jesterarts replied to ramsfan00's topic in General Discussion
Just jumped on for a few minutes and did some looting at the SWAF. Server reset occured while I was playing so logged back in and found some goodies. I saw one guy looking the barracks at the far west of the Airfield. The only reason I noticed him is a couple zombies where charging his way. Couldn't tell if he was armed or not so I left him and the zombies to sort themselves out. Good chicken to go say hello and help since I JUST found a mosin. Next stop, military base in the West where I died last time. So must be some players in the West. -

Jesterarts replied to ramsfan00's topic in General Discussion
Lol. Actually there have been exactly zero countermeasures planned to stop it. There are a few to stop ghosting. But none to stop people changing servers. -

In answer to this thread, I usually head West as soon as I spawn. In the past I managed to get all the way to NWAF and spent two days gathering gear, then headed out SW without encountering a soul. Then something glitches and my character wiped. Classic DayZ. In regards to server hopping, I don't see the big deal. It's a part if the game just the same as KoS. I don't server hop as such, though each time I play I pick a server at random, usually the lower populated so I get a chance to explore the map. But once on a server I will stick with it for that session of play unless it boots me out or there are serious tech issues. Given that, I would hate to think someone targetted me only because I spawned in a favorable area. Kill me because you were going to KoS not just because you think I am a hopper. Or atleast don't try to justify your KoS with a greater cause. -
So, would yo guys say that being on TS increases or decreases chances of having a BAD time? :) Do people act more friendly as you've had a while to chat with them before running into them, or do people generally use it to set up ambushes and lure people in?
