Ok. I'm in Gorka at the moment. Moving westward. Hope to see some ammo soon. Thanks, DefectiveWater.

Good? Okay. Kind of a vague response, but nothing new for the internet. I have to say, I finally had a PVP experience that didn't involve zombies yesterday. It was quite satisfying.

One of the updates in 1.14 for console is rather confusing: "Two-handed and non-piercing weapons are no longer suitable for stealth attacks." What does this even mean? Sledgehammers and baseball bats don't work anymore if you use them from behind? Or they are less effective? There should be a better word than "Suitable" to convey the actual meaning of this change. Any ideas what this refers to?

If it weren't for the original experience that DayZ offers compared to other survival games, I would have dropped this game a long time ago. From the STILL broken melee to laggy servers and zombies still teleporting all over the screen, DayZ is still one of the most poorly developed games I've ever played. Years have passed and zombies are still a pain in the ass, When the game gets frustrating and annoying - which happens quite often lately - I just let the Zeds knock me out and I restart as a fresh spawn. I actually don't mind starting as a Freshie. It is one of the better aspects of DayZ that I find enjoyable. Either way, I just wish they'd fix the melee in this game. It is horrible and unreliable.

Here is a screen shot taken a few minutes ago. I'm a fresh spawn, maybe 5 minutes old. And my water and food are already YELLOW. A couple minutes after this, my food was RED and my stomach was growling like mad. It's crap like this that makes DayZ frustrating to play. This was my 4th character in a row where I was yellow or starving within a few minutes after spawning. This is so far removed from reality and doesn't belong in a video game. Yea, it's a survival game. But, this goes beyond ridiculous.
-
You would make a horrible game developer if your idea is to start off fresh spawns with nothing. Imagine if you had to fight a zombie. Especially now. You will most likely find yourself bleeding. Without a rag or bandages, you would bleed out and die. Given the fact that it's almost impossible to find anything sharp in DayZ within the first hour or two, you're not likely able to cut rags from any shirts you'd find. Make your own survival game where players start out with nothing. No one will play it. Ever. You should think your ideas through.

Did I say, "I. wasn't sprinting"? No, I didn't. So, don't put words in my mouth.

That's crazy, You spawn miles away from any location with the slightest bit of loot. I've been playing DayZ for years. It was never like this until recently. If I jogged everywhere it would take me hours to get to the nearest town. And I've played this game enough to know that even jogging I lose food and drink levels pretty fast. This doesn't happen on every server. Although today, it did seem to be the case on every server I jumped on.

I've lost track of how many times I swing my melee at a zombie and it passes through their body without registering a hit. Yesterday, I counted SEVEN times in a row when my bat passed through a zombie. Of course, I ended up dying because I was knocked out and beaten to death by the zombie I was TRYING to fight. This issue with melee is happening too often. I just end up turning off the game. It's ridiculous. P.S. Can we have email notifications when people reply to our posts? I mean, it's 2021, and most forums have this feature.
-
Yes, zombies are part of the game. Except my melee should not pass through the zombie. I attacked one yesterday, and out of 4 swings only 2 actually struck the zombie. The other two passed right through the zombies body. That has been an issue since the Alpha days years ago. I play on console, and tapping "Y" is supposed to initiate a heavy swing. Except that it doesn't work most of the time. They need to make videos of how to play on console. They shouldn't depend on 3rd party YouTube videos to do all the training. It's their game. They need to properly support it if they want more people to play it. Plus, they need to support email notifications for when people reply to your posts. Without it, I have to come back to the website to see if I got any replies. It's a rather archaic system.

I can't tell you how many times I use a heavy swing at a zombie, and my melee weapon just passes right through their bodies as if they're not there. They've made the zombies more deadly, they should make the melee more reliable. I just died because I got robbed of several melee swings that just didn't register. I've been playing DayZ since the Alpha days. And the zombie mechanics have not improved that much. Zombies still teleport through me, and zip past me yet manage to hit me as my melee passes through them with no effect. One step forward. Two steps back. That's the dev cycle of DayZ.

Hearing that wound infections are coming, it makes me wonder how much more difficult will it be to survive in DayZ? How do you treat wounds to avoid infection? Do you have to use pristine rags to avoid wound infections? Will there be new meds to treat wound infections? What current meds can be used to treat or stave off wound infections?

Hopefully, they'll spawn more Tetracycline to help with this new mechanic.

No, I'm not talking about the movie. I'm talking about the fact that it is nearly impossible to find knives or any sharp objects in DayZ. I've walked through entire towns and not found anything sharp. I just got off the game a few minutes ago, and I was able to find canned food. But, without something sharp, it just takes up space in my slots. And, I found a fresh potato. I grabbed it. It was in my hands. And yet, I could not eat it. What??? The good news is, I just got the XBox Series S, next gen console, and I am very happy that the game plays better than it did on my PS4. It loads very fast, and plays pretty smoothly. Although now with this latest update, I am made to bleed by zombies a lot faster than before. Which is fine. But, when you're struggling to find knives or anything that you can create rags or cut up chickens or roosters with, it just becomes frustrating. And not fun. Are there special places to find knives? How do you cut up a chicken or rooster without sharp objects? Seriously. I'm almost kicking myself for buying DayZ for my new console. I'm about to fight for a refund at this point.

Well, I just jumped back in for a minute, and I still couldn't eat my potato. Has something changed with potatoes I should know about? Is it a new bug from the latest patch? Gonna finish my laundry before jumping back in. Cheers.

Yea, I think having even a knife or child's backpack near spawn points would be nice. Something so that you're not totally without choice. I know this is just a game. But, I just can't see in a real apocalyptic situation where you'd be in a major city (i.e. Cherno or Electro) and not find any tools or knives. I think some realism is in order. Thanks everyone for your help. As much as I complain, I still can't find a game as enjoyable and different as DayZ. So, I keep coming back. LOL.

Can I play DayZ on XBox Series S next gen?
vfxtodd replied to vfxtodd's topic in New Player Discussion
Nevermind. I just did a little poke in Google and DayZ is playable on next gen consoles. -
I just picked up the Xbox Series S next gen console. Can I play DayZ on it if I buy the XBox version?

Well, I jumped in after the latest update. Expecting a fresh spawn. No problem. I enjoy starting from scratch. Unfortunately, I'm back to dying in a matter of minutes after my initial spawn. It's ridiculous. I eat whatever my character spawns with. Five minutes later, my "food/apple" icon is bright yellow. I mean.....What??? A minute later, my Health icon is yellow. I've barely gone anywhere. Plus, most times I spawn in the middle of nowhere with no idea of which direction to go. Why does every update break something. Supposed fixes are replaced with broken mechanics and shortened lifespans. What the hell? Do I have to wait for another update? Why does this game get worse over time. I've been playing DayZ since its early days. I'm about to give up. I've never seen a game go through so many inconsistent iterations.

I get sick quickly in current PS4 version. Disappointing state.
vfxtodd posted a topic in General Discussion
I haven't played DayZ in months. Since jumping back in yesterday, I've noticed that my character gets sick rather quickly with little to no eating or drinking. Just now, I killed a rooster and cooked it. Less than a minute later I was sick. It seems that getting sick happens too easily. DayZ is already an intense survival game which is what I expect. But, to get sick so easily just takes the fun out of the game. Yesterday, I died 5 times in less than an hour after spawning fresh. Mostly I spawn in the middle of nowhere, or at least at a location where I don't see any telephone wires or buildings in the distance. A couple times I spawned near Cherno and Electro. But, even then the loot economy is so low that I'm lucky if I don't starve to death first. The last time I played a few months back, DayZ was in a great condition. Now, I get sick too soon with very little effort. And I die rapidly if I don't eat something. So those times I do spawn far away from a town/city, I ultimately die because there's literally nothing to loot. Yesterday, I spent half the time letting zombies kill me because I was already near death and could find nothing to survive on, Today, after dying a couple times, I spawned and found a knife. Killed a zombie with a backpack, and cooked a rooster. That was my best experience since yesterday. I logged off when my character started throwing up from being sick. I just lost interest. It's become a game of how long can I live before I die. I can't even think about finding a weapon much less building any kind of base. I hope this changes. I don't see any point otherwise. Back during the alpha v0.61, there were bugs. But, I could keep my character alive for weeks, and actually be able to carry a weapon or two. Now? I'm losing interest fast. -

Thanks, everyone. My main issue is that I have a hard time finding anything. I got lucky yesterday and have survived. But, that character is sick and near death. So, I'm going to let it die and respawn. I will look for orchards and trees and look for fruit on the ground. I wasn't aware that such food was available. So, thank you immensely for that info. I'm now logged in DayZ and will respawn and implement your advice. Cross your fingers. LOL. -
Can't put chicken on stick. Or place fireplace on ground.
vfxtodd posted a topic in General Discussion
For some reason, I am unable to put a chicken breast on a stick. Or place a fireplace on the ground. Unfortunately, I discovered both (bugs?) at the same time. I found a cabin with a fireplace, where I was able to place a fireplace I crafted. After doing that, and lighting a fire, I proceeded to place a chicken breast onto a stick. To my surprise, I could not do that. Have the mechanics changed? Why am I unable to place a fireplace on the ground? Or add a chicken breast to a stick? Is it a server issue? Any ideas? -

How do you sharpen the stick? I never had to do that before. -
In yet another brilliant turn, I hide my backpack thinking its getting in the way of my crawling under a wall. I realize I still can't crawl under the wall. So, I go back to retrieve my backpack. Lo and behold, the game won't let me grab it. It's hovering right in front of me. But, I can't get it. A few minutes pass, and I realize most of my important gear was in the backpack. My knives, my fireplace, can opener, etc. So, now I have to find something to cut up a chicken. I discover I am way up north, miles from anything resembling a town that may have loot. I punch and kill a chicken and then a rooster. But, I still have nothing to cut them up with. I am yellow health. I decide, screw it, I'm going to switch servers and hope I spawn near another town that might have something for me. I spawn, find a hacksaw, and kill a chicken. Suddenly, I am unable to open my inventory or access my quick bar. I don't know if I can use a hacksaw to cut up a chicken, but it doesn't matter anyway since I can't access it. I eventually find a small military compound, and fight off a couple infected zeds. I am red health, dying of starvation. Screw it. I die. DayZ is so disappointing sometimes. I had this character for a few weeks. I was really enjoying it. Only to die to bugs. Now, I've respawned in the middle of nowhere and my character is freezing to death. Two minutes later, I'm yellow health after just spawning as a freshie. Oh look, a zombie. And I have no weapon, Lovely. UPDATE: I've just respawned outside Electro. I find a hacksaw. And I punch and kill a chicken. I try to open my inventory. No go. Once again, DayZ has failed. This is &#^@& ridiculous. I'm ready to uninstall this game.
