Please, stop building villages everywhere
vfxtodd replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
When there are more choices of vehicles and even a few more houses to duck into that would help. Yes, it's not rural Los Angeles. But it is a game. And games should have things to occupy your attention with. Not just running around for hours with nothing to find or do. Not much to ask for really. -
Please, stop building villages everywhere
vfxtodd replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
There's already miles between towns. It would be quite some time before DayZ got crowded with towns. More towns would be good. So you can set up camp in between towns while traversing the 200+ km that DayZ covers. -
Wow. Dumb ideas galore. Make food MORE rare? Don't sprint everywhere? Do you guys proofread your posts at all? It's an open world game. Over 200 square kilometers. Food supplies are MILES apart. You have to go miles to find anything. The 0.55 patch made supplies as scarce as they should ever be. DayZ is as "real" as it should be. More realism and they'll never sell a single copy. The environment is HUGE. You have to run most of the time. If you don't it will take hours to get anything done. It already takes hours of playing to accomplish anything in DayZ. You want to make harder than 0.55? And who says how much food and supplies would be available? When was the time you lived through a zombie apocalypse? Let the devs do their job. They'll figure out what works best.

So the way I read it was that the devs are going back to 0.54 loot system?
vfxtodd replied to HarryPotter (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I'm not worried about DayZ's development. There are so many ways to play the game, that however it ends up it will probably outlast most other video game series. -
Yea, the spawns need work. I keep spawning on the far eastern shore. Which wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take me hours to run to where the loot is. Alpha, alpha, I know. I'll still be here when DayZ is released in a full version.

Strange...when they supposedly went back to earlier loot system I saw little difference I didn't see loot everywhere as people are claiming. Maybe on the server you were on. But I played for several hours after the "switch" and I had no more success then with 0.55. As Dagwood suggested in another thread, I would like to see the loot spawns move around the map. That way it forces players to always explore new areas. In order for this to work, the spawns would need to move around as well. But as we all know, DayZ is still in alpha. I look forward to more vehicles, weapons, fishing, cooking, shooting and more. I understand the arguments that surface from time to time. We all have play styles that don't always compliment another playstyle. That's part of the gaming experience. Here's to playing more dayz on DayZ.

Good point, Dagwood. I like the idea of loot spawns forcing us to move around the map. The spawns, however, should adjust as well. If the loot spawns in the northern half of the map, and you're spawning on the southern most shores then you're screwed. But, yes, move the loot around the map. That would make the game more fun and challenging. And it would keep the game fresh as it would also support the creation of more towns, locations, etc. -
Player running speed. Dev response appreciated.

Good point, invincible. Until they get the hunting and fishing down - and stable - they should hold off on implementing stamina. Otherwise players will just drop dead more often. -

vfxtodd replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
The map is huge. Whoever said it was small is an idiot. If running slows down - which makes sense - you are more likely going to die in DayZ then you are now given the scarce loot that's planned for DayZ. Loot will have to increase in availability. I know a lot of veteran DayZ players will complain about such an idea but anything less will make the game as unplayable as a survival game could get. Think about it. Right now, I usually spawn, search for food, die of starvation or I'm killed by zombies. Spawn and repeat. Spawn and repeat. Etc. With stamina implemented - again, it makes sense - you will more likely then not have to rest while searching for food. Given the quickness with which people starve in DayZ, chances are more and more people will starve and die. Now with stamina, you are more likely then not to starve even sooner then you do now. Especially since stamina will be affected by - drum roll - your hunger level. Take the current level of scarcity of food in DayZ today, mix in a little sauce of stamina level and wham. Starvation Alley. It only takes a little common sense to see the fallacy of this combination. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. Especially since you can't find any cake for miles. Remember, this is an alpha. Right? Imagine if it were released this way. "Hey, I found this new game, DayZ. It's awesome. You spawn. Run for miles looking for food and maybe weapons. But after the first hundred yards of running you slow down because of stamina. Yea, cool, right?" "While looking for food, you have to fight off killer zombies who can kill you with their BARE HANDS. But you can't fight for too long, cuz your stamina will run low. Somehow you'll have to survive zombie while looking for food and running low on stamina! Fun, eh?" "Food is miles apart. Weapons are harder then hell to find. But those zombies. Man, they are mean. I mean, they can kill you with their bare hands!" "So, what do ya say? Wanna play?" -
What settings should I use to reduce stress on graphics card?
vfxtodd posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Ive realized I don't have the best graphics card. I'd like to play DayZ with graphics as high quality as possible. But I do experience some "lag" due to my graphics card. Will turning off shadows help? What settings should I use to lower stress on my graphics card? -
So the way I read it was that the devs are going back to 0.54 loot system?
vfxtodd replied to HarryPotter (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I played last night and didn't find any more loot then when 0.55 first appeared. Which is fine since I expected as much. But I do think the devs need to fix the zombies hitting you through walls, when you're standing behind them, and when you're several yards away from them. I know it's alpha, but now that the zombies are more active in the game they should work better. -
I've been told that loot now appears in different areas due to latest patch. Can someone give me any ideas where to go? Thanks.
-
I played last night and it appears that 0.55 is still in place. People were saying that with the Wednesday maintenance they were going to revert to the previous loot system. Nope I don't think so. I died from starvation when I started playing as soon as I spawned in. Fresh spawned , found some canned goods and a damaged splitting axe. But eventually got killed after the third zombie hit me. For an update this patch was too extreme. Before 0.55 I'd spend hours trying to gear up. DayZ is a large open world environment. It takes hours to get around it. The drop in loot should have been spread over two or three updates. I'm gonna stick it out because it is in alpha. But I think it needs more balance.

So the way I read it was that the devs are going back to 0.54 loot system?
vfxtodd replied to HarryPotter (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
At first I was taken aback by 0.55's loot system. But I was willing to adapt. I just want them to fix the zombies so they can't hit me when I'm standing behind them. I must admit though, I stumbled across a way to fight zombies that seems coincidental but may not be. Whenever I found myself butted up against a zombie, where my character is physically touching the zombie face to face, the zombie stopped hitting me and just started walking forward. As the zombie walked into me, it would start pushing me back. And I would start punching the zombie until it dropped. So far it's worked every time I was in that situation. I might try it again tonight after work. See what happens. Maybe I was just lucky. -
I agree with those that believe that 0.55 went a tad too far in one direction. Usually updates to games don't involve dramatic changes in gameplay. At least not without warning. What frustrates me the most are the spawns. If you're going to change where needed items in a game appear, the spawns should reflect a similar change. I would think. When I spawn in the middle of nowhere. Miles from the nearest town. How am I supposed to survive long enough to find food? But, I like DayZ anyway. I will try to work my way through this update. Who knows. Maybe my survival skills will be improved by this update. What seems insanely hard now, may prepare me for the final version. When I look at Call Of Duty, which is being ruined by the devs pandering to 12 year old quickscopers - no dis to 12 year old DayZ players - I realize that DayZ is becoming a better game. While COD is turning into cow dung. Although, I do think the DayZ zombies need fixing. Their glitching all over the place is effed up.

Thanks guys. I'm still learning the map. Many times I spawn and have no idea where I am. I still think DayZ is one of the best games around right now. I know when I am more knowledgable about the map I'll be able to get around better and find what I need. I appreciate everyone's help.

Thanks, 8bit_Survivor. Now, if I can survive long enough to find these things that would be great. Where do you normally find a military jeep? Are they everywhere? I didn't know you could find a weapon on a house. I've just about given up looking in houses from what I've heard and experienced so far. Well...let's see what happens next.

I watched WOBO's video on 0.55 and he says very little about where loot can be found. I played for 5+ hours yesterday and found 0.55 a very frustrating patch. I get it. It's a survival game. But I kept spawning miles away from any loot that I spent most of the time dying by starvation or getting killed by zombies. Someone suggested picking apples to survive. Ok. So how do recognize an apple tree? Where are they? And if I don't have a backpack or jacket - which both are hard to find - where do I store the apples? I think 0.55 was an extreme leap. Yea I know, it's supposed to be hard. But, it went from fun to annoying fast.

Ive heard people talking about picking servers based on location. But when I look under Details for a server there is no indication. How can I pick a server based on location?

How can I tell where DayZ server is located?
vfxtodd replied to vfxtodd's topic in General Discussion
Yea, normally I do look at the server's ping. So I'm on the right track. Thanks everyone. -
i played for hours yesterday. On high and low population servers. I could find ammo, but no weapons to match. Or I could find a weapon, but never find ammo. Do the servers have to restart before the loot is replenished? What tips does anyone have for getting ammo and weapons?
-
1. Whenever I engaged with a zombie, or tried to defend myself against a player, the lag in DayZ would SHOOT THROUGH THE ROOF. When I was defending myself with a pick axe against a player with a gun, I was successful at first. Until...the lag kicked in, then my screen started freezing every other second. I magically got away, but not without a fracture in my arm. 2. I ran around for hours trying to find food and ammo. I never found ANY fruit. Ever! I barely found enough food to survive on. And in several hours of gameplay, I found TWO backpacks. TWO!! I've never played a day this BAD in DayZ before. 3. I found two pristine FULL 30 round clips for an MP5. Could never find an MP5. DayZ is GREAT at giving you weapons where you can't find any ammo for it. Or you find tons of ammo without any weapons to go with it. Is it any wonder more players DON'T jump off buildings to respawn again? 4. I come across more zombies then I can deal with now with the new hordes and increase in zombies. This would be fine if there were an increase in fire axes, etc that would be available to find close enough to where I spawn. Today I was KILLED on two separate occasions by a zombie that struck me two maybe three times. KILLED! Why is that even possible? Especially given that they're harder to kill now more then ever. The lag especially is THE worst I've ever seen on dedicated servers. I don't care that this is in Alpha. What's with the lag? I watch hours of popular YouTube players play DayZ with very few issues. But, I constantly encounter extreme lag whenever I need to defend myself against players or zombies. It's just ridiculous. Today was NOT a fun day in DayZ. I hope this changes.

Actually it's a desktop. Should I still change the settings as you indicated above?
-
I see a lot of changes have been made. It's good to know what those changes are. I agree that it's a survival game and that it's bound to be hard. Thanks for everyone's help.
