That's because the game is still in alpha. Saying that anyone who points out the fact that a game that is in alpha says it is in alpha immediately invalidates all of their opinions is like saying, "Anyone who says it's hot outside when it's hot outside is wrong!" I'm amazed with how blind people are to the contradictions in their own statements. Ignoring the fact that DayZ is still in alpha just so you can rant about what's wrong with DayZ is a waste of everyone's time. Save the space in these forums for useful discussions and leave your childish needs in the box with the rest of your toys. Jeez.

Been awhile since I've been to Vybor military alone. Where is it in relation to the town of Vybor? EDIT: Doh!! Found it.

TIL the only trustworthy people in DayZ are nine year olds.

What Whyherro123 said. It's this kind of behavior that will lead to more pvp style gameplay in DayZ. Some players will like that. But, for the most part, this kind of attitude will only hurt DayZ in the long run. One of the most attractive features of DayZ, in my view, is that it can be played in so many ways. Players who take advantage of another player's kindness and generosity then turns around and kills them is the worst kind of play style to support. Then you have your players who don't want DayZ to have any canned food or accessible ammo in the game. Put these two groups together and you a game that isn't worth playing. So many people are so bent on having DayZ developed to their PERSONAL liking that they fail to realize that their attitude, if followed, will lead to one of the worst games ever developed. I'm putting my trust in the developers of DayZ. Because what I'm seeing in these threads half the time is pure selfishness extending to an insane level. I appreciate people sharing their ideas, but stop to think about what other players want before complaining about or crying for specific features in DayZ. Give the developers a chance to do what they know best: create an enjoyable game -

Wait a second. The little "booger" helped you hold down the fort while you took out the clan that you were sure were going to kill you. Is that right? Yet, you killed him despite him helping you. How is that not fucked up? -
Where DayZ stands on Steam is irrelevant. You clearly have a really THICK skull. You must've talked to 100+ idiots, because anyone who thinks they should be able to mod a game that's still in alpha has to be out of their minds. What's wrong, LeBus? Can't you even wait for DayZ to be completed? Are you such a control freak you have to take over the development of the game? Who cares who YOU have talked to. The ONLY person you can speak for is YOURSELF. Go play in the sandbox. And leave DayZ's development to the adults.
-
You're too self-serving, LeBus. Bring up mods when the game has been completed, released, and played by the general public. You can't mod a game while its in development. Are you that clueless? If the community can't wait for the game's release before modding it, then they're just as selfish as you are. What part about "alpha" don't you understand? The game is being "modded" as we speak. It's called "game development". Just because you're not accepting the process doesn't mean the game needs modding to save its future. You might want to write your thoughts down on paper before typing them here. Because what you're writing here doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Sorry.

I'm quite disappointed in the arrogance of the OP. Associating mod tools with keeping people interested in a game that is still in alpha is the most conceited line of reasoning I've ever witnessed. Most people never get their hands on games until they're released to the general public. Even suggesting "competition" for the developers is really insulting. As if the developers have time to compete with YOU while they're busy working on creating the best version of the game they can. I've never seen a game based forum with so many know-it-alls filling up threads with such garbage. Let them finish the game. Show some respect.

.55 loot, I'll just leave it at this.

Teddy bears actually provide protection for the items you place inside them. They won't get ruined. -

I'm curious. When was the last apocalypse you survived so you could be here today to tell us what loot to expect in a "real" apocalypse?I think it's safe to assume that grocery stores / supermarkets would be empty from people looting them right before an apocalypse. In DayZ, I might have found one or two cans of food in a supermarket when I first started playing DayZ. Nowadays I don't find any food in the supermarkets in DayZ. Where do I find canned goods and food in DayZ? In houses. You know, those buildings that people live in. Homes where you would expect to find food that's been taken from supermarkets. If DayZ were released today, one would expect that the game "takes place" soon after the apocalypse. Therefore it's safe to assume there would be some food worth looting in a few of the homes in Chenaraus. Some people say they don't want any canned goods or lootable food in DayZ. So, that would leave only hunting animals and growing stuff. If that were the end design of DayZ, you would have one big boring game. No one would move around the map, except to hunt the occasional rabbit, pig, cow or whatever. Chances are we would set up our own camps, and gardens, and only venture out to kill a rabbit or two. Of course you would have your bandits who would risk starvation by traveling the hills of Chenaraus to steal someone else's food and livestock. Or not. Bottom line, I think the developers are doing a bang up job of creating DayZ. But if some of the forum posters have their way, I fear Dayz would sell few copies in the long run. Please, share your stories of the last apocalypse you survived. I'm sure the devs would love to hear your expertise on the subject. Hey, we could even put together a reality show. Hmmmm. Let's call it, "DayZ: Stories from survivors of the Apocalypse". Maybe HBO or Showtime would pick it up. Eh? -

Great story. Yes, it would be nice to meet more players like Vinny. -
I run slow, is it lag, or something else?
vfxtodd replied to emuthreat's topic in General Discussion
You got it. Hehe :) -
When I edited my config files it made all the difference in the world. I would start there. I don't know what my fps has been, but my gameplay experience has been quite good since.

Only morphine could fix broken legs? And that makes more sense to you then using sticks and rags??Morphine is just a pain killer. Sticks and rags provide support. It makes more sense since morphine cannot provide any physical support. And morphine sticks are almost as rare as an extinct dinosaur. I'm glad the developers are smart.

vfxtodd replied to emuthreat's topic in General Discussion
Holding down Shift while holding down W, your character starts to run. Holding down W and letting go of Shift, your character returns to jogging. I play with emuthreat. My in game name is "mrGreenJeans". My guess is that the problem might be his internet service provider. Or the firewall in his router/modem? I'm not really sure. Just throwing ideas out there. I have come across other players who "run" slower. Their character is clearly in the running mode, but they fall behind rather quickly, like emu. I hope you find a solution. Not being able to run as fast as other players can get you killed. -
Make 3pp-only servers and 1pp-only servers. Simple. Goodbye.

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
vfxtodd replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
An orange orb floating over your character? Why not just have every player's character name floating above them in game? That's the only way to make it fair if you're "adjusting" for 3pp v 1pp. -

vfxtodd replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
I mostly play 3rd person because I'm still relatively new to the game. Plus, as I've mentioned before there are plenty of games that play in 3rd person where the community isn't whining to have it removed. The other day I was playing DayZ and came across other players who were armed and fully geared. I was in 3rd person but still felt the rush of the encounter and not knowing what the outcome would be. We were in the woods outside of Green Mountain and I didn't hear anyone else running around. Suddenly, I rounded the wall near the main gate and I saw a player running away from a zombie that was chasing him. I look to my left and I saw another player aiming at me and "blam!" I was dead. Did I get mad? No, I laughed my ass off because of the adrenalin rush I experienced from the encounter. Exactly what I play DayZ for. Would playing in 1pp be scary-ER? Of course. But, I still enjoyed myself, despite getting knocked off. So, you think you're hot shit playing in 1pp? Great. Tell your mommy how awesome you are. But, leave it at that. Stick to the 1pp servers if it's SO important to you. And let the rest of play as we see fit. Simple really. -
.56 patch coming anytime soon? Is this game progressing at an increasingly slower rate?

Most video games I play are of the First Person Shooter variety. But I'm not here to "rage" as some of the more presumptuous among us may be thinking. There are two reasons why I think 3rd person should stay. 1. When I first started playing DayZ I turned to the 3rd person view because it was available and it helped me get comfortable with a new game I was just learning how to play. There are a lot of video games that are played in 3rd person by default, and they don't have a player base bent on removing that feature. There are a lot of people in the DayZ forums who are so convinced they know how many towns DayZ should have, how frequent ammo should appear, how much food should be accessible, blah, blah, blah. And they think they know better then anyone here, including the developers. Choices sell games. Limiting choices without balance will kill games. 2. The one thing that drew me to DayZ and keeps me playing, is the fact that DayZ can be played in so many ways. More ways then most video games I've come across. I would like to see that retained. You don't like the 3rd person view? Then don't play in it. This is a video game. The developers have to think about attracting a wide audience in order to make DayZ a successful game. Sorry, but we are talking about a business here. Maybe someday the 3rd person view will be removed. I'm fine with that. But the game hasn't been released as a full version, yet. I suspect DayZ will change after it is released, when the devs see feedback from players about the various features of DayZ. Until then, I think it would be unrealistic and unwise to take away 3rd person until the game has seen some time in the hands of the public. -

I was playing DayZ a few days ago. I was fully geared with tons of ammo. I entered an inland town. Can't remember the name. It was about 5-10 minutes southeast of Vybor. Seemed pretty quiet. But then I heard a can cracked open followed by drinking. Then munching. Then the sound of ammo or rags being combined. Too many sounds back to back to be a glitch. So I crouch walked around. Suddenly....crack! The sound of a single shot whizzing by me. I couldn't tell what direction it came from, so I ran. I stopped. Peeked around corners to see if I could catch some movement. Screw it. I couldn't tell where he was, so I ran and ran and ran. Occasionally stopping behind a tree to peek around and see if he was following me. Man, I love DayZ. So what if I didn't get a shot off. My adrenaline was pumping. I was having me some fun! It's moments like these that make all the running around worth while. Can't wait to play again.

I'm glad the OP started this thread. I'd say he's done a good job of laying down clear explanations of DayZ's development. Another example that I think clearly conveys game development is Call Of Duty. That game is now on a 3-year development cycle for each of the three companies developing the game. If you take ALL of the maps made for one release of COD, you probably wouldn't fill up Cherno if you combined them. Even still, COD is released with bugs and problems every year. COD has millions of dollars backing development of the game, and loads of people working on it. Plus, COD is played most peer-to-peer. DayZ runs on dedicated servers. Activision keeps promising dedicated servers for COD, but never comes through. Unless you're on Xbox one. DayZ development seems to be going along pretty well. I look forward to the future of DayZ.

I figure since there will be a complete wipe tonight to introduce patch .56, I want to use the ammo I have to hunt down some Bandits. Because of work, I'll probably start around 9pm PST. I've got lots of ammo thanks to my running partner, so I want to make the most of it. Anyone else have plans before tonight's wipe?

vfxtodd replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
No one here in the forums, including myself, have ever developed a massive multiplayer game before. So I don't worry about the "pace" of DayZ's development. I wouldn't know what to look for in what's a proper pace for developing a game. There are many zombie apocalypse based games out there. But I think DayZ is the better version of the bunch despite its current alpha state. I think when DayZ is finally released it will probably outsell a lot of games. Not just the post apocalyptic type. That's just me. I've taken a break from DayZ on occasion. But I'm always pulled back because it's still one of the better games I've ever played. And there a lot of stale games out there. There are a lot of games that are derivatives of one another. DayZ is a breath of fresh air. I still have fun in DayZ despite the problems that come with a new game in early development. -

vfxtodd replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
I find it fascinating that some people think they know what makes a better environment then the developers. If every player chimed in as to what they think would make a better map, DayZ would never be completed. Are you a city developer/ planner? Have you ever designed an actual city before? I have played DayZ a lot. And I don't see any problems with how close the villages are to one another. You think they're too close? That's your opinion. Doesn't make it a fact. I trust the developers over anyone I've seen in these forums. So many egos proliferate throughout these forums, self convinced of the quality of their own ideas. Yet, have no experience developing a game of their own. DayZ is stil in an alpha state. None of us have any clue as to their overall plan. It's good to share your ideas. But to whine over the design of the game doesn't help anyone especially the developers. If you don't like the direction the game is headed, don't play it. But do us all a favor and stop pretending you know better.
