This is probably the best thread I've ever read. Really great ideas. I hope most of them are implemented. 1. Two people shaking tree to bring down apples. (Not silly, because it rewards cooperation. Great idea.) 2. Two players breaking through barricade to get at supplies / loot. Excellent idea. 3. Helping player climb over walls. Good idea, but how would the last guy get over the wall? Although he could run around the wall to spread out the surprise. 4. Trading between players. Excellent idea. One way to insure that both players trade, is to only complete the trading when both players have clicked a "trade" button. If only one player clicks "trade", he can cancel the trade by clicking "cancel". Simple. I love this thread. I will try to think of ideas as well. Good work, everyone. Cheers.

It's hard to schedule life, much less the development of a game I would imagine. So, changes in the schedule for going from alpha to beta wouldn't surprise me. Only when DayZ is finally released wouid I expect to have fewer issues to deal with in gameplay. Reporting bugs and glitches is what we're here for. Having expectations for the progress of a games development seems unrealistic to me. I'm not with the developers day in and day out. I don't know what issues they have to deal with while developing DayZ. So how can I complain?

Persistence to be disabled on next stable update
vfxtodd replied to Beizs's topic in General Discussion
Last night was a disappointing experience for me. Every server I played on was not only extremely laggy but they crashed after 15-20 minutes of gameplay. I ended up playing with two different characters. Was that because of persistence being disabled? I don't know. But I was annoyed when for the first time I found a Longhorn on my own, only to have the server go down. I don't believe in server hopping, but last night I had no choice since each server I played on went down at some point. I'm hoping that when I jump on DayZ tonight I'll find my character with the Longhorn. I'm not a KOS type player. But it would be nice to be able to celebrate having a Longhorn I found by myself. I've played over 130 hours. And I found my first Longhorn. So you can probably relate to my experience. Btw, I was shot by a couple KOS retards. Thankfully I was able to get away. I've lost a lot of blood so I hope to avoid zombies until I'm healthy again. -
Magic zombies? Cool! A couple days ago I fresh spawned, and I was already bleeding. Woohoo! You know what that means? Let's say it all together. Ready? "It's a fricken Alpha!" I like the devs. Because like good developers, they make sure I see the disclaimer every time I launch DayZ. You know the disclaimer. The one that tells you that you might experience problems because the game is still under development. Yea, that one. Haha. The cool thing is I actually enjoy playing DayZ. Sure I experience issues now and again. But, that's to be expected. Why? All together now......

You have my beans, DocWolf. Sorry for my over reactive response. I've been working 80 hour weeks. Sometimes the lack of sleep makes me over sensitive, which sometimes means I jump the gun in certain situations. No excuse though. I apologize. You wrote an excellent post. My bad. Cheers.

I'm guessing that as DayZ moves into beta, hence less buggy, we might well see content coming in. I hope to contribute in some way. I have Shadowplay ready to go when I feel inspired to record my gameplay. As of now I'm still working a lot of hours so I'm not able to play a lot. But when time opens up I hope to record some DayZ action. When I do I'll be sure to plug it into the forums.

Survivor says: "He's not actually wasting time. He represents a portion of BI audience and clients. Yes, a portion that can be called immature and not caring to get even a glimpse of insight of why things in game development are as they are, but still, a portion that I bet forms a large chunk of the sales pie chart, and are not irrelevant to BI, otherwise the company would show serious inability in creating their customer archetypes." So people that whine in the forums actually represent a "large chunk of the sales pie chart"? How in the world did you come to this conclusion? So, people that whine and waste valuable dev time with complaints make up a large chunk of buyers? This doesn't even make sense. More then likely the largest chunk of the sales pie chart will be people who've never played DayZ. Just like most buyers of video games. DayZ is the first game I've played in its alpha state. Very few games even offer an alpha for people to play on. Development of DayZ can only be nurtured by useful criticism and bug reports. Not whining and complaining. If more people kept their interactions to suggestions and bug reports, DayZ might be further along. Might be. I suggest helping the devs with bug reports and playing experimental servers.

DocWolf says: "We've already payed them a good amount of money for their product and we're still doing what is essentialy a completely free massive alpha test. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a doom sayer nor I'm trying to disrespect the work of the developing team...I'm just stating a fact: we're already showing them both apprectiation for their work and trust in their ability to deliver a good game." Hey Doc, do you have any dirty dishes in your sink? Try this. Take the cash out of your wallet. And throw it on top of your pile of dirty dishes. What happens? Aren't your dishes clean now? You gave the pile of dishes your hard earned cash! Why don't the dishes clean themselves? Dammit!! You see, the money you gave Bohemia pays for the development of DayZ. The developers of DayZ have bills and rent to pay. They have to survive while developing a survival game for whiny, inconsiderate people like you. Tough job, if you ask me. I've been frustrated by certain events while playing DayZ like a lot of people. Yes, I've complained, too. I'm no angel. But, thanks to wise words spoken here, I've decided to help the devs with bug reports. So, pardon me, I'm going to make a bug report now.
-
evil11: "Listen why all you "devs" waste time on forum instead of doing something? BI releases stable versions not so often, why not providing better experience with it? is that really too much to ask?" Why, yes it is. And why are you wasting the developers time with your whining while you could be sending bug reports to help them develop the game? You just wasted everyone's time with an absolutely useless paragraph of bitching and whining. So who's really wasting time here?

Aircraft: What kinds would you like to see? Share your opinion!

That's what I hear. You've got my beans. -
Aircraft: What kinds would you like to see? Share your opinion!
vfxtodd replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
FlimFlamm, Oh yea, I definitely think there should be a learning curve for flying. As long as I don't have to buy a special controller to fly with reasonable control. I'm being overly cautious about it because I've played games where the controls were extremely sensitive and hard to gauge. Considering that vehicles, ground or flying, will be difficult to find anyway. I'm hoping that when I do find one I'll be able to learn to control it over a couple months of use. After all, I'm trying to play a game, not take flying lessons. -
Aircraft: What kinds would you like to see? Share your opinion!
vfxtodd replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
I look forward to the inclusion of aircraft in DayZ. I think they should mostly be small helicopters and small planes. Because you would want to be able to fly, but not burn a lot of fuel doing it. Being able to fly at all is a boost in mobility in and of itself. I don't think flying should be difficult. This is a game after all. Not a pissing contest. We are dealing with a mouse and keyboard, not actual flight controls. I think it's safe to say that most of us want to have fun playing DayZ. As it is now, it's already difficult to find vehicles in DayZ. And I know for the most part it's because the game is still in early development. What bothers me about threads that focus on specific features is that more often then not the OP almost always has an idea of how to limit the feature in a way that just so happens to suit their play style. Which is fine if they're the only ones on planet earth playing DayZ. But, since they're not. More views have to be taken into account. We're all here to share our ideas and experiences. But, please don't whine if the feature you're hoping for isn't implemented the way you want it to be. DayZ should be entertaining for everyone who plays. Just saying. -
Battlefield and Call of Duty have much bigger wallets and resources then most game developers. I would bet more then DayZ has. Yet, Battlefield 4 and COD: Ghosts both performed horribly when they were released. What's their excuse? DayZ is dying on its arse? According to whom? Did you conduct a world wide poll to determine the popularity of DayZ? Or are you just bored and want to fight someone? Just curious.

"This game is not deep enough. There is little thought currently given to character progression." Huh? Why do people keep complaining about DayZ as if it were a completed game? What part of "under development" is confusing or not clear? Character progression? What kind of progression are you looking for? Why do you assume the character's "progression" is incomplete or insufficient? Based on what? "Zombies should work." Yea. Like when all the game content has been added, the renderer has been completed and implemented, and when it's ready to sell to the general public. You know, when it's been developed past alpha and beta. Better yet, wait for its final release when most games are expected to...what's the word?...work. Yea, work. Oh wait...Battlefield 4 worked like crap when it was released. Call of Duty: Ghosts didn't work well when it was released. Yet both games had millions of dollars in development funding. But, hey, zombies should work.

I predict this thread will close pretty soon. So I'll get in my chops before, assuming I hit the "Add Reply" button in time. The OP wants the game to be completed while it's still an alpha. Hmmmm. He wants perfect performance while the game is still being built. Things that make you go "Hmmm". Which begs the question to the OP. Are you itching for a flame war? Or do you always ask silly questions? Or, are you trying to see how many people will react to your clearly uninformed query as some way of entertaining yourself? Just wondering.

"In the end, without question the game is mostly a sandbox game and its entirely up to the player what he/she makes out of it." This is my take on DayZ as well. And that's how I hope it turns out. Laden with choices and a variety of experiences. But it will still be up to me what I make out of the game. Which is fine by me. ☺️
-
I believe you have come out of hibernation. Because you seem unaware of the fact that DayZ is still in alpha. Your questions have been answered a thousand times over. As it has been stated, performance issues are last on the priority list. Why? The final version of the renderer is still being developed. There are many other issues that need to be addressed before performance can be adjusted. Search the forums for issues you're having with the game, I'm sure you will find that many of them have been discussed in full, excruciating detail. Please share your ideas. Take into account what the current state of DayZ is when doing this. Some day DayZ will be in beta. Then we'll have fun sharing our ideas then as well. While watching the shit show of people whining about DayZ being in beta. Watching the whiners can be entertaining, but mostly they're annoying. Just saying. Happy looting.

I like the idea of joining different servers where the owners have modded it to be a different experience. As long as it's not modded to give them the upper hand, such as allowing hackers to intervene in their favor. Believe me, this would happen if it doesn't already. The mere use of the phrase "end game" suggests limitations. You can't deny that. By suggesting there are only three end games you're implying DayZ is limited. And this it what bothers me about many of the posts I read regarding what people want in DayZ. For one, vehicles are already hard to find. Really hard to find. I've played DayZ for 130+ hours and I've found TWO vehicles in that time. Despite my visiting towns designated to having vehicles at least once a day over those 130+ hours. At this point, vehicles need to be more accessible. Interestingly enough, I'm coming across more fuel cans these days. Which is good. But hardly ever finding a vehicle. Which is bad. There needs to be a better balance between fuel availability and vehicle accessibility. But this is an alpha - as SO many people keep forgetting. So I'm more then happy to wait for this aspect to improve before DayZ is released. Patience is rare in these forums. 1. Modding will help increase the variety of possible experiences in DayZ AFTER it's released. 2. Asking for the ability to mod DayZ before it's release, is like placing your cart before the horse. And it's just plain selfish. This isn't YOUR game to mod when you please. Remember, you're not the only one DayZ is being designed for. Hello? 3. If you don't like the current state of DayZ then take a break from playing it. 4. If you really care about the development of DayZ then please share your ideas. 5. Stop whining about DayZ being in alpha. That's its current state. Live with it or stfu. 6. Stop telling everyone what a REAL apocalypse would be like. None of us have lived through one. 7. Despite what your head tells you, your ideas may seem better then mine but they're just ideas. I have suggestions. But don't worry, I won't ask you to join a religious cult. We're just here to share our ideas. Not convert the masses. 8. In the meantime, I will play DayZ while I'm enjoying it. Or stop if I'm not. Happy looting.

End games? We don't need no stinking end games? Why do you insist that DayZ has to have an end game? Clearly you don't like players who create camps and stock up on food. Your prejudice was clear by your description. You're missing what makes DayZ unique compared to other games. That it can be played in so many different ways. I see people playing combinations of what you list above. You think as if people are going to pick one play style and never deviate. I have never encountered or played with anyone who plays DayZ just one way as you seem to suggest. DayZ is far from completion. And how it's designed so far gives me the impression it will be around for a long time when it's finally released. Let people play it however they want. Leave it at that. I personally don't see any purpose for a so-called "end game".

So, I'm guessing there will be more packets of seeds of more types of food to make up for the loss? People talk about making the game more like an apocalypse, so how likely are we to find packets of seeds of any food in an apocalypse? There has to be a balance between the availability of edible food and the growing of food to make it all work. Otherwise, it becomes like an American TV show: where you create suspense by leaving out pertinent information in the story.

I do like the idea of moving jumping to the spacebar. I would think I could bind the spacebar to the jumping mechanic. If it's not available in the controls now I hope it's added. I also think the mouse wheel is an awkward action button. I can't tell you how many times I've had difficulty using the mouse wheel to scroll and select and another action occurs instead because of a slight movement of my thumb. Again, here I'd like the player be given the choice of what key to bind action to.

Avant-Garde, I think a good way to deal with sway is to incorporate bullet drop more. Increase bullet drop the farther the shooter is from the target. Increasing sway more then it is now would render the weapon almost useless except for close quarter combat. Limiting combat to close quarters would definitely reduce sales of the game. Yes, this is an apocalypse survival game, but in reality people would be armed to the teeth. Wouldn't you gather up as many weapons as you could in a real apocalypse? I know I would. I think there is one thing many people in the forums aren't considering when it comes to DayZ development or the development of any game of this size. And that is, that there will be a lot of adjustments to game after its release. Until the devs see the game being played by the general public, and hear the voices of their wants and needs, they won't stop making changes until the majority of players are happy. And some of the changes that may come may piss off a few players. That's tough. Because that's how games are developed. There are untold thousands of people who haven't touched, and won't touch DayZ until it's released. And their voices and views are just as valid as ours. That's why I try to stay flexible regarding DayZ. Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if some people in the forums think their opinions should be treated as special because they were here "in the beginning". But, that's in the future. In conclusion, your ideas and my ideas may come and go during the development of DayZ. But, I'm hopeful that DayZ will turn out to be one of the better games I've played when it's released. At least I'm hoping so. The best we can do is offer the devs our experiences as alpha testers and beta testers in the meantime. Then cross our fingers and pray.

I believe guns should be no more difficult to use then real guns, if anything. I don't think it's good for the game to limit the use of any weapon, tool, or item simply because this is a zombie apocalypse. I've never survived an actual zombie apocalypse. Have you? The game is in alpha. Oh, there's that dreaded word again....alpha! Either accept it or move on. There's been way too much whining about DayZ being in alpha in these forums. I like how DayZ is being developed. But it is an alpha so I expect some broken mechanics etc. DayZ is in the testing phase. That's what a game in alpha means. Sorry if you feel ignored because DayZ isn't playing like a complete game. Cry to your mom, please. Let her hear the whining. It's gotten old hearing it here. Here are a few things (That's "few" as in not everything, in case you're not sure.) that I'd like to see in DayZ in its FINAL form: 1. More vehicles 2. Crazier zombies 3. More company owned servers. (Rented servers have some horrible admins who kick you if you're too good or not their friend. Which is fine if there are plenty of company owned servers.) 4. Spawns that move you around the whole of Chenaraus. Not the same spots every day. Which leads to wimps camping out to KOS new spawns. 5. Loot that moves around to keep players on their toes. It is an apocalypse so yes there would be difficulties. 6. A live means of reporting hackers to admins. Maybe a typed word that would trigger an alert to admins who may be online at the time. (Not sure if this would work. Just a thought. ) 7. A way to add a server to my Favorites when I'm already in the game. Sometimes I randomly pick servers from the list hoping it will be a good one. When I play I can see if my experience on that server is good. Many times I've looked in History and I don't see the server I last played. Why this happens, I couldn't say. Anyway, it's just an idea. These are just a few ideas. My ideas aren't better then yours. They're just ideas. Cheers.

i think when you're prone you should have very little sway. Hopefully at some point we should be able to use an object, like a rock or our backpack to lay the gun on and steady it. Since this is a survival game, creating makeshift tools is part of the experience. Hence being able to use an object to steady our guns when prone.

TIL the only trustworthy people in DayZ are nine year olds.
vfxtodd replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
You have my beans, voxframe. There are times I want to be the bandit. Usually when I'm killed on sight and I want revenge. Mwhahahaha! It is just a game. And I think playing DayZ however you want is what keeps the game fresh. Lone wolf can be fun and scary. Running with partners can be fun, too. So many ways to play. As you said, not many games like DayZ.
