Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
slyder73 replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
We found a bus twice the other night, just sitting there like a big old greyhound waiting for passengers. Lots of good gear in it as well. We drove it off into the forest into the trees and saved it with intent to use as our storage facility. Alas....hackers killed us and we didn't get back to it that night so it will be gone. There are busses. -
I've jet to find a playermade camp
slyder73 replied to Desirian's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That is because you have a "jet" to find player made camps...travels over the ground waaaay too fast to see them. If you were walking around, try looking on the high ground, out of the way of regular travel, away from towns, power lines and roads. Or in divots where a forest dips and reduces the ability to see into the area. My buddies and I had 3 nice little 2 and 3 tent camps set up on two different servers in the same places. Some players like us like to have a nice stable base with extra ammo and food/pop to supply us when we get back from expeditions and need meat for blood etc and a place to store extras. (Of course since we got killed by hackers last night we lose all that.) If you're looking for the big, duped in hacker/idiot camps, try the edge of the play map anywhere along the perimeter of the map or on the islands. -
This has nothing to do with a game being in Alpha. The hacking has been a problem in Arma2 for several years now. BI has never done anything about it, choosing to move on to create other games instead. Hackers still get on the regular game servers a few times a week too but it's much easier to idenify and ban them when you play with a dedicated group of people and the admin is around every night. And, it really isn't that big of a deal to get hacked and blown up or die by the invincible warrior when you fight, die and spawn every few minutes anyway. On DayZ, it takes hours or days to build up and you have a saved character across servers. The hacking destroys what makes this mod great and hopefully the pressure from the community will pressure BI and Battleeye to do something about it. It really isn't something that is in Rocket's control
-
Or maybe a high volume of threads about the same hacking issue will highlight the issue and put pressure on BI to help the DayZ team to actually DO something about the hacking that has been rampant for the past few years in Arma2.

Yeah, my buddy and I had 14 day old characters, had 3 tents set up in one server and 2 in another. Full gear, NVG, good guns etc and our camp to sustain us for longer expeditions. Login tonight after having to get off fast last night when teleported by the Thunderdome hackers and barely survive and had to run across the map.....and tonight, BOOM, literally, BOOM, gigantic bomb goes off and dead. No way to get back to our stuff within the couple hours so our camp is gone too now that we've died. The hacking is making it useless to try to play for any serious time because it is becommign a guarantee that on any populated server, the hackers will come along at some point in the evening and destroy it. They make rounds or something to cause disruption.

Factional area's, just an idea.
slyder73 replied to LuCiDiTy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That is not what I said at all. Don't put words in my mouth. Establishing society again is great, if a group or enough players can get together to do that (we saw how well that worked with the church service attempt on Sunday LOL). It should be player created and spontaneous, likely different on many servers. But NOT a game mechanic. If another bunch of players wants to tear down the new safe zone or civilized town, by all means great. Faction zones should never be in DayZ. That would be anti-sandbox/simulator/social experiment. Everything that effects HOW players interact with each other or organize themselves should be player based in game, not an artificial construct. Population of zombies I've never had a problem with. Think of the population of a town and the surrounding environs of a place like Chernogorsk for example. There will be thousands of people who might be infected. The fact that you only come across a few dozen at a time means the game is being nice to you. -
I disconnected from thunderdome last night. What do you mean nice weapons? I assume the ammo boxes are there? Are these weapons "legal" in DayZ or are they the main game weapons? Seems a bit cheap to take them now that I think of it.
-
Yeah, it's a hack. Happened to me last night, teleported to some kind of compound which I learned was called a Thunderdome. Has been going on a lot lately. I managed to very quickly disconnect before dying but still had to run all the way back across the map on another server. Does anyone know off hand if disconnecting fast enough prevents the hive from saving your new location? I'm thinking being teleported up into the air or into a very far away place. If one disconnects or ALT F4's really fast can that prevent the location save?

Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
slyder73 replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
If you're high enough you can eject. When flying in regular combat on the Arma2 servers my pilot often gets shot out, if high enough, you can eject and chute down. Your angle of exit also matters. Sometimes if the side of the chopper you exit from is facing up by that point (rolling) then you eject up and immediately fall into the rotor. Same if the nose is up, you can exit and then get hit by the tail rotor. -
Factional area's, just an idea.
slyder73 replied to LuCiDiTy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I do run around with a group. If our group wants to secure and set up an area, that is our choice. If we choose not to or if I choose to run around as an individual that should be fine too. Creating faction areas is just an artificial game mechanic that forces players into a certain play style or region. Plenty of other games out there like that already and I don't play any of them for a reason. -
I used alt+f4 today... but I think I have a valid reason
slyder73 replied to T8TRG8TR's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds like you logged out in a very poor place, bad choice on your part. Then when you log back in the same said high traffic, high player area, you get shot and and ALT F4 out to protect yourself. Not legit use of ALT F4 at all. Your fault, make better log out choices. -
Tonight was the first time I've personally been effected by hackers. Buddy and I joined US 267; immediately something seemed odd. They had a message at the opening screen where it usually just says "waiting for character to create" Their additional message was something to the effect of, "all guns can be found at the ammo crates, the UH1H spawns in 5 mins. sponsored by thisgamesucks.net" And something about the Thunderdome. We played for about an hour and things got very laggy, everythign froze for a few seconds and suddenly I was teleported to the NW airfield where some sort of concrete compound had been erected around the runway. As soon as I was teleported I disconnected so not sure what happened after. I didn't want to be there when the whole server got teleported there. I was hoping I got off before the server saved my new location but when I logged into another server I was at the NW airfield. Had to run the 6km back to where my buddy was who DID get out in time. Either US 267 has been taken over by hackers or they are hackers. This occured around 10:30'ish Pacific Time.

First time transport hacked on US 267
slyder73 replied to slyder73's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So follow-up question to this thunderdome, transport hack problem on servers. Once a player is teleported, how fast does the database save that? If one gets teleported and instantly killed, can ALT F4'ing really fast prevent that from being saved on the hive? Or again, how often does the hive save? -
Factional area's, just an idea.
slyder73 replied to LuCiDiTy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds gamey, artificial, contrived and World of Warcraft-like. Takes away from the spirit and complete differentness of DayZ. Bad idea. -
For the love of god please remove the knock out mechanic
slyder73 replied to badger05's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, when you get hit by bullets there is a good chance you go into shock or get knocked out. Pretty realistic. Do you suggest the game allow multiple bullet hits with no realistic effects? Just avoid being shot. -
All players must be assumed to be hostile, even if they don't have a bandit skin. I would treat all with the same level of caution regardless of skin. It would do nothing to improve teamwork or gameplay as suggested. It is just artificial and contrived.

First time transport hacked on US 267

What toys? As soon as I got teleported I disconnected. I didn't want to stick around for the predicted shitstorm. -
Game is now unplayable...killed 5 times today from thunderdome or instant death
slyder73 replied to Andrew111's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thunderdome. That is what got me tonight on US 267. Teleported to this concrete compound at the NW airfield. I disconnected as soon as I teleported, knowing what was happening but I still had to run the whole damn way back on another server to where I was with my buddies. -
Why do you assume that it is a hacker's tent? A single tent at that location? Probably just some poor guys' camp, likely the one that hatcheted you. Not a hacker at all. Invisible? maybe a hack, also a bug that happens, or else he was hidden in the tree nearby or something.

Kicked off by BattlEye: Script Restriction #55
slyder73 replied to kyriel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We had this last night. Found a tractor, buddy was driving it for about 30 seconds and got kicked by battleye script restriction #55. Our vehicle also diappeared. -
Some lessons learned about the Huey.
slyder73 replied to Larce's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah, what is the script restriction #55. My buddy got kicked with that one last night and our little red tractor disappeared. -

This is a realistic game, you cannot switch pilots in flight. -
How does out of bounds vehicle despawn work?
slyder73 replied to Maderas's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What server? lol We discovered three players in our camp near the South last night and chased them off with a few bullets. There was a tractor left behind in a bush, not sure if it spawned there or was left there. Full of stuff, gun etc. We drove it off but my buddy who was driving got some weird battleeye kick and the tractor disappeared. -
It was posted on one of the previous patches that zombie behaviour also includes some random chance of detecting players in the vicinity they "could" see. You are doing the right things (to the OP), but you are being detected by the random zombie. We have found that simply running full tilt into a town and into a building is better. Most of the time there are no zombies after us and the 1 or 2 are easily chopped or shot at the doorway.

Yup, we found a lovely little red farm tractor last night. In the middle of driving it to our tent, my buddy who was driving it gets battleeye booted. As the tractor is a 1 man vehicle, by the time I caught up to where he got booted he had logged back in. The tractor and the gear we put in it had disappeared completely. We were left with a lesson, don't trust the gear, and again reminded never get attached to it.
