Incorrect. Search any video on the matter. If you are in the grass from your perspective, you will be sunken into the grass from any distance. Not entirely. BI implemented that a couple years ago because the prone players at distance were SO visible. Players do "sink" down into the ground some, but they are stilll very visible to anyone who knows what they are looking for. You can still see head and shoulders and any movement makes the whole body visible for a short time. There is no grass at distance, only up close in perspective. I think most who play Dayz just don't know this, if they havne't been familiar with Arma2 before. -

I just came by here to post a new thread asking about this beta patch. Sorry, i'ts .94444 something or other. The website here goes up and down with the excess load and I can't find it at the moment. Someone should know what I mean though, all the servers are running it. Can someone please clear some things up for me. I run STEAM version of Arma2: OA. I do not use an updater becaue it screws with Steam. I let Steam do the updating automatically because my technical skills for manipulating the files etc are frustrating to say the least. I get 1.7.2 and already notice that almost all the servers are running this beta patch and I cannot get on. What is that beta patch? Will Steam update it automatically? If not, what can I do about it? How would I install it via Steam? And will it screw up the Steam version of Arma2 when Steam tries to autoupdate in the future? Thanks for info.

If it can figure out how to stop players from passing and shooting through walls' date=' I'm pretty sure it can handle the same logic for other in game entities. [/quote'] Players are supposed to be able to shoot through walls. What the wall is made of and the calibre of the bullet determines if the bullet will pass through. You can shoot through metal pipes and bricks with some guns, just as in real life. -
DayZ 1.7.2 Stuck on Loading Screen..

I figured out how to get the Six Updater working and updated to the current beta patch and ran Dayz. I was able to load and play for the first time in WEEKS! It did take about 5 mins at the loading screen though, and another 2 mins at the Waiting for Charactar to Create screen. 7 mins total. I would guess this is from the main servers being overwhelmed today. -
THanks for the help. I got the Six Installer going and it updated everything fine and Steam still works to run and play Arma2 on other servers.

Thanks for the reply. If I want to do it manually, where does that .94444 patch go? And how? Also, anyone answering, keep in mind I play regularly with a group on regular game servers. Will installing this beta patch make me unplayable on those other servers? Thanks.

For a great many players (including myself), 1.7.1.5 was unplayable too. I could not play for the past 2 weeks. Reverting back would not be progress. The world does not revolve around you or any other individual player. Each update and problems help the game get developed. That is how it works. Sometimes you may not be able to play for a while, or along while. Go to a bug thread and post the info you have on why you can't play. It helps.

DayZ 1.7.2 Stuck on Loading Screen..

Same issue. Was not able to play 1.7.1.5 because of debug issues. Running Steam OA: Combined Arms. I don't know what beta, not even sure how to tell, let alone how to update manually. Most of the few 1.7.2 servers running I can't join. The couple I don't get red X tell me I have "connecting failed" or something like that. The one I DID get on I got stuck at the LOADING screen (with the graph bar all the way up). I could hear the environment sounds but just black screen. -
Dayz loading straight into Arma2 menu

Did you find the confirmed install for the six launcher for Steam versions? Steam is quite finicky when playing around with mods and stuff in Arma2. I would avoid the launcher and install the files manually into the correct directories for Steam, which will be different than the commercial version. -

The best solution so far is the long time out after disconnecting to avoid disconnecting to avoid death. The better solution to hopping servers might be to implement another time. When you log into a server your server timer starts at 10 mins. It counts down to 0. At 0 there is no wait to join another server. But, if it's at 9 mins when you disconnect, you have to wait 9 mins before you can load up on another server. The timer would ensure that players at least stay a minimum amount of time per server unless they don't worry about the wait. This also impacts the regular "law abiding" players the least and it won't run into the problems others have pointed out with the OP's solution. -
I had my issue on 5 different servers. It is also like the debug forest in that there is no gear and no zombies. But there was a dead player that I looted (though it wouldn't save across servers). Some kind of bug related to the debug bug I'd guess. Haven't been able to play since the 1.5.1.5 update.

Welcome to Arma2. :D I'ts been like this for years. I don't know how many thousands of times I've died in the regular game when I get stuck on a rock, or can't get over a wall, or walk off a staircase, or parachute touches a tree or something. The game shines when you get 60 players on a big combined arms battle with tanks, jets, laser designating targets and infantry moving in. Up close and personal..just doesn't do justice to what this game is capable of. Dayz is going to be frustrating for many because it's taking the best working physics/equipment elements out and building it's game around what doesn't work as well. That doesn't make the mod any less GREAT, just have to accept what it is. -

You have to turn it on. It is not on all the time. I don't use them in the regular game much so can't remember if it's a key that turns it on like the flashlight or if it's a mouse scroll.

Just came in here looking to see if this is an issue. I am also getting this same issue. A few weeks back with the 1.7.1.5 update, my friend and I both were unable to play. The few servers we could still get on both of us spawned out in the debug plains. Gave up and hoped for 1.7.2. Couple weeks go by and still no update so we rearrange our files, leave our regular game server and come back to DayZ. For some reason now I am out of the debug but I spawn over and over at the beach by Electro. I have been on 4 different servers that work for me, moved around, gone to deer stands, exited. Each time I load on a new server I start with all the gear gone that I've picked up and on the same place on the beach. (Incidentally, my friend is still stuck in the debug plains.) . Spend the last 2 weeks stuck in the debug plains. Tried last night after a week or so break hoping something was fixed and discovered that I spawn on the same place at the beach by Elektro with nothing. I still have the toolbelt gear and the stuff in my pack that I had in the debug...but all the rest of my gear is gone. I thougth GREAT, it's fixed. I played a bit, moved around, found some gear on a body and left server when it got dark. Loaded a new server and bam, new gear gone and back ot the same place on the beach. So I tested on 3 other servers. All of them I join, move around try to get gear and exit at a different point. All of them I load back up with my previously saved gear on the same place at the beach. Also, for bug reporting purposes...I did not see a single zombie on any of the servers I was on. Near buildings, deer stands,no zombies. There was also no gear in the deer stand on 5 different servers. The only gear I picked up was off a body on the beach (that did not save to the next server). Something is buggggged out.

I had the same issue a few weeks back (last time I could still get on any server) with an Alice pack and weapons in hand and in pack. WHen I moved in hand to the pack to make room to bring pack to hand, the one in the pack disappeared. I have also had disappearing issue when finding a new pack. Mostly full pack on my back, new, bigger pack on ground. I pick up new pack. Now new one is empty and now on my back and old one, still with all my stuff is on the ground. When I open the pack on the ground to try to get my stuff transfered over (not scrolling to the pick up pack) the first item I moved caused the packs to swap again. The old pack with my gear stayed on the ground but the gear all disappeared. The new pack also disappeared. I was left with my first pack and no gear.

it's pretty obvious. if u r going to connect to 10/40 server' date=' it's probably something wrong there. try 40/40 instead [/quote'] Some of us don't want to connect to 40/40 servers, because that means the number of zombies is ridiculous... making it VERY difficult to play... and that's not even MENTIONING the douchebags who live to cause grief for other gamers. I'm guessing you're one of those by your comment. The fewer players on a server, the fewer zombies on that server, and the smaller chance of dying. THAT seems pretty obvious. Jackass. This ain't the Sims yo. The number of zombies total on a server is completely irrelevent to you as a player. Zombies spawn when players get near areas where zombies are capable of spawning. If a 40 person server had every single person go out in the wilderness together where there were no buildlings, there would be no zombies. Zombies spawn as you approach areas that have buildings. The more zombies on a server only tells you that more of the players are in towns and near buildings. It's a good way to tell from a distance if there are players where you are heading, if you see no zombies and they start spawning as you approach...likely means no other players are nearby. The number of zombies that you encounter personally depends on the size of the built up area you are entering, nothing else. -

Back up a bit. Have you made sure your actual Arma2 game is installed and that you can play on any regular Arma2 server? Check that first. A red X means you don't have the correct version of "something" but it might mean the OA addon for Arma2. Then make sure you have the Operation Arrowhead addon. make sure the addon and the regular Arma2 games are combined. Then open your Arma2 Operation Arrowhead: Combined Operations adn confirm that you can play on a regular game server there first. You have to be sure you can actually play the game that Dayz is based on first. Then, when you know the game works, get the Dayz files and install the mod. Remember Dayz is just a mod for another game. There are a few steps to get the actual game working and to use Operation Arrowhead: Combined Operations first.

Disconnecting has become a major problem

I would love to see a 45 second timer once someone disconnects from a server. Their character stays on the server, standing there vulnerable for 45 seconds, or even longer. That would stop the disconnecting in it's tracks. In a firefight and disconnect, you are stuck vulnerable.
