  1. REally? How assinine is that? Why would they put out a patch that disables multiplayer in a game that is ALL about multiplayer? I'm talking Arma2. DayZ as well i suppose but it is Arma I can no longer play since the auto update from Six Launcher.
  2. Yeah, Six Launcher has done somethign to the stock Arma2. Since the last update a couple days ago I cannot play anything besides DayZ. I've been trying to play my regular Arma2 servers but no luck, I just crash and get the "......has stopped working" window.
  3. First, go to the Arma2 game itself and play the tutorial missions, and get used to the mechanics of the game. Almost everythign anyone says to you until then will make little sense to you in terms of keys, scrolling mouse, map, navigating my map and landmarks etc.
  4. I am also experiencing this same issue since most recent beta patch. I used to go back and forth between DayZ and my regular PvP server in Arma2. After playing Dayz for a couple of days with the new patch I tried to go play Arma2 tonight and get this crash and "stopped working" error as described. It is also reported on the Arma2 forums regarding this beta patch. I use the Six Launcher to run my Dayz and run Arma2 a different way. It has worked right up until the most recent patch. Any ideas anyone? Or just wait until an upcoming patch fixes it?
  5. In the past month or two playing, I have yet to encounter a hacker. I think they are around but the rumours on the forums make them seem a LOT more prevalent than they really are. (We also avoid Cherno and Elektro, where hackers apparently like to blow up the town, so haven't encountered that either.) It seems like every time someone gets killed by anyone with a better gear setup or rifle they come on here and complain of hackers. I also have high end gear, NV goggles, and good rifle etc, all WITHOUT the benefit of scripting. It really isn't all that hard. Our group runs and if we all die, it only takes aobut 2 nights of playing to get re-equipped with high end gear. Just takes patience, care of surroundings and staying the HELL away from the major towns down South and the airfield. If you think everyone with good stuff is scripting, then you really need to change the way you play and not blame hacking. You are doing something wrong. To the OP. All of that equipment besides the rifle is legit. It may have only taken him a couple days to round it up. The rifle....may be legit as well. Did you notice if it was a thermal sight or just a NV scope on the rifle? They look similiar if you haven't played a lot of Arma2? The L85 with the thermal is (I believe) currently out of the game. Did you notice the type of rifle?

    Direct communication?

Hmm, I LOOOVE my Logitech G35! As for your sound issue. I have my G35 plugged in via USB and run the game with a TS channel outside, a seperate google chat channel and third, the ingame VOIP. All three work fine. It must be some sort of conflict? Do you use the G35 drivers etc? All updated? Are you running game plus TS/mumble or whatever all in admin mode? I have an issue with sound when I forget to lead TS up in admin mode, then TS does not transmit while I'm in game (though I've not tried VOIP in those circumstances).

    Where am I?

The English pronounciation is what people use (unless you're from Russia I suppose). You'll notice both Russian and English on the maps. In the game, sometimes you have to use streetsigns or the highway distance marking signs to figure out where you are. Those are all spelled in the native Cyrillic alphabet. That is where the map comes in handy, look at the Cyrillic and refer to map to see the alphabet you're familiar with. Some of the Russian names look pretty close but some would leave you scratching your head.

    Where am I?

Bookmark a good map. This one will do, it also has all the gear spawns etc. http://dayzdb.com/map#4.085.067 Then learn to use contour lines and landmarks like you learned in school (hopefully they still teach this in school), to navigate around the map. When you find a compass or map in game it will be much easier. Zoom in on that map and you can see the buildings, landmarks etc.

    Direct communication?

Ultimately, the VOIP is a server settting. Direct is allowed but is up to the server to turn on or off. Are you sure the server you are playing on has direct chat turned on?

    Safe Zone Idea

So called "safezones" in apocalypse genre movies etc are not contrived places where law and order suddenly is in effect. They are part of a story line and there to show that people come together to KEEP and MAINTAIN civilization by all agreeing to cooperate. Much how law works now...law and order work because the vast majority of people AGREE to follow them. In this game mod, for a safe zone to not be contrived, it would have to spontaneously spring up with the cooperation of groups of players, NOT be built into the game without the majority of players on a server agreeing to maintain it. That would just be dumb as described, most would not care about it and kill anyone around. If you want a safe zone, get the majority of players on a server in a given night to get together to patrol a town or set area and provide a safe place to trade goods etc. Players who come in to cause trouble can be killed, because the MAJORITY of players would be consenting to the "rules" of the place. That is the only safezone analogy that works for this game style. Creating artificial zones and hoping eveyrone will magically be nice around them...that belongs in WoW, or that other WarZ game, not here where things are more realistic.

    Safe Zone Idea

Bad idea, takes away from the "spirit" and realism of the game. Too artificial and contrived. If you like the sounds of WarZ, wait for that and go play it....it will also have raids and gold coins.

    Deer stands?

Bookmark and use that map that someone posted. It will be hard enough to navigate by contour line and landmark with it unless you find a compass and map in game, in which case waypoints can help a lot. (I have a 4x4 sheet printout, topo map of Chernorus LOL) The deerstands have ok stuff, but you'll have to belly crawl past the military zombies that will be nearby. You can often get a nice big pack in the deer stands as well as a firearm.

    Selecting primary weapon?

This is the place to ask questions. Keep in mind, when starting up, that hatchet is a GREAT zombie kiling weapon and pretty good defense against people too if they come at you. If zombies chase you in towns while you are trying to find gear/good/liquid, run into a building. The zombies stop at the doorway for a couple seconds and then move in slowly. Just stay out of their reach and swing the hatchet. You can kill hundreds of zombies without getting hurt that way, and the hatchet is silent so it doesn't attract more, nor does it alert other players that you are there.

    Punishing bandits? Shut up, seriously.

LOL, which is exactly why we stop at every field or opening in the trees, spread our group out and do a full recon of the hillsides, treelines, any buildings etc. Because SOMEWHERE there could be someone watching. Most would shoot. So, we clear our path by killing the observers. This also guarantees that no other group is going to get info relayed to them that a mid-size, well equipped group is moving in a certain direction. We don't want people knowing where we are moving...it prevents uncessesary gun battles where one of us might die. Recon, clear and move on. If you're not in our group and you see us, we more than likely kill you. If the observer we spot beats a hasty retreat and moves away, we immediately bug out in a different direction and then switch back, again, trying to throw off any info going out about our movements. Same if we have to kill a zombie in a town by accident. Any of us fires a gun, bug out time because any gunshot in town is basically ringing the dinner bell for other players to come investigate. I agree the stats for murders should be taken out. There are so many reasons why players kill other players, all of them are legit to the player who does the killing. Nobody can judge. Punishing the killing of players? No thanks, that would pretty much end what makes DayZ great. And for those who get killed on sight, you can't assume it is just "some PK kid" killing you. It might be you were in the wrong place when a well established group was coming through and your being alive in our area is a liability. :D

    Punishing bandits? Shut up, seriously.

After the first few lives....I never get killed right away any more when spawning. Learn to adapt and change your style at start. Keep cover, get AWAY from main town, raid small areas for a hatchet and go from there. If you are spawning and getting killed in 2 mins.....it is ENTIRELY your own fault, period. As for murder counts or punishments....completely silly and against the spirit of what DayZ is supposed to be according to it's creator (Rocket), so keep those mechanics out.
  16. Or they think there is good loot being protected in those buildings, they log off, go to a different server, walk into the wired off buildings and then log back into the previous server behind the wire. The wire etc does not serve any purpose at this point as long as people can just "dimension hop". My guess, it's done because players have the stuff and are bored and want to see if they can block for the hell of it.

    Darwin List: Banned Users

Nohthing HAS to be read if you don't want to read it. Most people don't read the legal codes or highway acts of the provinces or states that they live in. That doesn't mean they don't assume they shouldn't drink and drive in the next state over. Bottom line, don't cheat/hack/exploit. Seems like common sense. Unless of course you are trying to find an excuse to shift responsibility for your actions away from yourself. Nice try.

    Why I faint

Keep your blood levels up. Blood from hospitals can be admistered by another player. Food brings itup. Wild meat that you cook brings it up a LOT.

    Camp help!?

Remember, when you set your tent up, that tent you have to SAVE after you put stuff in it. The tent then exists only on that server, so remember the server you are on. People can come by and steal stuff from it or the tents themselves so make sure you find an out of the way hiding place, and remember where it is and how to get back there.

    Server night time

Many servers will post on their info line in the server browswer either in game or in SixLauncher a timezone. It will say something like GMT (Greenwitch Mean Time) or UTC (Universal Time Clock, the same as GMT) and then say + or - a number of hours. Just figure out what GMT is from your time zone and you can see what time the server is SUPPOSED to be on. No guarantee however a server hasn't restarted or crashed and reset and the timer will be back to default, which likely won't match the info.

    Darwin List: Banned Users

Your choice not to read them does not excuse you from them.
  22. What makes you think that was a server hopper, and not just some poor player working his way in there to get some loot. Don't make assumptions. But nice kill. Also why I NEVER go there. B)

    How does item/zombie spawning work?

Run into a building. Zombies always stop at the entrance and take a couple seconds to start walking. I usually run out and draw a few in, then hatchet them at the door. Clears an area nicely. If you are stuck, run around a fence, they usually run up to the fence and stop for a second before changing direction, that is your chance. Practice with the hatchet on a wall until you get the distance memorized that it hits at. The hatchet can hit a zombie from further away than the zombie can hit you (the length of the hatchet). Do not let them get closer. My buddy and I killed almost 200 zombies the other night with just hatchets and only got hit a few times, no broken bones.

    Killing Noobs

You avoid being seen by other players unless you are playing with a group. Use cover, AVOID the bigger cities at all costs and move slowly everywhere you go. Scan the hillsides, buildings, treelines etc every time you move from cover to cover. Accept that other players fear you as much as you fear them and if they have a weapon they are most likely going to kill you. If you see another player, back away and leave the area (unless you are armed and prepared for a shootout or hatchet fight). If you have to shoot a zombie or make any noise, IMMEDIATELY leave the area, the sound will attract other players who will come kill you. And practice this....after a while your lifespans get longer and longer.

    Joining a Low Pop Server

Low population often means the server is dark. High or low, the tactics are the same. If you are getting started AVOID the big cities at all costs. Use a map (downloaded or on screen in background) to navigate with contours and landmarks...find a less busy city with a supermarket etc and get your stuff there. Big cities will ALWAYS be dangerous, even on low population servers.
