Whole towns with no loot. Nothing.
slyder73 replied to sidewinder_102's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not true as of the current versions. We routinely go from supermarket to apartment and barn and back around in a circle. The loot seems to respawn within a few minutes now. -

It could be the server you were on had been running a very long time and was having issues, and destabilizing. This is a common Arma2 issue. It is also possible it had been running for a very long time, things may be just picked through (although you say not even empty cans were spawning, so likely the server needed a restart). Just try another server. Your speed theory is not quite correct either. As long as Zombies have spawned when you get to an area, the loot will have also been triggered to spawn. My group has tested this as well. We've moved in fast and slow and it seems to have no effect on loot. What does have an effect is if the loot is taken and THEN we stay nearby. If we loot and stay, no respawn. If we loot and move away from the building, in a few mins the loot will respawn with a random assortment. Even driving up really fast to a loot spawn does not have an effect on the loot. As long as Zombies have spawned, the loot is also triggered. We have also experienced the same thing you have....and in all cases it was the server needing a restart. -
The entire Gamespy network is down for maintenance again tonight. They have posted times etc on their twitter. No server list will show up in multiplayer for DayZ or any other Arma2.

Same, both in DayZ, in DayZ launching via Six Updater AND in vanilla Arma2: OA. Something is up with the entire Arma2 system. I can't even get on to a regular game server (not DayZ). *EDIT* OK, there is the answer one post above. Wasn't there when I opened the thread I swear. :beans:

Bohemia and Dayz Devs fail to protect their community
slyder73 replied to BIOSEMTEX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You didn't read the thread did you? Foolish. Scripting is part of Arma2, always has been. DayZ can do nothign about it. Scripting is not a hack that battleye can deal with, as it is IN the gamecode itself. This is what makes Arma2 so versatile as a game. It just makes it hard for a mod like DayZ. There are many mods and game types for Arma2, though most have never played it until DayZ came out, you can't be blamed for not knowing this. Read before you speak what others have already discussed. -

What exactly can you find in a wrecked chopper that you can't find in a deer stand? -
Bohemia and Dayz Devs fail to protect their community
slyder73 replied to BIOSEMTEX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not true. I've played regularly since Arma2 came out. The server I usually play on gets hacked all the time. A few times a week. The server is owned and admined by someone who is diligent and knows the core group of us that play all the time so identifying the hackers is easy and they are banned. Bohemia Interactive HAS always needed to deal with hackers but they never have, it has been an issue since Arma2 came out. Now I realize I haven't come across one in DayZ yet but yes I understand they are there. Maybe now that the game has renewed interest, BI will work on some fixes for the hacking but I personally doubt it. When Arma2 was at it's height a few years ago when it came out, they dropped the ball then and went on to other projects. Hackers were never the priority for the company, but they've always needed to do something aboutit. -

slyder73 replied to BIOSEMTEX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Agreed, I have played for weeks or months now and have not yet run into a hacker, other than seeing an A-10 flying overhead once. -
What makes Arma2 great is that the weapons are modelled accurately as they would be in real life. I think DayZ should NOT mess with this. Keep the pistols as dangerous as they are in Arma2 in general. A .50 cal round to the chest should drop someone as easily as a .45 shot from a 1911. Anything else is just dumbing things down to be gamey.

slyder73 replied to Heru's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think a lot of players and posters on this thread don't realize that the deer spawns have the SAME loot as can be found at the airfields. There is just different probability of it showing up. But, there are a LOT of deer stands. You don't have to go to the airfield to find military loot. Just check out the dozens of deer stands. -
Question for Snipers - Crawling Through Open Fields
slyder73 replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
No, from a distance there is no grass, not even drawn in for snipers. Grass is only visible on YOUR screen in close and not visible to other players outside of that radius. Do not crawl through fields because you actually do not have any grass cover. -
Question for Snipers - Crawling Through Open Fields
slyder73 replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Welcome to the game. The answer is no, it is not a good idea to crawl through open fields. This is the Arma2 mechanics. The grass that you are crawling through on your screen is drawn around you for a certain radius. Outside of that radius there is no grass and consequently from someone else looking towards you they see no grass around you. This means that a distant sniper, on a hillside for example looking down at you in that field would see ONLY you and no grass. The grass obscures your vision but from the perspective of the distance person there is no grass around you. Take a look next time at distant fields etc, you will notice from your perpsective there is no grass. Someone crawling out there would be wide open and naked to the shot. The poor guy crawling would think he has the cover of grass but that would be true only withing that small radius to someone else also in that drawn grass area. Best to avoid open fields and when you have to cross them, find the narrowest point and run in a straight fast line. Zig zagging will catch the eye of anyone watching and puts you in the field for a longer period of time. -

Have you seen the loot spawns on a map? They are all very far apart. There are loot spawns from one end of the map to another so not sure what you're talking about. You seem to think "good" gear is only military gear and that too is everywhere all across the map. Take a look a the map I've attached. Still not sure you are saying anything besides you want the game to be easier for you to get good stuff. Easier would make this mod die, in fact I think it is too easy as it is to get military gear. Just look at how many deer stands there are. Too much military gear in game in my opinion. http://dayzdb.com/map#4.085.067 -
I can confirm. We had a camp of 3 tents for the past 7 or 8 days. No problems with them or the gear inside them. Last night after some sort of Six UPdater update, the tents, all three of them are gone. Not empty but gone.

My honest opinion of Day Z (And message to the creator)
slyder73 replied to d4rk51d3x's topic in New Player Discussion
THIS is the level of intelligent debate you bring to the game? Best you go back to your Xbox360 now son. This game "is fucking whack" (from your first post) to you for a reason, it was never meant for kiddie console gamers looking for an easy ride and an immediate gratification thrillfest. -

slyder73 replied to Heru's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So essentially, yes, you are saying you want to get the best gear fast so you can play and that is why you are dissapointed. Learn to play differently then. You are clearly doing it wrong if you can't enjoy 6 days surviving with a hatchet hunting for beans and avoiding people. Or working with a group who does NOT have (best according to you) equipment and having to help support each other with the equipment that you have found. This is a survival simulation game, realistically the "good" loot would be VERY hard to find and very few and far between. You seem to be saying you want the game to be easier for you so you can get to the point where you are willing to put time in. Well, put the time in TO GET the gear and survive in the meantime. -
So you had to kill someone and you felt bad? When was the last time ANY game made you feel anything like that? I would say this is why this mod is SO OVERWHELMINGLY successful. And no...numbers will not whither if access isn't made easier. I think the opposite, if this game became as dumbed down as every other shooter/rpg/zombie game out there (as others have described in this thread already), THEN the numbers will wither. As long as players FEEL frustrated and it is a challenge and interactions with other players actually make you feel something besides the 2 second twitch and shoot thrill, then this game will succeed. As for controls...I went through the learning curve several years ago when I started playing Arma2 and thought the same. A month or so into playing I changed my mind. The controls are natural once you get used to them, just as they are with any other game when you get used to them. More complexity does not make it horrible, it just makes it take longer to learn. Learn patience.

So... are crossbow bolts not retrievable?
slyder73 replied to xPandaHunterx's topic in New Player Discussion
As of now, you cannot retrieve crossbow bolts. In the game, they fire and travel ballistically as do the other projectiles, but they are coded as a "projectile" and thus are expended when you use them. Also, you mentioned that you don't know where you are. My biggest tip to ALL newer players is GET A MAP! lol Not in game, but print one out or in the background. Learn to use countour lines, landmarks and road signs to navigate and you will always know where you are. Here is the good map. It also has all the loot spawns, vehicle spawns and info on each. http://dayzdb.com/map#4.085.067 Enjoy! -
20 minutes??? LOL The learning curve to Arma2 is days or weeks! THEN the learning curve of DayZ is also days or weeks. Try playing Arma2 for a while then come back, the tutorial mission and all that experience will get you familiar with the mechanics. When you come back, learn to survive instead of whine....or...just go back to some online shooter or RPG game with no learning curve and lots of immediate gratification.

Once everythign is in your tent. Make sure you scroll the mouse and "save" the tent. Every time you add stuff, make sure you "save" the tent again. Otherwise some of that stuff may not be in the tent when you come back. Also, in case you didn't know, that tent you set up will be there in that exact spot ONLY on that server, but it will be there all the time. Even when you are not playing. Make sure you pick a good place, unlikely to be found. http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tent

So what if you lose it? It will take one night to get it all back. That is not rare gear. Zombies can knock you out, and you were not at hight blood. 9000 is definitely in the injured zone. Also, even though the zombies can't hear well, they do have a probability of detecting you at random from distance. Then they come running.

" Arma 2 Reinforcements Has Stopped Working "
slyder73 replied to entryfive's topic in New Player Discussion
I wonder if the DayZ team even knows this is a problem. I'm not sure if this is really a DayZ issue, it is either a Six Launcher or BattleEye issue or combination of both. -
That gun you really wanted? You found it? Well its gone!
slyder73 replied to deviantdigi's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Did you try to put the gun in your bag you said? You DO realize that the guns in the bag take 10 slots right? Plus whatever is there for ammo? Hmmm, sounds like you didn't. -
Just started this game..Have no idea what I'm doing..
slyder73 replied to Volgus's topic in New Player Discussion
OK, easier fix. Go here and bookmark this map. http://dayzdb.com/map#4.085.067 That map will show you all the buildings that have loot, what kind of loot and the probability of it showing up. It is also a countour topographical map. Learn to use the contours and landmarks to navigate. The game world is modelled EXTREMELY accurately to the real world. If you can read the stars, you can navigate at night for example; the Big Dipper points to the North star (if you are one of the increasingly rare folks still educated in astronomy and know the constellations then no problem at night). In the day, landmarks, contour lines, and short moves ALWAYS under cover and scanning ahead for other players. Try to find an in game map and compass. Learn how to mark waypoints on the map, that makes a HUGE difference navigating, especially if you are new. Also, AVOID going into Cherno or Elekro at all costs. Just don't do it. You will die and be frustrated. Get a hatchet, because that is the number one best zombie killing weapon that doesn't attract other human players, and get to smaller places to gear up. If you do find a gun and have to shoot a zombie (only do this as a last resort), then that gunshot will be like ringing the 10 dollar special bell at the only whorehouse in the West. EVERY other player within a few kilometers will be coming to kill you. If you have to shoot a zombie...get the HELL out of town and away from the area until you get a group to work with. -

I use the Six Launcher only for DayZ. That works fine. I cannot load Arma2 (via Steam) to play any other servers and gametypes or PvP now. Prior to the past beta update that Six Launcher auto-applied a few days ago, I was able to play just fine on the same servers I've played onf or years with no problems. Six Launcher borked something and they'd better fix it fast! Grrrrr..........
