Why do you all think you have to run to Elektro or to Balota? There are hundreds of other places to go on the map. Got friends playing? Plan to meet someplace where they can come back towards you, hopefully bringing some equipment. We do that anytime one of us dies. All plans stop and we go back to support the respawn of our group on his journey from the beach. If you're alone, you don't NEED to be anywhere or to run anywhere.

I've played Arma2 for years. And in DayZ mod I have not used one for a good reason. The camo gives the colour camoflauge without the additional outline size and irregular shape. They are too easy to spot for anyone who has played the game for a while. The outline is distinctive. As someone up two posts said, they are useful when you are close in to someone and in grass where they can also see grass drawn, they don't see you as well more because they aren't expecting you to be there. If one is actually looking for hidden "snipers" the ghillie suit is an easy spot. Even larger outline for thermal scopes as well. If you are hiding in trees or anywhere for that matter, the ghillie will be an even brighter and larger blog on the thermal scope. To the topic; has anyone experienced any bugs or issues putting the said camo outfit on? I have one ready but the last time I used any other clothing I spent a week in debug land.

Am I the only one with a near-perfect DayZ?
slyder73 replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was fine until the update yesterday. Now I get the nasty graphic artifacting issue. Before that, there was a week or so I couldn't play while stuck in the debug wilderness. I think that was the entire 1.7.2.5 time. -
I'm not srue what the big deal is with the ghillie suits. The camo is just as able to blend into the forest and surroundings. The ghillie suit gives a much bigger outline and stands out when moving more. When someone wearing one is laying down at a distance with no grass or anthing around them (of course from their perspective there will be grass, most players don't realize grass is only a locally drawn graphic), they stand out like a sore thumb.

Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
slyder73 replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Are the heli's on yet? Last night there were many servers locked after the update. Both my regular servers were locked with only 3 and 5 respectively in them, all clan members. I'm assuming they were doing the rounds and gathering the vehicles before opening the server up to the rest of us peons. Glad to hear at least one clan won't be parking them off the map, though that isn't as much of a problem as clan/admins locking servers until they gather all the vehicles. EDIT: Actually I just checked, the servers are still locked. Any bets once the helis appear and are taken by the admins they lock will come down? -
Crazy graphical glitches after updating to 1.7.2.4 and 95389
slyder73 replied to Ewan123's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I have not had this issue until updating tonight. I now have the artifacts, and can confrm at the NW airfield, when looking towards the airfield from the West side of it, the long artifact blocked the entire left two thirds of my screen. I did not get the artifact from the NW airfield if I turned to face West, away from the airfield. Was not able to get closer than about 40 yards from the control tower at the NWAF. Any closer than that, and the artifacting took the whole screen. My buddy and I did a test and ran into the first hanger and looking East, still complete vision obscuration. Looking any direction other than East from the Westernmost hanger was fine. Running Windows 7, 64 bit. nvidia GTX 260 Good MB (can't remember and i7 intel) 6 gigs DDR3 RAM All drivers up to date and system working fine. Full Steam version of Arma2 plus all addons and combined ops etc paid and installed. -
Fix for the 1.7.2.4 artifacting.
slyder73 replied to quint (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I am getting the artifacting. I have not had this issue before this patch. Is this "fix" supported by the dev team? Is it confirmed to fix what artifacting? Can the op define exactly what was fixed by it? Thanks....and apologies for being questioning, but I do not have a depth of technical knowledge and prefer to have confirmed and official fixes before I try to learn a new "system" of fixing things that may make things worse if not tested for all systems and configs. Thanks. -
Think of the in game map as a real life topographical map. You can use it to navigate etc. It is accurate to the contour lines, landmarks, elevations and locations. If you know how to read the map, the lines and know where you are, you can get around easily without a compass. Just be very clear about identifying where you are by the slope of the land. Grid lines and references are also accurate and can be used to navigate. To set a waypoint, open the map and hold down SHIFT and press your fire button on a place on the map. You will notice a small black circle. Back in game, you will notice a waypoint marker in your vision (this is turned off on some veteran servers). You can only select one of these at a time. This gives you distance but the map does not show YOUR location. So using the waypoint to check distance, IF you know where you are can be used, but it's much easier once you get the hang of the distances in game...you will be able to judge yourself. (Or find a rangefiner) If you click on the map without holding SHIFT you will see a thick black X appear in a circle with text entry. You can type anything you want here and it will show up to any other player on the server with a map who is on teh same chat channel you are on. For example, if you are on global chat or green group chat and leave a message, TRUCK HERE, EVERYONE can see that. So caution to not use that unless trying to describe your location to someone maybe trying to hook up with you. This can be deleted from the map by holding the mouse over it and pressing your DELETE key. You can also delete everyone elses. Don't trust other people's messages. Your SHIFT waypoints are not visible to others, just you. No,the in game map will not show you the loot spawns. Use the usual internet link for that one.

Playing IS testing. Testing by 200,000 players a day. It is also very hard on server hosts and I can see them trying to protect their hardware.

You need to stop tabbing out to come to the forums. PLAY when you are in game. Leaving the game while still logged in to check a forum? lol NO wonder you die. :P

First timer on DayZ ♥ (5 deaths and what happened)
slyder73 replied to MrKittens's topic in New Player Discussion
Nice first 5 lives story. :D SOOOOO nice to see a player take a mature perpsective on the HUGE learning curve that is Arma2....nevermind the additional curve that is the DayZ mod. Now, from what you've said. Learn to use cover...always, cover to cover and scan every single visible point before moving out of cover. Just when you think it is safe to leave a barn or other place, DON"T. Stay a few more mins and watch the door. Anyone watching you will get impatient and either come looking or move on. Safer that way. Also, you mentioned the DayZ loot spawn map. Use that. use the landmarks and contours and get very far away from any of the Southern or Eastern towns or any airfields. At least until you have decent gear and have built enough experience to live a good 7 or 8 days WHILE coming into contact with other human players. Deer stands have ALL the same military gear as the airfields. Just travel between them and get your guns, night vision, GPS and good packs. Avoid the airfields at all costs. That hatchet you found, in your gear menu, remove from toolbelt. That will put it in your hand. That hatchet is silent and the best zombie killing weapon in game. If you have a gun and you HAVE to fire it....immediately leave the area. If you are in a town on the South, DO NOT stop- to loot, get out fast and zig zag the trees and keep going. Every gunshot is a big old dinner bell for marauding bandits who will come looking for someone to kill. When you shoot, within 1 minute guaranteed....if not less....they will be set up watching the region for you to exit and expose yourself. Good luck and I hope to run into you in game in circumstances I don't have to shoot you. (What is your in game name by the way?) -
The vote admin is NOT an exploit, it is a foundation of Arma2. Admins of DayZ sometimes also do not know that this game has been around a very long time before this mod.
-
If you were ALT TAB'ed in Elektro, then you have NO way to know if you weren't zombie killed or player killed. You were out of game and could not see what transpired. The respawn "accident" that others have described is possible but I have never heard of that or experienced that in all my years of playing Arma and Arma2. On a regular Arma2 fight night I ALT TAB out quite often and add that up hundreds of times and by thousands when taking into account friends and group members and it not occuring in our experience a single time...That is VERY UNLIKELY. The most likely explanation is that you THOUGHT you were safe and someone was tracking you. Even more likely, a zombie had a long distance track on you and followed or took time to come through door etc and killed you. Once you were dead it no longer remained spawned in that area and when you came back you didn't see it. ALT TAB'in in Elektro or Cherno is very very very BAD idea. You are being watched, even if you think you aren't, you are.

Ah, I recall the old "DayZ", when life expectancy was 22 minutes.
-
I suggest you leave that clan. Clearly allows idiots to be members. You have to respawn and start again. *EDIT* Sorry, your original post is unclear. Did you join the server to be with YOUR two clan members or did you join a server that had two members of a clan that you are not part of on it? If the first one, quit the clan. If the second one, always try to keep track of the server and names if that low number. It is suspicious.

I just did help. Use the map I linked to. It has good quality contours etc. You don't need a compass. Just use the contour, meaning the shape and slope of the land to determine what direction you are facing once you have a definite location. Go in straight lines from landmark to landmark until you find a compass.

You posted this on the other thread like this as well. No, they are not. <_<

No, they are not yet. Don't give false hope! >:(

is it legal for a server admin to exploit ping kicking so no one can take their tent gear/vehicles when they sleep?
slyder73 replied to A.Jones's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
But you're "talking", what evidence do you have of this? You say the ping requirement has been lowered but how did you find this out? Or are you just theorizing? -
I like the message I get when I attempt to download six updater
slyder73 replied to Yeni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I just rechecked it as well. No Panda or any other kind of bear or virus. You have malware. Do a scan for it and a virus scan. You've been hijacked. -
People.....do a SEARCH before posting. The almost exact same topic already done. Or at least READ the thread BEFORE you post. The answer is already up several posts. Gamespy major maintenance until 3 AM Pacific time. Once you leave, you can get no server list in any Arma2 version or mod until they get it back up. If you happen to know the IP of your server, you can get on that way.

Learn to use the contour lines on the topo map and landmarks. There are road signs at the edges of all towns. Those towers with the "ball" on top are numerous. Here is a really good map with loot spawns etc as well. You should be able to zoom in and figure out your locaton once you get a sign to read. Match the Russian to the Russian name on the map. Do you know how to use contours on a topo map? http://dayzdb.com/map#4.085.067

I like the message I get when I attempt to download six updater
slyder73 replied to Yeni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You make no sense. You have six updater and want six launcher? They are the same download. I never had that panda thing. Do you have a virus? -
Some of the other RPG mods for Arma2 have heli's in them, no problem. It shouldn't be long for the DayZ team to replicate the stability those others have. Having played Arma2 from the start, including the RPG mods, having a helicopter is most often a liability unless you have a VERY organized, disciplined group who take their role seriously. It is also important for large groups to have a leader or all hell breaks loose and the whole "Leroy Jenkins" scene replays all over again including a big helicopter explosion or theft. I will stick to the ground. :P

It's sad that people leave when server hits night
slyder73 replied to Rager (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Unrealistically dark? Are you kidding? Have you spent very many days in the wilderness at night? I have. It is VERY dark. As dark as in game, if not DARKER, depending on weather. THe night time lighting is very realistic. The only thing that should be changed is the stars. The brightness of the stars are too generic. They modelled the sky to be as accurate as the real sky; if you can navigate by constellations in life you can in game. I have a hard time in game because the primary stars for the constellations are often the same brightness as the stars around them. But I too leave to play on daylight servers....for the same reason as most, it's too dark to enjoy without NVG. I currently have some so I stay in the dark, less likelihood of being discovered by other players.
