Options to identify a body (Hide playername when checking pulse on Hardcore)
Evil Minion replied to kll4's topic in Suggestions
Right - at the very least it shouldn't be possible if the checked player is wearing a mask. And with more identification methods there might be no need for it at all. Then you could rely more on appearance as well as communication. In fact getting the name might be a little too much because who can guess your name even if he looks at your face? It also gives away teams as some got tags before or after their name (which is their own fault though). -
We will see a arrow in the map showing where we are?
Evil Minion replied to kircheschm's topic in General Discussion
I have seen a post about a circle - which is bad enough given that you need fancy stuff like GPS to pull this off in real life (though its probably a bug). But a arrow would pretty much destroy the purpose of any directional signs (sun, stars, wind) and make the compass completely useless. -
Of course users should submit feedback bug reports. The core of what he saying is something like "we are doing internal testing while allowing others to join and play around". Thats kind of explains why there are no patchnotes for experimental: The real testing/playing with new toys is supposed to happen on the stable branch while experimental is more about generic mechanics like loot respawn.

Defensive capability means handling and offensive capability means damage output, roughly said? Where did you get this/the data for this?

You realize the average survivor will have other problems than pretty him/herself up. So everyone would be rather plain looking. Thats why I said: if makeup then as an ingame feature - just like camo face paint. If you don't know what I mean just look for pictures of celebrities without professional makeup. -
Options to identify a body (Hide playername when checking pulse on Hardcore)

Which actually gives them a true practical purpose: hiding your face. As for default settings they should probably be randomized the first time you start the game. So people who just jump right into the game get a random survivor. So you might change your character if you want to but if you don't you still won't be a generic clone. I would actually keep the appearance on death (unless changed before you died) for gameplay reasons as you also keep your memories and some of your buddies. Greatly useful... I don't know but it should have its uses. Of course its not priority unless you want some mechanics like growing hair etc. tied to it. Otherwise its just "adding more of the same" in terms of development (comparable to different color models for clothes). -

There is a small but important difference between "can" and "will". ;) -

Namely: - the second face has this pixelated left side that somwhat looks like a hundred ants crawling over it (at least on my screen) - the third face has a slightly olive skin tone that is missing on the arms (I believe this is also an issue for the existing models in stable) -

Thats also true in reality. If you don't know the face you will probably not recognise them anyways. Sure they won't get the system to a point where every two survivors will look different but its entirely possible to expand it so that for any two survivors the probability of them looking alike is very small. To the point where its reasonable to assume that the guy you just met is in fact the friendly one you encountered before and not an evil twin. -

In general fat/skinny has similar issues than big/small (although not at the same amount). And additional work should not prevent them from doing so though it might limit the amount. Right now there are two body models. I think having six or eight might be a reasonable amount. However, there should be well over 100 faces - to decrease the probability that two people on one server look exactly the same. I would also like to have decoupled face, hair style, hair color, skin color and eye color. From a modeling perspective the left face is the best because it has the least "errors". Edit: About makeup: I don't want any makeup on starting characters. If anything you should be able to find some ingame and apply yourself if you want. -

I think body type should be independent of weight. Its odd if everyone has exactly the same build. However in terms of gameplay they should be about the same (different shape but roughly the same size). Similar to this or this. If skinny/fat survivors were to be added then as consequence of their playstyle (fat would be pretty hard to achieve then) with appropriate downsides (e.g. skinny survivors won't last long without food and a weaker, while fat survivors would be slower and easier to hit). -
They stated they won't publish detailed mechanics because of potential abuse. Also not providing the changes gives a greater motivation for testing and leads to less predisposed testers.

Less Military. More Apocalyptic. (Clothing)
Evil Minion replied to YeBittenDog's topic in Suggestions
You might want to vote for them in the clothing collection then (currently running a poll about coats). -

Wow - you really pulled a necro on a active and well visited topic. This fact should show that most people agree with you. -

A well balanced face with few prominent features and high symmetry is good looking. Personal preference is more about gender and tolerating specific prominent features. Being young and healthy also helps. -

It didn't make it to release - its on experimental. I think the right one is okay aside from having a different skin color for face and arms. The left one looks a little older but thts about it - being pretty is no requirement. The middle one is probably bugged. -
Random dispersion models the small fluctuations of ammo, barrel, buttstock/grip, your own body, the air around you, gravity etc. Its not realistic but neccessary to emulate reality as you won't even get near satisfying performance with true realism. However you can put a high amount of this into weapon sway - which makes it possible for the shooter to adjust to the randomness, leading to more rewarding gameplay. So buttstocks and handguards should affect sway while random dispersion depends on weapon type, condition and ammo condition. Also: If an assault rifle gives you recoil like a submachine gun with the killing power of a rifle it needs to be much heavier than the SMG (as it fires more powerful rounds) which directly translates into more difficult handling (in game terms: turn rate, sway) and less mobility (in game terms: movement speed, inventory size and stamina costs) - things that should be important in DayZ. Same in comparison with other rifles: The magazine and the parts needed for automatic fire will increase the weight an complexity of the weapon. And manual operation increases muzzle velocity because you don't need to "hold back" a part of the energy for reloading. No, life is not balanced but if some desgns coexist they must be in some kind of equilibrium otherwise the less effective one would fade into history.

No. Why would you want to oversimplify the blood bags? It just takes away from the game and adds nothing. If anything blood test kits should be more common.

The AR-15 on the vote is somewhat unfair as it technically includes the military versions. I voted "no" (for the civilian model) but for the military versions (M4 and newer gneration M16) it would be a "yes". -
The DayZWiki stats for rifles might be wrong/need modification. At least this experiment by Aggathor suggests that the blood damage of the Blaze 95 is probably 1500 while the blood damage of the Sporter is probably 1000. Also by my own experiences the Mosin does significantly more damage than the SKS needing about half the shots to kill the target. I couldn't gather any real data though because of lack of willing targets.

DayZ Virtual Paper Doll - Community Clothing Suggestions (v1.30)

Next poll is up - its about coats (but not jackets). I know there is no clear distinction between those two but I only got so many voting options. Also not included are longer pieces of topwear that belong to a certain set only mentioned in "Sets" or "Craftable Armor" (which are some kind of dumping place categories at the moment). -
I think you either met Superman, an invisible Hulk and his toy or a hacker.

I think dispersion will most likely stay in game but it might be partially replaced by sway from what we saw in the last updates (especially the AKM dispersion). My candidates are: - dispersion - sway - recoil - turn rate - rate of fire - damaage - attachments and their effects - rarity/location Did anyone notice changes in one of those areas?
