  1. As said before realism just for realism sake is not an argument. But realism for authentic gameplay is and thats what the argument was about. You can choose to ignore anything but two words but that doesn't make the argument less right or your argument less flawed. A major part of the game is player interaction and another major part is survival. So realism that helps those aspects is good realism. Not respawning while uncounscious and no instant respawn at all are reasonable elements in this regard. Now death should be THE major setback and its simply stupid to wriggle yourself out of the main aspects of the game because things didn't exactly go as planned and you found yourself on the receiving end. Thats why the current state of death ("Oh my... I have to wait for 30 seconds... thats horrible!") hurts the gameplay or at least prevents improvements. Edit: I would like to add that fast respawns are probably better for testing purposes and thus better suited for Alpha. So while higher impact death would improve the gameplay its by no means priority as a feature. Still its worthwhile to think about making death something to be feared/avoided at all cost (for most players anyways) without becoming too restricting.

Benefits and Disadvantages of Carrying Two Long Guns

Pros: different ammo types make it more likely to find usable ammoyou can adapt to more situationsyou can give one of the weapons to a friend who would be unarmed otherwiseyou can hold on to a weapon you don't have ammo/equipment forCons: different ammo types might cause you to carry more ammo in order to use the advantageslower mobilityyou have to drop your weapon if you are about to perform a different actionyou might not actually get to use both weapons in a fight because you don't have time to switch (especially in defensive situations)people might perceive you as more hostile, also a higher chance of getting killed for your weaponAs you can see the last point of "Cons" is pretty reasonable as most of the advantages are only useful in "hostile behavior" while "friendly behavior" makes you feel the downsides to a higher degree. In my opinion if you are not into fighting a lot carrying two main weapons is generally not worth it. As a backup submachine guns, handguns or the sawnoff are probably better choices. If the devs would add a feature like a gun sling that magic equipment slot on your back would probably disappear making smaller arms much more valuable because of their smaller size - something I would appreciate.

Does carrying a sporter 22 make you a more 'friendly" player

Some guy walks towards you and says "Hi!" -> probably friendly. Some guy walks towards you and says "Friendly!" -> probably not friendly.

Does carrying a sporter 22 make you a more 'friendly" player

Its at least very likely if look at his other posts. Then zombies are very weak so if I specialized in shooting zombies I would probably use .22LR weapons - not because I am more friendly but because their ammo is plentiful (just as zombies) and they are pretty quiet (so less players will get attracted by my gunshots). The Mosin for example is probably the worst gun for shooting zombies as the damage is overkill, its loud and has a low rate of fire.

    M4 Stanag mags spawn? Dunno

It seems like they forgot to add the (semi-)new ammo types to the ammo spawns. .380 APC doesn't spawn at all while 5.56mm only spawns within AK-101 magazines.
  8. The M4 is probably just outdated compared to the other weapons - maybe they kept it weaker because it was so common in earlier versions or because of technical details. Back to the video: Wouldn't it be better to test the damage on a target that gives you a little more data? Because zombies are so weak and move around it might be pretty hard to estimate the damage values let alone the differences between weapons. Testing the damage on a naked player (see the video about Protector Cases) would probably result in much better data though I am aware that each test takes quite some effort.

    The DayZ endgame

I think "endgame" is supposed to mean the phase of the game where you stop worrying about your basic survival (food, drink, medical supplies, clothing, gear and ammo) and the PvE part ceases to be challenging. So making PvE harder, more challenging etc. will only postpone "endgame" and maybe even prevent players from reaching it for a long period of time. However, at some point people will probably raise above the environmental challanges - be it alone or by cooperation - and from this point there is only PvP (which does not mean you cannot be friendly and cooperative but your main challenges will come from other players). In short: "endgame" does not include challenging PvE - as long as PvE remains challenging you did not reach "endgame" - by definition.

Wait, what? Overabundant is not overabundant enough anymore?

Dayz was once described as a social experiment...

It portrays how humanity would behave if you would remove sexuality/reproduction and the fear of death. So it basically portrays a zombie apocalypse. Not with the zombies - but with the survivors.

    The DayZ endgame

Its true that "endgame" (I will stick to the word as I lack a better term) will resolve around player interaction. However, the OP speaks of the "absolute necessity to balance player versus player interaction" - which is simply... nonexistant. Why? Because everyone starts out with the same loadout and has to deal with the situations and the gear he manages to find. Because people don't have fixed teams and may cooperate with or other survivors as they like. Because some might find their fullfillment in social or cooperative interaction rather than killing each other - but even for them the challenge comes in the form of other players - friendlies and neutrals that might aid you if you apprach them the right way, hostiles you have to defend against and even rivals who want to "take over your business" in one way or the other. PvE will stop being a challenge at some point (e.g. when you are well equipped, healthy and got some allies to cover your back) and without villains even the greatest project will become mere work. Still adding some greater cooperative goals would greatly improve the game. The obstacles and challenges that make pursuing the goal fun and rewarding however, will be other players. Maybe because they enjoy hunting you, maybe because they kill you out of fear, maybe because they want to achieve their own goal and maybe just because mom called for dinner and they accidentally hit LMB with shock. Without them Chernarus would be a dull affair once you got your basic survival done.

    0,47 hotfix`?

It really works - you might aim a little to the left side as well. I created some success with a move that might look like giving the zombie a headbutt.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good: A believable (and hopefully at some point also challenging) world with quite some depth. The Bad: "Mimimi - too complex" guys who shun everything beyond looting and killing. The Ugly: The current implementation of death ("death light").

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?

If you want them feel free to vote for them in my "Suggestions" topic (link below). ;) It would require a completely new cartridge that is restricted to only a few weapons. If anything both weapons should be added but I doubt they will as there are plenty of better (in terms of gameplay) alternatives that don't require their own caliber to be added.

Does carrying a sporter 22 make you a more 'friendly" player

Thats a bug that happened to me with the Amphibia S (chambered) and the sawn-off shotgun as well - however, only one (two in case of the shotgun) of the shots seems to deal real damage - the rest is just "fake".
  18. Especially this one but the other was similiar. Its also not limited to your video - everyone aiming at that one innocent guy you just met seems to be the #1 reason for squad wipe. :D

Does carrying a sporter 22 make you a more 'friendly" player

Tip for finding Sporter 22 magazines: go on a search for pistol mags. Found three 30 round magazines before I found a single pistol magazine (which happened to be for the Amphibia S).
  20. Evil Minion

What items would you kill someone for? An MP5K?

I don't kill for items. If you do and it results in the item in question getting ruined - well done you just met Karma. I would kill in self defense and for knowledge (though I would rather not kill a random player).
  21. Evil Minion

Does carrying a sporter 22 make you a more 'friendly" player

Not really. The Sporter 22 might make you a little more sneaky. If you don't have a magazine you might be any kind of player who just didn't find another weapon. If you do have a magazine you probably visited military loot spawns which in turn means that you might at least consider shooting other players. Then the weapon comes with some natural advantages like low recoil, abundant and easy to carry ammunition and the already mentioned low noise level. Some "bad guys" might find it more appealing than the SKS for this reason.

    The DayZ endgame

Instead of just fighting you could also try to achieve some fairly difficult goals that need a lot of work: map all semi-random locations (like helicopter spawns) on a particular server (exploration)set up a militia and keep a town pieceful (social)set up a trade network (social)light up a town and maintain the lighting (achievement)aquire and maintain a vehicle and use it according to its purpose - vehicles should require a lot of work (achievement)build a base and defend it (achievement)...So endgame content is basically content that requires player interaction - both friendly (cooperation) and hostile (attack/defense). In the end its up to the players but having some technical aspects that require cooperation to be used could make for pretty high goals for some players - which in turn would give others something to attack/destroy/steal - woul help a lot. I am thinking about generators, vehicles and similar things and their maintenance (made some posts in the streetlights and weapon suggestion topics) as well as lego-like building. Keep in mind its still a dark and edgy setting so there will be a lot of setbacks in the form of other players who get their fun from being the villains (or heroes*) trying to stop your projects. If (and only if) it requires enough effort to aquire and maintain them even things like helicopters or tanks are possible within the game without destroying the gameplay. *If you plan to aquire a tank and terrorize the country its hardly a heroic goal and thwarting your effort might be a good thing for most players.
  23. Evil Minion

Would you want working streetlights at night in cities?

Thats the point - its basically "end game content"* that requires cooperation between players to work and keep working. *Missleading term as there is no "end game" in DayZ but its something of the category "what I could achieve if I am all geared up".

    Sudden death

Maybe a sniper hit you? Gunshots are pretty quiet right now so you might only hear the impact if hit from further away.
  25. Evil Minion

    Sudden death

I encountered three different things that might result in sudden death: Gunshots are pretty quiet and sometimes you won't hear them at all. You will only hear the wounding sound and notice the damage. However if a sniper kills you with a single shot you will experience suddenly taking damage and being dead. Zombies have some kind of psychic attack that can hurt you from some distance away and even through walls. Getting hit while low on health (blurry screen) or just often enough will result in death. There is this random leg breaking bug where you suddenly take damage and your legs will become broken. it also ruins your boots and pants as well as any item inside. It doesn't seem to deal damage to the player (I was healthy after it happened to me without blurry or desaturated screen) but maybe it "heals" you after breaking your legs - unless you are low on health and the damage spike kills you right away.
