    Whats your player type?

    Lets bump this because people are talking about the one true way of playing this game again. There are other ways to play the game than your own. This is evidenced by the poll above. Thats why you should stop arguing how the game should be taylored around your playstyle. We need a good mix of features people can work with and not a game specialized in either PvP or PvE.

    I found a rope but it got shot by a random sniper, I didn't even hear the shot. Other than that I found: AKM without any attachments (left it there)High Capacity Vest (took a shot for me but couldn't save aforementioned rope)AK-101 magazine (gave the ammo to a squad I met)Amphibia S magazine (got shot as well)CR527 magazine (in use)

    I was trying to reach a medipack under some car when I heard steps and suddenly someone appeared next to me Mosin ready to fire. I drew my own and we had a little 1m sniper duel. He won because he had the advantage of the first shot (that wasn't deadly but neither was mine). He was probably rested. Items don't make a difference (yet).

    Its not the mod (where it is understandable as most players are Arma 2 players) - and what you wrote is basically the reason why zombies should be a threat. You will always have people who cry because they want the game taylored to their own playstyle - be it "remove zombies, I want to be undisturbed fighting players"-PvP-fanatics or "stop KoS, I want to talk to people and kill zombies without getting killed"-PvE-fans. This tayloring should never happen because it hurts the game by cutting down diversity and will ulitmately only satisfy the player type its taylored around - deadly for an open world game and waste of potential.
  6. Gamespy died. And DayZ is only multiplayer so it doesn't make sense without starting steam (which is also the new MP platform for Arma 2).

    Its also a matter of loot respawn mechanism: Hypothetical algorithm "Mommy" simply replaces looted gear and does not take into account player density or proximity. This directly leads to higher respawn rates and thus more gear on places with high demand (like Berezino) so there is practically no reason for players to go elsewhere as they will find everything around. Spawing areas would have a great number of loot and loot respawns Hypothetical alogrithm "Murphy" spawns gear in areas with low player density and does not spawn any loot in proximity of players. This starves places where demand is high of gear and thus requires players to migrate in search for supplies not unlike grazing animals thus moving active areas elsewhere. Spawning areas would probably feature lower amounts of loot and a lower respawn rate.

    Its actually pretty funny with the current weakling zombies as it sometimes gives you the impression of fighting a swarm of them (plus they can be killed easliy). But having actually durable zombies might make it frustrating - or not if the main issues were to be fixed (making it possible to sneak past them or hide inside buildings). However, I think it should be possible to clear an area from zombies for some time. In the end zombies are as much a part of the game as other players and should not end up as little more than a mild and unchallenging annoyance. Player interaction will stay exciting - maybe even more so - if zombies were an actual threat to other things than your clothing.

    Have the 380.auto been added yet?

    There are Makarov variants in .380 ACP and .380 ACP allows for a higher number of possible weapons so its reasonable to choose it over 9mm Makarov. It surely doesn't make sense to add both cartridges as it would only bloat ammo types making it harder to find the right bullets - otherwise they are pretty similar and usually interchangeable (via weapon variants).

    I want them to be exactly as durable as freshspawns (civilian zombies) or highly geared players (military zombies). This way they would make for much better target practice as they would also show you your weapons damage. Might even help saving some of the current test subjects (freshspawns) for newly aquired weapons. However in this case zombies should not respawn: within a few secondsclose to the place they diedclose to playerswith hyper awareness and long range aggression

    Where have you found larger backpacks?

    Thats the one that shouldn't work anyways because its basically just a long spike. But at least the M9A1 bayonet should get the skinning option. I found both Mountain Backpacks and Hunting Backpacks in military locations (on full servers with nobody around but hordes of zombies :lol: ).

    That probably meant spawning when you join a server. So you can barricade an area and prevent players from spawning inside if they did not log out there.

    Its more about the gameplay aspect - in fact it would be okay if the sling was only for carrying a weapon on your back and would not show up otherwise or provide other functionality. You also don't have to open your backpack and search for an item inside. And those games also have "shotguns" with an effectve range of about two meters. Thats actually a pretty good reason to handle both aspects in a different way. Also keep in mind those games are vastly different in gameplay and focus much more on "fast close quarter action" while disregarding almost everything related to logistics.

The minimum viable setup for me is: an axea knifea backpackany gun with some ammo (crossbow/shortbow counts as gun here)ragsAs the axe and gun currently don't take up space the backpack could be replaced by clothes with a sufficient number of inventory slots (jeans+shirt would probably do it).

    Get rid of the magic weapon slots, add gun slings and I have no problem with two longarms on your back and one in your hands as long as it handicaps you accordingly (movement, sound and fatigue). But with the current magic glue - no way!

    Works just as well: not. The whole purpose of cheating online is to spoil other peoples fun. The only way to deal with cheaters is to remove them swiftly and permanentely as well as repairing the weak point they used for their cheats.

    I would rather keep (meaning its planned to be there) NATO gear limited to semi-random locations because thats what makes it interesting. For bases Chernarussian gear should be used.
  20. On stable which does not work this way yet. I know its the plan for the near future - the point is it helps but doesn't entirely solve the issue. Maybe it turns out my 30-60min are overkill with loot respawns and ~10-20min would be enough - but 100 seconds for all server switches is simply too short. And no, switching servers is not cheating. If anything rapid and frequent change of server is abusal of game mechanics. Especially if you jump between high value loot areas on empty/low pop servers. Compared to playing on a single server its high reward for low effort - increasing the switch time would increase the effort (I know people don't want to wait for 60 minutes - thats the goddamn point!) making actually moving around the map worthwhile. An ideal solution would only hit "rabid hopping" while not affecting the "normal hopping" you described at all. The problem is the distinction. For example a "light" version of my suggestion had 5 minutes server switch time for the first five times and then increases by five minutes for each switch within two hours. In the end you should switch server for meta reasons and not for an easier gameplay.

    Facial expressions

    The problem with this: The whole purpose of facial expressions is to show which emotion is present. Now you cannot really read the mind of the player nor can you tell from whats happening ingame. So the survivors face would end up showing a random emotion instead which kind of defeats the purpose. What I can see working is pain but anger/fear/sympathy/happiness etc. are simply too dependent on the player. As written above a better way to deal with "everyone looks the same" is adding more faces/a face generator of some kind. Naturally some of them will look more friendly while others will look more grumpy. There could also be a "smile" gesture to show others you are happy.

Actually you are fighting over the whole "ingame goals" vs "self set goals" thing when the OP was pretty clear about it: He wants more complex ingame features that could become greater self set goals for geared players or groups of players. Something I agree with and most others seem to agree with. Not things you have to do but things you can do if you want to put quite some effort into them.

    Very likely in fact. Because there are no "hidden world leaders" who planned the whole thing. The apocalypse would hit suddenly and without former warning leaving barely enough time for the "elite" to safe themselves (and probably not even this). So there wouldn't be enough time to secure any belongings let alone greater amounts of valueable resources. This basically leaves a lot of fuel scattered in a world ruled by zombies. Now you would still need to find and secure it (DayZ probably isn't set that far after the apocalypse so there should be usable reserves) - not easy but possible given you are resourceful enough to prevail. Surely nothing for a single freshspawn on the coast but for a highly geared cooperating group of skilled survivors. However, like any bigger goal the implementation would need to see the basics first - most of which most players won't associate with vehicles and cars at all.
