Written Notes Need a Different Graphic, now more than ever

I think notes should not open a text editor. Instead you should just be able to draw things on them like using Paint. More flexible and realistic. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Evil Minion replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
They are bugged, yes (less bugged than two patches before though). That doesn't make them op - they are still pathetically weak and stupid. Right now they are reduced to annyoing gear destructors when you should worry more about your health in my opinion. Maybe make them deal less damage to equipment but increase their health to survivor levels (yes thats probably my #1 wish regarding zombies) and fix the mentioned issues. -
Thats not the same. In terms of weapons it more similar to the sawnoff shotgun and Obrez - when you can obtain them you already got a more effective weapon (shotgun and Mosin respectively) and the additional resource (hacksaw) is just a waste. Still in this case you got slightly higher dexterity and less inventory space (which is actually a joke as rifles got a free slot anyways). Anyways you could still use them as secondary equipment - but you will only ever have a single backpack at any given time so the old versions would just be harder to obtain while less effective. Civilian and hunting weapons on the other side are not crafted from the same materials as military weapons - sure you might find more effective weapons but you have to find them first and the might be much rarer. Now compare the leather sack and the leather courier bag: Leather Sack: - needs leather (which in turn needs a knife) - needs a knife (you got this as you got leather) - 20 slots Leather Courier Bag - needs leather (which in turn needs a knife) - needs a rope (can be quite difficult to find and is usually one-time use) - 16 slots - can be upgraded to a 25 slot backpack using sticks Now sticks are fairly common and you can make sticks whenever you have a knife (cut kindlings). So the leather backpack costs more (one rope and possibly knife usage) and gives you an additional 5 slots - seems okay to me. However the courier bag needs the same resources than the leather sack and more while being less effective overall - the only tradeoff is not being able to upgrade into an improvised backpack. So by increasing the capacity to 25 it makes the courier bag more costly at less efficiency. As you can choose freely* instead of having to play the cards you got (guns work that way) there is no reason ever to add a rope to your leather instead of just cutting it up. I think if you have such free choices* either option should have its advantages otherwise the "weaker" choice is just fake or a "noob trap". Thats one of the reason why I consider 3rd person a design flaw, You rob yourself of the option to balance things around the field of vision which cuts down your tactical design options. Now I would still like to include this because I like to play on First Person servers anyways - but it might cause serious balance issues on Third Person servers. Now balance is only really needed if having free choices* so it might still be okay if done right (e.g. not making it possible to craft a vision obstructing but otherwise better item and a weaker not obstructing item out of the same resources). *Free choices are situations where having option A always gives you option B as well. Then in order for option A to be a reasonable choice it should have its advantages over option B. Otherwise option A is not really an option but simply a trap. Note that option B being "worse" is not an issue as long as you have situations where you can choose B but cannot choose A.

You should not judge purely by size. Its probably also a matter of stability - thats why boar skin holds more than burlap even if its the same design. Now the Leather Sack lacks the stability gained from rope and sticks and thats why it should have lower capacity. Also from a gameplay perspective you do not want a backpack that is easier to make and needs less resources to be just as good as a more elaborate one. Given you most likely got a knife when you aquire skin it needs even less resources than the Courier Bags while allowing for more storage. So its already "too good".

What? DayZ always was cans everywhere! Where did you play last patch?

First post? Check. Rant? Check. Not realizing its an Alpha test instead of a finished game? Check. Use of unnecessary pessimistic phrases? Check. Not understanding how devolpment works? Check. Do I want to answer in detail? No. Please check some other topics or read that disclaimer popping up when you start the game.

Patch notes should REALLY be more descriptive.

Consoles... How They Will Ruin DayZ
Evil Minion replied to DaPrincePlays's topic in General Discussion
The only actual reason why this would be bad. Can easily solved by... not including autoaim (at least on cross-platform servers). As you wrote using a controller (can be done by every kid playing on PC as well) gives you some advantages but the downside is a pretty difficult aim - and here you might have other options than including auto-aim. Or you just leave it this way so its easier to do most things but a little harder to fire aimed shots. Autoaim would actually break the game on multiple levels (aiming, camouflage, friendly fire, quickdraw etc.) - in my opinion it should not be in any DayZ version. -

I think weapon balance is not final yet so I think this is not to stay. They probably copy-pasted the values from similar weapons just like they copy-pasted the sound for the CR527 from the Mosin. Apparently other weapons have the same thing going on right now (for example the M4 should deal less damage than the AK101 with higher recoil, less sway and a higher turn rate). SKS and CZ527 will be tricky here as one the former has a longer barrel but the latter is bolt action (which means its bullet uses the maximum amount of gas pressure while the SKS needs to hold back a portion for reloading). I am optimistic this will be changed in the future but right now the focus is probably less on gun balance. However, the .357 Magnum will still be significantly slower than the other rifle bullets - its just the round. -
The poll is confusing and incomplete. I can't tell whether voting on the first question means "should spawn more often" or "should spawn less often". Also if I wanted pistols and their magazines to spawn more often while keeping ammo rarity the same - how should I vote on the second question?

Crowbar and Beseball Bat are quite effective melee weapons in real life - their strength in DayZ is seriously underrepresented. A guitar one the other side... is not. It simply lacks the weight (distribution) is clumsy to wield and might even break if hitting the target. However, it might make noises while doing so. I still like it - but it should be failry weak.

Because you are meant to travel and have some progress towards the "better" loot spawns. Also you don't want people to spawn close to military bases for example. People logging in there is bad enough (but unavoidable). The spawns being concentrated to one area makes the gameplay more interesting - especially once people stop staying there because of loot respawns. You can always use those feet you got. Way better than having (un)lucky spawns next to a military base. But you are right about players spawns being the cause of evil: They spawn players and players in DayZ are evil thus you are right.

There are some types of "body armor" in game (Anti-stab Vests, Press Vests and even Assault Vests provide some protection). The "specialist weapons" you encountered were probably standard weapons outfitted with some special attachments like: AKM with drum magazine (might be perceived as LMG)AKM/AK101 with PSO-1 Scope (might be perceived as DMR)Mosin with Long range Scope (might be perceived as Sniper Rifle)

How? Either you meet them - then its obviously available in the SA version - or its not available in the SA version - then you obviously can't meet them. What stuff do you mean specifically?

Those are good idea even though I think crawler zombie removal is a little harsh. Just scratch that "remove or" and you have my support here. I think zombie respawns - just like loot respawns - should work by making them respawn in areas with low player density and they should never respawn in a certain radius around players. You realize that majors parts or "new content" have nothing to do with the fixes above and often they are done by completely different people. There is no reason not to add the work of artists, animators etc. only because programmers are busy fixing an important issue. Also some problems might be linked to optimization - which makes more sense after the core mechanics are implemented. After all development is rarely a linear process.

Poncho is in the lead right now. The poll will stay until Sunday and is to be replaced with a jacket poll. So if you haven't voted but got a favorite (or unfavorite) please cast your vote! -
"Is stalking a cowards technique?" asked the zebra. "Of course it is!" the wildebeest answered "Only noobs camp water holes hiding inside bushes."

I wanted to meet up with a friend at some deer stand somewhere between Gorka and Grishino. I was first and decided to secure the area by climbing up and looking around. When my friend finally arrived I wanted to climb down but the first step of the ladder broke and I fell to my death.

What about keeping the military bases and airfields - that by their own add to the gameplay - and limiting server hopping - which if done excessively hurts the gameplay - instead?

2172km? Wow, thats greater than the distance between Moscow and Amsterdam. Seems like Chernarus is not so Eastern Europe after all.

Take the test! I expect something like Spade/Diamond for hermits.

Sadly it is. There are so many games that would be better without but decided to allow it. DayZ SA is one of them though fortunately we got quite a lot first person only servers.

Complete change of the weapons Accesory system
Evil Minion replied to gibonez's topic in Suggestions
Thats basically the point. If you can feel what an attachment does it feels more authentic and less like being at mercy of the random number god. For example instead of "Crit Chance +10%, Miss Chance -10%" you got reduced sway you actually notice. It gives you immediate feedback and not some passive bonus you would only notice in the final results. -
