    Npc Bandits

There are places with a vastly higher chance of meeting others. Towns and bases in the west are prime targets for everyone who looks for high value loot and because the east coast is the only are where people can spawn so you will meet both freshspawns and killers over there. Right now the combination of overabundant loot and server hopping make roads and the villages in central Chernarus poorly populated so don't go there if you want action. Best places are: Berezino (One does not simply survive in Berezino.) Northwest Airfield Novodmitrovsk Svetlojarsk Elekrozavodsk Balota (subject to change)

    Cruel Joke or What?

When I decided to try fishing and I found a fishing hook I was happy and started looking for a rope. Sadly stupid me stored the hook in my pants. While searching an industrial site - BAM leg breaking bug. Even though it only caused pain (is it possible that being healthy greatly reduces your chance of breaking your legs this way?) it ruined my pants and the hook in it. I wandered the map searching for a replacement and even found one. But no rope. Hours of travel later I finally found one in a garage in Stary Sobor (or Kabanino - not exactly sure). Having learned from my previous mistake I put both in my vest and looked for Ashwood trees. I searched the west without much success so I decuded to move north. At Devils Castle I was attacked by a bunch of zombies and killed them and ate something. I did not even hear the shot but I am pretty sure it was a Mosin. My screen went grey and blurry. As I did not hear where the shot was coming from I just fled. Finally having found a place to rest I lokked what damage had be done - vest, jacket, backpack and most contents where ruined. I went to the place that would later be Severograd and restarted my search moving south. When I finally found all ingredients I was in Msta (thats where I chopped the Ashwood tree) and could start fishing at last. Nowadays I find ropes, fishing hooks, axes and Ashwood trees in abundance. I even found a hacksaw, used it to open my cans and dropped it in favor of a machete (somewhere in West-Elektro on a UK or GER First Person server - maybe its still there).

    Reskin the Russian Calibers

I don't see the reason. A different case will not help casuals to identify cartridges. A different arrangement on the other side might help - see pistol calibers. Also the names are probably the greatest source of confusion - thats why 7.62x51mm NATO should be called .308 Winchester instead. This helps players much more than recoloring the cases. For example using something like this as model should work quite fine without any change to the current 7.62x54mmR model. One could even rename the 7.62x39mm ammo into 7.62x39 Soviet or M43 Soviet just to make the difference more apparent by name.
  4. It seems like gibonez is not a fan of re-chambering or using less common variants that have the right caliber. Probably dislikes the AK-101 and Makarov in .380 Auto as well. Adding 7.62x25mm would probably not add to the game because it just another pistol round that only allows for a few old guns. I would rather like to see some .45 APC submachine gun (but they should fix the damage first - right now it hurt like the .357 Magnum when it should be barely stronger than 9mm). Talking about .308 Winchester vs. 7.62x54mmR - the .308 Winchester on its own is potentially a little weaker than the 7.62x54mmR, meaning if you fill them "to the max" the NATO round would be less powerful. Now as you wrote it depends on the bullet in question so its absolutely fine if both were equal or even if .308 Winchester was more powerful.

    Feedback on CR527?

Right, there should be additional weapon parameters: ballistic: a multiplicator to bullet speed and damageweight: a modificator to sway (increasing) and recoil (slightly decreasing)Attachments should also affect sway and recoil instead of dispersion (exception: muzzle attachments should affect dispersion and recoil). Given the listed bullet damage handguns should have a ballistic value of <1 and (long) rifles should have a ballistic value of >1 - with carbines and maybe (bigger) submachine guns having values ~1.

    People's thoughts on hip firing?

Hip firing has the issue that you cannot see your sway - so you basically got a huge boost in dispersion that makes you miss over greater distances.

Today Marks My Characters first death

Your characters first death? Mine never make it to a second. You were the guy in orange clothes who attacked me with an axe in Novo?

    People's thoughts on hip firing?

Hip firing virtually turns you into a Soviet mook right out of 1980s Hollywood action films.

    Feedback on CR527?

According to this list thats true right now. Sadly the AKM and FNX45 are plain superior to any of their competitors (and .45 APC is too strong - should be ~7.5 instead of 9). I hope thats subject to change though. CR527: hard to find magazinesno attachmentsless damage/accuracy than Mosinassaullt rifle grade dexterity (sadly its a bolt action that can't make much use of it)
  10. When speaking of ammo I see the chance of the following cartridges to be added: .308 Winchester - Splitting 7.62mm was said to be planned and I think it will come at this name to better avoid confusion with 7.62x54mmR and 7.62x39mm rounds. It opens up the possibilties for several western weapons (both military and civilian) and allows for two strains of full power rifles which leads to reduced competition and thus more usability without making the a single kind of ammunition too prevalent..50 BMG or 12.7x108mm - Those cartridges have the advantage that they can be used for both HMGs and AMRs in contrast to more specialized rounds like the .338 Lapua Magnum. Now for the big guns competition is wanted and the ammo should be sparse anyways so it makes sense to concentrate on a single kind and have some additional competition. So if one of those two is added the probability of the other being ingame as well should drop close to zero.9x39mm - Allows for some special guns, now its a little less likely to be added but might work as a rare gun/rare ammo combination and here it has the advanatge of allowing for multiple weapons each of which is plausible to find in Chernarus, Now that does not mean they are likely to find as they are mainly special forces equipment. But if there was a "special cartridge" to be added I would bet on this.5.45x39mm - Same argument as for .308 Winchester but a little weaker. It allows two strains of small caliber assault rifles and LMGs with potential civilian models as well - however this cartridge is more limited and mostly found on AK platforms. Now AK platforms are highly plausible in Chernarus but I am not sure if it really benefits gameplay to add it or if its more healthy to pass on the RPK-74 and further AK-74 variants and stick with/expand on 5.56mm NATO.40mm grenades - There are some pictures that suggest they are coming, now its not quite clear if only one type or multiple types. Probably multiple types that are very rare so you need to find both the launcher and the right type of grenade. At the rarity level I expect them to be there won't be that much effect of competition as finding the luncher should be hard enough. Now the RPG-7 falls under this and I think its very likely we will see this weapon at some point (probably when the bigger vehicles are about to enter the game).I expect the chances for having other other types of ammo added to be pretty slim (save for some kinds of explosives). With the types above there are simply enough options to add a similar and plausible variant or weapon that uses existing ammo - with the notable exception of hand-cannons but thats a pretty specialized and overrated weapon category that might not be added at all (we are in a former Soviet state and not in Texas) - I think thats why Alexei decided not to add them in the first place. Now I could be wrong but in the end adding too many cartridges would cause either extensive search to find any matching rounds or ammo being way to abundant once you found the right weapon because of low competition. That does not mean "stop suggesting other weapons" but rather "keep in mind they will probably switch to similar designs".
  11. I would say yes .- but all those items are already on the list (not the sports bra, but there is a general bra).
  12. Its not about "PvP balance" but about a realistic representation. And in reality there is a small difference that should be represented ingame because its one of the reasons the weapons are in some kind of equilibrium. And its the reason we got bullpup weapons instead of everyone using carbines. Minimal differences should still be implemented and not scrapped because they are minor (in some situations they might matter after all) - but they should not be overexaggerated either. Weapons should get some kind of "ballistic modificator" that increases damage and bullet speed. The biggest reason why I think we need it is the .357 Magnum cartridge - because the revoler and the rifle should not deal the same damage. However it can also be applied for other weapons and I propose to use this instead of making them the typical FPS "copycat weapons" that only look different but behave the same for balance reasons. DayZ is about playing the cards you got so there is no need for this.

    What about the ''MODERN BOW''

This - bring all the awesome stuff but make it rare, hard to maintain and not the goal for everyone to get it. Also the gear should be realisti/believeable. So even a compound bow with tacticool attachemnts wouldn't be that powerful or accurate - in fact the Crossbow should be better in both regards (but the bow might fire much faster). Now add to this that modern sports bows are probably rather impractical weapons as their are taylored around standing still and firing at defined targets. In the end rarity (in some rural country - how many people would own a sports bow?) and the fact that it stays an ancient weapon design (which has its limitations) would probably cause the weapon to be mid tier at best (low tier performance but rare and can craft ammo). I would like to see it if the loot economy is introduced but not in high numbers and not in a unrealistic powerful way.

    Long coats

I am not saying that there was a poll not long ago that (amongst similar things) asked people whether they wanted a Longcoat/Poncho or not. But there was such a vote - until it was replaced by a poll on jackets. So refrain from starting a topic whether people want a Suit Jacket in game or not and vote there.

    Four Flavors of DayZ

I guess a good mix of player types (which means no hackers) is probably the most enjoyable. "Heroic" players are in need of someone to help or something to set right, "villainous" players are in need of victims and "social" players benefit from a wide variety of interactions. Also having only "social" players would probably reduce the game to some kind of advanced chatroom that lacks some of the more exciting elements. My own playstyle is something of a lone wolf who cooperates temporarily. However when shot at/attacked I enter "deathmatch mode" - which might potentially endanger people who just happened to be there as well.

    Wooden Bows

Ropes and Ashwood trees aren't really that rare if you know where to look and don't get that unlucky. Maybe adding a craftable type of rope would help as well. Now axes are more common than guns and knifes are quite common as well (especially machetes it sems). The only real problem right now is getting feathers which is too hard compared to finding ammo. So if you only look at ranged weapons the Shortbow is indeed the most prevalent one. But the ammo is not.

    Change the walk up hills!

It definitely has if done right and has nothing to do with casual players (at least in this kind of game). It stops players from doing bullshit like sprinting all the time or running aross the map like mad. You are not supposed to sprint from Svetlojarsk to the Airfield in a straight line. You are supposed to slowly make your path west while playing and surviving while doing so. Casual players will take longer for this than people who put a lot of effort into it but they won't be punished. Less effort - less reward. You can still play the game just fine because its not about getting those rewards, let alone getting those rewards as quickly as possible. A player who demands to get full power for minor effort and cries when others put time/effort into something and are rewarded for it is not a casual player but a prick.

There Are no Vegetables in DayZ.

No, its just that the word "vegetable" makes no real sense. Its just an arbitray collection of plant parts that can be eaten. For example "fruit" and "vegetable" are not mutually exclusive.

    Will tents last through 0.49?

I highly doubt that tents or other storage would persist after a character wipe. Because that would defeat the purpose of said wipe.
  22. They will manage if they want to. But if they decide to wait and update later its fine.

    Raiders Leather Jacket vs Zombie

Clothes in general should be more resistant to damage when worn. There is no way you would completely ruin a shirt by making a bullet hole into it. In exchange ruined clothing should either randomly lose items or just lose its storage capacity completely and repairing clothes should be a little harder (you need to find the right materials first). So yes, a zombie should damage this jacket - very, very little.
  24. Evil Minion

Motorcycle and equipment needs to be added first.

The motorcycle equipment currently serves more as melee-resistant clothing. So it has its uses (was saved twice by my helmet last game). Bikes are confirmed but I am not sure if the focus is on vehicles or horticulture for now. Personally I would rather like a more involved vehicle system that gets released later than a far too simple one that gets released next week. Got a poll running right now.
