"I'm not going to shoot you"

That kid was actually telling the truth. Nobody said anything about being friendly.

Looking for Friendly 24h Daytime server

"Friendly" in server name is another word of "victim bait". There you will find people hoping for a friendly environment - and players who enjoy killing them and hear them complain. Just join any server that does not have anything about "PvP" in its description (those are definitely not friendly) and hope for the best. As for 24h daytime - its a plague. Nobody ever plays 24 hours a day let alone more than four on a single server (not counting rejoins). All those 24h daytime servers do is starving people who want to play at night of the opportunity to do so. If you want to play during daytime just pick a server that offers plenty of time until dusk - no need to search for daytime only servers, they just offer plain less gameplay options.

Is it to easy to gear up?

This kind is the majority of servers I play on. Usually high population - I only join low population if a server restart kicks me out while inside a high yield area because I do not want to be spawnkilled. For the results... see above (though this one might have been a 2 or 3 hour restart server - not entirely sure). Gear progression can be helped by a dynamic loot respawn system (taking into account player density and server population) as well as rarity-based loot management. This way the progress originates in the game dynamics - high value gear will be picked first leaving only low value gear in populated areas and mid value gear in other parts. So as a freshspawn you would have to live with the scraps others (including yourself before you died) left for you. When making your way to better loot areas you will find progressively better gear (as less people would have been there before and their average gear status would be higher) and if you got lucky you would even end up with a few high value parts. Getting fully geared out would require you to get very lucky, search for a very long time or take it from others. Thats why I think spawning at the (east) coast is a good thing - you will have some natural progress simply by moving away from spawn areas for reasons mentioned above. At the moment those dynamics create an interesting effect on the SKS vs. Sporter 22. Spawning in the east both are quite easy to find but the Sporter requires a magazine freshspawns have no hope to find. So you pick the SKS and if you are lucky you even find some rounds. However making your way to the west you will find Soviet ammo taken by the increasing demand of AKM players while .22 rounds and Sporter magazines will be much more common. So for your own personal midgame its often worthwhile to pick up a Sporter 22 as your SKS will run dry and later replace it with an assault rifle. Creating the right progress is a matter of economics, ecology and statistics. And thats probably the reason behind the central loot management they want to add. However, for this to work they would also need to deal with excessive server hopping as a way to "cheat away" the efforts to find high value gear.

Is it to easy to gear up?

Cernaya Polana - but I did not find an AKM magazine for over an hour thereafter. The AKM was inside a wrecked UAZ on the junkyard.

Is it to easy to gear up?

I found the following within 20 minutes of respawning: a Firefighter Axetwo bags of ricecountless soda canscountless fruitcountless cans of food (which I ignored because I had nothing to open it and plenty of other food)countless Wool Coats and Shirtsa green Hoodiea Motorbike Helmeta Taloon backpackan Assault VestGorka Military Pantstwo flaresan AKMa box of 7.62x39mm roundstwo boxes of 7.62x54mmR roundsa SKSIf I had found a AKM magazine as well I would have considered myself highly geared. So yes - loot is way too easy to find right now. Add server hopping and it becomes trivial.

Whats your favorite location on the map?

With the current loot spawns and cities my favorite locations changed to Cernaya Polana and Zelenogorsk. Relative to the value of loot you will find those locations are surprisingly save.

    The Repeater

I think it will find its place. But right now its like a weaker and rarer Mosin that requires additional effort (finding a magazine) and cannot take any attachments. It also has the disadvantage of sharing ammo with the currently best weapon ingame (AKM) that also happens to be quite common (found mine ~10 minutes after respawning), has more common and bigger magazines and is just plain better than the CR527. The repeater on the other side will probably feature a tubular magazine and (if chambered in .357 Magnum) only compete with the revolver. So I expect it to fill a similar role as a practical low/mid tier weapon probably in a role somewhere between Mosin and SKS.
  8. Evil Minion

    The Repeater

.357 Magnum - at least thats what the offcial statements say (as well as this list). Now the official statements also said the CZ527 would be 5.56mm NATO...

What Video content do you look for in DayZ videos?

I like shorter edited videos more than long gameplay footage. Squadplay might be longer but it should be First Person. Watching wall peeking is not enjoyable at all and makes me feel stupid.

    Ladder glitch?

There are two glitches a "positive" and a negative one. The first allows for climbing ldders that are on the other side of a wall just like you can open and close doors through walls as well. The second probably happens when you get desynced right after entering a ladder. Your character basically lets go and falls down - potentially to his/her death. This one seems to be far less common than it used to be - last time it happened to me was shortly after 0.46 hit (I was shooting zombie hordes from a deer stand).

    Reduce fall damage.

You are always ready to join a high-pop server (unless you got kicked by one of those goddamn restarts while standing in the middle of a popular area) in fact getting geared before this actually makes you less ready because you adopt a "I must spend a lot of time for gearing up before I can finally get to play" mindset. Also it makes you way more attached to your gear because you got it by (boring) farming instead of getting it as some kind of reward during gameplay. But back to falling: Its completely reasonable that any fall of >1m might lead to injuries (in game: damage). It depends on your "readiness" and thats something a game cannot grasp. We do not die from falling a ridiculous low height. We die from already being very weak when we fall a ridiculous low height. Now leg breaking probably happens a little too easy - especially on soft ground. But truth be told most of the times my charcater broke his/her legs it was quite authentic or one of the following: getting hit by a zombie (breaking legs by basically punching/tackling them?)the random bug that ruins your pants and shoes and may break your legs
  12. Evil Minion

How did you die the first time?

I spawned north of Berezino (which I didn't know at this point) and went to the opposite direction until I encountered a ship wreck. So I decided to look around. Almost immediately I found a child briefcase and made by way upstairs picking up clothing and eating drinking the things I found. At the top I looked around and then went exploring the ship. What I found was some additional loot - and that the central part of the ship had no hitbox. So I fell to my untimely death.

    Lock Vertical FOV

Thats the point. You get the same vertical FoV and the horizontal FoV adjusts to your resolution. This way you won't be able to zoom in/out via FoV setting as its the same height and a higher FoV just adds additional vision to the sides. You cannot simply set a fixed horizontal FoV as this depends on screen and platform - furthermore playing with the "wrong FoV" (mainly if its too small) causes unhealthy side effects like a headache or worse.

    "Special build" at PAX Prime?

That may be the reason why experimental is not updated yet. Its probably just 0.49 and not some super advanced omgwtf build.
  15. Evil Minion

    Whats your player type?

Lets add a picture: May not be 100% accurate but I think it suits the most typical DayZ players.
  16. Evil Minion

    Is this rumour true?

As there was the bug of firing only one pellet they temporarily fixed it by applying the whole damage on it basically changing "buckshot" to some kind of superpowered slug. If they fixed the issue they would reduce the damage per ball back to normal (slightly less than 9mm round damage) but you would fire multiple balls resulting in the shotguns advantage: a higher chance to hit over short and medium distances as well as still significant damage by firing multiple projectiles at once.
  17. I am getting increasingly annoyed by all those X hours restart 24/7 daylight servers out there. Half of them kick you without any warning and almost no server offers a longer duration where you can just play the game. Also skipping nighttime is annoying as I would like to play on populated servers see the sunset keep playing after dusk generally see other light than afternoon sunNow I can understand if people don't want to play at night but you can do this by simply picking a server where dusk is far and stop playing after dark just like people go to bed at night. Now skipping nighttime is a stupid feature in my opinion as it simply robs people of the chance of playing at night, makes more people play during daytime that would be active at night and changes loot dynamics. For me the perfect server setup would be: a constant time flow (no speed change, set when the server goes online for the first time*)no timeskipping at all:not skipping night timenot skipping any daylight hoursafter restart time is forced to the time when the server went downserver restarts only on ingame midnightNow restart should not add or remove any loot and if crash sites etc. are moved they should still keep the old state (so a recently looted crashsite will still be a recently looted crashsite after restart) to avoid having an artificial "early bird advantage" for playing right after midnight. I think the best calibration would be: real life timeflow (1 minute in real life = 1 minute ingame)ingame time should be based on real time where the server is located minus 6 hours (so it would be noon/afternoon when most people are active and restarts would happen when least people are active)How do you feel about server setups? Does anyone like frequent restarts? What do you think about time skipping? Am I the only one thinking this way? *For the first time might include going online after a new update. Thats when setting server time and speed should be possible.

    Dayz SA vehicle info/feedback

I think vehicles should be hard to get and maintain but potentially powerful and customizable. I hope there is some effort required to get them working and even more to get them working for a longer period of time. I would not like to see every freshspawn driving around - instead getting a vehicle should be harder than getting geared or simply surviving. It should be worth it/advisable to cooperate with others if you want a vehicle. Now lone wolves should still be able to get and maintain vehicles but it should require effort and taking risks (thats how lone wolving should be in general). In terms of military vehicles I am completely fine with almost everything - as long as it comes with realistic difficulties. Your tank would be very hard to find, need a lot of stuff to get running, require a whole crew to operate and eat away fuel faster than you can say "crap - we ran dry". Helicopters should be similar but replace the crew with quite difficult controls that would need a skilled pilot. In short: I want vehicles as medium to high level reward, potentially cooperative.
  19. There are ways to stop excessive server hopping though. There are even ways to stop server hopping completely but those would probably cause more damage than use. But please stop stating that "there is no way to stop server hopping" - its wrong, not at all constructive and might even sound like a justification. Server hopping itself (meaning switching from one server to another to look for gear) isn't even the problem - its how fast and easy it is right now. Attach a cost and it will be harder, making the use of ingame routes more attractive. But the real issue with survival is the unfinished loot system: there should be less loot in generalloot should spawn away from players on the same serverhigher population servers should have a higher loot spawn rate than lower population servers (with empty servers getting "frozen")there should be more effects that require you to look for (quality) supplies (like sickness, gear wearing down etc.)(maybe) a reduction in stomach capacity would cause players to look for food more often (instead of stuffing themselves once and living on for days)Now I am positive this will be addressed - but its arguably a game balance issue so don't expect it to happen in alpha.

    Death flys

I think scavangers (zombies or animals) should also destroy worn gear while feeding.

    Server Time Setup and Restarts

Its not about forcing players to play at night. Its about reducing server restart intervals and making them consistent in time. Basically incorporating the fact that most players prefer playing during daytime. And using it for kicking only a few players on restart while making restarts more predictable ingame. And of course to give players the chance to play it hard and scary without the need of dedicated servers. The setup written above should ensure that most casuals play during daytime anyways. Its just the servers that should not be allowed to cheat away nighttime.

    next update

Thats basically the announcement: Most other things you will read are probably only wild mass guessing. The wipe will come if those things are fixed so probably when they deside to push the update containing them to stable. Might be next update might be later - I think even the devs are not exactly sure until right before the update. So basically: When its done! Another guess: They won't wipe before they fixed duping etc. as the effect would be minimal and only lead to (unfounded) player complaints.

Practise controls in the main menu

Yes please! Being able to see all this is why I started playing the game on Third Person servers. It would be awesome to learn the controls without being at the mercy of some Third Person peekers.

Lower 'stuffed' threshold/ reversal of loot locations

At first I was like - me it would just make it harder to get to healthy state. Then I realized making it harder to get to healthy state is a good thing. Instead of just having to find a bag of rice and a well you would need to invest more time and carry some of this food with you. Which makes getting to healthy a greater achievement. Because of this I dislike the second part - always healing would readuce the practical use of being energized and hydrated which in turn has the opposite effect. Instead the healing effects (both blood and health) should be a reward you have to work on - so yes to a smaller stomach. I disagree with the "place XY should already been picked clean" argumnent and think this should depend on the players actions instead of some mysterious former inhabitants. With proper loots spawning this would be the consequence anyways as everyone would look for gear there. But I would like loot spawns to be more specialized. You should not find tons of food, medical supply, tools etc. in military buildings. Instead you should have to visit residential areas for them. Buildings with a high chance of sapwning weapons should have a low chance of spawning food, hospitals and clincs should spawn medical supplies but less of other types and so on. Right now "looting a town" is more like "move straight for police and fire stations" as you will find almost everything there.
