I Give up... I really want my money back.

Its a place where server hoppers go to gear up before they enter populated servers with vastly superior equipment terrorizing other players. If you even find yourself on such a server make sure to kill as many players as possible - you are doing the game a favor. PvP is a part as central as survival. A "Friendly" server basically takes the game and attempts to dumb it down. Stay away from there as you will find only looters who later go pure PvP on other servers (so in a certain light friendly servers are "giving weapons to terrorists" for free), pure souls who really expect friendly gameplay - and the killers hunting those poor souls for fun and bathing in their tears (works with the looters as well). And as a final mockery of "Friendly" the last group is probably the most beneficial for the game as whole. The tips I can give to any new player: When starting the game: join a First Person server (avoids campers to spot you over and around walls and you will get used to the perspective without getting used to worse gameplay)that says nothing about "friendly", "PvE" etc. in its title (for reasons above, and even if it works you will only experience a part of the game, creating a wrong impression)that says nothing about "PvP" either (pure PvP dumbs down the game just as much as pure PvE)that has long restart times (so you can play longer before having to reconnect or search a new one)that is not a daylight server (daylight is bullshit and completely unnecessary - if you want to play during daytime join a server in the morning or around noon)that has a reasonably high population (low population servers are generally less fun and create a wrong impression of the game)get used to dying a lot (the point of the game is to avoid death - so whats the point in making this an overl easy task?)don't be too trusting and keep your guard up (many people are out to murder you for various reasons)don't be too paranoid and avoid killing everyone* on sight (many people are not ourt to murder you for various reasons)stay away from Berezino and the Northwest Airfield*Note thats "everyone" not "anyone" - there are people who are obviously up to no good and its sometimes better to just kill them before they can kill you. If you follow those tips you will most likely grow into a player who actually plays the game instead of some poor soul that loots up on one server without interaction, joins a high population server for action, gets killed by a wall peeking sniper and reenters anti-social-loot-mode while missing most of the gameplay.
  2. I would rather define "end game" as the point where you stop gearing up for utility reasons meaning you got everything you need for your particular playstyle. So basically the point where you can admit that you don't need any more gear. A lone wilderness survivor might enter endgame after getting: a backpackan axea knifean Ashwood bowa quiver of arrowsa box of matchesa few ragsSo endgame gear should be "Whatever you need before you concentrate on something else than gearing up". For my particular playstyle this would be: a backpackclothes (better civilian or military)a vestan axea knifea gun with magazines if it needs thema few piles of ammo for this guna box of medical suppliesa box of matchesa canteena few ragsa sewing kita flashlight of any sort

    Character reset :(

Seems like some things have changed - sprinting while crouched does not sound like a whole squad anymore.

    Ingame map

It would be interesting to have some randomized features like wells (reduce their number and randomize amongst their current locations) showing up on the maps - this way having a map actually gives you an advantage (other than being able to add things on your own). People without a map might have no idea where to go. People using the online map would know possible locations of wells or special buildings but only the ingame map shows their actual positions. Less static elements like police cars or helicopter crashes should not be shown of course but I can see it working together with a well/special building randomization system.

    Character reset :(

What wipe? It doesn't really make sense to wipe without the bugfixes.
  6. Because those weapons would - if added - supplement the M4A1 at helicopter crash sites. Now helicopter crash sites are already pretty rare and I don't think the magazines should be found there in abundance and they should not be found elsewhere. So having different magazines makes it even harder to find the right ones while also somewhat reducing competition between those weapons in terms of magazines. Having them use the same magazines instead would keep the same dynamics just adding more variety for the basic weapon platform.

The day I found 33 grenades! EPIC video!

That wall peeking sniper. And if you add grenades to the equation it just gets stupid brutal. And they called the first person servers hardcore...

    Penalised for jumping server?

I am all for some penalty for server hopping (or rather a cost attached to excessive switching) but character reset is by no means appropriate. I think no "penalty" for server hopping should do lasting damage by itself but it should rather cause temporary inconvenience depending on the number of switches. I am pretty sure this isn't a anti-hopping measure here. Of all the many discussed ideas resetting your character is probably the worst - unless someone suggested perma-banning offenders. You either switched to a different hive (First Person/Third Person), died in between switches (your survivor is still on the server for 30s after logout) or ran into that bug that seems to wipe your character. In the last case immediate switching to another server helps sometimes (this bug should be fixed before tackling server hopping).

    Z's all over me!

At first I thought it would be better if you could clear a city of zombies and be done with it for quite some time. However this would probably end up in two ways: there are a few lonely zombies easily killed (no challenge, easymode) there are tons of zombies stalking the city (impacts performance)Now I would like to have the second one but without heavy performance loss we might get not there any time soon. But I also think you should be able to clear an area of zombies. So instead I propose a hybrid: Ending streams of zombies: There are quite some zombies in the city but not too many. Each city/area also got a value that represents the number of allowed zombie respawns. If a zombie is killed and there are respawns available he/she is spawned outside a certain area around players, preferably out of sight and non-aggro'ed. And one respawn ticket is removed upon death. Of course if the tickets reach zero or negative values no zombies will respawn but death will still remove another one. Respawn tickets slowly regenerate when the player count inside the city/area is below a certain threshold. Now the maximum zombie count should be limited by the server instead of each city/area separately. So a zombie who died in one city and did not get a ticket here may respawn in another city if there is a ticket and the maximum number of spawned zombies in this area (which should be fairly large - in total much higher than the server limit) is not reached. This way zombie population is higher in untouched areas and lower in areas with a high survivor count (which should mirror loot respawns). Conversely if a city just reached a positive number of tickets it might still not spawn zombies yet as they could be alive and well elsewhere. Finally something that should matter later: Zombies should never spawn inside barricaded areas but they should be able to spawn inside houses. TL:DR: Zombie respawn should work via a ticket-system in each area, number limited serverside and respawns should happen at some distance to players.

    Character customization?

A framework for easy import of faces or a character generator that produces believable faces with animation takes quite some effort so they better start early. At least with the designs. Then you can go over to step by step implementation during beta.
  11. While I think hacks should be stopped as soon as possible, I must say no to this. It does not really make sense to halt everything because of a hack (reminds me of a teacher who stops talking when a student disrupts the lesson) and having for example artists working on a fix as well does not really make sense. However the people responsible for this part of the game should do whatever they can.
  12. In 20 gauge vs. .410 bore I would root for the the .410 bore simply because there is a greater difference between it and 12 gauge in both actual shooting (thus gameplay) and name. Telling the difference shouldn't be a problem anyways as you could just have 20 gauge shells in yellow and .410 bore is much thinner than both. However I think adding both would be too much - while I would like to have two separate shotgun strains three would probably be too much. The 12 gauge strain might consist of higher power low to mid tier weapons while the .410 bore strain could be a shared low tier (small game hunting) and high tier (automatic shotguns like the Saiga 410) category.

DayZ SA - Rules/Tips to Survival (Survival Tips)

While there are some useful tips I think the presentation needs work. You basically talk about the game with some music and video in the background nothing of which is really linked. Two ways that might improve it: Make an actual video guide. When talking about something show footage that relates to the things you are saying. Looting a barn is not at all related to player interaction, navigation etc. Make an exciting video. Provide some interesting footage and work in your tips as you play along, either when they become relevant or just during a short low-action sequence. Now its my personal opinion that you should provide some reason to actually watch the video as I think you should rather make a written guide if you just wanted to share your thoughts and it just appears a little lazy if you just record your voice while playing some unedited and uninteresting footage in the background.

Rain will be the new night?

There should be a way to avoid nighttime - choosing another server. However, every server should have a 24 hour cycle - but the owner might choose the start time and cycle speed upon server registration. Weather should be random and it should - of course - not be shown in the server browser. As server hopping should get a significant cost anyways switching servers until you find a dry one may just be the same as switching servers until you found a full set of military gear - bullshit that should be discouraged. Time should be shown as people choose their time of activity in real life as well - its realistic to have more players joining a server during daytime. But because of this having nighttime on every server would improve the game by adding some natural dynamics.

    Character customization?

Right now (0.48 - not sure about 0.49) there is no point in using them as better clothes are quite common and even in badly damaged or ruined state they are still better than the weakest items (mainly because damaged items still keep their full storing space). If they change this low tier clothes would be a common fallback option just like you would use that P1 if your AKM is out of ammo or destroyed. So I think both types should be added and in fact the low tier civilian items should be the only ones easy to find - but maybe they could also serve as materials for crafting those post-apocalyptic clothes. Also of course - variety. Having lots of different items in every tier allows for better differentiation even over greater distances. Now back to faces: If we got 40 slot servers the clone chance (two or more randomly picked players look exactly the same with the same clothes given faces are randomly - uniformly - distributed) drops below 1% at around 270 faces. Now 1% is my personal maximum clone chance (which I deem very high as 1:100 is significantly more than you have in other games) - not sure about the developers though. With 13 skins we got a ~82% clone chance which is way too much.

    September Rant Topic.

Most likely there was never such a team - and even more (more than most - wtf are you talking about?) likely there won't be one in the future as software development is actually way too complicated. You are probably just ignorant of alphas - maybe because you look at different things than others who do see the improvement. For example vehicle mechanics are truly as bad as in pre-alpha.

    September Rant Topic.

Where the fuck are those guys coming from. Not the game apparently as there is a big disclaimer every single time you start it that only goes away if you click on "I understand"! So those people are obviously unable to read while still writing rants. Ergo the Flying Spaghetti Monster must exist!

    September Rant Topic.

You sir are obviously unable to read. Still you managed to post a rant which I shall understand as the great revelation of the Flying Spaghetti Monster! Now we all know the truth. There is no game development there is only the FSM creation of inalterable games! Abandon all hope! DayZ was made Alpha and it will stay Alpha forever!

Magnum vs. 1911 which is better

If my information is correct they both deal the same damage right now (meaning .45 APC is much stronger than it should be) and have the same dispersion. Magnum does not require a magazinedoes not compete with another weaponmore common ammunitionColt 1911 more common (the weapon, not the magazines)higher rate of firehigher reload speed (with magazine)can hold one more round (with magazine)less recoil and lower sound level (unconfirmed)can mount a Pistol Flashlighthigher Dexterityammunition can be stacked to a higher numberSo it seems the Colt 1911 wins if you find the right attachments. For a starter who just got the gun and some bullets the Magnum might be better but it seems like its other advantages are not yet implemented (it should be more accurate and the .45 APC should deal less damage).
  20. Evil Minion

    Why won't my AKM shoot?

Try relogging - its probably a bug. But before you should look if the weapon is not ruined - ruined weapons don't shoot (though I believe you cannot ruin a rifle because all damage is applied to the player instead). Another bug I had happened after chambering: I shot the round but it did not disappear from the weapon so I had to manually eject and reload.

    DayZ Menu and Gameplay Concepts

I like those designs. A lot! I hope at least some of those make it into the game.

    Ingame map

Seems to be like this - info says "Markers will be visible only to players on the current". After switching server my markers disappeared and did not reappear, same with leaving and rejoining the server. Sadly I could not test any further because when I dropped my map it disappeared.

    Character customization?

I hope item degradation will come to a point where those low tier clothes are actually useful as temporary choices. Should be less common when more different clothes are added but may still happen. You skin/face is the only way to tell survivors apart without touching them. And thats why it should be reasonable complex - which means having significantly more skins/faces than maximum player count per server. Because having as many possible faces as server slots and everyone choosing a skin/face at random still nets you a >25% chance of having clones that are virtually indistinguishable when wearing the same clothes. Having twice as many skins/face would still give you a >8% chance. Having 5 skin tones, 4 eye colors, 5 hair colors and for each gender 2 head shapes, 3 noses and 3 mouths would reduce the chance of two random naked players meeting on a 500 slot server being clones below 1% if everyone got assigned a random character.
  24. What you see is design. Its shiny awesome but its only a concept. And it gives programmers a headache as they have to implement it so it actually works instead of just looking this way. In all situations instead of a few very specific ones. Consistently and without a huge loss of performance. Its the difference of showing you a picture of a nice car and actually producing it. Of course it would not be there without the design but what almost nobody can see is the huge pile of work that stands between the initial design and the finished product. So even if the devs decided to do it exactly as shown in this video we wouldn't see the results for quite some time. Even if the programmers had already built a perfect framework there would still be plenty of work to do for artists, animators etc.
