Even a blunt sword is dangerous. You still got a well balanced metal stick with hand protection and the ability to impale someone. And polearms might work by sheer weight similar to an oversized splitting axe.

The Communitys Official Vehicle/Vehicle Idea Thread Version 1.5 (Now with constantly changing polls!)
Evil Minion replied to d.walker43's topic in Suggestions
Yes and no - I can see it work under certain very specific circumstances (extreme rarity of parts/supplies and a realistic implementation of the vehicle itself). Might work much better than a battle tank or IFV because of its innate clunkiness (if its still to practical use a towed howitzer instead). In any way it would probably work as some kind of mythological vehicle with chances of every seing a working one being extremely close to zero and its main impact being merely the pure theoretical possibility (quite similar to players behaving differently because they know there could always be a sniper nearby). But in the end it was meant as a joke more than anything else - especially when calling it a utility vehicle. :D -
"I understand" - you lied.

Didn't find a Fireaxe yet but the Splitting Axe, Combat Knife, Machete and Cattle Prod hit where you direct the strike. This means the model not that little white dot - so just ignore the crosshair and you will be fine.

The War on Wilderness - Reclaiming Myshkino
Evil Minion replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Thats why building should be hard - not the typical game "hard" but really, really hard. And it should take a lot of time. Do you really think those 12-year-olds have the will and endurance to build a giant penis if it took them weeks or even longer to complete? All while staying alive, getting materials and supplies. No - building should be for the sophisticated. Just like building in real life. Same with destruction - if it was easy no building would stand for long. So something that takes a long time to build should also take a long time to destroy. You should not be able to blow up builings with normal stuff but would require very rare items (a shitload of explosives etc..), very high amounts of time (e.g. using an axe to destry a small wooden building) or high effort beforehand (like getting your hands on some heavy-duty vehicles with enough fuel to work properly). Again here - kids should not even bother destroying buildings but rather focus on breaking in somehow - which shouldn't be easy either. Now by making building that hard you might want to save yourself some work and include existing structures which might cause most structures to be build in cities ot towns probably as an extention to a barricaded house. Especially as destruction should be equally hard you might enjoy it for quite some time until it finally gets destroyed. Or you build your base far in the woods but this way you might have some more problems with logistics. In short: If you create a system every 12-year-old can use without much effort you shouldn't be surprised if every 12-year-old uses it without much effort. An the results are what you described. Now if you make base-building hard and destruction as well those kids will most likely just interact with the buildings someone else built. Now one use for the wilderness is hiding so we will get buildings there which in turn might cause people entering to look for them. There is no need to add a military base with high level loot to every forest - chances are people will do this for you. However, I would also like to see some resources you can most likely get in the wilderness: Food - sure there should be food spawns in cities but reduced, especially for public/military buildings. Crafting materials - from simple sticks to leather hides to poisonous mushrooms - things you might need for various reasons and are more likely to get in the wilderness. -
Found two - one had a Combat Knife, some M4 magazines and chemlights, The other had a Chest Holster, FNX and optics as well as 5.56 rounds. Both Blackhawks - the one on the screenshot is one of the Russian ones.

Though the tape only prevents rust and gives some added stability. It won't magically reshape your car. Some utility vehicles that might also help with basebuilding etc. Garden Tractor: Tractor: Excavator: Road Roller: Self-propelled Howitzer: -
The War on Wilderness - Reclaiming Myshkino
Evil Minion replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I am not really sure about this. Its hard to argue dynamics in this state as key elements are still missing: A fix/nerf to server hopping A more advanced loot economy/slower overall progress A proper day/night cycle (with proper nights that are dark and cannot be cheated away) Vehicles Base buildingMaybe we do need more wilderness, maybe we don't. But I know for sure that we need smarter animals - if they had a line of sight greater than 3m it would help. -
I never thought I would In this case go where you came from or build a mod. What you advertise is reducing depth, giving players much less options and turning the game into a distillation of itself at best. What you want is to turn DayZ into yet another oversimplified casual game. I don't want this, I don't support this and I hope many people will agree. Also there will be many mods doing this anyways.
-
Lets pick this one. Yes, its totally correct. And yes, its a feature. Melee weapons don't hit where you aim - they hit where you direct your weapon. That pretty obvious with the Combat Knife (Yep - found one! guess what I was looking for - pistol mags. Guess what I didn't find.) as it clearly hits far to the right of that little white dot.
-
You confused "improvement" with "solved all issues". I hope you will never become a teacher or team leader because that would just be horrible for everyone.
-
Its odd that attaching a battery does not give the usual feedback you got for flashlights. You drag&drop the battery and it seems to disappear. Does the "loaded" cattle prod knock out players?
-
They could loot your corpse and when they encounter their next freshspawn they can see "oh - its that guy". Of course this also helps the other 1% of players that I was lucky to encounter about 40-60% of the time: You help a group of freshspawns and later you run into an armed group - that does not kill you as they can remember your face.

Do you believe people who shoot on sight are terrible at DayZ?
Evil Minion replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Myself? I usually shoot on sight if in "combat mode" - so to speak. Happens when someone is shooting around - especially when he is shooting at me. Also when people are silently running at me with a raised weapon. Thats shifting the burden of proof. Also shooting on sight has nothing to do with being bad at the game. This kind of thinking is flawed. Only because someones playstyle conflicts with yours he is not bad (though he might be bad at your playstyle - but thats not the same as being bad at the game). In fact the main question is: What is does "being good" mean in DayZ? Getting good loot quickly? Surviving for a long time? Finding out new things and tricks? Being socially adepet and able to cooperate? Working well inside a group? Being a good fighter? A successful predator? Leadership? Marksmanship? Ruthlessness? Kindness? Its legit. Different people do it for different things. Those people make good antagonists. If anything they are pure douche bags that enhance your DayZ experience. One of the major game elements is the possibility of encountering a predator behind every corner. Or a potential ally... Depends. Did they hunt you down, hit you or at least put up a fight? -> No. Did they start panic firing at you missing every shot until they run out of ammo? -> Yes. -
Can't find any loot in the forest shacks. Are Tent Spawns disabled?
Evil Minion replied to Ronk's topic in General Discussion
According to the patch notes those items do spawn but underground. Try the inventory screen. -
The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

Dean said he wanted the Browning Hi-Power because he used it himself at PAX. However he also stated that its not really his decision. So its not confirmed but might be on the (wish-)list. He confirmed the M1 Garand shortly after this though. -
1) I like the Frostfall-way of temporarily giving you some temperature but draining more than it gave you. 2) Only branches make it much harder to light the fire as wood - let alone non-dry wood - needs some heat to start burning. 3) Why? No need for this. 4) Not sure about this. I think being indoors should protect from weather, wind and sun but deserted houses are usually not heated. 5) A slot for socks and an additional slot for shirts would be nice. In real life you don't replace your T-shirt when its cold but add another layer (two layers+vest is probably enough though). 6) Not by much but yes it should. Less wind and at least one heat source (yourself). However lighting a fire should also have some negative effects due to the smoke.

DayZTV has sheets for both 0.48 and clothing properties as well. And it might be from a former build (at least I hope as the shotgun pellets still got a damage rating of 60 on it).

Use your hands - better item interaction system.
Evil Minion replied to Evil Minion's topic in Suggestions
I just played the new build and found a telescopic baton. Its pretty good at showing why your hands should not function via inventory management: Pick it up in closed state. Now take it in your hands. Now open. If the baton was located in your clothing (which is very likely as the inventory management fills slots from top to bottom) you will now drop it. Why? Because there is no space in your inventory. Nevermind that you held it in your hands at this moment. Then there is the chemlight/flare thing - light them and try to take them in your hands. It requires you to first put them inside your inventory (unless there is no space), then take them into your hands, then light them again. At least "dropping" works via G. -
Maybe there was no nerf at all? This might be part of the last balance changes. And I have still no source/confirmation about "7.62x54mmR deals the same damage as 7.62x39mm" - which means so far I consider this one a hoax (as it doesn't match my experiences). The only information I have on gun damage is this sheet (probably taken from gamefiles). Not sure if its correct though and even then some modifiers are missing. However, surviving a Mosin shot was possible for a long time, nothing new - are you sure you did not get hit in the arms? In my opinion a full power rifle should kill with about two chest shots but deal significant damage with just one. Also I believe distance doesn't matter in DayZ.

Now we ot this huge "DAYZ" image on top of every page here. What about using this space during server maintenance to announce it for everyone to see. Those tiny forum messages are obviuosly not up for the job. If thats still not enough the whole thing could be written in PINK letters so nobody can possibly ignore it.
-
I am actually dead serious about this. Might also work for telling if the servers are back up: Big pink line of text disappears -> servers are online again.

I approve using other survivors this way!
