    All headgear protects the whole head - maybe this will change, maybe not. Normally layers of clothing cover tits but here its the opposite. :lol: I did not notice any difference but I only ever played alone so maybe its not that significant.

    Temperature effects are broken since hotfix

    There are different conditions on different servers. Yesterday I played on "cold" servers (the ones where you can see your breath) for the first time after the 0.49 update. I was cooling off most of the time but quite slowly and in fact my temperature didn't drop too far. Then I got on a "warm" servers and was warming up until the messages disappeared (probably when I reached my target temperature). Back to a "cold" one (stupid restarts) I was in the same state described above. Now using a colder outfit on one of those "cold" servers might not be the best idea. I once (before the hotfix) encountered a bug that made me got soaked instantly upon walking into the rain but as it was on a "warm" server I did not freeze. And at some point I was about to grill some deer steak but it warmed up and burnt in no time. Probably the issue is related to gamespeed? I also noted no difference between pristine and ruined clothes in terms of protection (maybe the changed this?). Outfit: Wool Coat, Assault Vest, Cargo Pants, Jungle Boots, Gloves and Gorka E Helmet (no visor)

Now there is a lot of talk about gameplay but most seem to focus on gameplay elements like weapons, looting, cooperative goals etc. Lets talk about the earliest stages and how much of a challenge they should be. Do people like to live in a dangerous world using cooperation (or betrayal) to overcome challenges or do they want to be able to stand alone without much hazzle? How fast should most people traverse the initial survival phase and finally focus on getting better equipment? Now the dificulty level of this stage depends on group size. Cooperation usually allows for faster progression and more power you can use against your environment while playing alone will most likely be much harder. Now large groups also need organisation otherwise they might not be able to sustain their numbers. The question is basically about the "optimal group size" for surviving the early stages - the number of players to provide a challenging experience with a good success rate. Low numbers usually mean a easier gameplay with cooperation mostly speeding up progression while high numbers indicate a very challenging environment requiring cooperation for bare survival. Here being alone would drastically increase the difficulty level of the game.

    Early Game Survival and Group Size

    So we agree the lower the optimal number of players the easier the gameplay? This is not about firefights but about basic survival (food, other supplies, hunting, gathering, camping, zombie fighting etc.) only!

    Persistence and a wearable "key"

    Thats the part I don't like for reasons mentioned above. But the concept of lockable storage is not bad at all. I would like to weaken this aspect in several ways: Add only a finite number of different keys. This way you don't have that one key for that one container but rather a chance that your keys match. So you might find a lock with key or even only the key in some loot spawns and if you are lucky you come across a locked container and the key does fit. Make it possible to break logs with the right tools. So some special realtively rare tools like bolt cutters might be able to crack open logs allowing you to break into storage as well. Make storage able to be stolen: Locked box? No problem we are two or three and can carry that thing. Its very slow but once we manage to get it on our truck... Make it possible to outright destroy storage with the right tools at a chance of destroying the goods stored inside. Like putting some explosives on that locked box or driving over it with that truck.

    You can go to the extreme here: Brasserie (if female) Tanktop T-Shirt Sweater Cardigan Jacket Utility Vest Coat Rain-PonchoThough I think one additional layer for shirts wouldn't be that bad - creating 3 ingame layers. Allows for a little more flexibility especially now as the weather starts affecting you.

    More Spray Pain Color Options For Latter Please! :)

    Thats actually not true. The game is not "supposed to be played this way" - the concept is to give players a wide variation of options to choose from. The survival aspect rather gives you some framework to play with and weights tthose options. Sure camo helps players to survive but that doesn't mean there should be other options as well. Maybe players will even find a way to use bright colors as well (and if only to paint every weapon they find and leave it there to make finders more visible). Having that pink SKS might also save you from getting killed by your own mate. I also think spraypaint should be usable to as actual spraypaint as well to color objects like walls or trees. Here bright red might be more valuable. In any way: Provide the option and see what players can do with it.

    Melee right click

    Some kind of weapon push would be interesting. Could double as a block if your weapon is big enough damaging the weapon instead of the wielder. For smaller items a kick is probably enough doing about the same but without the blocking.

    While I don't have a problem with tracking statistics in general I think this wouldn't do much good: It gives a wrong impression of gameplay. Players might be tempted to grind stats because if its there its meant to be used. So if you add a "Survivor kills" stat people will kill survivors and if you add a "Zombie kills" stat people will hunt down zombies and brag about it, even if they would not have done it otherwise.It makes actually tracking your achievements too casual (thats why steam achievements should be hidden or not have any progress meter). Players would simply not bother counting and just casually go along killing. I think if you really want to brag about your kills you should keep track of them yourself and maybe even take screenshots for your trophy collection.

    Opened doors are not random!

    Aside from server hopping there is nothing wrong with power-gaming. If there is any knowledge you can use to your advantage its fair game. And even server hopping is actually no different from using a massively overpowered gun thats no fun to use (and certainly no fun to play against). So its a matter of game "balance" (actually more design than real balance) - if there is a pattern people will get used to it. A more complex pattern increases the games difficulty level. Randomizing between certain patterns increases it even more while randomizing each door makes for uncertainty - however you can still watch out whether there are abnormal deviations from the distribution. I think there should be a good mix between knowledge and uncertainty. Learning something and applying this knowledge is just as fun as having to deal with unkown circumstances. So for example I think doors should be randomized while certain loot should be more common in/exklusive to certain buildings (no AKM in residential homes or fire stations).

    New Temperature System

    I like it. The experimental version was a little bit overdone (humans were cold-blooded and clothes big heat pads) but this was probably for testing purposes. The stable version seems pretty well balanced. Its something you have to take care of but nothing you have to constantly worry about. And it makes rain feel like actual rain instead of just some weather effect that does nothing. There aren't any problems if you do as you would do in real life - select the right clothes.

    Spawn near your Friends (realistic)

    Nah, it would just reduce the meaning of death even further if applied to respawns and cause reinforcements to appear way too soon when applied to spawns. For respawns I think going exactly the opposite way (bad spawns for everyone) is a better solution as it makes death having some impact without keeping you away from the game for too long. Though there was an interesting idea about a "cure zombie" feature that might allow for a friend to respawn next to you. For spawns I really think you should just keep spawning where you logged out with some special interactions when players are nearby (to avoid ghosting/combat logging and the likes). Everything else might disrupt the gameplay by too much (people suddenly popping up near other people should be kept at the absolute minimum).

    Spawn System Suggestions

    Its not like another player approaching because the distance should still be very short. So if you are hiding inside a house and someone logs in inside the same house she will get moved outside and maybe some distance away but not necessarily far enough to get spotted by you even if you are on the lookout. So the message mitigates the fact that they got close without being able to get spotted. Same for the logging person who just didn't get the chance of securing her surroundings. Of course the ideal situation would be to only ever get this messages with friends - where it also serves as explanation why the four of you logged out in the same room but logged in scattered around the building (which in turn prevents reinforcements to pop up in the same room as yourself taking attackers by surprise).

    Sometimes I question the dayZ clothing damage system.

    Sometimes? Clothing damage is pretty strange. You can virtually punch a leather jacket into pieces - and zombies do this all the time. But if shot be a rifle the same leather jacket catches the bullet and saves your life by absorbing a part of the energy with its whole surface and everything inside. Then utterly ruined clothes can still hold items just fine and also protect against cold just as well. I hope the clothing damage system is to be revised at some point.
  18. I found those servers had less desync but sometimes I got lags. Also item condition seemed to lag - I was hit multiple times by zombies and my coat still showed "Pristine" but when the server restarted it was "Ruined". Had the same with another coat later that was "stuck" in "Worn" until I removed an item (Green Spraypaint 75%). Seems to be a display bug as I also could not repair genuinely "Badly Damaged" pants using a "Bad Damaged" (actually "Ruined") sewing kit. I also learned that you can eat tons of poisonous berries and then eat Charcoal Tabs to be fine, that the Baseball Bat is a funny weapon (you actually have to swing it with your mouse as it hits far to the right) and that the Hammer is very good in finishing downed zombies. Still I would have preferred a 1st person server but as I didn't get into any PvP situations it was fine - for science! P.S. Why did this get moved to "Announcements & Information"?

    Walking while eating and drinking.

    You should be able to walk slowly but not run or sprint. You should also be able to crouch or stand up. However, you should not be able to look around freely - instead alt should only allow for a very small area just like using the binoculars.

    Primary Three Obects

    Right now my first three objectives are: Get healthy. Get a basic gear (backpack, melee weapon and clothes). Get a ranged weapon (including some ammo).With this done I consider "early game" to be complete.

    Breaking doors with zombies

    When I read the title I though this was about taking a zombie and smashing it into a door opening it in the process. Maybe its enough to make zombies not smash the doors but hit them multiple times (causing noise) until either giving up or opening them (depending on the door in question). They seem too stupid to actually do something else than striking, clawing and punching a door.
  24. They don't ignore - they just don't post very often because when they do this happens. Are all of those third person servers? Because I would like to help but rather not play with wall peekers.

    Increase name size

    No - people have the same names in real life as well - no need to limit them or putting resources into assuring this. Its not a ladder or competitive game where this is used to track your progress. We don't need "Sorry but this name is already taken!" - even less with the current implementation where you can change names freely. I have no problem with a fixed name for each survivor or even player but requiring uniqueness is completely unnecessary. Yes to longer names but a definite no to that stupid one Steve limit.
