Those shots probably caught the attention of some other armed survivors who - upon seeing the corpses - decided to snipe the OP. There was no shot because sometimes gun sounds do not play or because the killer was too far away (gun sounds are pretty quiet). -
Just to make it clear you are not talking about body types but player classes here. Body types would be more about the shape of your body whether be it a cosmetic base type (rectangular, V-shaped, pear-shaped, hourglass) or an aquired type (fat, skinny, muscular) that may or may not have have consequences in terms of game mechanics. I would really like it if we had some options on the former as it would make character models more diverse. Also aquiring shapes within the game (getting fat, skinny etc.) would be a nice addition but it would probably require a procedural animation system to get them to work. And choosing those would cause balance issues just like fixed character classes - better let them emerge from gameplay. Aging... I would not like to play a rapidly aging survivor so the effect would be neclectable. However, I would like to play a (cosmetically) old person and it would be more authentic to have survivors of different ages instead of everyone being a younger adult. This also adds diversity and allows for easier recognition which in turn allows for better ingame interactions. Now children might cause some issues but everything between (older) teenagers and old but still fit people might be possible. Cigarettes - of course. Also add some Cigars! Might end up purely cosmetic but having some effects would also be interesting. Several substances might cause addiction if consumed too often. Tobacco might be one of the weakest, alcohol might be stronger and also cause stronger accute effects and morphine, well... When they add a stamina system there might even be a place for really basty things. Just make sure the side effects are authentic to avoid sending a "drugs are cool" message.

There is a distinct difference between reading someones behavior and reading someones mind. This suggestion is akin to some "I can feel this one has good cards" sixth sense and not like "this guy is acting like he has good cards". In fact you can also read ingame behavior - probably much better than some "moral codex enforcing karma system" that also does not show the true intentions but rather gives you something like a personal history instead. Even worse: Your gut feeling would tell you that someone you never met and who is absolutely honest and really wants to help you is lying to you because he killed some guys before without you even knowing about this.

Can you look into a real persons eyes and see what she is thinking? No! Does a real person twitch whenever he tells a lie and never twitch when he tells the truth? No! Do real people who want to shoot you always slowly move their right hand towards their pistol? No! Do you always feel thirsty when you are thirsty? Yes! Thats the difference. Its significant! The green status bar tells you something you should know. The gut feeling tells you something you should not know.

It does. At least unless they are hackers - because otherwise they are not ruining anything. Also kicking [FOG] members is clearly against the server intend - because then you can't kill them. -
No - thats something that should purely work on the player side. No artificial tells only natural ones. Just as the other wrote: The gut feeling should be your own. Also it reduces the possiblilties for deception and paranoia which would reduce the overall experience. What we should have is a character identity (unbiased) where a character has a specific fixed appearance (face, body, eyes, hair, tatoos, scars) and maybe a fixed name as well. Thats crucial for a natural formation of communities and an ingame cooperation/reward/punishment system. In the end every karma/morality/gut-feeling system coded into the game would impose a specific moral codex on players would severely hamper their own options, playstyles and choices. And every such system would have weaknesses and eventually label players as "good" that are actually "lawful within this specific codex" regardless of them being good in the first place. An (exaggerated) example of this can be seen here - and every single artificial system would be abusable in this way effectively only gimping every playstyle that is "outside the codex".

I think we should have thde following: an additional slot for shirts instead of the current underwear T-shirt that is taped to you body (give females a bra to appease prudes and fanatics)pants/shoes/hearwear/gloves having a much greater effect (right now your choice of topwear is the defining factor)more weather effects (both warmer and colder ones)stamina system (would act against getting warm from staying active)more ways to make fires (there is a topic about this)Also there is nothing wrong with sunny but frigid weather - especially in late autumn and winter. Seasons should be synced inside a hive/shard though: Its stupid to switch between icy cold and burning hot too fast.

I think you are fully geared if your main gear (clothes, weapons, attachments) is at a maximum which means replacing any piece would result in lower performance. Not sure whats wrong with Texas but overcast nights in DayZ seem to be just as bright as clear nights with a full moon in Germany. I think a better way to deal with nighttime is to add some kind of blur that makes it harder to spot details over a great distance regardless of gamma and use the darkness as an effect to mask this so it looks authentic with the right gamma and more like fog with high gamma settings.

If I got a piece of candy every time someone started another topic about this (granted: annoying) bug I would not be able to leave my room by now. Also it doesn't seem to kill you but rather causes a random damage spike to your legs that is miraculously healed shortly after - given you did not die by the spike. In fact I did not recall an instance where I got killed by this but had my legs broken quite a lot and my pants ruined even more. Report here - vote up!

I would like it if they added more potential spawns especially in the northern area. Maybe thats even planned once they got it developed (as right now towns and water are missing). Also the central west is relatively empty. -
You can find quite some charts. Here is one: I really think a different barrel length should affect damage. This could be easily done by adding a "ballistic" value to each weapon and multiply damage/bullet velocity. If a round would do 1000 damage a weapon with 0.9 ballistic value would deal 900. To counteract the disadvantage for shorter weapons (especially handguns) they could also add a weight value (with all implications like different recoil or sway) and/or simply increase dexterity. Everything else could be handled by the ballistics mechanics. As for current handgun damage: Right now .45 ACP does way too much damage compared to all other cartridges - it should be nerfed to 7.5 (from 9) when using the table from above.

Probably not because both at the same time does not make sense. Vehicles are one of the game concepts that is better added within Alpha (at least the basic system) so we might see vehicles some time before entering Beta. Because Beta should only start with all the core concepts and mechanics in place. At least planned - there may be issues that require rewworking during Beta but thats something that should be avoided as far as possible to concentrate on tweaking, balancing, dynamics and getting good parameters. I think we might see vehicles this year but Beta will probably start in 2015.

Mostly good ideas but I don't like the character classes (if anything you should get skills by playing), the human NPCs (humans should either be zombies or players) and the guaranteed 3 minute knockout. For starting items you should only have very basic clothes (shoes, shirt, pants) which might be randomized though (maximum: Shirt+Jeans+Jogging Shoes) giving you 2-6 inventory slots. No other gear but a flashlight+battery (as gimmick for being able to spawn at night - not to be replaced with anything).

The "cold" indicator works pretty well here - as soon as you get red messages you should start trying to get warmer. Otherwise it depends on how well nourished you are - people with a lot of energy in their body might go on longer but thats not something the game should tell you. -

Don't tell people what they would do in a certain situation. Especially if you want to justify "make the game more MilSim" ("It gives you a disadvantage!") or "give players less options" ("Oh my god the trolls!") or "taylor it around my playstyle" ("Nobody would use it!"). It does not make the game less realistic - stop repeating this bullshit because thats just that - bullshit. -
They didn't. The game has 7.62x54mmR rounds (the model) though they are just called "7.62mm" and come in 7.62x51mm boxes for some reason. I believe at some point they were even (falsely) called 7.62x51mm.

Its a little gimmick that allows you to spawn at night without a huge drawback. Once they fixed nighttime (gamma exploit, lights through walls etc.) and removed all those goddamn daylight servers from the public hive* it might have its advantages to keep and use it. *If you want to play during daytime you can always join a server running it at the moment. Daylight servers just mess up dynamics and make it impossible to play during nighttime - thats private shard/hive/server material and has no place in the public hive. -

Those clothes don't need to be balanced as long as every piece has its use. However, better clothes should be more rare and maybe harder to maintain as well. The thread of overheating would meke shorter clothes more viable as would a weight system and better persistance (makes lack of inventory space less of an issue). -
I've been playing DayZ for a while, but I don't understand the death situation.

The weapon damage being high enough. Those 500 you got from the wiki are some obscure base value. As far as I know the ammo used will also be factored in as well as the body part hit. Oh - and you tale more blood/shock damage with each item in your inventory (though clothes themselves reduce damage slightly). -
