The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
Evil Minion replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
We don't need those but why shouldn't we have those as very rare and probably impractical choices? Because its a survival game and we are required to be anti-tacticool? Because having some high level rewards is bad? Because adding them would instantly turn the game into a MilSim? No - add them as very high level rewards but make sure for them to be extremely rare and realistically impremented (with their according downsides) - and of course emphasize the survival part of the game. You got a .50 cal rifle? Nice for you but my hunting rifle can be fired in another position than prone while resting on a bipod, I can find ammo in other places than a few high risk locations, I can carry my weapon on my back and for a much longer period of time and in PvP I can kill my opponent just as well. And did I mention people probably won't hunt be down to get their hands on my gun? -
No Destruction of Certain Objects: Guns, stones
Evil Minion replied to agouti's topic in Suggestions
When I came here I expected just another topic about "I don't want to lose my gear" but this actually makes sense. Maybe certain items should require a minimum damage dealt to them to take damage at all (like say reduce all damage by a certain value). -
Honor is something you tell others to meet you on your terms. In fact the whole concept of honor is actually dishonorable by changing the rules of engagement in a way that benefits a select group.
-
I think thats more about the basic spawns not piling up at some places while others only spawn little loot. And about not spawning more loot where there is a higher demand as this would discourage migrating. If I am not mistaken the current system seems to favor some places spawning tons of gear in a single location and also respawns gear if taken away which leads to far more loot spawning in areas with a high player density as in areas with low player density.
-
You are breathing and you are generally unable to hold your weapon perfectly still - so by virtue of not being a bench any weapon held by you will move around slightly - something you can reduce but not completely eliminate by choosing a better stance, using tools like buttstock or bipod*, holding your breath and not being exhausted. *This does not work in DayZ however because for some odd reason attachments change dispersion instead of having authentic effects (even scopes!).

WARNING Don't log out while climbing a ladder!
Evil Minion replied to Jeramy's topic in New Player Discussion
Do you guys even take server carshes and restarts into account? Sometimes you have no choice but to log out on a ladder simply because you were there at the wrong time. But otherwise yes: Logging out on a ladder is like saying "Lets take a rest here - I am sure my grip will stay tight when I fall asleep.". -
According to this table everything that isn't topwear has only very little effect on increasing your heat comfort. And my experiences ingame seem to confirm that it mainly boils down to choosing the right jacket.
-
Instead of simply nerfing hypothermia they should add more layers of clothing (e.g. shirt below jacket, differenbt types of underwear) and give non-topwear items some more impact - right now a T-Shirt gives you ore protection as military pants. There should be higher values on pants/gloves/headwear/boots etc. Also overall weather should get warmer and colder during the seasons which should be synched between servers of the same hive/shard - you should not be able to switch from a server where it is summer to a server where it is winter or vice versa (so you can pick your general clothes according to season). In winter its probably okay if you have to warm up from time to time despite wearing very warm clothing but in summer wearing anyhing like that would cause overheating pretty quickly (which would also mean many of the "top tier" clothes might be unsuitable for warm weather).

Its probably less realistic but more authentic to speed up degradation to a point where people have to worry about it (obviously way slower than it is in experimental right now) - also in real life you will hardly wear your shoes 24/7 and sprint through the wilderness all the time. Then there is maintenance - in DayZ there is only patching up with duct tape but to maintain your shoes in real life you would do other things as well like cleaning them or applying polish. I agree with sicknesses being authentic problems as well but in terms of game development the feature discussed here is easier to include. The point is that most 24/7 real life issues have to be converted into a gaming environment where you only have a few hours per week. So speeding up some elements helps making them feel more authentic - especially the "halted" elements like temperature, healing, hunger, thirst, gear degradation etc. Even "non halted" elements might occasionaly work better if sped up - take horticulture for example (though here I would like it if it took at least one day to grow the plant - still much faster than in real life). It all depends on the effects on gameplay.
-
Because then testing would take an unnecessary long period of time. And you you might run into other things (like people killing you) that prevent you from testing. I really hope once they fixed persistence a lot of things (gear degradation, cooking, horticulture, trapping etc.) will take much more time meaning you have to put some planning into those instead of "just quickly growing food" for example. It seems going without shoes makes you take more damage than going with ruined ones. I ran around with ruined wellies and my character only dipped into "healing" even going back to "healthy" while moving (so healing amount > damage amount). When going without boots I dropped to "healing" and upon stopping I had to wait for some time to get back to "healthy" (healing amount < damage amount). maybe the underground plays a role as well.
-
Any given way of spawning would be unauthentic because people suddenly appear out of thin air. But spawning with (almost) nothing and finding your starting gear at the nearest loot spawns makes sense from a gameplay perspective. On the other side giving fresh spawns more and better items at start would be bad as its less of a progress to actually find something and respawning would actually increase your gear status above that of someone who just lost his/her belongings. Also I think "I woke up at the beach with nothing but a few clothes and no memory of how I got there" is enough authenticity for our purpose. Maybe the spawning gear should be in bad condition as well to represent that something happened to you.

DayZ Virtual Paper Doll - Community Clothing Suggestions (v1.30)
Evil Minion replied to Evil Minion's topic in Suggestions
Updated - I am a little surprised the Tank Top won the shirt poll (expected the Dress Shirt to win). -
The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
Evil Minion replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
We do not have a single sniper rifle in game right now. But I agree focus should be on more basic weapons right now as sniper rifles would need some basic concepts in place first (see above). I don't like this round by virtue of being too dedicated - any pile of this ammo would only ever be used by a sniper while .50 cal (BMG or the Russian version) also serves as ammunition for heavy machine guns. This broader application is what makes it a better choice in my opinion. Also as you said the numerous .30 cal cartridges are probably good enough for "sniping" and open possibilities for a high number of weapons as well (including battle rifles and general purpose machine guns). And if the plan is still the same we will get 3 of them (7.62x54mmR, 7.62x51mm NATO and .30-06). The .338 Lapua would be too close here. By the setting all three rounds would make sense. In terms of gameplay its probably better to concentrate on a single one that allows for a broader spectrum and more differences compared to the .30 cal rounds - while being sufficiently rare. The .338 Lapua is the worst choice here being both closer to the smaller rounds and having comparatively limited applications. -
I tried to be ruthless and mean - but I suck at it.

You lose health at a speed comparable to health regeneration - maybe a little faster. So as long as you stay at full blood and well nourished its not a big thing but when you don't regenerate health it will slowly weaken you and even kill you in extreme cases. There might be a funny interaction with chemical poisoning though: As it reduces your health to 1 even if you manage to survive moving barefoot or with ruined shoes might kill you instantly (not tested yet).

that dang steak, cooking question
Evil Minion replied to Brimstone99's topic in New Player Discussion
Gas Stove + Frying Pan is still bugged on .50 so I don't expect the pot to work. So the only use is burning meat - which has its use only because burned meat is at least less dangerous than raw meat. Still a fire is much better and consists of stuff vastly more useful otherwise. -
It disallows putting big and cumbersome items inside containers that should not be able to hold them and thus allows for more viability options in items (e.g. Derringer or knives fit into pockets but Magnum or Machete do not). It also rewards you for using your brain instead of just running around spamming F while looting. In extension it gives you the choice of "fast looting" - putting stuff into your pockets quickly at the cost of being able to take less - and "diligent looting" - carefully sorting in loot to carry as much as possible at the cost of speed and security. To make this clear: I would like both methods to be viable. Players should not be forced into elaborate inventory tetris but they should be rewarded if they choose to.
-
Yes please - why would you want it to be trivial to use your inventory to maximum capacity? Of cause brainlessly stuffing items inside your clothes should still work to an extend - it should not be impossible to play the game without playing inventory tetris. But it definitely should net you an advantage if you do.

Make more zombies but remove their ability to run.
Evil Minion replied to magafe's topic in Suggestions
The problem with the slow zombie horde idea is that it would require an insanely high zombie density to even stay remotely challenging. As in "London Tube at rush hour" density - otherwise you could just easily run away all the time. And this would be unrealistic given the setting - Chernarus is a somewhat rural European country. -
Both survivors and zombies are Usain Bolt based and can run forever. Must be the virus...
-
Definitely something worth considering.
-
Right now the only reason for me to play on a private shard would be the server hopping - and thats something that has to be dealt with anyways. Otherwise I will probably stick to the public hive: bigger loot economy, more servers available (I am choosy here) and no obscure house rules.
-
You logic seems to be reversed - instead of (unrealistically) removing the sway on the bow there should be some (realistic) drawback to holding up the assault rifle. Also realistically the bow should have much less base sway (being lighter) but sway should increase drastically if held ready to fire.
-
Actually your decision to venture out in the open after you clearly gave away your position ruined your PvP. Also by the title I expected someone spawning right behind you in the middle of a firefight and then punching your out. Here you just got flanked by a barely geared player.

When are we going to get gold spray paint cans?
Evil Minion replied to PongoZ's topic in General Discussion
You have a troubling idea of "realism". It all boils down to you wanting people to behave in a way you deem "realistic" while it is clearly not.
