Yeah - thats persistence/loot economy and probably the reason you can choose to host a server without. I sense there will be many iterations until the algorithm works as intended.

Just a normal day inside Novo Tower - well aside from the firefight, it seems it got lost. Hunting firearms are pretty easy to find right now - the bigger issue is ammunition. Unless you want to go for a Mosin - then its the other way around.
-
This issue was already present since 0.49 hotfix. Probably related to desync as most of the current issues.

Yes, but only the final release. And either completely separated or with zero advantages (auto aim etc.).
-
No - you should not be able to choose your spawn point. Instead your spawn point should be randomly selected and also depend on certain factors like the place of your last death (maybe excluding "freshspawn deaths"), the location of any player or storage (to avoid quick re-gearing and spawnkilling) and the general value of the area (the worse the higher your chance to spawn - if you want a good one move your lazy ass). I can see (as suggested elsewhere) spawning relatively close with freshspawn (and only freshspawn!) friends - meeting up should still take some time but it should be possible to limit the worst case scenarios where one spawns in Cherno the other in Svetlojarsk. Might be done by limiting the distance to a certain maximum value to the next friends spawn (as proposed in the other topic) or by your friends spawn having an effect on spawn probability (more likely to spawn closer to your friend but worst case might still happen). However its should be avoided having groups spawning basically in one spot. That suiciding thing... should come with greater consequences. On average it should be bettter to walk and meet up than suiciding to get a better spawn. Thats especially true if your friends are already geared.

Strap 2 main weapons on your backback with rope
Evil Minion replied to Replifice's topic in Suggestions
First remove the magic slots and add a weight/stamina system then we can talk about this. As of now nobody needs two main weapons and I believe the game is much better if you have to choose which one to keep or suffer from having to carry one in your hands (which should be easier now if it wasn't for that bug that makes the carried weapon disappear if you leave a certain area). Right now you are already carrying way too much without even using storage space. But I like the idea of having to strap/unstrap things instead of keeping them usable all the time. So I would propose an alternative: Remove the gun slot but make it possible to add firearms (and archery weapons) to your melee slot making it a shared slot and then make it possible to strap one other fiream/melee/archery weapon to your back in the way you suggested. For your purposes the submachine guns and AKS74U are perfect as you can keep them in a backpack. Also handguns can be quite effective and take up even less space. Though they suffer from rifles getting a slot for free - adding even more of those would only hurt them. Melee weapons have similar problems as the free slot makes the Firefighter Axes significant size a non-issue. -
DayZ Virtual Paper Doll - Community Clothing Suggestions (v1.30)
Evil Minion replied to Evil Minion's topic in Suggestions
More (color) variants for existing clothes are always nice. Though there are way too many possibilities to list them all thats why I decided to limit the topic to styles. Camo patterns go in this direction as well as they are relatively well defined and low in number (at least compared to civilian motives/color schemes/patterns etc.). -
Running into those guys surely was... special. Bad luck for you, another player might have tried to make the best out of it. You basically ran into roleplaying bandits. Welcome to the apocalypse! This has: Although it's intended to have "non action phases" of unspecified length - it adds a level of uncertainty and surprise. If somebody suddenly starts shooting at me while playing Battlefield etc. - well, it was about to happen. In DayZ it's more like "holy shit a player" and "holy shit he is shooting at me"!

First post? Check. Useless rant? Check. Obligatory Picard facepalm image? Check. States expectations and demands immediate action? Check. Not understanding how development works? Check. Ends with "GG"? Check. Anyways, enjoy your stay! Also: Servers now post a long red text when they are about to wipe your character and state the exact steps to take if you want to prevent it. You can also reduce the risk by not rejoining a server immediately after restart.

Usually even a humble .22 deals more damage than an axe. But it heavily depends on where you hit - headshots are deadly, torso or arm hits not so much...
-
Which roughly translates into "mottled whale oil".

I had this bug where you could shoot multiple times using the (sawn-off) shotgun - but only two of those shots really did damage the rest was like shooting blanks. A similar thing happened with a chambered pistol. I believe this is something similar - I can't see any more than one or two shots per load actually hit your target. Its probably related to desync.

Awareness, patience and knowledge are pretty important. Don't try to rush anything - you will most likely fail. Here is an example how those things can be used. The problem with camping any spot is that you either got a low value area - people won't expect you but thats because you are lucky to find any prey in the first place - or a high value area - given enough patience you will most likely encounter prey but players usually expect you to be there and play much more cautiously.

Someone made a sheet - I can confirm the values for firearms (yes - the P1 has 3 dexterity - less than the AKS74U) but did not check the attachments.

Plans to hotfix 0.50? (Dev reply please?)
Evil Minion replied to Knight05 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Isn't that actually the way it is supposed to be? Servers respawn loot during uptime and not on restart. Though the balance needs some work - at some places tons of loot are spawning (see picture above) while elsewhere you will not find anything. There is also a (probably intended) effect related to player dynamics: popular places and areas with lots of spawnpoints around will have much less lot available. This makes camping your spawn city less viable and rewards you when moving elsewhere. -
I would also like to see more diversity mechanics-wise. Right now attachments only onedimensionally affect dispersion with the odd dexterity modifier in between. I think most of them should not affect dispersion at all (leave this to muzzle attachments) but rather sway, recoil, sights, weight, dexterity, inventory size etc. This way instead of hunting for the best attachments you could outfit weapons for certain purposes and have some tradeoffs. E.g. a plastic buttstock greatly reduces weight and sway but isn't as good at absorbing recoil than a wooden one.

Let's talk about client optimization
Evil Minion replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Two things to consider: The game is currently in alpha and explicitily stated not to be optimized. And at the time the game will be released your "mediocre gaming-laptop" (which was already mediocre when I bought mine a few years ago) will be closer to a "low-end gaming-laptop". Now that doesn't mean they should squander resources but even with an optimized game you might not be able to get the best performance here (heavily depends on how the mechanics are handled). -
The main issue is that in DayZ you have to use a specific FoV to be able to use your scope this way. This FoV value is the most important piece of information in the video. And it seems to be at a different point for the Longrange Scope* than for the PSO-1 Scope (at least for the techniques used here). *Thats the one you are looking for.

DayZ 0.5 first impression after long break
Evil Minion replied to Zing Freelancer's topic in General Discussion
Its not - its the choice you made by selecting an assault rifle. Burning through rounds quickly and needing quite some space for ammo are two of their major disadvantages. Thats one of the reason the smaller rounds were introduced - so soldiers could carry more ammo. Re-adding "ammo stacking" or greatly increasing stack size for assault weapons would be a completely unnecessary and unneeded buff. -
The best "fix" here is working persistence - because it allows you to take off your clothes without fear of losing them and everything inside to a server crash/reset.

suggestion for login dead areas around attractive areas
Evil Minion replied to kOepi (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I think there should not be fixed "dead zones" on the map but rather dynamic "dead zones" around players. They should not be too big as people should still be able to meet up ingame, log out and log in together but big enough to cover the "combat logging" issue. I made a suggestion a while back where there is a 20-40 m "bubble" around players that blocks logins (moved outside this area) and logouts (bodies do not disappear) but are only created by "active" characters - everyone in the process of logging out or who just spawned very recently should not produce one. -
Its still alpha so I officially I would say "no" - but there was quite some progress so it depends on when you stopped. Its still "running simulator 2014" and there are still many desync issues but the new survival mechanics (temperature) make it more interesting.

shoe comfort wear anyone care to explain?
Evil Minion replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
In experimental is was perfectly possible zo go without shoes if you were energized and hydrated (anyone who beat the early game is this) and stayed on roads for most of the time. Because then your health regeneration was strong enough to counteract any damage caused by your shoes. I also figured the damage is still applied if you are swimming - probably a bug. -
Thoughts on the new .50 Update...
Evil Minion replied to Schweinsteiger's topic in General Discussion
You are having flashbacks - this was the case in the former experimental build. In stable you are only experiencing boot degradation as a long term survivor (as it should be). Or you hit a bug - recall the circumstances and report then. Its autumn - what did you expect? Had this for some time but I never really made it to "Hot" - so it probably depends on movement. -
And it will get easier to find the loot you want since different people will look for different items. For example someone looting for AKM magazines will most likely keep AK101 magazines where they are.
