  1. I disagree with people who say "cannibalism should not have any drawbacks" as in gameplay terms your choice of food resurce should always have a tradeoff and human meat is just too easily available. You could even farm meat by abusing the (fast) respawn mechanics creating "industrial bambi steak". However, I agree with people who say "there should be no in game punishment for cannibalism". Which means there should not be side effects that will affect all or most of the cannibals. All the drawbacks should be risks instead - only a minority should actually suffer them but you should always have the chance to get unlucky. Sloppiness in meal preparation or prey selection should play a major role here as well: It should get higher - if you eat people who already developed accute Kuru. Eating healthy survivors should only give you a very slim chance - but always >0 even on cooked/burned meat (though significantly lower than the chance of getting Kuru from raw meat). In return if you got the sickness it should have severe consequences - something you really don't want to get. In the end both infection risk and severity needs to be balanced against the respawn mechanic to make human meat a viable but not cheap food source. Something similar but more related to hunting: I think a body (human or animal) should provide more and higher quality meat when given a clean death - also depending on size. So a deer killed by a precise headshot with a .22LR will provide lots of food while a rabbit riddled with dozens of AK bullets would provide little to no sustenace.

DayZ - Opinion on Server Hopping

Being able to switch servers is a good thing - but saving time by doing so is not. Right now gearing up using server hopping is just massively overpowered as you can travel between places far easier by hopping than by walking, especially if they are high value loot areas. Thats what needs to be toned down by attaching an appropiate cost to (excessive) server switches. As for fun - server hopping just replaces a big part of the survival and interaction gameplay with boring waiting times and mindless looting only to get to the "what now?" point much sooner. You are not supposed to be fully geared most of the time - you are supposed to struggle to get there and fail more often than not. Now there are some things still missing (more advanced survival aspects, harder PvE, an advanced loot economy etc.) and quite a few bugs so getting from low gear to high gear is less of "survive long enough while still taking risks" (as it should be) and more of "run around until you find what you are looking for" (which is more time-consuming than challenging). I think nerfing server hopping to a point where in game travel routes are more attractive than hopping and you have something to do on your travel instead of just looting one town, finding everything you need to stay alive and then running straight to the next military base. This might even reinforce itself by resulting in more interactions during travel because more people actually use the ingame routes - making ingame routes more enjoyable and less boring.

    Dynamic 3rd Person Camera

Having both perspectives to choose from. Actually the real question would be: Without peeking what is the advantage of playing on a first person server as opposed to playing on a third/first person server?
  4. I will mention again that there should be a certain risk involved when eating human meat but no direct punishment. I think it might be a good idea to reduce the risk of getting brain disease from eating somebody that did not have it should be very low but the effects of brain disease should be much more severe than just random laughter/crying when the sickness processes. In return cooked/burned meat should also a small chance to infect the consumer (maybe only if the victim was infected). I think both "eating human meat has no further ill effect" and "eating human meat should be punished by the game" are unhealthy for gameplay and its probably best to replace it with "eating human meat has a small chance of causing a severe sickness". Most cannibals should not have brain disease but they should be at risk every time they eat human meat.

    Cannibals Recognition Suggestion

No I don't think there should be visual clues. You should not necessarily be able to recognise a cannibal just as any other playstyle even though there might be more authentic drawback giving them away. Though in gameplay terms there should be a drawback to eating human meat - and thats what "brain disease" is. The chance to get it from eating uninfected people or cooked/burned human meat should be pretty low though. Its not true that steaks would not infect you - its a much lower chance but still a completely different thing from "no chance" (same applies to cooked/burned meat - prions are tough). another thing is getting other diseases the victim had when eating hi/her flesh. Given the way PC games in general and DayZ in particular work there has to be some drawback attached to eating human meat and introducing something like Kuru is a good idea. But: It should be more of a risk instead of a punishment. The brain disease should exist and it should have severe effects but it should not be too common (add more negative effects but greatly reduce the chance when eating non-diseased flesh). Most cannibals should not have brain disease but there should always be a small risk that makes you think: "Should I really eat this guy?" In short: No visual or other clues for cannibalism in general. Brain disease should be much harder to get if not eating an already infected human. Brain disease should stay permanent but also get more severe effects and stages.
  6. Good cannibals who honor their dead by eating their mortal remains getting enlightenment in the process will receive the honor of getting devoured upon their death as well. Bad cannibals who kill others for their meat and spoil it to avoid enlightenment will be put out of their misery if evidence exists.
  7. I want this to be bumped.

  9. Thats because the issue only exists on third person servers where many of the first person players don't play anyways. Just like people who like to play on private servers anyways and thus think its all that is needed to fix server hopping. In fact you are forced to play in third person on third person servers as first person simply is not a viable choice - but your choice of perspective should be based on your personal preference instead of one view giving you severe advantages. Ironically denying that peeking needs to be fixed is actually the same as forcing people into third person mode ("you can do it, too." and te likes) - which is obviously just as bad as forcing people into first persone mode - for some reason thats what people think when they are confronted with peeking. I am pretty sure the majority of players would rather play without peeking but with third person mode. Something some "third person defenders" (that are not defending the view as they try to block any improvements) are in denial about - because they fear their precious third person mode taken away from them. Guys, this won't happen as most of the first person players are only there because of the peeking (so in this reagrd first person servers actually "steal" from third person ones) and would be happy to come back if it was fixed and most of the other players prefer third person over a non-peeking environment.
  10. It's not an artificial punishment but a disease you might catch when eating human meat. You do not have to get it even - a lucky cannibal will eat all the human meat he/she likes without showing symptoms especially when only consuming it in cooked form (currently, I would like to see a very small chance of infection even on cooked/burned human meat). As you wrote there is also the possibility of someone geting force fed human meat so you really cannot say if it was intentional or not. People could go full zealot mode killing off any of those "cannibal beasts" - but here they might also catch innocents ithat got infected while missing cannibals not showing symptoms. Simply for the sake of gameplay we can assume people in Chernarus have a good chance of carrying a prion infection that may break out if their meat is digested. we could even go further and speculate its this infection preventing survivors from becoming zombies. Though I would like the infection chances to be tweaked - a low risk when consuming raw meat of people without the disease, a very low risk when consuming their meat in cooked/burned form and a much higher risk when eating the flesh of people with accute brain disease.
  11. It does not need but it may have as people seem to like it. All that is required is to avoid peeking around corners or over walls while staying invisible yourself as this is unhealthy for gameplay.

    Disable logout near military bases

Not true. Its enough to attach a sufficient cost to (rapid) switching - because the hopping ceases to be a problem once its no longer advantageous to do so. Limiting characters to a single server comes with its own drawbacks. Turning every server into a private shard is just as much as a solution as first person servers are a solution to peeking - it works for those who can cope with the disadvantages indroduced by the radical solution but its neither the only way nor the best one. The OP also does introduce a certain cost (moving out of the area and back in) but it does hit normal players about as much as server hoppers. In the end blocking logout would probably not work as people could just force a disconnect instead. So in case safe zones were intruduced they should allow logout but not login (moving the player outside the area to spawn) and warn the player about it. Also there should be dynamic safe zones around players and induced by barricaded areas (which prevents both ghosting inside locked areas and getting caught inside one by logging in).

    Is It Possible?

In case tanks were to be added (they are not needed but I think they might fit if done in the right way) they should come with all of their natural disadvantages. Which means a tank in DayZ would less be a "battlemachine of your enemies doom" and more a "big piece of metal you need to work a full year to get going, needs a full crew to operate, goes for two kilometers before running out of fuel and can approximately fire three times before it gets destroyed". Everything beyond the very basic vehicles should be a logistical nightmare to get and maintain - scale it up and we can even fit a tank into the survival gameplay (more as a possibility than anything else).

    Firearms Ranking

I would have liked to include them but I did not find all the values needed. I am also not quite sure if the damage for arrows follows the same formula as the damage for bullets and how to best factor in the much higher projectile drop.
  15. First person servers are forcing players to play in first person mode just as peeking forces players to play in third person mode. This forcing is the issue and thats why First/Third Person servers without peeking would be the best option for most players. Currently both options are limiting players which is completely unnecessary. If I had to choose between playing on a first person server and on a server allowing both first and third person as equally viable choices I would always pick the latter.
  16. There is a big misconception about "third person = peeking". Thats not the case. Its like saying "public hive player = server hopper".
  17. Evil Minion

    What about..

Good thing is you do not spawn inside areas that can be locked unless you decided to log out in such a place. Then its basically your own fault if you get locked in "while asleep". On the other side If you find yourself locked outside of "loot heaven" what about looking for a tool to break into the place and claim the reward?
  18. Its really sad that people respond to "I want third person servers to have the same basic gameplay as first person server because its more authentic and enjoyable." or "I want the choice of perspective to be a matter of preference without having massive benefits attached to one." with "You are a filthy elitist - go back to your first person server and stay there!". Why do people want to shut down any attempt to improve the gameplay on third person servers as well or make them compatible with first person? Really guys if you do like the peeking gameplay do not hide behind "not forcing players into a specific perspective" because thats exactly the opposite of what this is about.
  19. I can tell you there is - both from personal experiences and from some Youtube videos (just browse the gallery). Now I did start out with a group that abused peeking a lot, maybe the average third person player does not use it that much. Anyway thats why I moved to first person - because I got fed up with all the peeking going on and the resulting stagnant and camp-heavy gameplay. You won't see many snipers on top of high buildings or towers in first person - because in order to kill helpless freshspawns they have to expose themselves instead of stying invisible while searching for targets. And "kill on sight" often gets reduced to "shoot on sight" as the attacker doesn't get as much time for preparation. But if it doesn't really make a difference for you or the most players why not remove it? Because thats what I perceived: People love to play in third person more than they love to play without peeking but many would rather play without. So the idea is to provide the optimal conditions for the most players which is removing the peeking and making perspective a matter of preference rather than necessity. Another example is Chivalry: Most of the playerbase hates the guys who run around looking to the ground all the tme to get earlier hits - something only possible in third person mode - to the point the chat degrades into a flamefest and kickvotes are spammed. Yet people still stick to servers with third person allowed, probably because many enjoy the "normal" third person gameplay without exploiting the perspective. Hey - read it again! If anything I called first person players "noobs" and "pussies". The point is that "learn to play with peeking" and "learn to play in first person mode" are not so different from each other. There is elitism on both sides and the "hardcore" tag didn't help either. Still you should work on your sarcasm detecting skills.
  20. Because you are apparently talking to a peeking elitist who thinks people without magical obstacle denying vision skills are beneath him. And all those noobs who like the third person perspective without having to peek around every corner or having to fear that someone else does it should get some skills and adapt because immersive gameplay is for pussies. Thats basically the same as a first person elitist - but even worse from my perspective as it also promotes less authentic and less enjoyable gameplay. I wonder who people would decide if the choice wasn't first person or third person but third person or third person without peeking.
  21. Its also really rude to try to inject your play style onto other people who want to play in third person mode but without the peeking. The issue is not skill or people being able to play the way they want but the effect on general gameplay that is forced upon you if you want to play on third person servers. I can play on first person servers because I would play first person either way but many other players enjoy playing in third person while still hating the peeking - but they have no choice. Either you have to stop playing third person completely or you have to cope with peeking. Taking away the third person view because of this would be as much of an overreaction as switching to 100% private servers because of server hopping. I do not want to force people to play in first person. And I also do not want them to be forced into peeking. Both of those are quite similar in many aspects. Why can't we have a game that offers authentic gameplay and actually allows us to choose our perspective by personal preference?
  22. Let people have their crutch - just remove peeking to give the better gameplay to third person players as well and let them play with first person players instead of separating them and calling it a "solution". While I cannot know what the majority wants I know that there are quite a few third person players who do hate peeking and the resulting gameplay. Also out of the arguments for having a third person view "You can peek." only seems to be used as counter to "Others can peek.". So basically by removing peeking the debate could be ended once and for all with a statisfying solution for everyone. But right now its simply not possible to ignore third person forcing everyone who doesn't want to play "peeking simulator" on first person servers and forcing everyone who likes to play in third person to also play "peeking simulator".

    The .51 character wipe

I don't think there will be a wipe until they fixed more duping exploits or until the second iteration of the loot economy goes live. Unless they want to forec persistence on all public servers before but I doubt it.
  24. Exactly. I think most third person users would also benefit greatly fom having the peeking removed. As peeking and its gameplay implication is the only thing that keeps most players from playing on third person servers (or bashing the third person mode) I decided to submit a feature request to remove peeking from third person. If you like to play in first person mode or if you don't like the gamplay implications of peeking feel free to vote up. If you like peeking and its gameplay implications feel free to vote down.

    MELEE! grrrrrrRRRRR!

Not commenting on the OP because its presented in a way that makes me not want to read it. People like to moan or rage about everything and people tend to be clueless about things indeed. This has nothing to do with fanboyism but with keeping down stupid and pointless hatemongering for the sake of being a jerk. Some people seem to to seek for excuses to insult others and their work. They do so in an utterly unconstructive and arrogant way. Often the subject was already discussed in some length as well but as the main intention of those people is to flame they do not even bother looking for it. Other people get fed up with this constant barrage of uneducated bullshit and thats where the "Alpha!" comments come from - and sometimes they hit legitimate criticism as well. But this is not and what you are complaining about is caused by such posts.
