    Spamjoining full servers

    This happened to the Experimental servers when vehicles were first released. Otherwise the issue mainly affects private servers as people cannot access their characters otherwise - even more xso when playing with friends. The alternative is playing on public hive with server hopping still running wild. That's one reason while having only completely disconnected servers is a very bad idea. Now the public hive shows what happens if you make switching too easy... Everything in moderation.

    in defence of FOV slider

    You need a FoV option as the best FoV greatly depends on your screen and the distance to it. If your FoV does not match your screen/distance you might even feel sick because of it. This. Changing FoV on the fly only serves exploiting especially as it also changes the zoom factor - something it should not do in the first place as it makes judging distances and using reticles to do so pretty difficult. The impact on zoom should be removed. This might even void the need to remove the ingame slider.

    starvation and dehydration ridiculously unrealistic

    I suggest not at all - survival games are obviously not made for you. Otherwise you would realize that things like hunger have to be accelerated in order to have a significant and authentic (nobody plays 24/7 and characters don't consume energy when offline) effect on gameplay. Also keep in mind you most likely sprinted around for the whole 5 minutes which on it's own is pretty unrealistic but would explain what happened: You actually fell unconscious because of hypoglycemia (and newer died of starvation as you most likely just pressed the respawn button way before). You can actually survive this if you get help from others.

    Is PvP & Atmosphere Dying in DayZ SA?

    Should not need any convincing as the implications of peeking are obvious for everyone and it's pretty clear that it hurts both atmosphere and gameplay. Also there are 3pp elitists as well that seem to take pride in using this to their advantage. In fact I think most of the 1st person players would prefer to play on 1st/3rd person servers but using the 1st for atmosphere. You cannot do this right now as peeking puts you in a disadvantage (so perspective is not a matter of choice as it should be) while also warping gameplay around this mechanic (something it should not do). The OP mentions many of the issues with the current build most of which I am positive will be fixed at some point. In my opinion the core problems are the extremely low consequences for dying and the things I listed here. Basically the DayZ world being pretty empty as of now - aside from weapon who are plentiful and even received free slots so everyone can carry one or two without problems no matter their gear.

In case they add a Museum building or even just improve castles as tourist attractions (Skalisty Island?) there could (some would argue should*) be more medieval/renaissance melee weapons/replicas. we already got a Longsword and a Mace. Now those are only sidearms so it would make sense to find some types of polearm as well: Yari - there are actually quite a few similar European weapons (Spetum, Ranseur, Partisan, Swardstaff)Naginata - or better: the Russian version which name I forgotBardiche - used in Russian unitsHalberd - those things are everywhere (both Europe and East Asia)Poleaxe - the shorter version for fighting in armorSpear - simple, quite boring but very practicalPike - the probably most underrepresented melee weapon in video games

    Two questions.

    Buttstocks (and other weapon attachments) affect the accuracy of your weapon - and nothing else (unless you got a CQB stock that also increases Dexterity). Also if your stock is fixed you are out of luck: it will do nothing at all (thats why the AKM is more accurate than the SKS). Doesn't make sense but that's how the game currently works (sway is a relatively new thing). As the model is still WIP we might see attachments dhaving authentic effects at some point but right now you cannot even fold the folding stock.

    Why snipers aren't going away

    Why are there so many people with scoped rifles sitting around shooting at others? Well, it's just a consequence of the current game dynamics. Supplies are overabundant. People reach the state where they can stop worrying about survival and running around looking for them pretty fast.Firearms and ammo are overabundant. Not only makes it finding that scoped rifle easier but also increases the overall player threat as virtually everyone is able to kill you from afar without much trouble.Server hopping and freshspawn suiciding. Those two exploits pronounce the former ones and also cause a concentration of players in certain areas making it much easier for snipers to find prey.PvE is extremely weak. There is simply no threat from everything but players so people get bored and create their own action by shooting at others (which is currently the only real use for firearms).Few environmental hazards. This hurts early game cooperation and makes lone wolfing preferable to joining forces with strangers (less risk and more loot for yourself).No cooperative goals. This hurts lategame cooperation. Currently there is not much you could not do on your own and there are not many goals for players who found their high level gear other than shooting others.(Third person mode favors camping over moving around* as you can peek around and over obstacles. This makes spotting prey much easier for "snipers" and spotting "snipers" virtually impossible for others.)*Unless you are very close in which case it favors whoever has the better peeking spot or just an automatic weapon.

    Let them suicide... and spawn them nearby (mentioned details in another topic). Also increase respawn timers if this happens multiple times in a short duration (getting killed by other players does not count).In general I would like it if freshspawns had as little free power as possible: relatively low energy and hydration levelsslightly reduced blood (and maybe health) levelsminimum starting gear (~lowest tier shoes, shirt, pants and lightsource)starting gear in bad conditionstarting gear slightly randomizedno magic slots for big melee weapons and longarms (you cannot even carry two boxes of cereal - but both a rifle and a sledgehammer - what?)spawn away from other players and stashes/bases (avoids spawnkilling and easy gear up)move Novo/Cernaya Polana spawns to the far northeast (Berezhki etc.)

    How do you solve the heating problem with ghillie?

    This is always a tricky one as it depends on the time you spend playing. In general you want body functions and wear to be accelerated for authenticity: Players should roughly care about those things as real people would in real life. Now your character is not online 24/7 so you have to make up for that during the time she is played (because offline energy/water drain is stupid). Now if you are playing significantly longer than average you might have to worry more but in general "realism" would actually hurt "authenticity" here.

    How do you solve the heating problem with ghillie?

    This. To solve the heating problem you should use the Ghillie how it is supposed to be used - to lie flat on your belly not moving at all. Now the most obvious and practical solution to overheating on travel is to replace your Ghillie with a backpack - as long as you are moving it doesn't do that much anyways. You can stash your Ghillie inside the bigger versions and use it if you go for a camping trip. Currently it's okay if you have frequent access to water to get back hydration and cool off. Now in the future running around in wet clothes might be less viable because of disease. Then it might be the best to take it off when you do not need it.

    Action!- Gameplay recording and streaming

    I used Open Broadcaster Software to record a few short videos. It worked but only if I started it on the right GPU - otherwise it would only record the sound. Not sure if it still works on 0.54 though.

    PM73 RAK... any good?

    I can find .380 Auto everywhere (similar to .357 Magnum and 7.62x54mmR) while 9mm seems to be much rarer - just like the other rounds for automatic weapons. I think that's pretty much the use of this weapon: It's the only full auto weapon that can be supplied without having to go for high value loot spots. Aside from small handling advantages it's otherwise inferior to the MP5 or AKS74U.

    "Hot"-Status

    Clothing, weather and movement are major factors. If you are wearing a ghillie suit at a sunny day while sprinting you will get hot really fast. The ghillie is "worst" in this regard as it replaces your backpack which doesn't do much in terms of keeping you warm but other clothing (quilted jacket etc.) can alos cause the "hot" status (which isn't that bad if you have regular access to water).

    I can see having a "panic button" would be less clunky than having to choose "cancel" out of an action list. Maybe doing certain things could also cancel actions. In any way I think your character shouldn't bother with putting away that item and instead just drop it to the ground asap.

    Second primary weapon

    Remove the magic slots, add gun slings, a belt to tuck in handguns, a stamina system and I have no problem with carrying two longarms on your back (with slings of course). Before that: No way - there is already way too much free power on players.

    realistic stamina system in a function

    Static means given you know everything that happened up to a point you can calculate the fatigue. Dynamic would mean you have to know the former state and then you can calculate fatigue according to what you just did without knowing the history behind it. Now it's quite possible to transform them the way you just wrote. I admit I understood it as 2604 points that could be used either way but I like it more with those 4 stages. So basically something like: 10416 stamina point maximum7812+ you can use them for everything (drain per second depending on speed according to table)<7812 you cannot sprint (red not allowed)<5208 you cannot run (blue not allowed)<2604 you can only walk ("orange" not allowed)at 0 you collapseNow the issue I can see here is that this would completely block sprinting as soon as you reach 25% fatigue while you could still run for ~2000 meters and then jog for another ~5000 meters. So my idea would be to turn it around: you got 10416 stamina points2604 can only be used for walking2604 can be used for jogging and also walking in case the former 2604 points are depleted2604 can be used for running and the former if their respective pools (2604 for jogging, 5208 total for walking) are depletedthe last 2604 can be used for everything but are reserved for sprinting as long as there are other points availableStill not perfect but it allows for a more flexible use as you would only be stopped from sprinting at 25% fatigue if you used your full sprinting pool before (and in consequence all other pools are still full). Here regeneration comes in. Depending on how you plan to do this the dynamics will change: Starting with the most specialized (walking) pool would basically result in a similar system to the first: Sprinting stays disabled until you reach 7812 points.Starting with the most general (sprinting) would basically convert stamina to "better types" so you can regenerate your sprinting pool by not sprinting and staying above 2604 stamina.You could also regenerate in all pools equally to get a hybrid and maybe......stop regenerating some pools as you drop below a certain total (e.g. sprinting pool only regenerates at 7812 or above).Finally you should keep in mind that regeneration works against fatigue so you have to adjust your values accordingly (which gets more complicated the more complex your regeneration system is).
  22. @1: I do not really like the bias towards fighting. Why are you able to log out freely when being stalked but not when being shot at? Why aren't you able to log out after you killed the last zombie in the area? Why would you bother with that message instead of just cutting the connection? Would people abuse the message if possible (e.g. to determine if players are near)? I think it's better to make the whole protection proximity-based. When loggig out it is always possible to do it but you will leavea body behind (just like it is now). If there are active players (not recently spawned and not logging out themselves) in a certain area around you the timer until you disappear will tick down at half speed. If there are active players very close to you (~inside the same building) the timer will stop completely. You cannot log into another server while your character is still on another but you can instantly log back into the old one (taking over the character who is still around). @2: No need. Freshspawns don't have much to lose in the first place and surviving other players is part of the game as well. Not to mention that spawn protection is one of the most unauthentic and frustrating features for everyone but the protected. To avoid spawnkills there should simply be loads of spawn points and players should tend to spawn away from: other playerstents/bases/stashes/barricaded areastheir own place of deathThe last point mght be inverted for players who died a short time after respawning. Here the bias should be towards the place they died (but still away form other players).

    realistic stamina system in a function

    Okay this seems to be a static system to determine distance, time or mass from a given maximum work. Works well for showing how it should be and it seems the Arma 3 fatigue system has a very similar foundation. However, in a game you do not need a static system but a dynamic one that automatically adjusts to what is happening. Recovery does play a major role here as does the question what a certain fatigue level actually means. For example in the Arma 3 video 100% fatigue meant significant weapon sway and maybe a slight speed decrease (not sure whether or not you still can run or sprint). Now 100% fatigue could also mean exhaustion and collapsing.

    Respawning randomly near city choice

    I don't like the idea. Sure it would be nice to spawn (relatively) close to friends but there are disadvantages to this as well: Having your group members of choice available immediately (and most likely a psychic link as well) significantly increases the powerlevel of the freshspawns in question and might reduce the need to cooperate with strangers. You also lose one of your early game objectives as you do not need to meet up with your friends. Then choosing your respawn area has some significant disadvantages: It's abusable in a way that allows players to spawn closer to their body/tent regearing faster which makes death less impactful (sure freshspawn suicide does the same but why make it even easier - if anything make freshspawn suiciding harder or pointless*) and skips parts of the game. And as a pre-game choice it should be subject to balancing which is extremely hard to do at this complexicity and would probably reduce the diversity of gameplay if successful. *Like respawning freshspawns close to the place they died (as freshspawns).
