So how much of a thrill do you cheaters get when playing DayZ?
gearjammer replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
You deserve that engraved 1911 just for that. -
I'm not one for spoiling someones game without reason so I would vacate the area once I was sure it was safe.

If you're going to play pacifist in this game you better come up with some sunscreen and surf boards as you'll be spending a lot of time on the beach.

I think they should fix it by giving 7.62X51 better wall penetration. :)

Are zombies really the hardest part of the game?
gearjammer replied to Schuey's topic in New Player Discussion
Quickly switch to first person and drop bombs on em. Circle around them and punch them in the noggin. They drop with one punch and usually stay down after three. I find this the easiest way to handle multiple Zeds as well... Just send em sprawling. Even if I have a melee weapon, the first shot is almost always with fists as I use the time they're picking themselves back up to get my weapon out. I've been enjoying the one-hand weapons as of late. The hammer makes a wonder tune when you knock them on the skull, and the stabbing animation with the bayonet, Kitchen knife, or even screw driver is also amusing. I wish they didn't have the ability to wreck all your stuff with one hit though. It's silly that you don't have a scratch on you but you're practically reduced to your underwear after a zombie encounter. -
Took a break ~3months ago, came back today and...
gearjammer replied to Kushko's topic in General Discussion
I find myself completely unable to empathize with these sorts of posts. I've experienced all the same stuff. I've fallen through stairs to my death losing all my bad ass pristine gear, and I've been hit by invisible glitched zombies that are still 1000 meters away, destroying stuff that I just looted. (Tactical vests have about a 14 second life span for me). I also brought a friend into the game and nothing went well for him. He got killed immediately after spawning a few times, then spawned North of Svet and ran inland. Saw the signs for New Dmitridorsk and ran to it only to find streets with no buildings. He logged off and has never been back. None of it ruins my fun. I may be frustrated by something for a second, but every game has something that frustrates me. -
I'm not sure if my first kill is my first kill. My first day in the game I made the mistake of shooting a zombie in electro. Some dude ran up and yelled friendly, hold your fire and attacked me with an axe. I pumped two rounds from my SKS into him, but he killed me. I never saw him go down, so I never knew if he died too or not. My first confirmed kill happened last week. After a few KoS experiences I learned to be more cautious. I came across a fairly fresh spawn, like me, in the police station in Staroye. I was tucked in behind the spiral steps when he came down them. I had my mosin trained on him and asked if he was friendly... As if he would tell me if he wasn't. He acted friendly and very helpful, he kept offering me things and was trying to get close to me. I just knew something was up... He kept his splitting axe on his back though so I didn't feel threatened enough to pop him. Eventually he said he was going to head out and started to walk away. He then asked if I had a can opener or anything that would open cans because his guy was starving. He had an axe on his back! Really? I was ready to shoot when he approached with his axe drawn. I shot him square in the middle of the chest, saw the blood fly out and figured that would be lights out for him. Nope, he still got at least one hit on me with the axe before I got a second round into him; another sign that he wasn't starving... A stiff breeze kills you when you're in that state in this game. Even after two rounds in the chest he laid on the floor in the unconscious position while I bandaged myself. I thought about shooting both his legs and patching him up and leaving him crawl around in his underwear, but in the end I just put him down like the dishonorable mongrel that he was. His bag was filled with food, drink, and a kitchen knife... He did have a 9mm pistol mag, but other than that it looked like I had just killed a wandering chef. This guy was either trying to kill me for my rifle or he was trying to kill me for fun... He was not desperate for food or drink.

You fall through the steps.

I have the A-10 5800K and it's running pretty decent. I found it helpful to go into my bios and specify how much video ram for the onboard graphics to use... It's default setting is 512mb. It is supposed to automatically increase it on demand, but it still seems to run better. I am still only high 20's in the wild and drop like a stone to the teens in the cities. I even saw 0 FPS once so... I have almost everything on normal except shadows and clouds. I ordered an R9 280 from Newegg this morning. I currently have my CPU overclocked to 4ghz... It wasn't stable at 4.2, but maybe with the new GPU and the onboard disabled I will be good to go or maybe won't even need it. Yours is not that far off from my setup so I think you can manage... especially if you turn some things down.

What items that currently spawn are considered "Rare loot" atm
gearjammer replied to TheLast-StaR's topic in General Discussion
I just found a quiver yesterday. No crossbow though. -
Are melee weapons supposed to do no damage or are zombies just very resistant?
gearjammer replied to Raoul9753's topic in New Player Discussion
Body shots seem to do nothing... Have to hit em in the noggin. I have taken a liking to the hammer, it's especially hilarious in first person view. It takes about 2-3 shots to kill them but it swings fast and I find it amusing. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
gearjammer replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I get a laugh out of how far they will run to get to you. They run all that way just to get punched in the face or shot. They can't seem to actively acquire you either as they always go to the spot you were last in. When I run away I stop about ten feet apart three times, and by the time they stop and sniff at those three spots I am halfway to Berenzino where I'll die in a hail of bullets anyways. -
I've always wondered if that was the case because I can hear sound while I am at the "please wait" screen. One time I even heard people speaking and thought for sure I would be a goner. Now I always crawl inside a pine tree to log out.

I tried Hardcore for the first time last night and just had a blast. I spawned in Solnichny quickly beat down three zombies by hand before finding a splitting axe for more zombie mayhem. I find it much easier to kill them in first person. I headed towards three valleys along the tracks and turned around and saw another fresh spawn duck behind a tree. I waved and spoke to him but he stayed in hiding. Probably hoping to sneak up and knock me out for my ax and empty B95. He followed me almost all the was to Kamyshovo but I was able to sprint away and he lost sight of me. I stood behind a tree when he walked right up to me, and I did my best Jack Torrance impersonation when I jumped out and hit him with my axe. Only he must not have seen that movie and just ran away as quickly as he could. I bet I scared the crap out of that dude though.

I think your "friends" killed you. Avenge yourself! It's happened just once to me and it was exactly because I was on a dodgey server with a catchy name. I was all looted up and the sun went down, developed a strong hate for using a flashlight so I switched servers. It said something about the character was unable to be loaded so it was reset. Oh well, right back at it.

My last life ended for that reason coupled with my own noobness. I was searching for sticks or morphine to repair a broken arm and didn't notice a zombie. He hit me and caused me to bleed, and after dispatching him I found that I could not bandage. I assumed that this was a mechanic associated with the broken arm so I searched frantically for sticks to make a splint. I was rushing through every shed, garage, or industrial building that I could find until I eventually bled out. A few days later I learned that this was not the case and I could have just logged out and fixed it later or joined another server and bandaged.

I prefer having much of the PVP centered in Berenzino than have the entire coast a war zone.
-
I was near Kamyshovo and gave some food and drinks to a fresh spawn. He ran into the police station and a few minutes later was on the roof shooting at me with an SKS. Now when I see a weapon that I don't need, I pick it up and ditch it in a pine tree or something. I always close doors too as I would rather people think that no one is around instead of being on high alert.

So i have come to the conclusion that dayz really is supposed to be PVP
gearjammer replied to dtrain7055 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
That pretty much sums up my gameplay as of right now. Spawn, get healthy, find guns, start trouble. -
Will not be playing again until fire axe is un-nerfed
gearjammer replied to DAUFvice's topic in General Discussion
Once I have guns I don't even carry a melee weapon.. -
I have not seen the amphibia mentioned. I love it for quick disposal of zombies. I do wish it didn't have the Hiroshima size muzzle flash though... that's a little ridiculous. It's a stealthy silenced pistol with a meteoric ball of flame coming out the end of it. I don't have much of a preference for a long gun at the moment. I find the SKS more plentiful and easier to keep fed, but I want to try the others out more in the future.

I hope not. I got bored and spent two hours at the NWAF looking for trouble. I looked at every piece of loot, shot every zombie, and spent a bunch of time just running around in the open around the hangars and prison. Nothing... No pot shots, not a soul to confront. I figure all 25 people on had to be on the coast so I started heading that way. I didn't make it much past Gorka before I said screw it and went to bed. Hopefully I can get myself into some action tonight.

I had the greatest encounter with bandits last night. Since I am a noob, I wanted to explore black castle. I was double timing it along a treeline when I happened to glance across and see some dudes hauling ass to catch up to me. I broke into full sprint through the woods and crouched and crawled my way up a hill to a better vantage point. I still wound up at the castle, but was heading up top hoping to rain some bullets down on them when the server reset. They never appeared after that so it never played out... I would still like to thank them for some awesome gameplay even if it did end dumb. I can appreciate bandits and snipers for what they bring to the game. Hackers can go suck it... After it got dark everyone left the server. I thought I had free range of NWAF with a flashlight, but someone opened fire on me as I casually approached the ATC. Once I scrambled back to safety I looked and was still the only one on the players list. I fully expect to get shot at an airfield and even though I was the only one on I still expected a server hopper to jump in at any second. If I had seen another name after I had been shot at, I might have played that through and tried to find them. Since I didn't see one I could only expect some hacker BS so I just snuck away into the woods and logged off for the night.

That's key right now. On my current life, I was formidably geared up within 30 minutes. If it were harder to come by I might be more apt to join the KoS crowd as I'd be more keen on keeping my stuff, my stuff.

Why do some players do everything possible to avoid interaction?
gearjammer replied to mithrawndo's topic in General Discussion
I recently learned that my mic wasn't set up properly so a lot of people that I've tried to talk to couldn't hear me. This possibly could have contributed to my first death as the guy was talking to me and I thought I was talking back when he hauled off and hit me with an axe. I also would never stick around to chat once I am dead. What's the point? I am clicking respawn within seconds of the "You are dead" message. Finally, and most importantly, I just don't care. Looting up is what I am enjoying most right now so if I am dead I am back to doing what I enjoy. In that situation I wouldn't talk either... I'd corner camp the top floor and stay quiet waiting for you to come up the stairs. Talking to you only let's you know that I am still there... If I am silent the thought that I may have logged off will creep into your head.
