I'm 43, have a wife and two boys. I work about 55-60 hours a week under a tremendous amount of stress. I try to set a few hours aside each night to drink a metric shit-ton of beer and play Dayz. I find that the post-apoloyptic virtual world of DayZ is somehow much more relaxing than my current actual reality.

It's almost like people want to be fished in.

I try to stay positive with difficult players. I prefer to think of it as sending them on a nice, all-inclusive, beach vacation.

I've never found an AK magazine in the wild either. I acquired a few through the judicous use of a good ole winchester repeater though.

It's frustrating but these kids likely have a better perspective on the game than many of us do. They take risks, engage everything, and have fun with whatever they have. On the other hand there's 40 year-old nerds server-hopping looking for the ultimate in cool loot, that lose their minds when they get killed.

I play with headphones, and my wife has heard a few one-sided interactions that could be considered quite negative. One such encounter involved a point blank execution of a corner camper that blasted me with a shotgun, ruining my clothes. I talked to him for a minute telling him that shotguns were broken, it didn't even make me bleed, etc. She walked in and only heard me telling the guy that he ruined my shirt, and then I shot him in the head. I got a little lecture about how the game brings out the worst in me and that I had just executed a stranger over a shirt.

Your frustration all stems from being new. If you just push through the unfamiliarity you will enjoy yourself a whole lot more.

I told a friend that you could jump from one side of Riffy to the other. Hilarity ensued.

I've been too busy to play much lately, and after several character resets I decided to let my son play. He's a big-time COD nerd and pretty much plays dayz that way. He runs right out in the open, wearing whatever he has found, and shooting indiscriminately with whatever he has. He gives zero shits about anything and perhaps has a better perspective on the life/death cycle in this game than I did. It's more fun to find cool stuff and use cool stuff, than it is to just have cool stuff.

I beat feet immediately... Most players aren't that successful at hitting a moving target so I just haul ass. I don't even bother circling back for revenge as I believe almost everyone expects that. This has failed me at least once, and I have been wounded a few times, but it puts me in control of my situation so I will roll the dice.

I'm not going to be more trusting because you're a girl. I don't see what the difference is in this game, honestly. You're virtual bullets do the same damage as anyone elses, and gender does not have any bearing on how you press that left mouse button.

Sounds to me like this is a common thing for you. You're not playing a survival game, you're playing a victim simulator! Grow a set of nuts and fight for your life, instead of bowing down to every 14 year-old boy that finds a zucchini. Or maybe you're truly into the handcuffs and torture... If that's your thing, so be it.

But you're alt tabbed out reading the forum instead of actually interacting with your captors. These people are playing psychopath on a video game, so I will act like one in real life and obstruct their enjoyment without remorse for my own. I'm not going to submit to someones circle jerk. I would have to be taken completely by surprise to wind up in such a scenario, but if I were to find myself at such a disadvantage I am not going to play along.

How altruistic of you to let them wreck your gaming session out of concern for theirs. Personally I say screw them and their silly games... I will never comply with any order.

If that is the case I am worried that when they do synch up my extremely well geared character is going to be replaced by the one that I was playing last night that is pretty spartan. Well, that's a lie... I don't really give a shit.

How do you lose faith in a game? Are you concerned that Dayz will not provide for your unborn child? Do you think that Dayz will pilfer money from your wallet for drugs? Is it that this video game may abandon you at the first sign of trouble? Is it that Dayz may bang your alcoholic girlfriend while you're at work? This is a game... It either entertains you or it doesn't; no faith required.

I figured I was just reset with the update. I had been only playing exp and when I updated and logged onto one of my favorite regular servers I was a fresh spawn.

I found mine on a dumb-ass named Gary. Gary needs to either learn to check pulses, or know the leg position difference between people that are unconscious or dead

All the servers are currently hiding in a wall at the NEAF.

I loot up, find some like-minded people, and then I go get in some trouble. There's 12,000 people playing Standalone right now according to steam, and only 115 people playing the mod.

I used to choose low pop servers when I was learning my way around. Now I have a bad habit of not even looking and just choosing one from my history. Usually I wind up joining right before it gets dark and everyone leaves anyways.

I would like to assault Berezino with a MK 19. I'd love to do this at maximum range too, if at all possible, so that all of the hackers can simply stand inside their hacker walls, with frowns on their little hacker faces, as I rain HE rounds in on them by the bucket-full. A more reasonable request would be for tear gas. One would think that it would be fairly easy to acquire inside a police station.

I am kind of shocked over the sheer number of people that need to step back and take a reality break. LOL. One on hand we have people that extol the virtues of another game, but take offense when it is recommended that they go play that game. The only game that I am aware of that is possible exclusive to any other game is Russian Roulette. You can play more than one game people! Then we have people that are looking deeply into their computer for an experience in reality. Hardcore survival depending on the proper sequence of button clicks executed from the comfort of your computer chair. They can't give you reality as the concussive blast of combat would destroy your home, and the reality of bullet physics is that they fold your ass up.

Thanks for that link... Looks amazing. I will move up to that version once it is out. I don't think it takes anything away from standalone yet. It is what it is, and truth be known, I don't think we even know what it is going to be. This current build of SA looks more like a hodgepodge of test mechanics. I've got my moneys worth of fun and entertainment out of it, and look forward to the next chapter. I have a wife, two kids, and a career that places a high demand on my time; I just don't have the free time for games like I used to. It has to be interesting and it has to be fun for me. I've played Wow for almost 10 years because I have always looked forward to what is coming next. The next expansion is basically rehashing an expansion from 7 years ago, so I am out... done. I'm playing Dayz now because I want to see what is next. It will stay relevant for me until Bohemia runs into the same problem Blizzard has run into where their development just ran out of gas.

What I like most about 1.8.1 is that my machine can beast on it. I have FPS to spare, no matter what... I don't think I've been below 60 frames yet. The zeds are the sole focus of the game now, as they're a roadblock to everything else. Scavenging draws zeds, PVP draws zeds, eating or drinking draws zeds... How to deal with it? 1) Stealth - Can sneak past them pretty well. Crouching and crawling works well, but it is slow going. I have grown tired of playing a 15 minute game of cat and mouse with NPC over a can of sardines. 2) Shoot them - Well that draws more zeds, and getting ammo requires another 15 minute game of cat and mouse. 3) Melee - No way, no how. Way too risky... You will miss far more often than Zed will and even one hit will leave your screen washed out for a long time. Blood bags are screwed up, and not likely to happen with the lack of players now. 4) Run - Some fun can be had doing this. They get lost easy and are easily trimmed off by cutting around corners. The problem is that you're likely to pick up one of those infected mofos, and they can run like they just stole something. They hang right on your six and can hit you/ To make mattes worse is that their aggro seems to create more aggro to the zeds that would normally get lost in the turns so you have a big 'ole pain train following you through town. That leads me to the last method: 5) Lure them to dying ground - Sound tactic, right from the Sonshi, as there are certain areas where super-zed has some issues. Any admin will consider it glitching and probably have a terse word with you should you be caught doing that. You may even get banned, although I can't imagine that someone renting an empty server is going to want to ban anyone right now. Personally, I don't like them and I am not very happy with the mod right now. I enjoy team-mates and I enjoy adversaries. The AI will never match the level of play that you will get from another player, and with the zeds sucking the fun out of the game after a few hours, other people just aren't playing. They'll be fixed on the next patch, but I've read that's over two weeks away. Sorry that I got a red-ass over this, but that's a long time. Switching back to the older versions is somewhat of a hassle with this steam transition, and the thought of switching back for two weeks, and then taking another chance on the next patch isn't the most appealing.
