Sometimes I want to see if there is anything happening on the island before I make that long swim. But with it being over 1km in distance it's just a guess and could be a huge risk.

I just went back and there were books EVERYWHERE as well as all kinds of crazy loot.

I noticed this last night. I ran around the wilderness for 45 minutes before I realized that the problem wasn't me, but my compass. It seemed to be off by 180 degrees. I made the long trip from NEAF to Alcatraz Island. Well worth it. Found awesome gear. As well as an MP5-K, SKS, AK74, and MP-133. There were so many rooms and doors that my head was spinning. This is definitely going to become Deathmatch Island.

After having a character for a very long time I was completely geared up with great gear and weapons. I found a couple new spawns on the coast. I approached them, held the gun to my head and told them they can have my gear. Then I killed myself for them.

I never KoS. I'm actually very much against it and play lonewolf. But, as much as it can suck when it happens to us, we have to remember that it is a legitimate play-style. In a real life post-apocalyptic scenario there will be people doing this. There may not be many, but there will be some. Whether they be evil, insane, scared, starving, dying of thirst, freezing cold, or just greedy for loot, it will happen. Whenever someone kills me on sight my first reaction is anger. Not at the KoS'er, but at myself. If you get KoS'd, more times then not you are doing something wrong. You either engaged a stranger without having the upper hand, wandered around without having your head on a swivel, trusted strangers too soon, or entered an area that was high risk when it could have been avoided. Bottom line: If you hate KoS (much like I do) then play as if you only had one chance like in real life. Ever since doing this I can't remember the last time I was a victim of KoS.

Found one the other day. Went cruising through Berezino like a boss.

I keep getting messages in red text saying that my leg is in pain. And my screen is black and white like im on the verge of death. But my character status says hydrated and healthy. No mention of injury or anything. And im able to sprint, jump, etc just fine. Been like this for several hours. Any thoughts?

Yeah, I noticed this a while back. I was on the walkway of the tower at Green Mountain and I wanted to attract people. So I lit a fire up there and burned like 4 flares all at once. I climbed down, ran across the field, looked back at it, and nothing. Completely dark.

Ummm, yeah, thats exactly what I meant. You must have misunderstood my post. In a real life situation where all hell breaks loose you can be sure most knowledegable people will initially hunker down and make sure they and their close loved ones are safe (preppers). But, eventually (sooner than later) these preppers need to expand out and band together to form larger groups of trusted people "farmers, chemists, doctors, weavers, blacksmiths, armorers, etc" and form a community.

Humans are social creatures. Generally, most will eventually crave interaction. Some however, are content with being completely alone. Albeit, a very small portion of the real population. In a real SHTF/EOTWAWKI situation solitude (with supplies) is a good thing. But, eventually the end game is to seek smaller trusted groups that turn into larger trusted groups.

We should start building a team now. Several people to model, several people for textures/shaders, etc.

The sad part is that posting to this forum will pretty much do nothing to solve the KoS problem. Last I checked (which was a while ago) DayZ Stand Alone had > 2 million members. This forum has < 200k members. Basically, all of our KoS complaints reach only < 10% of the people playing. The other > 90% of people playing who aren't members of this forum are the ones killing us on sight.

Does anything spawn there besides canned food?

Symmetrical texture/texture mapping for the blood on the back of the arms, front of knees and back of legs. That should be changed.

Of course there is always a chance. Your chances are very much reduced being in the middle of nowhere though. No one has come across me by a fire yet.

Stars are good for navigating, too.

There is no etiquette. If you play like it's real life (as I do) you recon from a far distance with binoculars and gather useful intel. If you play to be a douche then you run up and kill them all. Personally, if I'm sitting around a fire, it's going to be so deep in the woods that no one will ever see me. If you sit around a fire in the open to the point where people will see you then you should expect death.
