Got lost in the woods up north, no map, no compass and had no idea where I was, I knew I was off the map because trees stopped spawning. I could see the sea in the distance so headed in that direction when I came across 5 or 6 tents. No one around so looted them and found almost everything I could've wanted other than a ghillie suit and NVG. When I eventually got back to the map proper I was sniped in the head near Stary. Oh well! Last night I found a dead player at the NE airstrip who had a M16A2 M203 with plenty of ammo. Thanks mate!

I cant really see an influx of people coming into the game from that vid tbh. They made it look a bit shit.

I've not read the whole thread so dont know if anyone has mentioned this yet, But I tried the single player mission before it was taken down and to be honest it was very boring knowing the only threat was zombies. I was somewhere up north last night and the paranoia of having to cross an open field in daylight is why this game is so good. You dont get that if other players arent a threat. Whenever I come across a new town or village the first thing I do is get my binoculars out and scan the tree lines, check the buildings, constantly looking over my shoulder. Zombies are a distraction, its the other players that get the heart racing.

Good post. I've been using the axe as my primary lately, as long as you are crouched and keep a little bit of distance between you and the zombie then you can take them out without getting hit, and it will not aggro the horde. I got lost in the woods up north last night and stumbled across some tents, no-one was around so I looted everything I needed but did not take any weapons other than a hand gun (and they had a lot of weapons), the axe is my new best friend.

Another player helped me get into a barn full of zombies, although he didnt realise it. I had been scoping the place out for a while when I noticed another player crawling towards it, so I hung back and watched. He was spotted by the zombies pretty quickly, stood up and legged it. All 4 zombies that were inside the barn and some others that were outside chased him, I've no idea what happened but a few minutes later I saw '(playername) has died' in the bottom left of the screen. 'Ha! nice one mate', strolled into the barn, found 2 dead players, looted them, grabbed what I needed and strolled out. Good things come to those who wait.

Highly agree with the OP. I've spent hours playing this today and havent died once (yet). Granted, I've only covered a short distance during that time (spent a good 2 hours just trying to get in and out of a barn without being spotted) but I've got enough kit to survive for a few days now and it was highly rewarding.

NO I've been playing all afternoon, I dont know what everyone is moaning about tbh. It's a lot harder, but so it should be.

I played EVE for 4 years so Im well aware of the term carebears. The only people you can call carebears in DayZ are the ones who do not want PVP, they want to be able to team up, loot the cities and only worry about zombies not other players. I've only been playing a week and so far have avoided other players like the plague, if I come across another player I will not shoot on sight, but that doesnt make me a carebear, it makes me a survivor. The whole reason this game is fun for me is the threat from other players, take that away and your left with LFD on a big map.
