Gear vanishing if dragging new item to inventory
too-easy replied to Kayback's topic in General Discussion
Yup, you can find them usually one floor below. If you're unlucky they move to a place where you can't see them anymore. Happens quite often. -
how to navigate to big cities without signs/compass/map when it is day?
too-easy replied to thomas05's topic in New Player Discussion
Follow rail tracks or power lines (the big ones) to get to a bigger town. And what the others said. Explore and one day you will know the whole map. -
I have got to be the unluckiest player in DayZ
too-easy replied to WilliamTheConqueror's topic in General Discussion
I see it similar as Bororm. Don't get too frustrated, you will learn how to read people over the time. I never hold people up, but if neither of us starts to shoot immediately I will try and talk to them (if I'm in the mood). I even put my weapon on my back if he does the same. I'm usually with a friend and since my English is better than his, I do the talking and trading while he watches my back and the surroundings. I do kill on sight as well. It really depends on the situation and location. Like last time when we were starting to starve and met a newspawn. No way he could have food, so we killed him to eat him. Was the first time I ever killed someone to eat him. -
Multi-Person Mechanics to discourage KOS
too-easy replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
Those are really great ideas here. One easy thing to do would be increase the deadliness of the infected. Some places could be so infested that a lone wolf could never make it out alive, or only with heavy weapons. I actually had a situation when I was a newspawn and met another newspawn who was being chased by an infected. I yelled to him to run to me and we killed it together with our fists. He gave me food as a thank you and our ways parted. If infected were more dangerous people would have to work together more. But compared to your ideas, mine sounds pretty obvious and lame. lol -
I can confirm that you can't improve sharpened sticks with bones. Tried it and that didn't work. Need feathers first.
-
12 rags are what you need for the improvised rope. The rest you can get from the nature. Best source are wool dresses. You get 6 rags from one dress when you tear it up.
-
No, a bowstring can only be made of a (crafted) rope or from the guts of bigger animals, not chickens. My guess is, that feathers improve the improvised arrows, but I killed a guy with one shot of an sharpened stick as an arrow. Chickens can be easily killed with a stone knife. All other animals are too fast. The guts of chickens can't be used as a bowstring.
-
It took me ten minutes from spawning to craft a bow and arrows. You don't need feathers at the moment for arrows. Just sharpen a stick. If you want feathers you don't need to find a chicken. Just go to one of the many chicken coops (spelling?) and you'll find feathers there.

Debating coming back, where can I see. 57 change log?
too-easy replied to venkman302's topic in General Discussion
It's much better. A lot more stuff to do like crafting and farming. You can craft all you need for surviving. Don't need to depend on luck finding the right stuff. Still a long way to go, though. -
You don't need ashwood trees anymore. You can just go to any tree and cut off a branch with a knife. This will give you a long stick to craft a bow with. You don't need feathers either. Just sharpen a short stick and you can already shoot with it. Killed a guy with one shot like this (very short distance). I actually totally forgot about the feathers yesterday. I guess that's why I couldn't improve my arrows with bones.

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
too-easy replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
@Mercules: It is a strange thing and it really gets so bad that I have to stop playing to avoid throwing up. Tried turning off head bobbing. Didn't help. Will try again when we get to beta or release. @topic: There were 5(!) 1pp servers with a ping under 200 in my list today and loads of 3pp servers; too many to count. ;) -
How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
too-easy replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
Even though I am only quoting this part, I do agree with many things you wrote. I am not against 1pp, I just don't like it when some people don't seem to accept other people's oppinions. The thing with my motion sickness is pretty inconsistent. Some games cause it, others don't. I have been playing games for about 20 years and the first game that caused the sickness was Half Life 2. I play Crysis, the Far Cry games and many more without a problem. Only very few games like Half Life 2 and now DayZ cause the sickness. When DayZ is done I will try 1pp again and hope they changed something to fix my problem with 1pp. The thing is that I have no idea what exactly is causing it. I tried several settings. -
How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
too-easy replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
(I couldn't figure out how to split up the quote in this forum (HTML didn't work), so I have to answer without splitting it up.) Why is it so hard to grasp that this is your own oppinion? It is not a fact or the truth. Why are you even bringing this argument, when you already know that I am physically unable to play in 1st person? It is not fun to throw up while playing a game, so it WOULD ruin my fun if they were to remove 3rd person. ;) I would LOVE to be able to play 1st person, but I love playing 3rd person, too. 3rd person has its challenges, too. People still get ambushed easily and you have to learn how to deal with the "exploit" you are all so agitated about.^^ Following the logic of your kindergarten example: Are you saying that no matter which way I play DayZ the result would be the same? :P If I were able to convince my kids that they would get something really great if they can solve the math problem, while they wouldn't if they'd just sit still, they all would try to solve the math problem. Only very few would choose the easy way. It's a matter of how to motivate them. But since it's the same in DayZ, I don't see why you made this comparison.^^ To be serious, everybody who thinks his own oppinion is the truth should reflect more about himself. It is great to have a big confidence, but when people try to convince other people that only they know the truth and others are all wrong, dangerous things can happen. The fact that some people shout "witch" doesn't make it true. Just look around and see what people did and do to each other (holocaust, crusade, christianization in Africa, jihad...). Those are extreme examples, but very similar to what happens here in a much smaller scale. At least in the last part you said that "you think" that I would have more fun. Finally accepting that this is YOUR oppinion. I appreciate that you are trying to make my experience in DayZ better (no sarcasm here), but as it is now, this is not going to happen. Maybe when it is more optimized I will be able to feel the fear of 1st person again; without getting sick. When the SA came out I had one 3rd person character and one 1st person character. 3rd person was for teamplay and pvp, 1st person was for survival and friendly interaction (if possible). -
I disagree. Early access is like a kickstarter campaign. They use the money for development and hope to earn money with the finished product. Game development has always the risk of people not liking the game and the developer might lose money due to that. DayZ is hyped a lot and I am pretty sure that many people are going to buy it when it is finally finished. Many people don't like to play alpha or beta versions of a game and rather wait a bit longer.

too-easy replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
:DYour whole post was like: "We all know this and that" "3pp is this and that" If you voice an oppinion you should say: "I think that..." "In my oppinion..." See the difference? ;) I think it's interesting that the 1pp elitists are trying so hard to ruin the fun of the 3pp players? Why is that? Who are they to say how DayZ has to be played? Are they scared that the masses don't care about them? Don't come with that silly realism argument in a computer game. I am 100% sure that if we'd ask all players around the world, which mode they prefer most of them would say 3pp. And it'd have nothing to do with peeking... I liked both but since I got sick (I would have thrown up , if I hadn't stopped playing) from playing 1pp lately, I don't really have a choice. But you don't care about those people, right? You are like some of my kindergarten kids who don't have brothers or sisters and don't understand that other kids have the right to voice their oppinion and play with that cool toy, too. So now we even have 1pp players on the forums who create multiple accounts to seem more people. lol Edit: And to those people who say things like: "A real man/pro/hardcore player plays 1pp or he is a noob." I say: A real man plays what ever the **** he wants and doesn't care if people don't like it. -
the problem with dayz: not dank enough
too-easy replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
The "zombies" in DayZ are not undead, just very sick people. AKA the "infected". So my guess is that they drink water. Or maybe human and animal blood is enough to quench their thirst. What they eat is pretty clear. -
Say goodbye to you flashlights. (and free batteries)

Great news! Thanks! -
Awesome guide. Have done most of the stuff on stable (so some of it wasn't available). A question to the seeds. You said it's easier to get seeds from roasted fruit/vegetables. How so? Do you get more seeds out of them? Edit: Ok. Answer is there now. Went away for a while before I finished my post. ;)

I will have different types of "end game" each with its own type of stashes. 1. Survivalist: This will be a lone wolf and focused on hunting, farming and gathering. Will use a bow, maybe a revolver for protection. If bored he might go out to distribute some food and water. 2. Sniper: This guy will try to have several stashes with sniping gear all around the map. Since you can't run a lot with a full ghillie suit it'd be better to have a few sets hidden in tactical places. He will either snipe for support or for fun (murder?). 3. Assault: He might stash some weapons to be able to gear up quickly after a death. Will most likely die rather often. I love to change up the game from time to time and therefore play different play styles. Of course there will be even more to do than that, like base building. Looking forward to that, too.

Just change it by yourself? You already can do that. I wouldn't be able to play without changing the key bindings. -
Can someone tell me if this is normal thing to do?
too-easy replied to NomadZ's topic in General Discussion
Yup! I bet he does. -
Yeah. Maybe it's easiest to get human guts.Never quartered a human, so don't know what you get from them, though.
-
I guess chicken only have a small pile of guts. A while back I caught a rabbit with a trap and it had a small pile of guts which couldn't be used to craft a bow. But maybe they changed that. Or maybe you can combine two small piles to get a big one.
-
Guts work as a rope for a long time, even on stable. The problem is to kill an animal without a gun. No idea if you can sneak up on them now enough to strike them. That's the challenge if you only start out with a stone knife.
-
I think I will try to live off the land starting only with a stone knife. Not sure if that's going to work as I don't know how to make my first kill to get the "rope" for a bow. Maybe I need a stone knife and a rope to get started. Everything else can be crafted and improvised now. At least for hunting and cooking.
