    After Patch, Problems.

As someone that has stuck around against his better judgment since the mod, I can tell you that: A) Saying that the next update or the next version will be better is fundamentally begging the question; B ) The standalone has the exact same problems as the mod did, despite the fact that Rocket got huge sums of money thrown at him, along with a team from Bohemia and a year's delay. Unless we see real progress in this, the project will fail.

Yeah, this is patently absurd. How can I play with my friends? Does that mean all my friends have to play on the same server? Full, 40-man servers are unstable as it is.
  3. I am the server owner. If you would like to join then contact me or Shadow Dash via Steam first. My steam page is http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197976534737 and Shadow's is http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198042585504. You will not be given the password unless you contact us first.

    Private Server Invitation

The server is set on Veteran. Crosshairs are on. I'd rather have them off but I think that it is qualia information that you could discern in reality... people can and do fire from the hip. I am also too lazy to futz with the settings. Third person is on because I know a lot of people prefer to play this way. The server is run off of my personal machine and I live in Boston, Massachusetts, so the time is set to EST - but we have tons of players from all over the US and the world. One of our players is from Finland, a whole group is from the UK, and a lot of guys are West Coast. I think we even have 1 or 2 guys from Hawaii.
  5. Hello, My name is Galdis and my friend is Shadow Dash. We are extending an invitation to our private server to any interested players. The basic gist is that we simply want to play the game with other mature players. We are sick of playing Russian roulette in public servers. The server is hosted on my computer so we don’t have any maintenance costs. This also means that saves are separate from the master server. I have no idea what the limits are for my server but I have capped the maximum players at 30 for now. We have provided our own workarounds which basically means that tent and vehicle inventories will save and survive reboots - however this is still DayZ and the game still eats things sometimes on its own, and players can still get stuck in the debug area (but reconnecting has always returned players to the coast). We do not care if you are a survivor or a bandit. Shadow and I think that it wouldn't be fun without other players or groups. We also believe it is vital to have player-versus-player in a game about the end of modern society. If you want to be a solo bandit, or start a bandit group, or start a separate survivor group, or join Shadow and me, feel free to do so. We really only ask that interested players please observe the following rules: 1. Be immersed. One of our main gripes with DayZ is the shift from an immersive experience to heavy player-versus-player. We have no problem if you are a player-killer, but keep in mind: you and everyone else is trying to survive. 2. No hacking of any kind. 3. No disconnecting to avoid being killed. Try to lose your attacker. If you have left the vicinity of where you were attacked and you haven’t been shot at for a few minutes, it will not be considered breaking the rule if you choose to disconnect at that point. By “left the vicinity”, we do not mean running into the next building or into the nearest forest. We mean getting the hell out of dodge and running for a kilometer or two. 4. No spawnkiling. This applies to the whole map, not just the coast. 5. No disrespecting or provoking other players. Basically, no “trolling”. Above all be polite to your fellow players. If there are any disputes, Shadow and I will handle them case-by-case. We do not want to have to babysit the server or deal with disputes all day. We want to play the game and have fun. If you cause problems you will be dealt with. The rules are not set in stone but we certainly do not want to expand upon them and/or make them more complex. If you are interested in joining, or have any questions, please contact us through Steam (Bater2333 to reach Shadow and red_harlem to reach me). If you Google search "Private DayZ Server Steam Group" you can also find our Steam Community group, although not every player is a part of the group. Shadow and I want to get to know potential players before we let them in. The server is passworded, so this is the only way to get in. We hope to hear from you soon. Best wishes, Galdis and Shadow

Fair points. We can only hope.

    State of DayZ

Beez and Fraggle, you both make perfectly valid points, but consider that I took a whole month off from the game. When I came back, the same bugs and glitches were there and the public servers became unplayable. Telling me to "hope for the best" is not very reassuring. I know he is open about the issues and is far more humble than many other developers. Hell, I wouldn't even say he is close to "the worst". However I don't feel like I have seen any progress on this mod since I started playing three months ago and that is where my frustration stems from. I also completely disagree with one of your points, Beez: developers should care a lot about the investment of their fans. A game is meant to be played and enjoyed. It is not perfection I want, it is results. Engine limitations is valid to a point and it is true that DayZ became a much larger phenomenon than anyone anticipated. I don't think Rocket is doing wrong by developing a separate engine, but this is often said as a mindless response to any criticism. I cannot fully explain the "mods" because I myself don't fully understand it (oh, the irony), but the other player who admins with me on my private server managed to tweak the code in a way that fixed many of the issues with the recent build - namely, issues with artifacting, vehicle and tent saving as well as object persistence. He essentially read up on how the code works and made the SQL rely on other files to save. It is a decidedly bare-bones workaround, but I can confirm that it works, and he did it in about a week. Most of that week was spent learning the code and testing the fix - the actual "fixing" only took about 3 hours. I believe he already posted about this on the forums but it went completely ignored. Furthermore, I have no idea why you guys think I support EA or "comforting corporate bollocks" because I never said that in any of my posts nor did I mean to imply it. If I had to choose between Rocket or some slag at EA, Activision, or Ubisoft, I would take Rocket any day.

    State of DayZ

If they don't care enough about perfecting their project then why should we care about the project at all? If they are not willing to put all their effort into such a massive undertaking, how can we trust they will produce a viable product? And saying it's too hard because of code limitations is hardly an excuse - modders have been breaking those limitations for years. I am not saying they don't have emotions. On the contrary, I am saying they are far too emotional, particularly when it comes to criticism and forum moderation. I would be far less critical if they responded to criticism with tangible fixes rather than pointless verbal responses.

To whom it concerns, The entire moderation team is disrespectful to the community that pays it so much reverence. The moderators are all so sensitive to any sort of criticism that they remove any shred of it which is completely counter-intuitive to producing a working alpha. Whenever anyone rightly calls the moderation or development team out on their bad calls, their laziness, or their abuse, it is completely snuffed out. The moderation team refuses to follow its own rules which shows how childish their conceptions of virtue, justice, and fairness are. They love to enforce rules and will their power however they see fit on the forums but do nothing when their game is being ruined by hackers and abusive admins and players. I understand that some people are abusive in how they present their arguments but removing it, or removing any thread pre-emptively for fear of escalation, only makes you look foolish. Instead of calmly rebuking these people and letting their stupidity explain itself, you fall down to their level of handling situations with ugly, brute force. It's sad enough that anyone who points out issues with the mod that have not been fixed for months is immediately shut down in that most condescending and illogical catchphrase so lovingly engendered in the naive fanbase by the development team to avoid their shortcomings: "It's an alpha, so deal with it". I give Rocket credit for creating something great, but he clearly lacks the constitution and resolve to change his ways and do it properly. His responses to criticism consist of "give me a break," "it's an alpha," or "you're banned" without ever acknowledging the legitimacy of the criticism. The fact that he allows the current moderation team to run wild while his development team does absolutely nothing is not a good sign for the future of this mod and its standalone release. To make things even more embarrassing, what bugs and glitches Rocket has, for months, failed to fix have been solved by several isolated modders. These hash-tag groups remove most of or all the bugs and glitches that Rocket ignores, creates, or exacerbates with the new builds. Most of these issues are so easily fixed in the code that it boggles the mind as to why the team has not been able to remedy these problems in the first place. One can only interpret this as incompetence. I am fairly certain this thread will be moved, locked, and/or deleted altogether with some condescending and irrelevant remark by the moderation team or the ridiculous fanbase. However, I still have hope for DayZ and that is why I am posting, even if I have no faith in the current team.
  10. So, if people don't want to simulate the zombie apocalypse in a zombie apocalypse mod, what the fuck do they mean when they say they want a "compelling" zombie apocalypse mod? Do you guys read your posts or even think above a third grade level? If you don't wanna kill any zombies at all, why are you playing a zombie mod? I don't want PvP removed, I want its emphasis scaled back. I want greater rewards for large scale cooperation, anything to counteract the rampant PvP. As it stands, there is no reason to do anything but kill other players. The only gameplay mechanic worth any time is player killing. This is a zombie apocalypse mod. That means there should be a balance of playerkilling, looting, exploration, and rebuilding. If you only want killing, you're just making a shooter mod.
  11. All I can read is "ARGLAARGARGAG OH MAN ROCKET'S COCK IS SO DELICIOUS". The fact that you instantly respond with "LOL TOO HARDCORE 4 U" proves how ridiculous this community is. You all can't even come up with your own responses, you just spew out whatever bullshit Rocket shovels out to you. Well, enjoy it. Dwarf Fortress is more fun. Ahh' date=' and here it is again. The same ridiculous fallacy. Mindless AI opponents controlled by predictable scripts? A-okay! Give me more! Mindful human opponents controlled by actual brains and capable of the full gambit of human emotion? "Dumbed down." I hate to end posts with trite shit like 'lol' but in this case. LOL. [/quote'] you retard, the problem isn't that we hate playing against intelligent human players. the problem is people play the game like it's CoD and it's not realistic.
  12. All of my friends and myself included are no longer playing this game. If you guys think it's fun to be assholes to each other and PvP all the time, instead of playing a zombie survival game, and if Rocket is really going to be another Notch and allow his game to be dumbed down for the ease of shallow PvP gameplay (and when the hackers are better than the ex-BI employee you know something is wrong), then so be it. Enjoy your shit game. Thanks for ruining a great mod.
  13. galdis

    many players are quitting

This mod is destined to fail because the majority of the community responds to serious criticism by calling the person, no matter how respectful or positive they are being, a whiny entitled bitch who is playing an alpha. The point of an alpha is to criticize it, you cads. I don't even know why I come on these forums because every time I do it's hundreds of CoD players who don't know the first thing about gameplay. Don't tell people to "play the game". We're not meant to play it, we're meant to test it and be the force that pushes Rocket into adding more mechanics. If the game remains "point and shoot" like it is now then it's going to suck.
  14. The only thing that would inhibit KOS mentality is if Rocket implemented a long respawn timer. If people had to wait 2 hours to respawn they would be less inclined to be stupid and more inclined to find help. Tons of people would stop playing, but that's okay because they only played for PvP and don't do anything else in the mod. If all you do in DayZ is PvP you're not playing the mod to its full extent.
  15. At around 9 PM EST, my friend and I found a boat off the coast near Solnichniy. He was using a car so I took the boat. While boat spawns seem plentiful on the server (Seattle 68), and the boats are very slow, the outstanding issue I found was that my temperature dropped like a lead balloon while driving the boat.
