Since we're sort of confessing I guess I should spil my beans too. I was out in the middle of nowhere, deep in some rolling hills heading to meet friends up north, when I spotted a players silhouette just past the crest of a hill. I only had a few berry bushes to immediately tuck into. I sat there panicking because he had the upperhand on me being that he was on higher ground. And here I was with no real cover in sight except me and this stupid little berry bush right in the middle of a meadow. Damn what to do.... what to do? I had n M4 but only iron sights and I had just been running full tilt so weapon sway was unreal. No way I could hit him at the distance. So after about 5 minutes of camping and speaking with my friends on steam chat, I said screw it I'm going to make an attempt to flank and interact with him. I cautiously crept up on side of the hill and when I crested I direct chatted "Hey man, stop there!! Don't move!". He seemed to comply but he was not chatting back with me or typing. I inched closer with M4 ready only to realize it was a stupid scarecrow! My heart was pounding and I just laughed my ass off in a sigh of relief because of how exposed I was. No other game has made me feel that way when seeing other players, or what I thought was a player.

haha that's pretty funny. Imagine if you had Scarface or Predator playing in the BG.

So let me get this straight.... You're totally OK with boosting in other games too right...ya know since it's an exploit...doh I mean feature as the other guy called it? Just because there is an exploit doesn't mean you should use it to your advantage. That makes you no better than someone going and buying hacks. Oh but that's right, it's a feature the devs put in so that makes it ok now! And spare us the increases my odds of survival nonsense. It's a video game. You're not going to die IRL if you get shot in this game. If you die, you die and gear back up to avenge your death or carry on as a new life. It's as simple as that. But to rely on game exploits and hacks just so you can feel "safer" or the odds lean in your favor in a battle just makes you out to be a horrible excuse for a "gamer". Why even buy a game if you're just going to exploit and cheat? Where is the "fun" in that? And since when is gaming just about winning? I must of missed the K/D leaderboard addition in the last patch. Sigh... please go back to CoD.

Until the gamma exploit is gone I only play night on low pop servers. I wished the night looked more like they try to depict on the DayZ reddit banner as there is enough twilight to differentiate from terrain, roads, zeds/players and structures. Maybe darker than this but it gives you an idea.

+1 for Shadowplay. I previously used Mirillis Action but switched to SP and haven't looked back. I does not drop my FPS at all from what I can tell where Action would consume 5-10 FPS with DayZ. I run max settings and average 50-60 FPS in woods and 30-40 FPS in cities on moderate server population.

Times like that I'm glad I roll with an M4. Enjoyable vid but yea that was nuts :D

I use EVGA Precision X and Rivatuner Statistics to tell me what my FPS is, along with literally any other GPU parameter you'd want to monitor during playing. You can definitely see big spikes and valleys when entering cities :D. I previously recorded with Mirillis Action which had a nice active FPS counter but I use ShadowPlay now since there is little to no performance hit and the quality is good.

:D When I first played this game I tried a few of the severs marked as being "friendly, noob playground, etc" but quickly realized most were nothing more than kill farm servers looking to feast on the nieve. There is one that stays highly populated in Texas that I've learned to avoid like the plague. As for the OP, I think he's got to be trolling. This is not a zombie game. It's a survival game with sprinkled in zombies (even if they're dumb). In the future that will change but for now there is little to do so a lot turn into KOS'ers. I try to blend in not making my presense known and I certainly don't hang around the coast, especially Elektro, looking for trouble because you'll most certainly find it. Bandits make this game just as they would IRL if we were in a post apocalyptic time. As mentioned by someone else, I would rather them come down and hold me up and kill or torture me than just snipe me from 700 meters and never say a word, much less come down to claim their prize from my corpse. Personally interaction is what I love and it's the story or sick, twisted people you meet that make it worthwhile. KOS'ers or hackers of course aren't real bandits. They are just pond scum we have to unfortunately deal with. DayZ is what you make of it. YMMV

I see people on here from time to time say DayZ doesn't look good but to me this game can be so beautiful at times. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. It's relaxing while traveling through the deep woods and northern countryside. So I threw together a short vid of random backcountry footage while playing over the weekend.

It's rare I ever see anyone up north :(. If/when we get tents or any sort of structure building I have a few spots already picked out. Thanks and glad you guys enjoyed the little vid. Have some magical fruit that makes you poot. :)

Just messing around at work. Yes it's that slow of a day :D. It's a rough initial work in progress and going to model maybe some zombie guts to hang off it heh. Stupid photobucket won't let me upload the ultra high res.

Better? This is more than 3-4 scratches but what I guess it would look like left out in the elements handled by many a bandit and survivor. :D

I figured you must of forgot or something since you said max settings. I usually leave it turned off as its a FPS hog at times but it looks real nice in the country. Forgot to say nice vid man ;)! I'm working on a similar video trying to get some of the cool things you find when venturing far away from the coast. I was recording one time and I didn't even know about the rock formation historic marker that reminds me a little of stonehenge, so it was a nice surprise when I stumbled across it. I left a gun sling, beans and a soda on the center rock as a token to the DayZ rock garden Gods :D. Maybe some other survivor ran across them before the server restarted!

I do these kinds of things too :D. I enjoy roaming the countryside of Chernarus. Why no ambient occlusion enabled? I find it muddies a lot of other things at times but sometimes deep in the forrests up north the ambient occlusion gives a nice depth and atmosphere, especially near dusk.

I was going to try it out but never got around to it. The time I did visit the playsix website I noticed they run a fake advertisement right on the page that says Download but it's an ad and not the actual downloader. I wasn't sure if using the download on the very top or bottom of that page was safe and the actual file to use. Any help would be great as I'd love to try some vanilla DayZ mod. I did the same last week and bought it for $8. Now if only I can figure out how to get the right version without using the Commander or other launcher apps. Read there was a virus in the installer of the commander so I chickened out and haven't touched it. I think there are only like 2 servers I found running the version you get from Steam so I haven't been able to really play it. Wished you didn't have to jump through hoops with launcher apps as I'm a noob when it comes to all that crap.

Pay day masks = I'm will probably kill you if given the chance. Why else wear that evil looking mask? It just screams "Hey, I'm probably a pyscho and not likely to be trusted". I used to carry one around just for 'special' occasions when I might have to handcuff someone and then throw it on to scare them a little. It took up space and in the end I felt it was bad karma to be having that thing in my pack! Thanks for not shooting me!! :D Seriously though I had a similar encounter when I started playing this year. I came into a hanger only to see someone else in there too but with their gun out. My M4 was in my backpack as I was just trying to pass through quickly. We talked it out and no blood was shed that day so all was well. :)
