I vividly remember the first time I played this game. I spawned just outside Solnichniy and didn't know my ass from a hole in the wall. I found a compass but that didn't really mean much of shit to me. I then found out about daydb and saw the interactive map. I used it a few times but then felt like it was robbing the game of true exploration so i decided to hell with this I'm going to learn this map. So after a few weeks I traveled all around the map to all the cities trying to learn some of their names and landmarks. During this time I had found a pristine compass in a barn (I think they used to spawn there?) so I used that to help me navigate for times that I would get lost deep in the woods. Fast forward to today and I don't even use the compass. I can traverse the entire map without ever feeling lost and I stick to the woods exclusively. Moral of the story is you will be better off learning the map but its not a bad idea to use the compass when you first start in this game. However the last thing you want to do is not learn the map and have t rely solely on a compass, teammate or random stranger in the game to get you headed in the right direction. As you explore learn the cities, towns and what the surrounding landscape looks like. As for night time, the flash light is useless because it has to be in your hand which means no melee. Get a headlamp instead or hell just a white chem light :D! Thankfully more people play on night now since they tweaked night time and i'm hoping less people use the gamma exploit as there is no need for it (never really was IMHO if you have a decent graphics card).

Just because he has an M4 doesn't mean it's duped (even then you need one to dupe it do you not?). I have an M4 on my regular/stable character that I rarely ever use. I've had that M4 and all attachments for a looonnng time, way before helicopter crash sites were added. I'm not going to lie I'll probably get a little misty-eyed when I die with it in my hands :D. And to think at one time I walked (literally) through Elektro when it was the #1 hot spot looking for some lucky fresh spawn to give everything to because I just wanted to start over on a new character. Fast forward to today and now that gear is sort of ultra rare and carries high value so i'm glad I decided to keep it all lol. I agree with mostly everyone else here. I don't think this guy could hear you or something. I'm all for slaying disrespectful kids (because they are so abundant these days) but it just didn't seem like he could hear you or maybe doesn't speak english as his native language. Sounded like you had a bad day at work and wanted to blow off some steam (hey we've all been there and can relate). He just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time I suppose.

I play almost exclusively on hardcore servers because I hate being 3PP exploited and FPP is more immersive for me. I don't have any issues finding a moderately populated hardcore server and TBH I'm glad not as many play it, especially the hackers. The reason I think it's called hardcore is not because of an increase difficulty but because it removes what I consider a horrible crutch mechanic with 3PP. The only times I play on a regular server is when I want to see how my character looks in certain animations or for cinematic video purposes. As far as the issue some have with it being labeled as "hardcore" personally I wished they would of named it "regular" and renamed regular mode as "easy" but then feelings or egos would get hurt and we can't have that.

This was just some shenanigans that went down as we were testing the exp update on Friday with SepticFalcon. No gun fights in this vid although I thought mutiny was going to break out at one time :D. This is what happens when servers don't restart and we play non-stop for hours on end lol. We tend to go nuts and lose our minds.

I lone wolf it most of the time. I don't care for large clans or any of that these days because I did all that when I was big into FPS games. I like to keep the numbers low as it keeps the chat confusion and possibility of friendly fire to a minimum. So at most I play with 3-4 friends. However I always make it a point to play on medium or high pop servers usually on hardcore for the immersion and to keep the paranoia turned up to level 11. I don't hide deep in the woods in the middle of nowheresville either but I'm there, watching you, always :).

So yea being one of the nice guys in DayZ is a 24/7 job but sometimes we have to get our hands dirty too, especially with fresh spawns.

Yeah I do as well. I had just came from the police station trying to lock a bunch of zombies in it but I got outnumbered and ran out of rags. A few blocks down the city I ran into these two guys. I don't understand what the boonie hat chick was thinking she would successfully cuff me coming at me like that but it was funny seeing the ragdoll leg in the air like that lol.

When I feel like taking a break from SA I hope on vanilla mod server. I enjoy it TBH but I like my SA much more :D. Anytime I'm on the US 3480 vanilla server usually people are banding together because zombies are everywhere when you spawn. Shame not too many people play on it these days. I think the most I've seen was 5 people. :( I don't do the epoch or other mods of the mod. Could never figure out the playwithsix launcher thing lol.

Import Chernarus+ into Arma 3 editor. It's very simple to do and is a cool way to explore the map and get cinematic shots if you wanted to. Google it and you'll find videos showing you how to do it.

I get anywhere from 60-80's in the fields (I've seen over 100 once or twice briefly lol), 40-60's in woods and cities are all over the place. Sometimes it's in the 20's and other times I can being the 40's depending on server and city. Resolution @ 1080p with maxed graphics settings and post processing turned off.
