Different people complain about different things. I hate the AKM, to be quite honest. It looks and feels like shit compared to an M4.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
scriptfactory replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
It's funny you mentioned this. My boss was telling me there was actually a case here in Europe (Netherlands, I believe) where an anti-hacking consultation company also made hacking tools. If I find more information I will post it. That being said, I don't think BE is doing this because that would be fucking stupid. -
Why do you insist on putting in large cities?
scriptfactory replied to FrostDMG's topic in General Discussion
I hope they keep adding cities until Chernarus is one big metropolis, like New York, surrounded by hundreds of miles of wilderness. /s No, but really. New cities are awesome. -
I still have my M4. Your stuff might have gotten stolen.

How many people read the warnings before purchasing the game? I convinced a bunch of my friends to buy the game after putting in hundreds of hours and none of them even lasted for 24 in-game hours. They totally didn't read the warnings, they just listened to what I and the rest of the internet was saying. Hell, I think Rocket saying "don't buy this game" actually MADE some people buy it.

Hit detection is still absolutely abysmal.

That isn't what a version number means, dude. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/28vbvv/twitter_rocket2guns_team_hard_at_work_today_on/cifubac -
Unhealthy amount of paranoia in SA
scriptfactory replied to djspartan117's topic in General Discussion
I just imagine I am playing a slow, glitchy version of Battlefield now. I don't even try to interact with people anymore. Sick of getting shot for my efforts. -
I don't completely disagree with your little write-up but I can tell you that DayZ does not follow a typical software development cycle at all and I doubt there was an actual game design document written up when development started. The griefing and KoSing were out of control in mod. I quit playing because of it and the hacking. In several livestreams Rocket touches on the issue and gives his ideas on how he wanted to control it. He also added several mechanisms aimed at reducing KoS. I, personally, don't think progress has been good. In the last 6 months we have seen the DayZ dev team work more on the game engine and content (e.g. hats) than game mechanics. For software that has reached alpha status you generally want a complete vertical slice of all features that will be in the public release. DayZ is missing a lot of features that are planned for the beta release. I am not saying I do not enjoy DayZ. But as a software developer I feel they are developing this game in a very amateurish fashion.

Hit detection is still absolutely abysmal.
scriptfactory replied to FrostDMG's topic in General Discussion
SA would have never been built as we know it. It would have merely been a standalone A2/A3 port of mod. -
You realize that DayZ doesn't even meet your criteria for having a proper development cycle, right? I, honestly, do not believe DayZ has a "solid design document" due to the way development has progressed and based on Rocket's comments during livestreams. He says things like, "Well... we are thinking about adding this" or "I don't know if we will add that. It might be better if the community takes care of it." There is also the small matter of things like KoS, server hopping, ghosting, etc. All of these topics would have been contained in a design doc. Also, they keep fixing both major and minor bugs in the current (alpha) stage. So, in my opinion, I think you are wrong with your assessment of a game development cycle as it applies to DayZ.

Did the removed M4A1(M4) in update 0.45
scriptfactory replied to lenyxv3's topic in General Discussion
Did they fix the AKM because on Experimental it was more accurate than the M4. -
Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
scriptfactory replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
You are correct. They want nothing to do with the forums. /r/dayz and Twitter is infested by legions of fanboys and that is all the devs want to see and interact with. -
Every time I am killed by a hacker. DayZ, oohh you... son of a...
-
What are you basing your opinion on? I play A3:BP all the time and KoS in that game is way different. The faction system and the party system make all of the difference. I still shoot people in the head if I feel like it but I first check my target to make sure I won't be penalized for killing that faction. I play a survivalist and have also grouped up with randoms (both "good" and "bad") several times. Some kind of faction or humanity system will definitely work. Note: I am not saying I want the Breaking Point faction system. It has its problems. I just think that some kind of system could be developed that rewards players for social interaction as opposed to punishing them for killing others.

You have way to much common sense. I disagree with you on a few topics buy you are always reasonable and make valid arguments. There is no reason advanced weaponry shouldn't be in the game. Instead of dealing with the griefing problem that DayZ definitely has had since Mod people are trying to limit play options which is, quite simply, not smart.

In DayZ you can't even recognize your friends on sight so please don't use the "realism" argument.

Maybe not large caliber sniper rifules but one or two members of the squad would have DMRs for sure.

My Quick Opinion on Future Development of DayZ
scriptfactory replied to FanaticModz520's topic in General Discussion
I agree to a certain extent. The features they DO implement should be fairly stable, though. They shouldn't just write buggy code and throw it into the game and count on fixing it later. -
Why don't the devs post content on the official forums?
scriptfactory posted a topic in General Discussion
Today I saw a thread written by a DayZ software engineer and it made me sad that the devs don't make posts like this here. I asked Rocket a while ago why the devs don't post on the official forums and he said he doesn't like the "format" of the forum. I assume he means there are no upvotes or downvotes. It irritates me a bit because I, honestly, enjoy the fact that discussion can actually occur in this forum as opposed to Reddit where every sane/valid opinion is simply downvoted into oblivion. Is there anything that can be done to make this happen? Can't the forum mods add an upvote/downvote button or something? -
I would not be mad if the devs added unique, unchangeable character names and a bounty system so people like you can be hunted down.

Is it about time the devs looked at client side optimisation?
scriptfactory replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
They are currently working on decoupling the rendering engine from the "simulation engine" so to speak. This should (hopefully) give you the performance boost that you are looking for. -
Is it about time the devs looked at client side optimisation?
scriptfactory replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
The typical developer mantra is "make it run well then make it run fast." The game runs well enough for an alpha. There are 3 things that are more important, IMO: Item persistence, loot respawn, faction identification. -
Why don't the devs post content on the official forums?
scriptfactory replied to scriptfactory's topic in General Discussion
You are probably right. That must be why he is there answering some stupid-ass questions. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/28z0uz/will_dayz_protect_freedom_of_speech/cifuhnc -
Why do you say "get over it". People complain all the time about the overt racism and sexism in games like CoD so why should DayZ be any different? If people don't like how they are being treated in-game then they have a right to speak their mind. Sexism and racism are NOT components of DayZ gameplay.

The sun... so OTT, needs toning down.
scriptfactory replied to MLG420blazeit's topic in General Discussion
All of the lighting in this game is broken. From flashlights to flares to the sun to campfires. I hope it will be fixed when they implement the new rendering engine.
