  1. Because there is no open-world post-apocalyptic survival shooter with respawn mechanics yet? Choice isn't a bad thing.
  2. While there are many people that enjoy a hardcore experience I do remember DayZero mod. It was a great, extremely hardcore experience. It died and Epoch 1000+ vehicle servers reigned supreme. I believe that the hardcore crowd are the vocal minority, to be quite honest. I'm just looking at the evidence and making generalizations. :)
  3. I understand your concerns, to be quite honest. After playing the standard game for a while people naturally get bored of being forced to get gear so they can PvP again. I believe that this is why the vast majority of player gravitate towards "1000+ VEHICLES" servers. This is slightly off-topic but, if something isn't done to make the basic/vanilla game more enticing it will die after modding/mission support is added. People don't seem to like hardcore survival where hours/days/months of investment can be lost to a single hacker, sniper or bug.
  4. I meant the idea of respawning with your previous loadout. It would be like an open-world Battlefield. This is actually something I have been hoping DICE would make for a while. Once the performance/lag/desync problems are fixed a separate game mode like this could actually be quite fun.
  5. I'm not sure why people are slamming the idea. It is basically like every other shooter on the market except you have to find your loadout.
  6. There are a LOT of people that just want to roleplay. I think it is boring as fuck but I play on two RP private shards filled with people that just want to hang out with each other and pretend they are in the apocalypse.

    Persistance now fully working?

Why not backpacks and guns, too? On all 3 private shards I am a member of there are just piles of SKSs and backpacks outside of military installations. People are grabbing AKs and dumping them in the middle of the woods so no one has access to automatic weapons. Until they figure out a working solution my suggestion is: every item despawns after it has been on the server for 24 hours unless it is inside a tent. If you drop an item this despawn timer resets.

    Slots and size of items

They should just copy Arma 3 and H1Z1 and add a weight/size based inventory system. This "tetris" inventory system is outdated and pretty horrible for a survival game.
  9. Fruit hydrates you more than it satisfies your hunger. Find a packet of dry milk or rice.

    Mil tents crashing servers?

Yeah, the dupers and others exploiters probably aren't helping the situation either. /sigh Thanks for the response, man.

    Mil tents crashing servers?

Is there any cure for this besides disabling persistence? The DayZRP server is constantly crashing and there is no loot anywhere. Edit: I just realized you are probably not tech. support. Ignore my question. :D

Anyone else enjoy the fear in Dayz?

DayZ is a fairly simply game from a mechanics perspective. There are only a few motivators in DayZ: Extrinsic (game rewards): Gear, vehicles, soft skills, character lifespan visual changes, bases, animal companions. Intrinsic (internal desires): Griefing/murder/KoS, helping others, roleplaying, exploration, survival. Extrinsic motivators are used to guide intrinsic ones. Since good gear, the main extrinsic motivator, is more rare people have less of a reason to fear the loss of their character. I remember when I, after hours of play, finally got a fully-decked M4 I was so scared during every social encounter. Now I run around with my shotgun and shoot people in the face. I know that if I die I can easily re-gear in about 30 minutes to an hour. With all of the focus on "sandbox" gameplay I think people forgot that extrinsic motivators are very important to the majority of us. DayZ has none. This is why it is so important that they are planning to add other extrinsic motivators like "soft skills", character lifespan, bases (related to gear) and animal companions. Without extrinsic motivators the only thing to do in DayZ would be run around and shoot people. All of these people saying that making gear more rare will improve the game's fun factor, or reduce KoS, are deluded. If free reign were given to server admins everyone would be playing on "high military loot" servers. Gear is the only thing this game has going for it. As soon as vehicles were added the player CCUs increased by 24%. TLDR; add more in-game rewards, please. Edit: I should add that the developers of H1Z1 seem to recognize the need for extrinsic motivation in a sandbox environment. They hired the Battle Royale guy. I fear there is a certain element in this community that is fighting against the progression of DayZ as a game. When Rocket announced he would be making a mod for BIS/SA the community response was shit. When Hicks announced soft skills as a project close to his heart the response was shit. The DayZ SKS/shotgun deathmatch is boring as hell. We need to move past it.

    Heli Crash Sites

I've found invisible police cars on persistent servers. I've never found a heli crash site.

Zero loot in many servers, what happened?

I play on 3 different private shards. Private shards have enough or too much loot spawning, it seems. I tried playing some pub and the two persistent servers I tried were bone dry.

Zero loot in many servers, what happened?

So the game will have made it when no one wants to play it. Got it...

    What?

Dayz Service Down / DDoS Attack

You can't actually "fix" a DDoS attack if you don't have the infrastructure in place to do so. It is why I was so skeptical about all of this but whatever. People are free to believe whatever they want.
  18. scriptfactory

Dayz Service Down / DDoS Attack

You are correct. It is definitely a DDoS and not the patch. Sorry for whining.

Dayz Service Down / DDoS Attack

Nice that the hackers timed the DDoS attack for the same day BIS released a buggy patch.

Trading posts/NPC (guards) Hear me out. Thoughts?

Dude. You are preaching to the choir. :) I feel DayZ needs improved social game mechanics so social interaction is possible. I have been begging for this since SA was released. You only have to look @ Mod to see what SA will become if nothing is done. All griefers, hackers, campers and clans playing on private servers. Mod is not fun as a solo player. Neither is SA at the moment.

Trading posts/NPC (guards) Hear me out. Thoughts?

The developers already said "no NPCs". You know... besides zombies, deer, bears, etc. No NPCs that would actually do something to make the game less of a deathmatch. IMO, they just need to add a party option with ff:off for private shards so we can do this ourselves. As of right now, with the horrible desync/lag problems you are more likely to shoot one of your teammates than the hacker that is running through you group at high speeds...

DayZ has become empty and boring

I really want to believe this is true but I play on Experimental. In my (extremely subjective) opinion as loot goes down, murderous intentions increase. I had way more interesting encounters when everyone had an M4.

DayZ has become empty and boring

Muka does have a point, though. Social interaction in DayZ has gone waaaaay downhill recently. I can't remember the last time I had an interesting encounter in DayZ. Now it is either people trying to kill me or someone offering me food and then running away because they think I will kill them. To be honest, I had the same problem in Mod (only with worse griefing and hacking)... but I kinda' thought SA would be different.

A few thoughts to mull over: incentives/skills/kos

I like the Project Zomboid system. In fact, all I want is Project Zomboid as a DayZ mod. I would play it forever.
