Most of his points about the problems with 1PP are correct, though. When the game is a little farther along performance- and feature-wise more people will play 1PP. As of now, it kinda' sucks.
-
I did read it. The crux of the article boils down to, "not enough people play 1PP, please people play 1PP because it is better, look at these videos that have been posted hundreds of times." Again, we have had this topic over and over again. Just bump an existing topic.
-
Its ridiculous how often these threads are made and posted in by the same people. Please stop making new topics and just in one of the existing ones.

If the recurve is supposed to be mid-tier does this mean they are buffing the crossbow?
-
That would, of course, be awesome but I am just scared about what kind of performance hit servers would take handling a bunch of bleeding NPC entities. :)
-
Not sure if I like this idea that much. I would rather have hordes of infected that don't bleed rather than a smaller amount that do.

The new 3pp camera and FOV Slider

Thanks for that link! There is so much information that was posted years ago that I had forgotten about. I like this part only because it shows I'm not crazy with my perception of 1PP mode in SA: -

It was so long ago I forgot about it. -
DayZ REALLY needs to add basebuilding or barracading
scriptfactory replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
I disagree. If a game is being sold then it has opened itself up for potential criticism. I'm not sure where this mentality came from that EA titles shouldn't be criticized... On-topic: Basebuilding is about some semblance of persistence in a permadeath environment. Look at games like PZ for an idea of how creating a safehouse can affect gameplay in a major way. It would make DayZ much better... on Private servers much more than Public, perhaps. -

I had forgotten about this video. I was trying to think of any time Rocket called 3rd person exploitive but I get it that you were just paraphrasing. Funny that he almost mentions KoS ruining many aspects of Mod gameplay. Let's hope he does better with his anti-KoS plans in Ion. -

Source? Edit: It doesn't actually matter. I don't care. Ignore my request. -

I agree. I value barricading and persistence way more than vehicles. In April 2014 Rocket was saying that persistence, world containers and barricading would be the focus (even before vehicles). I find it sad that this focus as changed. -
Remove the Vicinity "panel" in the future.

This could be a server option, perhaps. It seems like your idea would make scavenging tedious. Games should be fun, not exercises in tedium, in my opinion. -
Ropes on rifles before it can be holstered.

This has been suggested many times before. It is also a good idea. -
But why? It seems that people are like "don't add artificial mechanics to enforce a playstyle" but with server hopping they are all like "magic is cool". I think a method to legitimately change servers is needed but characters also need to be bound to one server by default. Just like in ARK. It works pretty well, to be honest.

Just as a re-cap, I believe my original statement stands. The longer it takes to fix a bug the costlier that fix will be (in terms of developer time and actual money). In my experience I have found this to be true. I agree with this. I think our difference of opinion comes down to what should be deemed critical and what not.
-
A bug is simply an unexpected result from software. If you do not fix your bug eventually other code becomes dependant on the buggy code. Imagine it like this: Function A makes calculations but has some rounding errors. It uses Math.floor() instead of Math.round() or something. Not the worst bug. Function B is also dependant on function A. It always expects a rounded number. Function C is also dependant on function A. It always expects a floored number because that is what function A is currently returning. What happens when you change the result of function A to correctly return a rounded long? Function C now is returning incorrect results. This is just one way to bugs can hide other bugs. Professional developers have QA as a part of the development process. If a bug is found we add unit/integration tests to make sure the code is working as expected. TDD helps out a lot with this as well.
-
In my experience the longer a bug goes unfixed the costlier it is to repair. I have my developers fix bugs as soon as they show up (within reason) and immediately write unit tests to (hopefully) make sure that they won't ever surface again. Case in point is that ghost sound that has been in the game for forever (it's even in Arma). If the developers had taken care of this bug as soon as it appeared it is much more likely that it would have been a relatively easy fix. They would know when the bug was introduced and could make an educated guess as to what caused the problem.

He basically said your spawn location should be random every time you login, at least 5km of your logout position. It was a terrible idea.

Possible improvement for third person and fire fights.

3PP and 1PP-only servers seem to work quite well in ARK and H1Z1. I am renting a 1PP-only hardcore ARK server and it is constantly full. I hope they don't get rid of 1PP mode in DayZ since it works. Once DayZ is further along in its development process (e.g. when it has better client performance, player movement, etc.) I'm sure the 1PP servers will fill up again. Edit: Also, the new 3PP mode is bad. I'm sorry but the OTS 3rd person in ARK is why I disabled that mode on my server. The worst. We are currently writing an ARK mod for a 3PP mode that is closer to the original one in DayZ. -
The product was commercially released (meaning they took customer's money) in December 2013. The fact that it is an unfinished product has nothing to do with stephenk420's point that zombies have been broken for a year and a half, IMO.

I love how resourceful this guy is but infected will just walk through those walls... All this talk about hermit playstyles and here I am counting down the days till barricading.

When spawning players can choose to create a new character or load an existing character. Players can use flares in-game to call in a chopper and get "rescued" after a minute or two. These rescued characters can be loaded in a random spawn location with all of their gear on any server within their hive. Both 1PP and 3PP. 1PP and 3PP public servers should belong to the same hive. After rescued characters spawn they become normal characters on that server. You have to use another flare to switch servers.

Emergence in DayZ; What is it? Is it good? KOS'ing?
scriptfactory replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
Excellent write-up. I will go over it in detail later and try to formulate a proper response to some of your topics. As I was playing ARK on a private server I realized that people were much more likely to socialize and group up. KoS is still ridiculous in this game but global chat gives people the opportunity to find players that will help them fight back so the complaints about KoS are must less common. In order for walkies to see use as an alternate form of global chat in DayZ I believe the following changes need to happen. Walkies should be extremely common or even a starting item.Get rid of the battery requirement for use. I keep my walkie off just because I don't want the battery condition to degrade. This removes the possibility for random interaction with other players.Walkies should broadcast across the entire map. I think a change was made last year to increase the range but I am not sure what the current status is. -
I agree with the majority of your post besides these two points. Sorry, but I don't think this is accurate at all. How did you come to this conclusion? I don't believe the majority would change their playstyle. They would probably just quit the game...
