'stuff to do' as in what? hunting/crafting/fishing? all these things can be 'semi-done' but there's not enough stuff around to do like you said. hunting? what animals? those 5 deer and 3 cows all the way up north.. or that lost chicken on the coast? XD (figure of speech) as long as the engine can't handle hordes and multiple species of animals in volume.. there's nothing to do in the game... apart from crafting leather clothes.. make a fire.. grill some fish filets and steaks... xD I get your point of view. but that doesn't change the fact that most 'kids' who play this game.. will ultimately not do those kinds of things.. all they do (like you've stated) is gear up and kill everything that moves. that's not what dayZ is... and regarding the 'most people that complain about the lack of friendly interaction flat out suck at the game.' sorry to say.. but that's just BS plain and simple.. there's this thing called learning process. if you don't get any opportunity to even start a convo. without getting ur head blown off.. that doesn't inspire trust in people online.. nor does it make for good RP. what happens? exactly (like you said) community based servers which is 110% private shards. filled with people that wanna play a fun game instead of Call of DayZ: KoS 101 edition. since private (RP) servers have rules/whitelist and public servers are a 'free for all' THAT is the big difference.. and that has NOTHING to do with 'most people that complain about the lack of friendly interaction flat out suck at the game.' -
YW... and regarding 'friendly russian players' there are almost NON... the only friendly players I've seen (friendly as in: doesn't KoS you when you peek around the corner) were the russians that were bound by RP server rules (NO KoS, no killing without legit RP based reason, no combat log. etc etc. etc.) other than that... xD I've seen 0 (zero) friendly russian players in dayZ.. (personal experience based opinion)

indeed... IF they add stuff like this.. it should be 'per character' not total score because total 'score' in dayz is just BS.. xD if this is character dependent.. maybe people would let their characters stay alive a bit longer and proceed with more caution.. instead of rushing a military base for loot (especially in the later game installments with MORE hordes and zombies per km²!) and this would only be logic if there are more animals to begin with. i mean Chernarus is the size of Luxembourg +- so that would mean a TON of wildlife especially after all the humans leave/die.. less humans means nature can recover.. just look at chernobyl ukraine. maybe its not radiation here.. but it's abandoned by standards so... -

but it will certainly not improve the odds, lets agree on that... now people say stuff like: dude.. I've killed X amount of people.. got some gear.. but yeah.. with this new 'kill counter' you'll get stuff like: DUDE I've killed 20 people today.. check this out (sends print screen to his friends)... so ha :) that makes me the leader of the pack. *spirals outta control within days.. people trying to outdo each other..* welcome to the new game call of DayZ by bohemia interactive.. congratulations.. you've just turned a zombie survival game into 'yet another online shooter' say what you want.. but on public servers this is already happening.. people keeping scores.. YES this already happens.. YES this will always be a part of dayz.. 'this is your story' but having a 'kill counter' in your menu that you can show off... and brag about to your friends and anyone, will NOT improve the odds for people that just want to have a friendly game of dayz... trying to survive while making new friends online. just so you know ;) -

I don't think you've seen the latest footage of 0.60 dev.. cause o yes it's in there alright.. players/animals/zombies killed here you can see that status box that'll ruin the game for heroes/survivors alike. turning it into call of dayz even more.. -
[aggro levels] How to annoy a zombie (just a little bit)
Tigermonk replied to Luc Tonnerre's topic in General Discussion
downside on this is... when you're in a tent in lets say a military base.. the 'hey there's a human' thing sometimes drops... they go from IDLE stumbling about to full aggro. glitching through the side of the tent.. trying to eat you xD kind of annoying sometimes.. plus the fact that the game mechanics are slower then the zeds atm... (most of the time) so trolling the crap out of zombie by luring it into a house then slam the door in their face.. is tricky most of time. -
and that is why... there are so little russian servers... if you play on russian servers you're asking to be beaten to a pulp by hackers and other script kiddies.. so sorry mate.. no real surprise there. 1 guy in a base with THAT many zombies? NOPE... 1 is look out/bait while (as you've seen) the others are waiting for you within the walls of the compound because 'shits and giggles' xD

hello, your ingame name can be changed in the bottom right corner in the very main menu of dayz... it should say a name.. click the name.. change as desired.. yw

anyone still running vista... should not be allowed to own an internet connection xD let alone a gaming PC... you don't run vista when there's this thing called windows 7... or windows 10.. xD lol... on topic: the DX 11 problem isn't related to OS.. (if you're running a current OS) VISTA SP2 IS NOT a current OS... thats behind 4 gens (7, 8, 8.1, 10) all graphics cards starting from link MARCH 26, 2010 7:50 PM NVIDIA’s First DirectX 11 capable GPUs coming to market! GeForce GTX 470 and GeForce GTX 480. (so about 5 generations of cards back) in a timespan of 4+ years. so you're fine running a 560 or 650 or a 660TI.. with DX 11 the only problem is the game itself.. it has a DX 9 engine (at the moment) but in about 2-3 weeks (hopefully) 0.60 will hit the exp or stable and that will give you DX 11 + 75-100% FPS improvement

'Pressurising devs into giving timescales won't help either' <- and Imma stop you RIGHT... there... we don't give them timescales... they give us 'possible' time scales when stuff SHOULD hopefully be done ;) don't get ur facts mixed up there buddy.. just so you can side with the devs against the community complaints.. proof? correct me if i'm wrong.. but this ->>https://dayz.com/blog/dayz-moving-into-2015 <<- is a time frame on progression through 2015... that was NOT coming from the community.. but the devs thank you very much ;)
-
no we don't.. 'there just is' xD I agree with you, no more 'eta' or 'we hope' because all that does is lead to more anger/disappointment among the community over time. but there's one comment that's even more annoying.. xD and those are the people that post the dean hall vids with his signature 'it will be done when its done' BS XD
-
and ^ that is why I never play on public servers... douche bag sniper kids.. only playing for shits and giggles.. xD

'feeling stupid' talking to yourself is a matter of perspective... I play on RP servers.. and some of the stuff I do online... let's just say, you won't hear me saying that stuff on the street.. but this is dayz and some people like RPing/making stories.. no matter how strange they might seem or turn out... I was in a RP clan before and they had a group of crazy people... like total nut jobs for a character... if they found you? they'd have 1-2 prisoners without anything on, keeping them alive with minimal food and water, you'd have to strip down to your undies and shirt, then crawl from one city to the next... while they told you how sexy you looked doing it... and you think talking to yourself is strange? LOL! XD not even close to what i've seen and sometimes had to do to 'survive' in the lands of dayz XD i'm never the 'rambo' guy with an M4 or mosin.. a mountain backpack full of ammo.. shouting at people to 'get the F down' and give me all their stuff... I don't like that style of playing.. so that from time to time makes you the weaker person thus being forced into submissive and strage situations all around. so all in all.. 'talking' to yourself isn't that bad... in my current community i'm in.. people post audio messages on the forum.. doing exactly that.. (looking for survivors) but instead of talking they write it out. so others have an idea of how that char is.. and what's going on.

this all depends on what server you're playing on... public? no thnx.. to much KoS so you can't hunt for jack.. fire draws in people... etc. but doing this on a private server/RP server? sure I'd be up for that if the new update hits stable. ;) better fps and all.
-
the porto's are only logic on RP servers with strict rules.. as pilgrim said: 'most people are on TS in groups already so there's no 'meeting people' and most people you meet online are either 12 yo kids or it turns into a KoS situation rather quickly on public servers. porto's and the way you use them... is only logic in RP servers/Rp situations. like you said.. full server nobody picks them up.. why? because they take up a space that can hold 100 ACP .45 rounds.. that's how most people think.. all the 'camps' you see on youtube broadcasts.. are PACKED with guns in barrels and enough ammo/clips to start WO XXVIII (28) so... no real use for most 'call of dayz' players anyways

('since its a central broadcast point on the server.. so why not let the entire server know you're listening to the trololol song? or rick roll them for having 'the power') ^ this is why they want control or use the radio station.
-
the only thing pointless about the radio station in my opinion is that there's only 1... so in the first few weeks there are going to be hordes of people streaming towards it.. fighting for control.. since its a central broadcast point on the server.. so why not let the entire server know you're listening to the trololol song? or rick roll them for having 'the power' after these things have been done.. it will slowly become 'just another building' just like green mountain.. I knew GM from back in the MOD... army jeep/truck so 'dang it we need a car!' (heads to GM picks up the cars, drives off) so long GM... on RP servers I played.. it was a central site for UN forces RP along side scientists trying to figure out a way to broadcast to the outside world.. and working on a cure.. besides that. GM doesn't have much use... I have the feeling that this one radio station will ultimately suffer the same fate as GM, when it's 'no longer fun'

Zombies start moving when players are nearby?!?!
Tigermonk replied to Luc Tonnerre's topic in General Discussion
why would there be? that's not 'realism' and thats something their trying to push in this game in recent months... you can LOOK at what zombies are doing.. but thats not really a BIG game breaker.. since that would also apply in real life scenarios xD -
- the backpack idea: seems fair enough.. but due to the mechanic of the game wouldn't work - pulling items from backpack: see nr 1 - injured player idea: could work but would give anyone who swings/shoots first an unfair advantage.. although it makes the game more real - houses have randomly locked doors: good idea if you ask me.. since some doors are open and others are closed right now.. so why not lock a few, there are always people in a post apoc. that have the 'need to lock my door' principle baked in no matter what. - fill canteens with soda etc.: whats the point other than having no extra soda cans in your inventory, this would only work if the cans are left behind as waste like the epoch. mod so you have scrap metal to fix ur car or make traps. (soda can tripwire grenade FTW :P - flashbangs/grenade improvement: they both should be improved.. if you throw a rock the weight of a grenade you don't throw it 4 feet infront of you... because trololol... more like 15-20 feet or something. + doing so in a building should have bounce back of some kind. - higher aiming of guns... there's already some recoil in the game.. but this would only be accurate for multishot weapons like AK.. that are known for being notoriously in-accurate when 'emptying a clip' because they kick like a mule - spawning guns with mags: this is a tricky one especially the way you're saying it 'if you are too afraid of letting players having one magazine then you shouldn't have the gun in the first place.' this is called post apocalypse chances of finding an intact gun + mag + ammo are almost 0... since the guns have likely been used by military personal or civilians, to fight off the infected. so no gun should have full clips. but rather the 'random amount' like their going to incorporate in later patches! - firing mode on guns: most guns used are single shot/full auto. if we want 'burst' fire the devs should incorp. this on the appropriate guns like the MP5 + the option to 'check fire mode' like you've said, so IDK if thats something thats important enough to put in, since its extra work/another cog in the machine (that could break) for the game mechanics - punching damage through objects and surfaces. kind of the same 'extra cog in the machine' like the one above.. good for the realism.. not so good for the overall game engine workload. greetz, tigermonk

in the true style of dayz dev. Dean Hall AND brian Hicks 'it will be done when it's done' so the update will come when it comes... no use making topics like these... all we can do is 'hope' and wait.. wild guess? half of april-ish.. maybe longer. depending on how many botches/hick ups/bugs/game breakers they run into int he coming 2-3 weeks.

that would take away all the ethics of 'zombies' zombies are not 'smart' or 'tactical' their more of a 'basic function' asset type of threat.. some basic motoric functions remain (running/sound/sight/hitting or clawing.) the difficulty should be in their numbers.. not their 'brains and tactics' example: trigger happy fully geared KoS badass walks into cherno or elektro, spots a player moving stealthy through the back streets to avoid detection by players/infected alike shoots at the player 'for his gear or shits and giggles' alerts every zombie within a 50 meter radius through sound output.. has to RUN for his life or gets beaten/clawed to death by 30-40 infected thinking he's the next meal on the menu that's how every serie/movie works.. infected/walkers/undead mainly have poor/blurred vision but are drawn to sound (falling trees/breaking sticks/gunshots etc.) since these are 'infected' and not (as people state in this topic) 'undead' they may have low stamina.. but moving on instinct/adrenaline alone should be able to catch you in the long run. since their body isn't functioning normally. I remember this person called 'dean hall' that was planning on 'taking the speed out of the game' so players had to move slower, sneak more.. take cover to avoid detection from horded of zombies.. so they don't flash run to military bases.. gear up and go on bonny and Clyde style sprees. dayz should be a dangerous place... filled with danger all around.. so you'll think twice before rushing into things with high value loot... play tactical.. a military base FULL of infected? - rig a pipe bomb or flashbang... a few yards from the base.. so the infected hear the bang and see a flash,, all shovel towards it to check it out.. - belly crawl under the broken wall.. loot the base.. and get out of there as fast as you can.. still outnumbered? take a chance... find people.. talk your way into a cooperation with that group... 1 person rig's the explosive... 1 person is a back up for stragglers 2 or 3 people loot the base.. many hands make light work.. congratulations you're actually playing a realistic game without the KoS minded movie approach, you would never use should this be real

as you can see mr hicks... I wasn't putting the devs worth ethic in question... i was mearly stating almost the same as s3v3n once again did in this quote. mistakes were made in the past and all we're asking for is that there'll be a change in strategy and information after the renderer-update. Things were announced, now they just need to happen. you guys posted the 'to-do list' for 2015 half of that list was not (yet) completed.. that was the only thing I was stating.. and I'll just copy/past my own comment here again to clarify ('let's hope april is the new beginning for us all... including the devs.. put some renewed fire in the work ethic. so in turn.. we'll hopefully have more results and a little less 'we think/maybe') you guys have used the word HOPE a lot over the last couple of months.. so.. 'we HOPE april brings new energy and more effecient work ethic to you guys.. so things run smoother.. less bugs... quicker updates in the process. thats all I'm saying.. I never said you guys didn't work hard... because you do.. but due to circumstances your scheduled plan has been blown to bits over time. so april/spring seems like the perfect time for a good catch up race.. warmer weather.. more positive mindsets because of better weather... win-win
-
like s3v3n explains in the thread above. let's hope april is the new beginning for us all... including the devs.. put some renewed fire in the work ethic. so in turn.. we'll hopefully have more results and a little less 'we think/maybe' that would do a lot of people in the community very good including myself :) no more 'long' term lists that end up with 8-10 months delay.. because it's 'written' thus visible to everything and everyone. just a solid stream of step by step, point by point progress that we can all enjoy ;)

these 2 comments pretty much sum up my frustrations.. and what i've been trying to explain on this forum for the last month or so :)

Is there any hope left? Please tell there is!
Tigermonk replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
since my last comment regarding the DEV list for 2015.. was deleted... I'll just repost some truth... and forum mods... telling people stuff like: Hello there Pure Twaddle. I suggest you stop spouting your nonsense if you wish to remain here. You dont have to be a fan of the Game, the devs or us mods but you are in *our* forum and will beHave appropriately. Lies and/or/slander will not be tolerated. Rgds LoK Edited 6 March by OrLoK that will not help set the community at ease... there's legit reason for people's frustration.. this is ONE of them: https://dayz.com/blog/dayz-moving-into-2015 yes this is off your OFFICIAL dayz website... clear as day... it stated the dev. plans for the entire 2015 (yes 2015 not 2016) like i've stated in previous comments.. the devs are at LEAST 6 months behind schedule. at the current rate of progress their putting out 3 updates/year and this rate is steadly DEcreasing.. 0.60 november/0.60 in February/0.60 in march/0.60 in ???? since its almost april.. we'll just say april.. that leaves 20+ updates until BETA release which was planned for Q4 2015 'Q4 2015' BETA version Animal companions (dog, horse) Steam community integration (Achievements, Steamworks modding, etc) Construction (building shelters / walls / ...) so the people have a very good reason to doubt the devs commitment on the deadline, since it stretched onward and onward leading into spring 2016 with an update planned for Q3 LAST year. I'm not saying it will never be finished like the other guy did (thats what the mod responded to like this) but that doesn't justify a direct threat by the forum mods to force people to shut up and 'get back in line' that's not how the internet works.. and most certainly not how freedom of speech and expression works in the world. regards, tigermonk
