What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

What I'm saying is don't fix the code until they need to. Let them hack, just put in a new system that makes the game unplayable with any given character that was caught cheating until that character is dead. When they start a new toon, they get another chance to be legit. Until they have done it enough times, then permaban the account, and make them buy a new copy. Then they can rinse and repeat as much as they want, BI gets more money, and we all get protected from this crap. Again, there would need to be a system made to facilitate this, but it IS a good idea. This new system could be all they ever need to do to prevent cheating and hacking, and would be worth the investment in creating it imho, cause it could be easily changed to fit whatever new systems they created later. I'll give you an example of a game with allowed cheating that nobody used and why; Warcraft 3. You could enable the cheats for multiplayer, but everyone could use them, so you just essentially got cheated in return if you did use them. Which is what I'm essentially suggesting here. Make the server cheat against players that cheat, because the server in theory has way more power to control itself than the hackers do. Just like taking the power away from a bully by taking away the reaction he's looking for. This is what we need for DayZ, or the hacking/glitching/exploiting will never even lessen, it will continue into full release and beyond, because they (BI/BE) did not create a system that actually gives them(cheaters) a real reason not to cheat. The idea treats the source of the problem; the motivation to cheat because of the gains/entertainment it can get you, as well as the symptoms(each individual hack/exploit/glitch). I'm talking about a real, permanent solution. Not just a quick, "fix it now" type thing. This could and should be an ongoing, longterm project that is developed in tandem with DayZ. Honestly, they should have a whole team of peeps on this issue. Hacking and exploiting will kill this game if it's still a problem by release cause they won't have the "it's an alpha and is being developed" excuse to protect them, it will just die. Most people don't want to play easily hack-able games, just look at Defiance. Totally dying for this very reason. Yes, BI would have to spend money to do this. But I honestly feel it would be money well spent, and that we, the paying, legit players/testers, not only deserve it, but are entitled to it. Even if it doesn't fix the problem now, I want to know that there is a real solution that will actually work, and continue to work, being developed.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

I agree with you. It's very possible that this kind of shameful "bottom line-ism" is in part what allows this to happen. Though I for one, really want to respect BI, and hope they aren't using that logic. I don't understand why BE can't pay more attention to client side variables, and their possible values, and punish anyone whose variables are not within acceptable/possible values. So that it's not as easy to cheat. I feel they should do something like: If you caused any hacker that was caught with said guardian-ware, to be relentlessly chased by invisible, superfast, teleporting, super strong zombies that die as soon as the offending player is dead. This way, even if they do buy back into the game after a ban, it's still not playable while cheating. Also, with nav meshes implemented, it should in theory be not that complicated to make it so that cheaters will get screwed for glitching through a wall or other object. Logic = is player on useable navmesh? If yes, then end. else, kill player character. OR Put a tag on a toon that passes through a wall or other object that should not be passable. Check for said tag. If present, start the previously mentioned super zombie gak. You could use this idea for ANY cheating that is testable. You may have to create a framework to test for those things, but I feel that is BI's responsibility to do anyway. Give the hackers a taste of their own medicine. This way, Bi's bottom line is protected, along with the experience for the rest of us.

You want a fix for your situation? Simple. DON'T CHEAT!! I know that's a new idea to you, but try it. It's more fun, for us and you. You don't deserve support, you were glitching and duping, so deal with the consequences. Just run yourself to death and be done with it. Redeem yourself from your cheaty ways, and become a legit player, die and re-gear just like the rest of us.

Anybody else having trouble finding tents? I have been searching farms, castles, and hunters huts in addition to searching for camps. Not found a single one. In fact, I have not found any loot at castles, wondering if loot isn't working for them? Am I just looking in the wrong places or unlucky? Or are my suspicions right that tents aren't spawning correctly..

I'll try to keep the nerd rage toned down here.... anybody else get a *perfectly* (seriously perfect, been working on him over a week getting ready for persistence) geared hardcore toon just eaten. totally just wiped and a new character in its place? happened during a server restart. was outside in a shed looking for tent when BAM!!! server reset. so i think, no biggie, quit out, load into another server. aaaannnd new toon. fml god damn it. like instant mashed potatoes. just add time loss for no good reason, and you have a recipe for some seriously tasty object throwing nerd rage. you don't even have to heat it.

They really need to fix the duping bug

In other words, "explain to all the jerk cheats out there how you are doing it." Not saying Mago is a cheat or anything, just that publicly posting any of the details of such duping is a bad idea. If you actually did not know Mago, he means to duplicate items. OP has the right idea. If they wanna know, they'll ask, if not, keep it to yourself. EDIT: That said, they do need to squash this. It's been around for freaking EVER, and just keeps coming back. Idk if they have ever fixed it in the past or not personally. But not too long ago. I caught a whole clan of people duping a hacked magazine and beating down smaller teams of people right on twitch tv. So it's def not something that isn't or can't be game breaking. So, IMHO this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. I was thinking the other day how awesome it would be to use cheating to make cheaters die constantly, By that I mean the game detects it, and screws them with lightning fast, teleporting, invincible zombies that only target the offending player. Don't ban them, just do to them what they are doing to others. Just do it harder and legit. Ya feel me? :D

    Reporting Hackers

No don't post anything here. I just went through trying to report cheaters on this site. There is no point to starting a flame war, which is all it will do. The mods will only take down what you have posted, and most likely nothing will come of it. You may even warn said cheater and make it easier for them to dodge the banhammer somehow. My suggestion is to figure out what server they were on, then get a hold of it's host. send them all the evidence you have. If they can do anything about it, they will.
  8. This is the eternal debate. I feel ya. I'm never sure what to do on this. I decided that in the end, it is better to set an example for potential cheaters, than try to keep them from getting the info to cheat. If they really want it, they are gonna get it anyway, IMHO.
  9. I was not sir. I am rarely a fresh spawn. :D Usually found nowhere near the coast. I know better. But I do use the same name for both the game and this forum. Anybody else is a pretender. ;)
  10. It wasn't just that night according to one of their own members. This is a new confession to add to the old one. Now there are two. Here's that post. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/179675-s3sector-three-kos-matureserious-players-military-teamspeak-noobs-welcome/page-4#entry1894640 These guys are habitual, and the night I caught them, they were 10 or more, with perfect, duped gear, beating down a team of 5. So it wasn't just a few mags, it was an entire teams worth of gear. guns, food, clothing, ammo, everything. For a whole crew of dudes. I'd say that s ruining the experience for others for sure, and according to the new confession, not the first time they did this.
  11. Hello, First of all, I want to say, this isn't flaming. I'm not calling for any specific action. I am simply bringing some cheaters that are helping to spread exploits, and also recruiting on this forum to the attention of the site staff. As well as sharing my opinion. I was told by a forum mod to post this thread if I had real evidence. Which I do. So read on survivors. So I have posted this here so that the site mods can clearly see, I caught the clan Sector 3, cheating while watching one of their twitch streams, then confronted them in their recruitment thread, where they admitted to it. I was recently told I should not have done that. Sorry about that, truly, I was only trying to help. I hid my opinion on the matter to reduce tl;dr for people. Read it if you want to. The leader is completely unrepentant. He doesn't feel bad at all, never said he was sorry for his clan's behavior, and did nothing but make excuses and call me immature for calling them out. To which I responded... unfortunately. Read through the whole argument if you want to know why I say this. It's long though, and is beside the point. The real meat and potatoes here is the confession. That should be all anyone needs to see. I am reporting that confession, in the hopes that something can be done about it. Here's the confession. Written out, right on their recruitment thread, for all to see. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/179675-s3sector-three-kos-matureserious-players-military-teamspeak-noobs-welcome/page-2#entry1884599 Thanks for reading, FalloutPrime
  12. 1) I feel like they are just a TAD too fast. But really, just a tad. To those saying you can't outrun them anymore, it's not true, running with fists up totally makes you faster than them. I lost some running away in a straight line on train tracks just last night. 2) They are super buggy, or too fast for their own animations or something cause the other night I was getting hit circling around behind one. Totally lame to bleed from one zombie when you never even saw the front side of it. 3) I HATE how close and fast they respawn. It should be a slow process, the infection must take some amount of time to take hold, and if they were "there from the start" then, i should be able to see them, and clear them. It's totally bogus. But they SHOULD respawn. just not that fast, or close. 4) This one im not sure of, but it seems like they always respawn facing you, which means insta aggro if you don't have cover to break LOS, and decent sneaking skills(because they respawn so close), and sometimes, even that doesn't seem to matter. and im a damned ninja when it comes to zeddies. Example of why the respawn is lame: I was at NWAF, practicing with my new LRS and my mosin on some zeds. Didn't realize the new respawn mechanic had gone live. I cleared the field as fast as I could (this is part of my sniper training, I also have friends aggro them and run them around so I can practice hitting moving targets). But anyway, I cleared the field. I was on a hill more than 300m away from the airfield, then add the actual distance of the airfield and your talking about as far as the mosin can possibly hit. 800+ yards. Using dayzdb map as an approximate rangefinder, def over 800m. So I was prone, in a quiet, already checked/cleared field. All of a sudden I'm getting hit. I'm like WTF, that's never happened before. So I get up, and there's a freaking zombie hitting me. So I kill it quietly, and lay back down to shoot some more, and get hit AGAIN. WTF?, I get up, kill the zeddie, and get hit from behind by another one and die. LAME LAME LAME. End story. It makes it so even if you kill the zeds from a LONG way away, they respawn *near you* no matter how far away you killed them, and aggro you almost immediately. This is essentially zombie teleportation. So much for sniper training and being tactical and clearing a town before you go in eh? The only way to make a town safe now is to have someone run through a town without killing any zeds (you don't want them respawning), shoot a mosin, wait for them to gather, shoot again, wait for the stragglers, then run them out of town and get them lost in some trees while your friends loot.
  13. Imho, they should slow down how fast you can access things in your pack. Only jackets, vests, holsters, and things strapped to the bag should be quick access. You would not be able to effectively draw any weapon out of a bag full of stuff in time to save your ass. Much less a whole axe.
  14. Beautiful. As a matter of fact, i think I'll take a picture of my ar-15 with my shotgun strapped to the other side of the bag. this is just using the backpacks straps to secure the weapons. Just so the devs can see, it's not hard, nor is it impossible in the slightest, to carry two guns. just put down your axe. i think giving up a silent, ammoless weapon to kill zombies with is more than enough sacrifice to carry two mains without being slowed. Bayonets or no. http://imgur.com/81JnmhS <--- pic of me with two weapons, strapped to a backpack. Apparently, im not allowed to post images, or i'd have done that.
