    Another game breaking glitch

Thanks, memory limit does not seem to be a problem here...also from the tracker.... "You can see someone say that they tried ArmA III and it also has the same problem"... Sadly I read very often about configs with current cpus, good gpus and 4gb ram - you can get those of the rack and sellers can get the price down that extra $30 compared to the competition. Either way, from what others wrote, the 4gb don't seem to be the problem here - not saying that more ram would not be advantageous...

    Another game breaking glitch

For those with the game crashing after some time, can you write what cpu, what graphics card, how much ram and what operating system (32bit/64bit) you have? I personally suspect (have for some time) that there is some memory leaking going on, but that's just stupid me.

    More involved item repair

Several interesting thoughts, like it, but ruined gear not storing your stuff any more? Shot->backpack ruined->all gear in there lost? Not good, the amount of ruined gear in containers when they get ruined is already too high as far as I am concerned. Switching to (not pink) tracksuit pants is aleady good, when your pants are ruined because of armor...

    invulnerability during loading screen

Now I also think that this shows poor judgement in logging locations, but I like that idea nevertheless. Sometimes you just spawn in a dangerous location, might be because of server restarts, battleye kicks (not responding client), .... the list is long.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

Well, today in the Vybor mil base in a barack my friend dropped, then I heard AK fire and then the fun began. I went into a room, got shot at from behind full auto, not hit. Went out and looked back into the room - I see a drum mag flying around at about the height where it should be if someone is crouching. In the game I thought I had seen the knee of a wallglitching player, only realised when watching the recording that it was a flying drum mag. The mag continues to fly through the wall into the next room. Checked the next room, no one there. Went into the washroom, got again fired at from behind by an AK and a Mosin (I think), impacts at the door of the washroom, so bullets went through the room. Then a handgranade came...did not harm me in the last shower stall, I think it went off in the barack's entrance. In the end one of them went past the washroom entrance and I got impatient...and impatience leads to dead me. The whole thing took 5 minutes, if a BI employee or Sable want's the vid, I can give it to you. I'll not make it public though. EDIT: As others have already talked about invisible players (I thought that was because of desync), and I don't know all causes of funny things currently, I would have said, it might just have been dupers (no one fires so much lead at anyone) and wall glitchers. Can you glitch through barack walls? But that flying drum mag sealed the deal, at least for me. If someone knows more about that, please tell me.

DayZ is literally unplayable at the moment

A guy in the stable discussion wrote that it also happened there. Seems logical that server hopping MIGHT force the issue, but when playing with friends showed that it happens to quite a few ppl. Was a bigger issue a few months back, has not happened in months to me, now it seems to be an issue again. The reason might be a completely new one, the symptom is a fresh char.

    Why...........(movement and avatar control)

You say "It's all instinctive...". We can run up directly to the corner of a wall without putting conscious thought into how exactly we will slow down. If the system would work fluently, you could get reproducable results here, but I always feel like we don't really get those. It's often just a little off. Maybe that's desync and the server and client discussing just where you are. Momentum is a funny thing. We have it when starting and stopping to run. But we don't have it at all where it matters the most for me: When changing direction while running. A reason why I don't fear snipers with the way we can run around. I want momentum there.

How do I run back to the old x2 W?

Turbo does not work with 2xW, BUT just below it is Fast Forward. Set that to 2xW and you're good.

Describe Your Playstyle In 5 Words Or Less

First of all, I thought the idea was to survive? Choosing death out of spite isn't really a great way to play a survival game. Imo ppl who don't care about dying are are one of the major problems this game has. If ppl just gave a shit about surviving more than 5 minutes and would see that as an achievement, the game would be different. But playstyles are free, sooo... Second, you get to keep your energy and hydration. Also a bandit usually only takes what (s)he wants. You should get to keep most of your stuff. I don't understand you, are you saying you have better things to do than playing DayZ? I got something new: Survive and experience something new!

What DayZ needs to move forward.

Basically what I have written so often, it's not funny, but here we go...examples are taken from memory, so don't nail me down because of them. Some might even be completely wrong: 1. Some problems take longer than others, are worked on for months, planed at later stages, ... Example: Light shining through walls. This is gonna stay around until the engine rewrites are as far as they need to be with directx 11. DirectX11 can be used for how light sources work and what blocks them. This is done pretty deep in the game and when the functionality to use it is done, it will be implemented, not before that. Doing it now would mean doing more again later. Ok, maybe some can already be done now, but we won't see the changes until all is ready, sooo... How big of an issue something is now is not neccessarily an indicator if it should be fixed now or later. If the underlying functionality that is neccessary (or is planed to be used for something) is not done yet, it will have to wait. 2. There are many teams with different jobs working on the game. Example: You cannot take an engine programming dude and tell him to work on netcode. Well you can, maybe at the end it will be done, when some areas are completely done (if something like that even exists), but the programmer spent a lot of time to get familiar with what he is currently doing. Switching over to a different currently problematic area will result in him not being productive for quite some time, so it is usually better to simply leave everyone where (s)he is knowledgeable and productive. Some areas like art design and artificial intelligence are so far appart that you might have to send the ppl back to university first. At the beginning of this year I THINK a whole studio was bought by BI that specializes navmeshes which are now used for zed navigation. In the last builds zeds started running through fewer and fewer walls, around fences, ... . In experimental today, every house I tested but one could be used to close zeds in, I tested only some houses, but it worked with more than before. Another problem, closely related: Zeds sometimes "glitch" through walls they usually run around or can even push you through walls. I think collision was mentioned there as the problem. Pathfinding and not accidentially falling through walls will work closely together when looking at the endresult which should be walls that cannot be run through, but are actually two different things, so we will see the result, when both are done. They about doubled the team in the beginning of the year after the success of the sales, if I remember correctly. New things and techiques are now used and getting implemented that were not even planned at the beginning. I don't know how the end result will look and when it will be done, but currently they are pushing new thing out pretty fast. I see that as a sign that the additional devs that started a few months ago now completely arrived and are producing - just my interpretation. Fact is, the game is in development and will be for some time, theoretically the zeds running through walls could have been left until much later when the game is somewhat optimized and more resources on the server would have been free for ai computation. But they got the additional studio for that now, so party! :).

    Streamlining Reloading

Actually, why not implement a reload r button for the currently equipped gun? It does work with mags after all. If no mags are left, a bullet could be chambered. To do the realism/autenticity thing right, it should just take a little longer than switching mags. We also have a hotbar to equip items without going into the inventory, where exactly is the difference? Generally I just had that idea about taking longer to chamber weapons or loading a mosin or something without a mag, but I think that would be good. It's a pain to chamber a weapon that is supposed to be used with a mag. The bullet often falls out where the mag is supposed to be. Those push clip thingies like SKS and Mosin are also much faster than putting in the bullets one by one. EDIT: When using an SKS ppl have 10 buttets, which is not so little with an SKS and I know severl ppl that will not take clips with them to save space. Having a time penalty for manual reloading would make mags and clips more important. An cancel action could even be used when manually reloading to only load for exampe 3 instead of 10 bullets, if the situation makes that neccessary and you need to immediatelly shoot.

Removing the Bolt/Bolt Group for weapons

I know there are ppl throwing guns somewhere so others don't find them. Maybe a valid strategy, but is it good for the game? There is a reason (or will be a reason) to how loot is distributed and in what quantities. If too many ppl did this, I think the game would suffer. If others have no guns, doesn't that make it less thrilling?

    pig killers make serios mistake

I see, you are not up to speed. Please read this: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/203973-please-make-the-pig-safe-is-unicorn-of-dayz/ Also consider how the devs are obviously in a conspiracy against pigs, or they would make sure that you can craft improvised leather courier bags from other pelts, too. There was a time when you could use cow pelts, tested that myself! SCANDAL!!! As shrub said: 'look, berry is more better than the bacons' EDIT: F*** that stupid deer with his rack. What's that got do with anything? EDIT2: Did you test switching to a different axe? Maybe yours is somehow glitched?
  14. bauertschi

    Why...........(movement and avatar control)

The controls of the DayZ mod did not blow me away, but I only played a few hours.I think there is a change here though in thinking at BI: Some months back the aiming was different, ppl were arguing about how it should be. Some were saying that turning with a mosin should be slower than turning with a pistol (in terms of actually requireing more mouse movement, totally throwing any muscle memory one might have from other games out of the window), a maximum turn speed was proposed, all kinds of funny things were mentioned with accelleration and decceleration (is that a word?). Now we have raw input in turning and the weapon lags behind, simulating the lag depending on the weight. That's why some weapons are not great for breaching buildings. We can still argue about the following speed of the weapons or how they zero back in to the middle of the screen or whatever, but I LOVE that feature. I think it took a lot of the clunkiness of the former system out and made it more accessable, not sacrificing that realism/autenticity aspect. The realism aspects must come from the game itself, not through "clunky" user input. And no, that does not mean dumbing down the user input. We are still in early phases and I believe I read somewhere that the complete user input is being redone, we will see. Let's just relax and drink tea. Nevertheless this is also one of my main concerns, especially combined with melee, netcode and zed ai.

    pig killers make serios mistake

Is the axe ruined? Still works for melee, but not for cutting down trees in that case. Axes degrade by cutting trees, you can get a badly damaged one back to damaged with a stone.
  16. bauertschi

    Why...........(movement and avatar control)

I think it was more about the fast turning zeroing in and headshot functionality in twitch shooters, not about the question if AKs are precise enough to actually pull that off when lying down and taking aim. You ignored the word "instantly". You can not have your gun at your hip, turn 90°, aim and get a headshot on 100m off in 1 second irl.
  17. bauertschi

    Why...........(movement and avatar control)

I agree, DayZ is and should be completely different. I kind of got worried about that when I heard yesterday that it will be ported to the PS4. In almost every game I played that was also on consoles, the ui mechanics were suffering and you could feel how it was made so that a gamepad can also use it. I reset my controls in 0.48, reassigned turbo to space bar instead of shift and jumping to shift (I use mousewheel button for "gun up"). What I also did was assiging Fast Forward to 2xw, it did not work with turbo, but now I have a sprint buttton and the 2xw also works. When I move sideways (ONLY sideways without also moving forward) and press the sprint button, there is no change in speed. If you say it should work, I gotta play around a bit more with the controls, it seems...

...just what would shrub say. Pig is DayZ Unicorn!
  19. bauertschi

    Why...........(movement and avatar control)

There are a lot of debatable little small things. Yes, creating a twitchy shooter is not the goal. But (don't know, guessing) we probably run faster than in CS:GO, definitelly faster than in BF3 for example, jumping is not working well, we CAN change directions without slowing down in full sprint, the sprint button does nothing without also using w, going up stairs is soooooo slow, movement when aiming is too slow and the sprint button again does nothing, ... . Nothing of that is any more realistic than in any other shooter. I hope we will still see a lot of changes in character movement, the current system is often (imo fittingly) described as "clunky". In experimental there is now a new sprinting with raised guns, great! Maybe the OP was hinting in this direction? I don't neccessarily associate the wish for fluid movement with the twitchiness of CS. EDIT: But I agree, comparing it to CS:GO might not have been the best example...

    Bandit life

I tell myself to take a mosin and go target practicing at the beach for months now, never did it. Seems lame and I'd feel bad - somewhat :). Other than that in the current game with its features I like hunting ppl, not camping too much though. I simply can't sit in a bush for hours, the thought of doing so terrifies me. I am definitely a bandit and seek pvp and kos. But I never shoot if the other (presumably) has no gun before talking. I offer food or some gear, whatever. When the situation fits and I don't completely waste all my opportunity by doing so, I talk to ppl before they see me, even if they are geared. You gotta stay flexible or it get's boring.

What is the behaviour of zombies at night?

They make little zombies, what else? Don't you hear those grunting noises when you get close to them? Then they hide them in the ground and when you kill the parents the little zombielinos dig out and attack you. Or did you think they simply spawn out of nothing???

Amputations and posibility to survive headshot

I'm against it because of a gameplay reason. It is a great feeling to get shot down and pull through. It would change into depression about your char getting once again closer to loosing a limb and having a real disadvantage. Ppl should try to survive long. This would probably result in stashing your gear away, commiting suicide and getting your gear again with a fresh char, when the time comes.
  24. bauertschi

Player spawn is the cause of all evil

big no, ppl currently suicide in solnichny or krasno because they want a berezino spawn. This would result in suicides because they want a nwaf spawn. Ppl who want military gear should invest the time to either loot it or kill someone who has it.

Removing the Bolt/Bolt Group for weapons

I'm not saying that this is really the most important thing that must happen, but it would probably result in quite a few hold ups not ending in the death of the held up guy. Currently it is simple, if you cannot take all the ammo and do not want or cannot take the weapons, killing them is the safest thing. It's not like there is a high emotional barrier like "Nooooo, we cannot kill him, the poor dear!" keeping ppl from executing held up guys. An easy way to lower their threat level might result in quite a few survivors getting a second chance. The guy I just played with tries to hold up practically everyone, if possible instead of shooting on sight. 2ppl in about 2 hours of gameplay. If we cannot be sure that the guy has no gun because of inventory restrictions, he dies.
