Dynamic Reloading of Rifles, Shotgun, Pistols etc..
bauertschi replied to thefinn's topic in Suggestions
This is inconsequent, either R for reloading, be it a magazine or a single bullet, or no R. Yes, clips/mags/speedloaders are used to allow faster reloading. They still are in bags, vests or backpacks just like the bullets. Ppl here want the game to be authentic/realistic, that's all I hear all the time. So let's look at this from a realistic point. 1. You have to open your bag or whatever (go into inventory) 2. Load (drag mags or bullet stag to gun) 3. wait for the animation to finish (4. close your bag or risk loosing stuff, let's just ignore that) The question should be why we even can reload mags with R. It's a convenience. We also have a quickslot bar, it's useful - or will be, when it will finally work. There is no difference between reloading a bullet or a mag. The advantages of mags should be handled ingame through reload time. Reloading could take as long as it does now, if no mags are used just add one bullet. Loading a Mosin would take 5 times as long as it does now without a clip. If the user input works well, the reloading could continue automatically and interrupted with "cancel current action", but that would only be a convenience again. Like reloading with R or the quickslot bar. -

I think Shrubs stories are highly entertaining. Sometimes I have to think about what he is saying to figure it out, but I can. Should he really do this on purpose, then he is extremely skilled on keeping exactly one style. Now to your post, and keep in mind that I actually manage to understand all shrub writes: 1. What ridiculous behaviour, writing like that (which according to you is intentional) or the pig cult thing? A little more information would be useful. 2. WTF is a DayZ DG? Dolce & Gabbana? 3. WTF is a 4chan? Maybe I could google that shit, but I don't want to and I certainly should not need to. I don't have to use google to help me understand Shrub. Something like that can often be seen in international forums, native English speakers put in silly abreviations and slang bullshit totally disregarding the fact that only the dude living next door and maybe his dog can decipher that nonsense. The forum is international and is located in the Czech Republic, man. And who are you to tell me what I should feel ashamed for? Quite entitled, are we? Concerning the proof of Shrub's English capabilities, can you link that at least? EDIT: I'm pissed off now, so I actually did google 4chan. Really? An image-based bulletin board? Now how does one become an image-based bulletin board? I have no idea what you are talking about. Shrub is obviously way more coherent than you, take lessons from your niece. -
We are not talking about removing the ability to change servers, but how often do you want to switch? Ppl who visit empty servers and jump in at a military compound, search it and then go to the next server 10 minutes later are not keeping servers active. The only leave them with an unbalanced loot table. You will always be able to switch between servers in the public hive or even in private slices.

If you make sure that you are hydrated and light green energized, you can simply ride with it (high regeneration). The sickness will be over at some point and being on high regeneration is enough to survive. A saline bag only gives you back 500 blood. That has nothing to do with being sick. Otherwise I'm not sure about antibiotics and stuff, if you did NOT drink bleach, charcoals will put you directly to the last stage of the sickness - you will still be sick but it's almost over. Either way, get hydrated and highly energized and stay there. During sickness you need more water, so keep an eye out for that. Having high regeneration will add to your blood, the sickness will lower it. They balance out somehwere, no need to worry, but firefights are not what you should look for.

I read somewhere that now with the code also being for PS4 (there is overlap after all) we will get 64bit clients...was on reddit somewhere, I think it was written by rocket.

PLEASE make the pig safe is unicorn of dayz
bauertschi replied to Shrub Rocketeer ™'s topic in General Discussion
My bad, I should have been more specific. The improvised leather backpack (after courier bag) is from piggy, the monstrous leather testicle on the back is from deer. Don't know what's planned for cow. There was time long long ago, when you could make improvised couriger bags from cow, deer and pig. -
That's an exploit even I am using and I say "even", because I only spam collect apples/berries/drink water and use this. Well I usually only do it with spare pants and a shirt or something so I have spare clothes without loosing inv space, but still, bad me :(. Inventory management will get more interesting as soon as that is fixed.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
bauertschi replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
There actually might be, there was a youtube video linked a few days ago in this thread, seems like it's gone ... I don't like that one bit. The problem is that if you shot the guy down and then executed him, his abilities to cheat might have been limited on the death screen, no idea really. Currently there is the anoying issue of not hearing shots, only impacts. Happened plenty of times to us, you never know where the attacker is... . We exited a prison a few days ago and just after the doors opened, my friend goes down. We heard no shots, I only heard the impact, same sound as when you hit a zed. He on the other hand heard nothing at all. It was a dude proning 30 or 40 meters away from the door aiming at us. I went back into hiding and finally actually managed to kill him. Now we don't know how that happened, the main problem for us was that my buddy went down immediatelly, before the doors were even completely open. The doors themselves did not lag, they started opening directly as I openend them. So here we did suspect that MAYBE some ESP stuff was involved. But that is just speculation. The shooter missed several shots at me later while I was fumbleing to manage my first Ak101 irons sights kill on a proning person who I first had to even find, so he was not that great. What made me kind of doubt if it was a legit killer was how fast he killed my buddy, like he had preaimed exactly at his position, after all he turned out to not be a great shot. But there is always luck to consider ;). Now what is relevant for you here is that my buddy just dropped dead and did no hear a thing. You shot somebody, maybe he was not alone and you did not hear the shot or impact of the bullet because of the currently messed up sound. Don't make it sound like the devs aren't giving a shit, that's simply not true. Depending on the location an official action with authorities may be possible, also take into account where the site actally is, I doubt you will achieve anything there. I would not advise you to attack/crash websites, that is simply a crime in most places. Also often other sites, maybe even networks are impacted by such actions. You could be sued in civil court in most areas, too. -
What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
bauertschi replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
In some way I can understand your argument, but also remember that as long as the source code changes dramatically, there are security wholes that would have been closed anyways down the road, no matter if they are exploited now or not. At the same time new wholes will appear. Basically many anti cheat actions will have to be done again and again. Closing security wholes in a code base that is not changing so dramatically any more would offer more permanent solutions. Battleeye is hotly discussed here, but no one can deny that they banned many. I play BF3 and there are still plenty of hackers there. And you only really figure out the most obvious ones anyway, I don't even want to think about the numbers of those using ESP to just get a slight edge. Getting numbers of bans is a problem, but there were some in this thread somewhere. I'm not looking through all 100 pages, but I think BI once answered that and said something about 800 BE bans in a week just before that. The original source was reddit I think. Also many hacks are not BE's job really, but BI's. I defninitely also pray for sanity checks down the road. -
Admittedly you could make a private hive and let everyone in, but there are plenty of discussions about that topic on the forum. There are advantages and disadvantages, but for me the public hive seems more interesting, BUT loot hoppers definitely need to be discouraged. And a big ass time penalty against ghosting is definitely needed.
-
I would not mind ppl "breaking my legs, telling me how hes going to rape me" (well, maybe not that one, there is currently a public discussion about that) "and kill my family, teabagZ me, and then kills me." No one ever did something like that to me. It would be a nice change of scenery.

That is sadly true, but Hicks said in a twitch stream some time ago that basic loot allowing crafting like that should get more common. Went fishing today, did the time to catch a carp get increased? Took forever. We caught 4 carps and I think it took as long as the 10 carps last time. Or maybe the company and discussion was better last time...

The central loot system will mean that you switch server and search that server for something. Sooo no time penalty there, only switching too often would trigger that. I doubt Dean had in mind that ppl loot an area, log, loot the area again, log, loot the area again, .... when he talked about that. It's not like the helicopter part you are looking for is on the nwaf ATC, it is somewhere. You will spend enough time on the server. Spawning outside is not clear, could mean outside the area or outside the house. I would like always putting ppl outside buildings, at least you would not be shot in the back in buildings you already cleared. A login sound would solve that, too, but seems to be not liked very much. Hopping servers to farm interesting locations on different servers again and again is as bad for the game as duping. The hopper gets loot faster by using the exploit of getting to interesting buildings faster. Additionally those that run around on the map like idiots suffer with interesting locations being empty. The best example are all the east towns that are totally unlooted but have looted police stations. That's not helpful for balancing. I really got to take up the noble trade of hopper hunting. Everyone can hop servers, fine. Everyone can dupe, too. No reason to do it. I really don't see how that can be taken into account in the game and treated fairly for all players. And please no proposals like when you switch servers, you cannot take anything in a vicinity of 1km or something like that. Depending on where you are, 1km might be a lot (if you are starving in the middle of Novo) or nothing at all (if you are hopping nwaf or chopper crash locations). Of course changing servers from time to time to meet up with ppl or some other reason is not evil. I like that idea very much, but I would like to see it in combination with general time penalties as described above. There simply is no reason to hop every 20 minutes. Especially switching and then going back being penalized with a long wait is the only useful idea I have ever heard against ghosting. As it comes up again and again, yes, we will get private hives (or slices with only one server in them). But why do we have a public hive at all? It would have been way easier for BI to make chars restricted to the server you play on. I'm not going into advantages and disadvantages here, that's a whole new discussion for a new threat. For me it's like we are discussing how to get rid of some pests in the basement and ppl responding with "no problem, we will nuke the city, pests gone." If private hives are the thing you want and are happy with, fine, they are coming. But there is still a public hive and just we are discussing suggestions helping there. And private slices (or what they are called) including more than one server will have the problem, too.

Don't forget the existance of the Trusted Medics of the Wasteland. I called upon them once, took some time because they had almost no hardcore guys around, but I got help.
-
I came in here mainly to propose a sawed of Blaze, a sawed of Mosin is all fun and giggles, but the 2 bullets from the Blaze would make it really interesting for breaching. That Mosin reloading...
-
First I hated your proposal. There is enough panicking going on behind the keyboard here, when you start to not panic, you are a better player, BUT then your char panics... nope. I could imagine the getting used to panic thing, if it does not take too long, to reach badass status, I like the idea of being rewarded when your char lives for a while. But at the same time I think everyone will just farm badass points from zeds until they're good. Again, not useful. And I don't like a more sophisticated solution. Also having a fresh char usually means being at a disadvantage gear wise against "badass" chars anyways, this would larger the gap. It is a really nice idea, but I don't think it would add to the game experience. EDIT: A general thought about dayz...dayz has a hell load of stuff to manage compared to other gameplay wise comparable games, meaning FPS titles. The environment is more interactive, much more loot stuff lying around, speech chat, ... the list goes on. I think some dude here wrote that dayz causes about 2 mbit/sec traffic for him, that's a lot. I'm bringing this up to show just what syncronization in dayz means. Adding recipies for crafting, different items, craftin animations, ... all fine, but adding more things that might mess up firefights is not good. It would probably be only client side, nevertheless not easy to do well, I think. I would prefer the dev time going into user input, making weapon sway better and last but not least netcode improvements. If down the road at some point those things are peachy and the devs want to introduce a panic-meter that's not messing bambis up too badly, fine. But it is another thing influencing combat, maybe will result in making it more laggy, and as long as the other points are not reaaaallllllyyyy working great, no. What would also be a more important feature is making melee better, make more possibilities there and make the AI better. I see the danger of adding too much stuff and all suffering for it.

Killed a guy, went to look at his inventory, just a backpack and nothing else?
bauertschi replied to Nickisis's topic in General Discussion
What do you do with them? Can you swallow them and get high? ;) -
I bought a new router (for openwrt), I share my connection with my flatmates and whenever they downloaded something, my ping would go up to 800 or 1000, not just in DayZ though. The ISP solutions are often the bottom of the line, the things that just somehow do the job in some way. There was no way to use traffic shaping with my ISP router. Now I have no impact from the others, no matter what they do. €30 well spent, the situation was anoying me for years. Somehow it's funny how some ppl care about their rigs but don't spend a thought on the infrastructure. On the other hand, a lot of (not IT interested) ppl just don't know better, the ISPs are to blame there.
-
That sounds awfully risky to do to me. First you have to time your logout so you don't get shot. Then you have to guess when to best log in again, ... but if it is a thing, ok. A lot of ppl log out and come back rather soon because of real life things. Maybe 3 minutes is ok here, but that is just finetuning. I like the idea of no logout zones, but instead of suicide I would use a random spawns outside the area. What about isp disconnects, other problems, game crashing, ... random spawn outside the zone make it random enough to be dangerous so reasonable ppl would prefer to leave regularly instead of disconnecting in a no log zone, at the same time unlucky guys or ppl that had to immediatelly leave because of real life are not punished too much. Having to leave the keyboard should not be a death sentence, think of parents, ... . I don't know how long this thread will continue, but I really think that making a few rules like the discussed ones can help tremindously to fight hopping and ghosting while not creating problems for normal players. Also global loot things like for helicopters are not a problem with such things, so arguing that Dean himself said ppl might have to search other servers for helicopter parts is out of the discussion. No one can tell me that he had loot hoppers and ghosters in mind when he said changing servers will be neccessary.

Chatacter wipe next stable build(.49) possible
bauertschi replied to cels's topic in General Discussion
I run around with an AK101 and ONE magazine. It is enough to kill or die, whatever ;). You know what screws legit players besides cheaters using third party software? Dupers. No gearing up being vulnerable, no point in conserving ammo. The very thought of considering dupers legit players disturbes me in the extreme. That goes for all exploits giving you advantages in fights, like looking through walls, glitching through walls, ... . To be honest, I'm astounded that they don't do this more often. They did for example filter out infinite m4 mags and 60 5.66mm stacks a while ago. They kept coming up. If they just wiped all chars when doing something like that, it might be easier to figure out how that is done. I guess they are hesitant to wipe everything because we (the community) would just show their dislike for such actions in the usual ways. In their shoes I would wipe AT LEAST with every new version. More often if it seems useful. If one dev is just taken out of further development for 1 day because of something like that, I think a wipe would have been a good thing. Gearing up is also part of the game. Maybe you'll enjoy it after months ;) Teleporting is not impossible. Accolyte did not say that. Read again. He only stated that he never said anything like teleporting is ok. Ppl in the pinned hacking thread misquoted him a while ago, so that's why he wrote that. -
Maybe the successrate of catching fish could be used to put balancing in there, too.
-
Would that not make "traditional" fishing obsolete? Why bother with shovels, worms, rope, ... the result is the same - fishy, fishy...
-
^^this. I don't know how others see it, but the history is useless for me when the entries are not ordered historically.
-
It should be possible to create a system that only hurts those that hop or ghost - well unless you are the unluckies guy on the planet with the worst isp out there and get disconnects because of that all the time. Allowing a timer free switch every x minutes and not counting server restarts or server kicks in there doesn't hurt anyone. It should be able to get a basic set of rules that do not overtax ppls inteligence and can be played with avoiding penalties. Ppl who force the issue can wait, their choice. Now what I don't understand is why this: "if you log out and want to rejoin after 30 second have passed you have to wait 5 minutes (independent of switch penalty)"? Nerfing that would help the unlucky guys...
-
The timer should also contain an explanation describing why ppl get the penalty. Not just "You switched back to a previous server after going to another one for a short time", but explaining that ghosting is prevented with the timer. Of course you tell more ppl about ghosting who might never have even heard about it, but if the timer is there, it does not matter. Having the timer rules in a blackbox and ppl just getting anoying timers without knowing why is probably a big part of the rage against timers.
